  Dear friends,

  I have HP Storageworks ultrium 960, I have problem with duct tape, the problem is I did error cartridge insertion of data, it must insert the ultrium LTO3 tape, but I made mistake insertion LTO4, and then the problem is blink on tape error, data cartridge ejects, until I have ejection force (push eject button 1 minutes and the cartdige of data on) , but the Ribbon cut and leaves the tape inside. I got the tape and remove all the tape, after all clear I insert the right data LTO3 cartridge. Insertion of bands normally but, then again, this continually, I check inside (I take a part the case) and to see the process inside, tape/band not pull by the mechanic on the disk.

  There the suggestion for us how to solve the problem? or maybe a component because of the breakdown in Miss insert the data cartridge?

• Can't get HP storageworks MSA60 to be seen rookie

  I installed ESXi 5 on a HP DL380 G5 which has a Storageworks MSA60 with 9 directly connected via a smart array P800 controller 300 GB sas drives. Vsphere 5.1 using I can see the controller P800 but nothing connected to it although I can see the internal drive on the DL380 connected via another controller. I don't know if it's the Storageworks which is not compatible or something else.

  Any help appreciated as I am on a steep learning curve.

  The MSA60 is literally an external disk enclosure. VMware doesn't support it. By that, I mean if you were to install Windows, you do not see the MSA60 in your device manager, it does not take any sort of driver. You'd see the RAID P800 map and some trendy on logical disks. Imagine opening a server, your internal SAS cable running through a hole in the back and hang on your external drives to the server. It's about the MSA60.

  The P800 IS supported by VMware, so this configuration should work. However, what you have in VMware is any interface to create a RAID array. And without that ESXi he sees just as a vacuum controller. Your server, being a very old G5, will not have the software Intelligent Provisioning of modern systems allows to work around this problem either. So you need to do is:

  Download a copy of the HP SmartStart CD

  Boot to CD says

  Go to the table where controller utility

  Create RAID arrays and then one or more logical drives. Keep them under 2 TB. Although ESXi 5.1 stand, I wouldn't be confident that your older hardware would work well with it.

  Reboot to ESXi, you should be able to create a data store.

  I'll put up 4 ESXi 5 servers attached to a HP P2000 SAN. I'm quite familiar with ESX and VMware. have been running ESX 3.5 for about 3 years. This new environment gives me a problem that ESXi 5 does not see the HBAs HP StorageWorks 81 b installed on servers HP Proliant DL 380 G7. I see that it is a known issue and I have been tring to follow the directions outlined in the RFSO HP (see link below). I the document is poorly written and not very clear. I'm stuck at step 3 where it says:

  "Install the HBA driver. Download driver HBA Brocade, extract the compressed file and burn (or climb) the ISO image. Download and install VMware vSphere CLI. Open the CLI and change directory C:\Program VMware vSphere CLI\bin .

  Run the following command and check do not omit the dot and bar backslash:

  According to HCL, the adapter is not supported on ESXi 5.0.

  However it looks like there is a driver for ESXi 5.0 to http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/dt_esxi50_brocade_bfa_3000/dHRAYnRqdGpiZHAlJQ== that you could try (at your own risk) rather than the one you mentioned. Installation instructions are included in the zip file.

  This is a combo card because if you connect hard drives you can use it as a raid card, or if no drive is directly connected to the card then it can serve as a relay SAS card.   Hey guys, ive got 3 switches that I bought from a client (WITHOUT guarantee on the left).
  they all had BOOT PROM password.

  1. we did I press on enter 2 times, and then the switch created a password for inconnud

  2. in the second place I didn't pass, I guess that thay have sam problem as me and sent to our hands.

  3 I didn't know the password and I press ESC to the ram doesn't load properly, then the switch put a password that I don't know.

I've been looking for a pdf or a document on the compatibility matrix, but I have not found anything. The question is: "CISCO provides a datasheet on the compatibility between the MDS 9000 switches and HBA cards matrix?"

• HP Proliant NAS Software bluescreen

  Hello!

  We have an old HP Proliant NAS computer to my work. We no longer use the NAS features, so I exported it as a virtual machine in VMWare to use as a PDF printer. But as soon as I start the virtual machine, I get the following error message:

  "The server you are using cannot run hp ProLiant NAS software correctly. You may be in violation of your license agreement. Please contact HP support immediately if you believe that this message by mistake. The server will be blue screen in 1 a minute. »

  And after a minute the bluescreens machine. I tried to remove anything that has to do with the NAS software, but it seems that I can't get rid of everything, because the error message still appears. I tried to call the HP support center, but they couldn't help me because we have not left on the machine no warranty. Then someone could just tell me how to uninstall the software that I is no longer necessary?

  I am new to testing with vmware ESXi 5.5.

  I did an instalation on the old server (DL380 G5), which was fine (I didn't add drivers to monitor health P400 control).

  I'm now trying to intall ESXi 5.5. U1 on HP DL380 G7 with HP Smart Array P410i controller and attached is a HP StorageWorks NAS too.

  I'm having a problem where my local drives are not detected during installation. NAS logical drives are detected.

  The processor is E5620.

  I first tried with the image not specified for HP, then also that I found good site HP, two ESX 5.5 U1. Same behavior.

  I have still a start-up Win 2 K 3 R2 on the server and the array controller works fine, there are 3 SAS RAID1 + spare drives. A logical drive.

  I updated FW P410i version 6.00 - 2. I ran 8.7 B PSP update which can be updated. Still no effect. I even tested it on its host (without updateing) 2nd future cluster, but it does the same thing.

  I pressume I do something wrong maybe, because it detects old Array P400 controllers on other places, so should it also the new.

  Can't really change the controller of Bay physically, as I do remotely.

  Tips are welcome. If more information is needed, I'll be happy to add it.

  I was given a task of cloning our Server 2008 system, Server 2003 on it, then add new Server 2008 after; but I think there is a much easier way, which is simply create a Server 2003 image and use it with VMWare.

  What we're trying to accomplish is to recover files from our old tapes, and we have a problem with the HP Library and Tape Tools program to recover the data.

  My question is, are there drivers that support by adding the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 920 to a Virtual Machine? It will also recognize the Ribbon when it is inserted? How can I add a tape drive to the VM?

  In my view, this is a much easier option (creating a virtual machine) that cloning, imaging, cloning etc etc etc.

• Config for the SAN array issues

  Hi all
  We have a HP StorageWorks SAN x 1600 with the x 6 hard drives of 2 TB. The idea is to use as shared for our iSCSI network storage (we have x 2 ESXi hosts).
  The SAN is running Windows 2008 Storage Server and it is quite simple, using the ACU (matrices configuration utility) to create required tables (logical drive). So, the first port of call is to set up the berries.
  We have our minds set on using RAID10, for performance reasons. So, if configure us all the drives in a RAID10 array, which gives us 6 TB of usable space. However, a very large "single" painting would be allowed from a performance point of view, or would it be better to divide it? Taking into account, that we have x 6 physical disks in the SAN (and x 4 min are necessary for RAID10).
  Also, I read somewhere that it is better to have 1:1 relationship of the array to LUN/Datastore - is this correct? In this case, we had better divide, but then we have to rethink our RAID levels.
  Note: we use vSphere 5 and will be a mixture of VMs: exchange, sql, web server, servers citrix etc.
  Any suggestions for how to best use the x 6 hard drives of 2 TB in our SAN?

  More chucks in the table, the better performance.

  It is not just "better", you must configure a LUN by the data store. That said, there is no reason that you cannot configure your table 6 TB with 2-3 logics LUN. This would lead to better use of multiple paths.

  Edit: I misread the statement. There is no recommendation that I've ever heard of involving a 1:1 relationship between the table and the data store. This would violate the rule more "spindles".

  That said, in my reading of the quickspec, only 2 TB disks never sold on the X 1600 were 7200 RPM SATA. It's probably worthy of being honest about what you expect from this - RAID levels and layouts LUN will not perform this in a Citrix/Exchange environment.
