  Calls are outside the jurisdiction of the country in which the calls are placed. This is why they do not stop.

  Microsoft has no idea who is running Windows and who is not and certainly can't tell if your computer is infected with malware.

  What you receive is scam calls from abroad callers get your name and phone number from telephone directories online and then call in the hope that there will be a gullible Windows user at the other end.

  The fact that they called you is violating your privacy. For service companies, if you call them and ask for help, they will call you back or if request you the support from them. But if someone calls you out of blue and you say they could help you, it is likely to be a SCAM, I suggest to take a look at:

  This is a scam and that is becoming more and more common lately. But
  worse, if you leave them in your computer, which knows what losses are that they
  done there, or what confidential information they stole.
  So, if you did. I highly recommend that you do both of the following
  immediately:

  1 do a clean reinstall of Windows.
  2. change all of your passwords, especially banks or other
  financial sites.

  I received a phone call from a company claiming to be windows saying a virus had hit my computer and I had to follow its procedures to address them.  I refused and said I would call them back, he said to call 2896451510 and that he was in the New Hampshire USA and his name was Ron.  This guy knew my home and then asked me how many girls or boys lived here... that's when I hung up.

  Its a scam. If they call it still cling. I had 2 these calls than several of my clients and I also had them. By all accounts Microsoft do not have this kind of activity, not even through other companies.

  By curiosity on where in the world are you? I was just wondering if it's a global phenomenon not only limited to the United Kingdom.

  Without that society is not authentic. It's all part of a scam to gain access to your pc and steal your personal data.

  Unless you have a pre-paid with Microsoft, support contract they (Microsoft) will never contact you for problems on your PC.

  You did the right thing by hanging up on them. If that happens again, just ignore them.

  I continue to receive calls from a company called wintech and a man who is obviously in India, but called Shane Watson!   I was on the phone for about 3 hours for him today!  I pay money for them last year and am now being harassed to pay more. He gave me a 020 30262097 phone number and identification number to authenticate his call. The company that the payments go to the e-business solutions East nias. He showed me the screens that are supposed to be errors on my PC and also stated that the pirates are using my IP address to hack other computers?  I don't know if it is a lie. It sounds me again in the morning to take payment for software that is supposed to be for a "performance booster PC + anti software piracy" after reading some of these posts, I'm now really worried that he already won access to my PC.

  We have all the errors and warnings in our Event Viewer, which is another ploy they use to scare you

  Either these so-called "Microsoft" Tech companies want to sell you a worthless software, or remote access to your computer to try to steal your credit card and bank information and also achieve an identity theft on you.

  You are the only person who knows if you gave them remote access.

  If you gave them remote access and you do Internet banking, contact your bank, to explain, and change passwords.

  If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

  And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

  Yes, it's a scam. Do not give them access to your PC, they will try to steal personal data such as bank details etc. When they call again just tell them you don't have a PC or simply hung up. Never provide personal details or credit card number because they are also after the money too.

  Unless you have a prepaid contract or have opened a support ticket no Microsoft will call you about your PC problems.

  I received several calls from a company called 'eprotectionz' technical department which proposes to rid your computer of an "infection" (no virus) apparently slowing down Windows. In a first time, I finished the callwhen they began to ask questions about my computer.  They are appatently a global company - I am based in Australia and on checking their site, they operate out of the Australia and other countries. Their phone number here in Aust is 02-8091-0114. This company is legitimate.  I become more suspicious when they ask to enter my computer remotely while I followed the instructions to remove the so-called infection.  I don't trust everybody these days and trust no one!
