Help: WRT160N v3

Hello

I have a WRT160N Version 3 with Time Warner Cable Road Runner in New York and I'm under the 3.001 Firmware.  Yesterday morning, it seems that resets the connection and now my wireless connection is either intermetinent, inactive, or extremely slow when it works.  However, my wired connection works normally.  I tried resets and power cycles last night without success.  I use a PC with Windows XP and a MacPowerBook, and of course, Iphones and BlackBerry wireless market, everything ran great until yesterday.

Could someone please help or suggest a correction?  Is it a problem of Time Warner or a router issue?  Is there anyway that the cable company might have something wrong on their end which would affect my wireless connection?  I wouldn't think so if my wired LAN connection is good, but I don't know?  Please help because it is extremely frustrating and tiring, I spent many hours trying to get this working last night without success.

Thank you

Joe

If your wired computer works fine, so I don't think that this could be the problem with your ISP. In these cases, you must check the settings of your router wireless. When you connect to your router configuration page, you can perform the following changes under part wireless router.

For wireless settings, follow these steps: -.
Click on the Wireless tab

-Here, select manual configuration... Wireless network mode must be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the name box of the wireless network (SSID) in order to differentiate your network from your network of neighbors...

-Set the Standard - 20 MHz Radio band and change the Standard channel to 11-2, 462 GHz... Wireless SSID broadcast should be enabled and then click on save settings...
Please take note of the name of the wireless network (SSID) because it's the network identifier...

For wireless security: -.
Click the sub-tab under wireless > Wireless Security...

Change the mode of WPA wireless security, encryption, select TKIP. Password input your desired WPA key. For example, MySecretKey, this will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and do not forget the key.

NOTE: The password must be more than 8 characters...

Click the settings advanced wireless

Change the tag to 75 interval, change the Fragmentation threshold to 2304, change the RTS threshold to 2304 and click on save settings...

Now let's see if you can locate your wireless network and try to connect...

I came down for the summer at home with my parents and it seems that they have disconnected the router that I put in place around Christmas time last year - and now I forgot the password. I know that the password for the WiFi network general, but I don't remember what I put for access network (e.g. 192.168.1.1) is there a way to reset it? My parents have a ye olde Mac Tiger and refuse to upgrade. Nevertheless, I have a WRT160N and when I go to use the installation/setup disk it always comes back with something in the sense of "I'm sorry, we can not recognize your gateway" or something like that. I've tried everything I can for the past hour and have no idea what I'm doing wrong (when it asks for a password to the beginning of the month I do not always do anything, I click on the "I won't need this" (or whatever he said, I took a break and decided to ask for help).) I think what happened is that when my parents or the person abducted the router, the computer is now looking for the original (which I have no idea as to why). I hooked everything exactly the way the software says (ethernet to PC, internet to the router to the Modem, etc.) ... still nothing. Can anyone help?

Nevermind, I ended up unplugging the modem ! Then I googled after the modem restarted, it was fine then. Good luck to anyone having this problem!

  • Problems with WRT160N and Xbox 360 - please help

    Hello

I recently bought a WRT160N router and when I play games online (Halo 3 or Modern Warfare 2) it takes about 10 minutes to find a game then that in the Hall. I didn't put in the door or disconnected from my profile, there's just a lot of time. It says that my NAT type is open. I've isolated the problem is the router because if I plug in an ethernet cable from the 360 to the DSL modem I find games instantly. I examined the port forwarding and open ports on the 360 and specifically for modern warfare 2 and it was actually my NAT type go as strict, ironic. I have spent 5 hours trying to mess with this and can't seem to make it work right. If someone could please help me on the settings or have any other ideas that would be greatly appreciated.

As your ISP is a provider DSL, most providers DSL has setup their modem in DHCP Mode, so your Modem acts like a router. So, right now, your Setup is NAT behind NAT. So if you try to open the Ports on your Linksys router it does not work as your Modem Hangs only ports.

So the best way to work is to convert your Modem in Bridge Mode and it will solve all your problems.

  • Need help with Linksys WRT160N!

I had a Linksys WRT160N (version 1) for a few years. I plugged it on my desk, followed by a VOIP router and a cable modem. Internet through Comcast cable with typical 15 to 20 Mbps DL and around 4 Mbps UL (via Speedtest.net and Speakeasy). My only wireless connections have been a Wii and PS3 without any speed problems (both tested).

I just got a netbook Samsung N150 Plus with Win7 Starter and my DL speed is only 0.5-0.7 MB/s but UL is always around 4 Mbps. But only on the netbook... everything else is fine. I tried everything to fix this... updated the firmware on the router, tested the netbook on a different wireless network to ensure that it was not the wireless adapter (works fine), checked computer wired (works fine), tried different channels, tried to turn filtering off, tried to disable the firewall, tried to disable the blocking of anonymous requests etc. I read through other posts and the consensus was to get a new router. I can't believe this is my only option. Am I completely missing a simple difficulty here? Help, please!

Thanks (and bear with me as I'm not as technically savvy as maybe others).

OK... I had finally straightened it. I downloaded the latest version of EasyLink Advisor on my desktop and just rested on my network software. Wireless on my netbook DL speed went from 0.5 Mbps to 15 Mbps. I don't know why... all I know is that I couldn't install the LELA original (from included CD) on Windows 7 (x 86) although I managed to install the network very well (new PC is around the age of 6 months... used to have XP). Nothing has changed in the configuration of the router settings (at least not manually), so I'm not sure why it works now that LELA is installed on the Windows 7 desktop. If anyone knows I'm curious to know why this is... just in case someone else he meets and needs information.

  • WRT160N V3 games problems! need help!

OK, here's our problem, I just moved about 6 weeks ago and have since purchased a wrt160n router, my brother and I can lose countless hours playing COD4 on our ps3 (2 on our network both wireless) we often have trouble connecting when playing @ simultaneously. He seems to get along with him immediately online, but when I log in game, I have to wait anywhere between 5 to 20 minutes, because it now says 'download settings', we thought it was a problem of the internet from comcast, but now I hear about port forwarding? I was power cycling think it was a bad internet connection and the strange thing is going online with the ps3 it gets first right line but the other must wait 5 to 20 minutes? someone has an idea? I can't find the help I need or if I can't find an article on this subject, it does not specify if the fix works for more than 1 PS3?

    Our facility:

    Cable modem

    Router WRT160n

    1 computer (wired connection)

    1 laptop (wireless)

and 2 Playstation 3 (both wireless)

You have to open the Ports to your PS3 on your router. If this isn't the case, then I think it is perhaps because of this, you have to deal with this problem.

Open an Internet Explorer browser on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press ENTER... Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase...

This settings are for your 1st PS3.

On the Configuration tab, change MTU size in 1452 and click on save settings...

Once you return to the game to the top page, click the Security tab and uncheck block anonymous Internet requests and click on save settings...

Click on the tab "Games and Applications" and then click the sub-tab "Port Range Forwarding"...

    (1) on the first line in the box, type Application in ABC, in the start box, type 80 and type of box in 80, leave the Protocol as and under type 192.168.1.20 ip address and check the box to enable...

    (2) on the second line in the box, type Application in DEF, in the start box, type in 443 and the type of box in 443, leave the Protocol as and under type 192.168.1.20 ip address and check the box to enable...

    (3) on line 3 in box from Application to the IAD, in the start box, type type in 5223 and type of box in 5223, leave the Protocol as and under type 192.168.1.20 ip address and check the box to enable...

    (4) on the fourth line in Application area type in JKL, in the start box, type in 3478 and 3479 end box type, leave the Protocol as and under type 192.168.1.20 ip address and check the box to enable...

    (5) on the fifth line of type Application in MNO, in the start box, box type in 3658 and type of box in 3658, leave the Protocol as and under type 192.168.1.20 ip address and check the box to enable...

    (6) on the sixth row in the box, type Application in PQR, in the start box, type 10070 to 10080 end box type, leave the Protocol as and under type 192.168.1.20 ip address and check the enable box and click on save settings

    (7) now assign IP on the ip address of your PlayStation:-192.168.1.20, subnet mask:-255.255.255.0 default gateway:-192.168.1.1...

    (8) also assign addresses dns on the primary dns of PlayStation:-4.2.2.2... Secondary dns:-192.168.1.1

    (9) turn off your modem, router and PlayStation... Wait a minute...

    (10) connect the power supply to the modem first, wait another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute, and turn on the PlayStation and test...

For you 2 PS3, follow this setting.

When you connect to the router configuration page, click on 'Application and Gaming' and then click on the "DMZ" sub-tab below, click on 'Activate' and in the IP Source address, type the IP address: 192.168.1.50 and clik on save settings.

Now you need to assign a static IP address on your 2nd PS3. 192.168.1.50 subnet mask IP address:-255.255.255.0 default gateway:-192.168.1.1... Primary dns:-4.2.2.2... Secondary dns:-192.168.1.1...

Turn off your modem, router and PlayStation... Wait a minute...

Now try to connect your PS3 to your wireless network and try to play this game and see how his work.

  • I need help, open my NAT for an xbox 360 on a WRT160N v3

Hey guys. I just got a new wrt160N v3 and I need help on opening the NAT. I use to have the wrt160N v2 but I replaced it. so can you guys please help me. Thank you

Okay I found the solution myself. Here's what you do:

Open a Web browser and type your default gateway which is usually: 192.168.1.1

After you do this type in as the admin and the password admin its also admin once you open a session go in application and games and go to the subcategory "port range forwarding."

For the first set appliction Xbox1 and the beginning and the end, the port numbers are 88. The Protocol is both and the IP address must end at 120.

For the second application updated Xbox2 and the beginning and the end, the port numbers are 3074. The Protocol is both and the IP address must end at 120.

For the third set appliction Xbox3 and the beginning and the end, the port numbers are 53. The Protocol is borh and IP address must end at 120.

For the fourth request put Xbox4 and beginning and end, the port numbers are 80. The Protocol is both and the IP address must end at 120.

Save the settings and once you go back to the installation page, make your size MTU 1364. Save the settings and then go to security and uncheck the anonymous internet requests to filter. Save the settings.

Go to the administration tab, and then make sure that UPnP is enabled. If it is not, turn it on and save the settings.

Tour of your router and the modem. Wait a minute and plug the modem first. Once it starts up plug in the router and your NAT must be open for xbox live.

  • Need help for WRT160N and Vista

You don't know if there is still a problem, but that's.

I have Time Warner cable internet and a router WRT160N connected to my desktop on the 2nd floor, all right, download speed is great, near 740 kb/s most of the time.

I have a laptop running Vista about 75' away and on the 1st floor. The signal strength is very good, most of the time bars 4. Problem is that the download speed is around 20 to 35 kb/s most of the time if I download anything on the computer directly connected or not.

This is my wifes computer and she had to take the Vista operating system. I still use XP.

My question is... is there some switch or command I have to on Vista to achieve best download speed. Or should I say forget the wireless and ethernet cable to the laptop.

    Thank you... Bob

You can make this change on your wireless router, this will solve your problem and you will get the speed good download on your wireless laptop.

Open an Internet Explorer browser page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 leave name empty username & password for admin to use lower-case... or the wireless settings, follow these steps: -.
Click on the tab - Wireless

-Here, select manual configuration... Wireless network mode must be mixed...

    - And wireless SSID broadcast should be enabled, and then click on save settings...
Please take note of the name of the wireless network (SSID) because it's the network identifier...
    For wireless security: -.
Click the sub-tab under wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the mode of WEP wireless security, encryption must be 64-bit. Let the empty password, do not type in anything...
Under type of WEP Key 1 in all 10 numbers please (numbers only and not letters) and click on save settings...
Please note the 1 WEP key as it comes to the security key for the wireless network.

    Click Advanced Wireless-
settings > change the tag to 75 interval > change the Fragmentation...

  • With the help of WRT160N with Time Capsule

    Hello!

I recently put in place the router on my existing network that uses Apple's Time Capsule. I chose the option 'use this with existing router' vs 'replacement of the existing '.

I have a main tower and laptop. The laptop connects fine to the new network on the WRT160N and find the shared main tower connected to the Time Capsule network. But the Tower cannt see the laptop shared.

I noticed that the IP address ranges are different bewteen the two networks. The Capsule is 10.0.1.X while the WRT is 192.168.1.X. This has nothing to do with why a computer can not see the other?

    Thank you!

  • WRT160N urgent help

I have a speedtouch ST516 and a WRT160N router (on the back of the modem, he said WRT160N, I guess that's the v1). While I have this scenario a year ago I once again because I have reset the configurations.

    I have the following scenarios:

1.I can connect to the ip address of the modem without the router linksys

2.i can connect to the ip of the router with the router and the modem connected.

3.I remember having DHCP disabled last year, because the ST516 speedtouch can also assign IP addresses and ports.

4.I use PPPoE on my modem.

Basically I want the router must be disabled for the assignment of ip addresses (I think this removes the problem of Dual router network. However, I want the router to send signals wireless for my laptop and other devices (I can configure it myself once everything works).

    Other info:

My linksys router uses 192.168.1.1 subnet

    My speedtouch 516 use 192.168.1.254

I believe that they should be presented in the same subnet to do port forwarding?...

I think I'm looking for something in the knowledge base with the name of "Setting up a Linksys router with DSL Internet" with a speedtouch516 or a double router

You said that the speed you're paying for "up to 6 Mbps (megabits per second)", but you get 250 Kbps to 300 Kbps (300 kilobytes per second = approximately 3000 kilobits per second = about 3 Mbit/s).  300 kb/s = approximately 3000 Kbps, because although there are 8 bits in a byte, the 300 kb/s is a download speed of data, and the 3000 Kbps is the speed of the line needed to download that amount of data.  This 10-bit transmission, per byte of data received, occurs because of the protocol above, occasional transmissions, etc.   So it seems that your network is working properly, but your ISP provides only half the speed that you pay.

This lower speed may be because (1) you live a distance away from the nearest train station from your phone company (this problem is can be corrected by moving) or (2) your telephone company (ISP) set their switches 3 Mbps instead of 6 Mbps of service (it's can be corrected by a phone call to your telephone company more strong emphasis on your part!) or (3) for a reason any your computer a gets bogged down (to solve this problem clean your computer to optimize its speed).

To find out if your computer is performed by (3) above, test your modem with a known fast computer.

Please also indicate the serial number and model of the computer you are using.

    *************************************

Oops.  I see that I make a mistake in my last post.   When I said:

"If your P2P software (utorrent) requires that you transfer a port on your computer, then you need to give your computer a static LAN IP address."   Note that any fixed LAN IP address must be outside your range of DHCP server, and it may not end in 0, 1, or 254. »

This information applies to Linksys routers.  Because your network is controlled by your ST516 router, I don't know if this info even applies to you.  So you should not give your computer a static LAN IP address, and you should not put this address outside your range of DHCP server.  Note that some routers are exactly the opposite of Linksys, which is with some routers, you must put the fixed LAN IP addresses within the range of the DHCP server.

  • WRT160N + Intel 5100AGN Questions, help please!

Hi all! I'm a happy user of WRT160N V.2 for several days. I've updated the firmware to 2.0.2.I have laptop with wifi Intel 5100AGN built into the adapter. My internet connection is 100 Mbps, by using DHCP, but I have the static IP chosen on the router configuration, Net provider said its best with them (he told me that because of the thought IM client with * beep * y netgear router etc.). I chose for the wifi encryption WPA Personal.Thats my little information may prove necessary resolve my issues.

Therefore, the router works perfectly, but I don't understand why my wifi 54 Mbps? First day where I set it up, my connection was moving in all 65-72mbps. I don't know what happened, but now its 54 Mbps (im in about 3 meters from the router, signal strenght 100%). I tried several options that I found in the menu router without results. First I tried to change the Capture of N (wlanadv.transrate) rate of Transmission of Auto - 15 - 144mbps. My laptop connected successfully to the router, but still at 54 Mbps. In the menu of basic wireless settings I choose mode manual network and changed its joint Wireless-n only. With this changed option I could not log in again. Changed desktop pc t mixed. I'll be happy to understand what I'm doing wrong... Thank you in advance!

Oh! You have WRt160N, settings 5 GHz is not for you, don't go with 5 GHz settings...

As you have WRT160N v2 router there a lot of problems with the Build11 2.0.02 firmware, you should downgrade of firmware to Version 2.0.02 Build 08 v2Firmware WRT160N, see the link here

  • Need help on the parameters v1 WRT160N

Recently upgraded to the higher speed package from comcast, but haven't seen any increase in speed for wireless connections.

Firm ware upgrade and then downloaded the user manual to go with the default wireless settings.  And it ran very slow.  Paid $30 for a Lynksis tech support session and my wireless connections is getting worse.

When I run the speed test (speedtest.net) through the PC connected via ethernet cable to the Linksys router I get 28 Mbps download, 35 Mbps upload... it's cool.

All the machines and wireless phones, barely running.

Windows 7 PC - shows 130 Mbit/s connection to the router, but it extends between. - 3.5 Mbps down load (Yes they are the decimal points). 6 Mbps to the top

High MacDesk (have no idea of his Apple connection speed and they don't want you know).87 Mbps download, upload 6.45.

    MacBook - download 1.2, 6.46 upload.

iPhone 4S barely operate the wireless turned off and run the data on the AT & T network to maintain peace in the family.

Current settings are in the owner's Manual:

    Wireless Configuration: manual

    Network mode: mixed

    Radio band: Auto

    Scale channel: Auto

    Standard channel: Auto

    SSID Braodcast: enabled

    Wireless security: WPA2 Personal

    TKIP or AES encryption type

Any thoughts would be appreciated, because I'm barely on the internet at home with this router...

    So here's the fix:

Go buy Apple Airport Extreme and the Lynksis of junk.

Set up took about 2 minutes and like products apple does not have many settings to trashing holder / or about with.

Download all devices wireless in the 15-18 Mbps.  We could get better in charge of speeds, but all three computers family are now on the internet and family is Happy!

    IPhones are really happy too.

Sorry, products cisco should be easy to use.
