  I would also ask you to contact the manufacturer of the computer to help.

  Randomly on my personal self built computer, readers usb ceased to recognize anything I put in them.  The strangest thing is that the devices kept under tension.  The mouse led would light up and charge the ipod.  I had to plug into an old school mouse and keyboard that do not use usb to use the machine.

  Uninstalling drivers for devices (ipod, keyboard, mouse, external hard drive)

  I'm really confused on what else to try.

  Manager and use a USB expansion card that is not expensive.

  I am trying to connect to Simple external storage drive and once I followed all the steps (only 2) Windows XP gave me a message that the USB device is not recognized or it malfunctioned. I disconnected everything and tried again in another USB port and still had the same error. I know that is not the usb port of my computer because I have it plugged into a port that just worked.
