Feedback Solution SAN HP StorageWorks virtualization

Hi all:

I would really appreciate it if someone could share opinions on HP StorageWorks Virtualization SAN Solution (P4500 10.8 TB SAS).

All cons, pros... StorageWorks vs Dell Equallogic iSCSI SAN and etc.

Thank you very much

Hello

HP P4000 s who was hp lefthand storage gives you all the free software for the DR solution you're looking for. It is the only product of the storage works that gives these free software.

Some tables also make better use of than other SSDS.  3Par tables can move data between levels based on real models of IO observed.  I know that some EMC bays can use as a second layer of cache.

You should contact the supplier of your table to discuss.

(full disclosure - I work for 3PAR/HP.  If you want to talk about how our tables use SSD and are particularly suitable for VMware, feel free to DM me).

We found the cards Brocade 82 b has no support direct attach (mode loop to be precise). This shouldn't be a problem given your switch, but after finding out the hard way, all of our deployments were with the 82 q and we found them works fine in every ESXi environment we have.

These two cards are however in the HCL and should be good.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8620e ADF jam error after firmware update

After you install the updated firmware from the touch screen of the printer, the printer restarts and now has an error that says "Original is caught in the ADF (ADF).  Open the cover of the ADF, remove and reload the original, then try again. »

I went through all the steps to clear a jam from the ADF, but the opinion is persistent.  It is not (and was not before the upgrade) in the ADF at all.  Since this coincided with the update of the firmware, my suspiscion is that the firmware has not installed properly or something.  What am I doing here?

This problem has been resolved using the printer instead of purchase and exchange for another.  I can hardly believe that the cables are working loose within two weeks, she was detained and then broke at the exact time that the firmware update has been completed.  In any case, the problem was solved by replacing the printer.  I don't have any feedback solutions until a month after I did.

  • How to install windows 7 on a mid-2015 rMBP?

Hello! I have a problem, try to install Windows 7 Pro x 64 via Boot Camp on a mid-2015 rMBP. The laptop came with El Capitan preinstalled that BCA 6.0.1 who does not choose any OS prior to version 8 of Windows. And I really need a Windows 7 for reasons of the software company. Is it possible to persuade the laptop to accept Windows 7 without invoking Voodoo weird software? Certainly, I scoured the forums before posting here, but has not found a solution to my problem.

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy

If you really need W7 on this particular model, it requires a little bit of Voodoo if Bootcamp is a must. The simplest solution is to use virtualization, and create a virtual of W7 machine.

  • Connect UCS to Nexus

    Hello

I add UCS FI to our network, connect you to a switch of Nexus. our network has several VLANS isolate and VLAN normal, that all should be trunk to FI. The port of the switch, can I do mode normal trunk, or private - vlan trunk.

    Hello

In general, all them VLANs is defined in a domain UCS are shared resources on any Nortbound links, see

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/UCS-...

However, there is also the notion of vlan disjoint, see

  • Addition of VLAN model vNIC gives recoverable warning on no uplink with all the VLANS

We try to add a new VLAN to an existing model vNIC. When I select the check box for the VLAN under Edit VLAN, I get:

    Your changes:

    Create: [new VLAN]

Will result in a warning of non-fatal configuration for:

    Service profile [ProfileName]

Reason: Could not find any operational uplink port that carries all the VLAN of the vNIC (s). VNIC (s) will be closed down, which lead us to disruptions of traffic on all the VLANS existing on the vNIC (s).

We have currently VLAN assigned to the model, of which some are carried by a channel of port on our switch of production, the rest are carried by an Ethernet interface for our perimeter switch.

This error occurs because no interface/PC carries all the VLAN assigned on its own?

    Am I missing something?

    Thank you for any assistance.

    Joe

    Hello

Even if you have a port channel and a separate uplink Ethernet carrying all them VLAN which required servers, your vnic will only be pinned to the port-channel or the uplink Ethernet never at the same time, so if your vnic is currently pinned on the port-channel and the new VLAN is assigned to the Ethernet interface you may be seeing this error message. To resolve this problem, you must ensure that the uplink your vnic is pinned puts implement all the VLANS that you want.  See doc below

  • Mini of the UCS + 4 switches, no VLAN

    Hi all

    I have a mini UCS with 6324 modules e/s with B200 m3 x 5 blades, each ESXi 6.0 running.

I want to uplink the UCS mini with four cables to four switches separated for traffic, and I wish that each host ESXi b200 see four separate vmincs, one on each network. The switches have no VLAN, but running DHCP. I want to get DHCP from each card.

How can I go on the correspondences between the vNIC?  Groups of LAN Pin?

    Hi Alex,

That is right. You can also implement Layer 2 disjoint explained in the guide below for more secure access.

  • DNS and multitenant

When I load virtual machines in an environment secure multitenant where network isolation layer is needed between tenants, this means that each tenant has their own dns domain?  If research and by transmitting and so on must occur between DNS servers, then I need to create a DNS infrastructure dedicated to each tenant.  What is the standard way to approach this issue, which is both handy and imposed isolation?  Are there special DNS infrastructure solutions that are especially Virtualization/cloud/multitenant-friendly?

    Hello

I set up a DNS Zone by tenant and let the tenant to manipulate the area if necessary. That's what most of the organizations. DNS is tough enough as it is and you can lock the box within the DNS updates to specific areas or even systems. Only not on this one think too, using what is built into DNS.

Some tenants will want their own DNS server that they order that transmits to your main DNS, but for those who need you to manage their DNS, DNS is already quite capable.

  • iSCSI SAN Solution

I'm looking into buying an iSCSI SAN solution and seeking feedback on sellers work better with vSphere. I looked at EqualLogic and LeftHand and want imput people using these or other solutions.

Not at all. It won't make any difference, I prefer the blades. LeftHand will work even with the blades or rack.

  • is it an effective solution for SAN Extension in terms of Cisco?

    Hello

I was looking for a solution for developing/Piazza SAN and connect two to SAN located in the different data center which are in a separate physical location of each other, a solution such as FCIP and iSCSI Cisco documents, but unfortunately there isn't any configuration example or case study on the use of this technology to extend SAN traffic via links of Wan between different data centers I need to know if anyone had a successful experience on a situation like this.

    Hi Amir

The solution is really depends on your situation; for example.

    -distance between sites

    -Black fibers available

    -bandwidth requirement

    -the requirement of redundancy

The solution could be CWDM, DWDM on dark fiber (usually without the active optical amplifiers up to 80 +-10 km and typical speeds 8 G FC); BB (buffer) credit per port is a key factor

FCIP is a nice solution, ranging almost unlimited distance; Type 1 or 10 G a Ethernet connectivity.

iSCSI; No, this isn't a SAN extension technology.

The flagship for the FCIP is Cisco MDS switch fabric Multiservice 9250i:

  • 3rd party such as san replication solution: strategy

    Dear Experts,

Can you please share some of your ideas.

Oracle DataGuard comes free with Oracle Enterprise Edition (EE). The only reason why a company could NOT use Oracle DataGuard is because they are not on the ERA and the cost of upgrading to EE just to use DataGuard does not justify the price.

With 3rd party such as san replication solution. (for example hp3par)

It is obvious that the all-flash backup can be quick.

What should be the strategy to have DR site get a few seconds, if the primary site failed for some reason any

    1. daily incremental backup with RMAN. And archive backup runs for every 1 minutes

    2. so that the DR site facing up and running within 60 seconds, it still requires too much time to restore the database on remote site and have archive APPLIED setpoint

What could be the solution with san replication? RTO = 60 seconds

    Thanks ivw

    Hello

Great topic, I'll try to summarize all this in a post.

I have worked with HP EVA for a few years and I must say that I have used many of the features of replication - HP EVA Business Copy (local replication) and HP EVA continues access (remote replication) as well - for the oracle database and other applications as well. Most storage systems use copy-on-write to create two points in time of the LUN (snapshot) image or clone LUN using cow again.

Of course, like other people, said earlier the replication SAN is block based, in the same way with Dataguard, you have synchronous and asynchronous replication. When your data is written to the data files it usually goes in storage cache and then is pushed down the disc as soon as it will be more efficient, at the same point, replication is pushing data to the Dominican Republic. The same way with Dataguard if you use synchronous replication that you won't get you "speedy return" until the blocks of primary storage has been written for DR storage system.

I never had problems with replication to be honest. I used a lot of copy of databases of production using local replication. For example if you want to quickly test a patch on the production system, you can create a snapshot that will only increase with the amount of changes you have made. The only concern is nowadays though we use ASM so if your diskgroup names are the same in DEV that the PROD does not work the approach that I mention.

Regarding remote replication - because you do not have Dataguard more every time you failover to the Dominican Republic to your database will pass by instance recovery!

Regardless of the type of replication is not the speed but the latency of the network - SAN or Dataguard, you will always have a penalty of a long replication distance. The biggest typical WAN latency factor is the speed of light, via fiber optic cable, which is about 124 miles per millisecond. Based on that you can calculate what would be the round-trip latency time.

Indeed for many people SE installation choose DBvisit Standby to manage their databases on hold. I did the installation of the couple and it is really simple and works out of the box. However, your RPO depends on how often you switch your redologs and how many times you ship them to the backup site. You must configure dbvisit to spend with each log file (all the 5,10,15 minutes) OR configure archive_lag_target to configure OR use both at the same time. Also, you can store a copy of the archivelogs on a separate location just in case, for example, an NFS share.

And finally my five cents on RAC on Clusters of extended - be careful with this one. Each of the nodes in the extended database cluster need access to both storage (primary and DR) systems. You must also third location to store a voting quorum disk, usually an NFS share. It is also very important to note that the latency between the nodes is of crucial importance due to global cache activity.

    Kind regards

  • Startup to virtualization... What is the best solution to connect to ESXi?

    Hello;

I started on virtualization and have some simple doubts on how to move forward... I hope someone can help me... (I hope I'm using the right forum to ask this question).

I tested VMWare, and, so far, I made just a few steps:

1.-j' VMWare ESXi (hypervisor) installed in a server.

    2. - I can connect to this server of VMWare ESXi with my Windows machine vSphere Client, and I created on the VMWare ESXi server a machine Suse Linux, I can use a lot of my windows machine and the software installed on it in vSphere Client.

So far, everything is Ok, but I would go further:

3 - I would like to be able to connect to this virtual machine for Linux on other computers, we (Windows, Linux)... And now, it's when I start to mix all the solutions and products, I prefer not to install the vSphere Client in all machines, because I'm not all machines to be able to administer virtual machines, but only to 'use ':

I found there is a VMware View Agent, but I have failed to connect to my virtual Linux box, because after I installed on my Windows Machine, on the first screen, I put the IP address of my Linux virtual machine and get the message "unable to connect to...". ». I think it is because I have not installed the VMware discover the connection to the server... The truth is that to begin with, I don't plan to do more than 10 virtualized machines, therefore, I would like to avoid a solution where I have to install more software in addition to machines...

... And that's when my doubts:

    4. - what would be the most simple solution to connect to different machines to my newly created Linux box and 'use' VMware (not use)? (other VSphere Client to avoid someone administer my VM).

5 - if I could use this solution on Windows and Linux? (Even better if I could use this solution to replace the operating system of the different machines and allow the machines just to start and connect to the virtual machines, because some machines are old, and I would like to re - use as a computer thinclient, in which, at the start, only will be apear icons of different machines to connect)

    Thank you!

    Alberto.

Welcome to the community - just treat the VM as you would a physical machine - connect via RDP, SSH etc - which you could do with a Windows machine or lelievre

See VMware Virtualize your desktops - that would be the solution to answer your question 5 that you could use a workstation as a terminal Wyse to allow a user to connect via AD and connect to their virtual office.
