Failure installing ESXi 5.1.0 on Dell PowerEdge R210 II

Hi all

I tried to find my answer in the existing forums and found a similar mistake (Forum #423438), but he had put end to saying that particular server is not supported. I bought the different server, the PE210 II, and he showed up on the list of support for VMWare. If you need of advice please.

It is a new server out of the box, bought without Windows/Linux installed. Get the installation to the point below where it was looking to select a drive... and he just stood there. When I hit F1 for more details, I got the text at the top left of the screenshot. "An unexpected error has occurred. Error code: YMxvZy5we... "Look at the logs for more details. AttributeError: 'Text' object has no attribute 'device'

vmware error.jpg

No idea how to go beyond this? Really, we want to start using VMware and bought equipment to devote to it. Now I can't make it work.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Scott

Unfortunately "S" PERC controllers don't are not supported with ESXi, it may not even be detected during installation at all (see KB VMware: cannot install ESX/ESXi with Dell S class PERC)

Have no success in installation of the ESXi 4.1 U1 on the Dell PowerEdge R210? I'm unable to install ESXi and maybe someone had some advice. The Dell server comes with a RAID1 and is under the list of VMWare HCL. There a S100 for the RAID controller. Dell recommends to break the RAID1 and install ESXi on the local drive (single). This server comes with a 500 GB drive (x 2).

What will be the best option? I think to install the 4.1.U1 ESXi on a USB key, but had no experience this and I don't know how is it sustainable. I can count on and what size of USB do I need?

Please advice what have you done or any recommendations on how to install the server host.

    Thank you.

    Collin

I'd certainly install on a USB key. You will need a 1 GB or more large USB key. You can have an internal USB slot and I would like to check the documentation for your location. ESXi loads directly into RAM, and he has very little written on the disc. A copy of the small configuration happens once per hour.

I don't think that your RAID controller can be used as RAID because I think it's a software RAID that is not supported under ESX (i). You will end up with two separate drives.

  • OK, I NEED someone TO HELP me INSTALL LESS ESXi 5.0 on my Dell PowerEdge 1950 Server! And of course, HE IS No. TUTORIAL on this SITE FOR ME HELP!

    As I said earlier:

OK, I am trying to install vSpere on my Dell PowerEdge 1950.

    Hardware specifications:

    4 GB FB-DIMM DDR2 memory

    x 2 processor Intel Xeon, 2 carrots, 3.00 GHz

There a RAID BIOS, so I had to create a Raid 0 virtual disk to install anything.

Drive hard WD 1 TB, it's the one I use for the VD.

When I choose which hard drive I use, I select the VD, I created, I select my keyboard language, then the configuration scan my material, then he asks me if if want to install, I pressed F11. Then, when it reached 5%, it throws an error: "partedUtil failed with the message: error: can not have a partition outside the disk!

He says that it cannot install it on a virtual drive? My server is not compatible?

Edit: There is another error that says: cannot read the partition table for device:

    /VMFS/devices/disks/NAA.60019b90bd8289001e62575a584731e0

What is going on!!! Why vmware cannot have tutorials on "How to install Esxi on a server with RAID BIOS"?

Check if the virtual HARD disk you packed is initialized. It seems that the installation is not written on this HARD drive. Back to the HARD Disk Manager (you probably PERC5 / I) to start the process I think is CTRL + R? find your virtual drive and launch. Take a look at the image as an attachment.

Yes it has an internal USB slots (2) and Dell Power Edge T310 is the HCL just check your CPU

People had a lot of problems installing ESXi4 on boxes, but it is associated with RAID controller driver.

This should be included and sorted on ESXi 5: see http://communities.vmware.com/thread/243513?start=15&tstart=0

  • Adding additional disk to ESXi 4.1 Datastore on Dell PowerEdge R710

    Greetings,

We currently have a Dell PowerEdge R710 with 6 SAS das drives configured in a RAID-1/RAID-5 configuration. A drive is configured as a global hot spare. I would add this spare drive in the RAID-5 table, where some virtual machines live, to recover additional space. Has someone managed to do this? Is the only way via the PERC BIOS management utility?

    Thank you!

I'm not part "raid-1/raid-5.  But assuming that the table is raid-5, then yes it is possible and yes the BIOS utility is necessary.  The hot spare is currently set should be removed from this role, then added to the existing Bay raid-5, but without the ability to select increase.  This will create free space on the raid-5 array on which then a new logical volume can be created, which will be then seen by ESX as a new drive and therefore another data store can be added to this (or it can be added to the first as a measure).  HTH

    Any help would be appreciated.

As written in the previous post try to install on a USB key.

  • Dell poweredge R210 II BMC communication failure

    Hello

I installed a new card 6 IDRAC and during startup, I got this error message from BMC communication

and I do not have access to the IDRAC utility.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Sohann,

Looks like you installed and map iDRAC6 Enterprise without iDrac Express being installed. When upgrading a system to the Baseboard Management Controller to controller of iDRAC6 Enterprise, an iDRAC6 Express controller must also be installed for iDRAC business controller features.  This is because most of the logic for the iDrac lies in fact in the Express.

Also, what is the part number for the company card you have installed, so I can confirm compatibility. I ask as I have only to use with the business you already have, as well as a reference number for the complete upgrade of BMC Enterprise, the numbers for the Express card. This is where the card you have is not compatible.

iDrac6 Express only (for upgrade BMC to Express) - 330-5946

If you card is not compatible.

iDrac Enterprise Upgrade Kit (for upgrading BMC until the company - 330-7645

    Let me know.

  • Setting up raid 1 on dell poweredge r210 ii

    Hi all

I want to configure raid 1 with 2 x 500 GB sata HDD, I tried pressing f10 when the thumb to the Configuration Wizard of server load when I press on the raid configuration, I got error no. controllers Raid found! ..

    any help please

    Thanks in advance,

    Mandoesam,

The first thing I would look at is if the Raid is turned on in the BIOS (F2). Access the BIOS, and then under SATA settings, replace the SATA Embedded Raid Mode. You can also turn off the server and reconnect both ends of the HDD cables. After that, then start the cycle of life of the controller (F10) and see if the Raid is now configurable.

Let me know how it goes.

  • VMware ESXi 4 on Dell PowerEdge 2950 CDROM missing in virtual machines

    Hi all

I installed VMware 4.0 on my Dell PowerEdge 2950, and everything moved very well. I had the ISO image from the support site on the website of VMware and Dell. I installed both with the same problem, once installed, the CD-ROM will not be displayed in any virtual machine, I create.

I changed the boot parameters, the order of the boot, played with the BIOS settings, and no matter what I do, when I start the virtual machine and open a console window and try to connect on the CDROM, a message displays saying that the device is disconnected.

I have reinstalled Windows on the box, went to the site of support of Dell and applied each update BIOS patch and firmware of the box. Including the one for the TEAC CDROM, which is in my box.

Anyone had this problem before? If so, how should I do? I really need this works quickly. Without a CDROM, I can't install software such as SQL Server and others.

    Kind regards

    Michael Lange

I assume that you have added a CDROm for virtual machines?

You then specify "logged in/connected to the power on" in the settings of VM page? (I know it's usually obvious.. .but I did it very mistaken once this week.. .accidentally added the CDROM to the VM wrong.)

What OS your virtual machine is running and you have the installed VMTools?

If issuing a VMtools install on a windows host, it works, then the Cd drive works as ESX uses the virtual CD Rom to install the tools.

  • Dell PowerEdge T110 II add on the video graphics card that works

    The system configuration:
    Dell PowerEdge T110 II
    BIOS 2.8.0
    RAM 2x8GB

For many reasons (for example feeding bus PCI), it is difficult to install a Dell PowerEdge T110 II graphics card.  The ATI Radeon HD 5450 is a good choice for the Dell PowerEdge T110 II because if its (approximately 10W) low energy consumption.

After trying several HD 5450 (listed below), a graphics card that works is a "VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 - graphics card - Radeon HD 5450 - 2 GB memory DDR3 - PCI Express 2.1 x 16'.

Edit: Thanks to paikat for the following references, (see his assignment for the links, where to buy)...
    VisionTek manufacturer: 900356
    Reference Dell: A6173020

This card works when the monitor is connected to the VGA/D-SUB/DB15 connector. I wasn't looking to connect to HDMI or DVI connectors.

After you install this graphics card, passed the BIOS Setup:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: enabled

    by saying:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: Standard

and allowed to move from "Standard" to "Distributed" so it now says:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: distributed

Note: Install the card with the monitor connected to the integrated video port / edge, change the BIOS to Distributed settings, restart the computer and then connect the monitor to the Discrete / distributed / video port to Add on.

Here are the identifiers on the "VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 - graphics card - Radeon HD 5450 - 2 GB memory DDR3 - PCI Express 2.1 x 16'

    SR2002
I have read this thread and seen the suggestion of VisionTek, it also works with the card mother E3-1230V2?

My guess is the Dell PowerEdge T110 II uses the same motherboard for various configurations of CPU, but this is only a guess.

    SR2002
Also, are there better options eventually with the support of 12 DDR5 and directx?

None that I know, but I've only tried a few cards. Please let us know if you find cards better than the VisionTek 900356

    SR2002
I saw a thread suggesting ASUS GTX650-E-2GD5, someone at - he of the inputs on this card?

I tried a GeForce GT 610 2 GB and it did not work.  Check the use of the GTX650-E-2GD5 (DPT) power and make sure that it is less than 25 watts (see below)

    Quick notes:

    1. the location of PCIe x 16 is actually a "full-size x 8 slot" (also known as an x 16 slot / x 8) and the video card needs to work in this type of accommodation.

    2. video card power (TDP) is a limiting factor. Technical guide Dell says "the system supports a maximum power of 25 W for all four cards PCIe.»  and said Dell owner's manual "ATTENTION: to ensure correct cooling, not more than two cards of four extension may have more than 15 W power consumption (maximum 25 W each), not to mention the integrated storage controller card."

3 install the card with the monitor connected to the integrated video port / edge, change the built-in BIOS devices > on-board video controller 'Activated' / 'Standard' to 'Distributed', restart the computer and then connect the monitor to the Discrete / distributed / video port to Add on.

  • How to install ESXi 5.1 Server DELL with ESXi 5.5 installed on IDSDM?

    Hello

We get a new DELL server that gets 5.5 ESXi installed on IDSDM.

Given that we are still using ESXi 5.1, we want to set up this server to make it work also ESXi 5.1 update 3.

There are 2 physical disks in SAS, which has been configured as RAID1.

We would like to know when we install ESXi 5.1, ought to move the disk RAID1 or IDSDM cards?

If IDSDM cards are preferred, is used for the local HD in RAID?

If we should install on local RAID HD, can we use IDSDM as SSD for ESXi host cards?

    Thank you

In addition, if we install in the HD, can we use the SD card to ESXi host? : - You can install in HD and SD card is used to keep the backup in case of failure of HD of ESXi image. To do this, you must put the image cache in the SD card.

If you install in the SD card, then you must configure the scratches in HD because of the constraint of space with CD card.
