Failure to make an external HARD drive... Why?

I took an old SATA hard drive and installed in an external enclosure.

The accommodation has all the fittings supply, a USB 2.0 port and an e-SATA port.

I want to format the drive it connected to a USB port of spare on my desk. The PC recognizes a device has been plugged in, driver loaded, but I can't access the device at all.

In Control Panel / devices and printers, he appears as a "USB to Serial bridge - ATA" and I can access its properties. I want to use it as an external storage,

HOW CAN I DO THIS? Help! PLEASE, I BEG YOU!

So that shows disk management?

    Hello.

Here at my office, we have a server that contains records of employment. Whenever a task is completed, and is no longer needed, remove us the server and drop it on an external hard drive. This allows us to keep completed jobs in case they need to be referenced later while still freeing up space on the server.

From now on, I am in possession of an external hard drive. Unfortunately, it's a little awkward for other people here at the office have constantly come to me old job information.

So, this brings me to my question. Is there a way to ensure that all users of the network can access the information on the external hard drive? I'm pretty sure it's possible. I am running Windows XP. I plugged external and active Simple file sharing.  I already tried simply by looking at the properties of the drive and affecting him so it is shared with other people on the network. I was still not able to access the drive on the network. Do I need some kind of special material? I am naïve. Can someone help me?

It must be configured as a shared folder for third-party access to the drive on the network.  Since you are not using a real server but the working groups (serving on workstation) each machine that is trying to access the files must have the same account that you use on the computer"to serve."

BTW, XP Pro allows only 10 'connections' and it's not computers but "services" to connect to it.

Have you tried to plug the external drive into the server and share where using field of the server if the server runs a network of real estate?
  • Re: Portege R830 eSATA - failure to mount the external hard drive

{color: #000000} I have a new Portege R830 with combined eSATA / USB port. It will recognize an external drive in as drive 0 Device Manager but does not mount the drive under Win 7 x 64. The road rises and works absolutely normally under USB2 via the combined port or one of the other ports on the PC. The player works absolutely normally under eSATA on another desktop PC Win 7 x 64

Search Internet suggests that this is a widespread problem with Win 7, but given the above commentary to normal operation on my desk, strongly indicates that it is "simply" a laptop Toshiba driver problem Win 7 x 64.

A workaround solution that someone had reported was to boot the PC with the drive connected. This will lead to the PC mount the drive, but I found to be unreliable - tends to freeze the unpredictable machine, but when logged in it showed he was transferring data at a reasonable speed.

The search for these forums, no solution has not identified... Toshiba - think you should answer it please!

Afetr all is a 'feature' significant on the Portege and rather defeats the point if it is impossible to use...

    Kind regards

    Hi mate

First of all, it is a forum for a user to this don t address issues from Toshiba here in the forum, but other users of this community.

Back to your question; Does this mean that the HARD drive connected to the eSATA port cannot be recognized as device eSATA but USB device?

Please check if you are using the latest version of the BIOS. On the European driver Toshiba page, you can find the BIOS version transferred to 29/07/11.
In addition, I recommend to check the BIOS settings; check if eSATA is activated it.

  • What are the things to do and not do purge external hard drive?

Well, now that I got the big breakthrough on my 1st question in another category, thank you Gerry (England) and Pa bear!  Now on what is probably extremely easy for you. I have an external hard drive and when I got this HP computer about 2 years ago, I took and put ALL of my old computer inside (not realizing I didn't need to put some programs/trash etc.) All I wanted was to put documents / my pictures etc, SO WHAT are the things and make my external hard drive purge? Thank you...   Kind REGARDS Nicole Ramirez

P.S. did publish in the right category?

What I would do is create a new folder, move to this folder the items I wanted to keep, and then delete all the rest or I would move to another disk (or temporary storage in the cloud) these elements, I would like to keep, quick-format of the disk and replace the kept items.

  • Cannot restore to external hard drive

    Hi all

I use Premiere Pro for a while, and I'm pretty comfortable with it. However, I could not yet find a way to make an external hard drive. Every time I make it says that there are approximately 32 GB of free space to return in. But my external hard drive has 1.42 TB of free space.

I have chaged the location of "Media Cache files" on the external drive.

I changed the location of "Media Cache database" on the external drive.

Every time I make again, he says there is only 32 GB of free space on my computer. I really need to be able to return on the external hard drive, because I work with a large amount of high quality video every day.

Is it possible to make in my external hard drive?

    Thank you!

Wow, I actually just found the solution.

If you go to the project settings and in the tab "Scratch the disc" change them to locations on your external drive return on your external drive.

    Thank you all!

  • Why my external hard drive cannot be mounted or viewd by a Macbook

    Hello

I can't see my HD exertenal from the finder.

I do not have G-Tech HD and I use with TimeMachine. This HD has two partitions.

The first is used for the backup with Time Machine, a macbook air, and the second partition is used to back up a macbook pro with Time Machine.

It worked fine until I look in the external hard drive (partition macbook). Now, it is not possible to mount the external hard drive. From the Finder, I see no partition eighter the first or the second.

I plugged it in an another mAcbook air and no way to see inside the external hard drive.

Howerver, I pluggged in a 14.04 ubuntu and I was able to navigate through the external hard drive

Why can I see the contents of the external HD with a ubuntu n not with a Macbook?

And how can I solve this problem?

    See you soon

El Capitan has permissions configuration much tighter than earlier versions of Mac OS X and it can become a problem to open files from a different computer. You need to tell us what OS you are running on all computers.

I suspect that Ubuntu is having no problem because it does not under the same restraint of permissions.

It worked fine until I look in the external hard drive (partition macbook).

What you have done here, caused the change of permissions.

Don't forget that connect a player directly on a computer and use it plugged into an airport will have different permissions issues.

I don't have much in the way of a solution. Apple has changed repair them permissions on El Capitan.

You have a Mac running an earlier version of Mac OS X?

If your two partitions are used just to make the Time Machine backups...

  • Toshiba 320 GB external HARD drive make my very slow computer

    Hello.

I bought this product a few weeks ago now, and every time I use it, it makes my computer go tp so slow to the point where I can't actually do something on this subject, due to the fact that everything becomes inadmissible. Also, the rate at which I transfer files to it is also very slow. Any ideas why and what I can do to speed things up a bit?

    Thank you.

    Hello

You suggested that the laptop becomes slowly during the use of the external HARD drive.
I guess that transfer you a data from the HARD drive internal to the external USB HDD.
I think that it s not very rare, that the laptop runs slowly during the transmission of the data.
It depands on the program that runs in the context of the operating system.

I put t know which interface you use USB2 or USB only, but data transfer depends on the interface.

  • Why my computer will not pick up my external hard drive?

Why my computer will not pick up my external hard drive?
    using Windows 7 sp1

    Original title: usb

    Hello Fred,.

Windows 7 sometimes has trouble recognizing external drives connected to the USB ports. There are a number of possible corrections for this.

    1. make sure you that the USB port in question works with another device, that you know works. For example, take a mouse that you know doesn't work and plug it into the USB port is connected. The mouse still works? If Yes, go to #2.

2 do a reset power coercive.

    1. Unplug the power cord. Then (on a laptop) remove the battery.
    2. Unplug all USB devices.
    3. Leave it alone - don't connect or reconnect the devices for several minutes.
    4. After several minutes plug the power supply cord.
    5. Then install the battery.
    6. Turn on the computer and restart as normal without plug any USB device.
    7. Connect your devices one at a time and let them install as usual.

The external hard drive works now? If not, go to #3.

    3. I have and others have used an application of part 3, the freeware Aomei Partition Wizard, download here: http://download.cnet.com/AOMEI-Partition-Assistant-Standard-Edition/3000-18512_4-75118871.html?tag=mncol;1 (only use the Direct download link). Once installed, you need only browse the external drive and select it, then click Properties. That's all; simply choose the drive is enough to get the drive recognized by Windows 7, no formatting required.

I would like to know if one of these methods works for you. After back here with your results.

    Kind regards

  • When I deleted a picture of my MacBook, why it also remove the external hard drive?

So I tried to help my wife to free up space on his MacBook Pro by putting all of his photos on an external hard drive. After iPhoto slide the hard disk and wait 40 minutes so that he could transfer, I wanted to make sure it worked. I ejected the disk and then plugged in. Of course, all iphotos were still there. Just to be sure, I deleted one file in the folder on the computer's iphoto. I went to my shock and horror, the external hard drive, that it has been deleted it too! How is that possible? I've been scouring the Internet trying to retrieve this file with no luck. It was not in the trash. There is a tab "recently deleted". Time machine was not turned on. iCloud shows nothing. I can't download any software, because the computer is completely filled. How is it possible that by deleting this folder on the computer he did also leave the hard drive? AND it has not been saved in the trash? I have used PC, and whenever I need something in return, he was ALWAYS in the trash. And if I deleted something on the computer with an external hard drive connected, it would NEVER be removed from the external hard drive at the same time. I'm so frustrated and feeling SO bad that I deleted a folder with important pictures of our kids. Is that what I can do to recover the pictures? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You used Time Machine at all? I see you say it was not on, but it never on and is at - it a backup Time Machine on the Macbook Pro?

  • Of failure, white screen MacBook Pro HARD drive try to boot from the external HARD drive

    Hello

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro which is having some problems, I was able to fix them, but eventually the hard drive failed. I know that because at startup until it would have a white screen Uni (no logo) and you can hear a clicking on in the lower left corner. I thought initially it was a memory problem, but after opening and verification of memory, it's clearly the hard drive.

I solved this problem temporarily (until I can replace the HARD disk) by installing El captain on an external HARD disc and start from that. Here's the twist, I couldn't he can begin to El captain, I tried CMD + R, CMD + OPT + R, CMD + OPT + R + P and now shift. Everything that's happened would be that clicks would cease to release the keys.

I left the macbook on while I'm at work, when I got home it was on the screen to connect the external HARD drive.

I accidentally closed the macbook yesterday and again once when I tried to log on, I could not and I left it on a white screen while I was sleeping. There is a possibility that he may have launched from the HARD drive when I get home, but if not, is there something that escapes me to force do this?

    See you soon

Usually start up to a blank screen without the Apple Logo, may report one of the following:

    • Hardware failure
    • Boot drive is not recognized as valid and updated updated
    • OS X essential software is missing, hurt moved or renamed or corrupt
    • A firmware update is necessary

No matter who, in order to boot from an external drive "bootable", you would normally hold down the Option key until you get a screen that offers a number of devices to try to boot from.

Alternatively, you can try holding down the C key to try to boot from the external drive.

If none of these startup options work, then the bootable disc or the USB port on your MacBook Pro can be the question.

Since you have a Mac pre-2013, if you hold down the D key while booting, the built-in Apple Hardware Test should start up.  This can help to identify hardware problems.

  • Is there a way to make my photo app on my external hard drive "photo of system library"?

I want to be able to keep my library of photos on my external hard drive, as I have with iPhoto.  I want to save space on my Mac

    No problem

The drive must be in Mac OS extended (journaled) format, connected by a fast wired connection, do not be used as a Time Machine backup and volume still available before launch - quit Photos during Photos and make slide library of Photos for the EHD and double-click it to launch Photos - complete library test and then delete one on the internal disk (test one more time before emptying the trash)

  • Help! Time Machine has deleted my external hard drive iPhotos to make room for backups. I lost my birth iPhotos and the first 2 years of my baby!

I'm next to me, I hope that there is a way to get back them.

I was told my someone from tech apple to my iPhotos on an external hard disk to make more space on my MacBook Air, which seemed to work fine. We also have this same external hard drive my Time Machine.

I noticed a small box from time to time come and say something like, Time Machine is running out of space to record new data, you want to delete things until March 2013 etc. He asked me a few times and I said yes, all the way until June 2014. Now just disappeared in my iPhotos to find some pictures of my daughter when she was a baby (in 2012) and there is nothing there before 2014. I'm completely panic, is there something I can do?

    Thank you, Kate

This is the first time I've posted here, this is the right place to ask this question?

    Can specify you:

You have time machine back ups and an iPhoto library on the same application - no time machine back ups of the library?

Independent of how this feature works, you want to have your photos in one place and have a backup (second copy) somewhere else. All hard drives will not be successful at some point - some more early, some late - never trust to have your files in any safety devices if they are on a single disc. Once you have your sorted, it would be useful that you will organize/name/tag new photos immediately if the task is relatively short and simple. I copy my photos on my internal hard drive for my camera, take a quick look with preview to see who needs some changes and then decide where to put them - either drop them immediately after naming them or bring in an editing application and then file them away.
