Hitachi sister 7K 3000 on areca 1880ix-16 / 4GB

I currently have final discussions with my Integrator on which disks to use with the Areca. My first choice of readers was the sister 7K 3000 1.5 TB drives. But my system integrator does not to saying me to stay with approved records. Company records preference! Unfortunately, most of the records in the list are outdated. Granted, Areca cannot test all the readers, and I assume wrongly categories drive could be implicitly approved. Like all WD RE4 drives, or all Seagate Constellation ESdrives or all the Ultrastars, etc. But it doesn't seem to be the case according to the list. The Ultrastar 7K 2000 2 TB drive is there at $220, and the CT of Ultrastar 7 K 3000 3 $350. At those prices, it can get quite expensive with the installation of 10 by car. This is why the sister 7 K 3000 1.5 TB look like a bargain at $65. It is less cost prohibitive to get 10 of them. But I want to assure the readers that I receive, play nice with Areca card and can handle stress. Someone has actually tested on the 1880 series cards?

If I am to spend above $120 per car for enterprise class disks, I fear that a few readers RE4 and Constellation which are on the list, have not passed all the tests. If I go the route of the company, I was thinking maybe get SAS2 6Gbps drives instead of SATA2 3Gbps. The price difference being is not that great. The Seagate Constellation ES 500 GB at $125, the 1 TB from $150, is nice. But I see a notable improvement on SATA2 class readers. I stick to the models of 7200 rpm disks, for the problems of noise and heat.

If I don't want to spend about $200 per disc, and a future expansion in mind, I thought I'd get Constellation.2 500 GB 2.5 "SAS drives to $185. In this way, I could pack more records in a case with 2 x 2.5 "in a 3.5" cages. I could so finally get a full card support with 16 discs, sends a large capacity at even greater speed. Just think about the future here.

But of course, I'd rather spend less for a reliable drive.

Too bad, I know that recommend them to you, so I guess you, or know people who have proved the 7 K 3000 series on Areca sister cards?

Frederic,

Number of readers, I don't have a test on my Areca.  My current favorite is a 2.5 inch eight player in this Mobile Supermicro Rack in a profile of two low-profile is really compact.  They also offer a 4-disc format in a single low-profile case. I am lucky to have the Seagate ST9146853SS 15 000 RPM 6 Gbps SAS disks, I took a big risk (the only way I could afford eight of these readers) and I bought a used Dell 'tire '.  I also foresaw potential problems and purchased additional disks.  I had a player that did not allow the table to work fully, but by the process of elimination, I could isolate it and replace it.  I am currently exploring other configurations of 2.5 inches because of the compactness with many readers.  I did also set up disks Seagate 7200.12 1 TB of 8 and 12 and found the same problem that was easily fixed with the same process of elimination.  Do this test in RAID 0, because there is no time of installation involved and after that you are satisfied to configure your preferred RAID level.  Later, I discovered that they had several updates firmware for these drives very commercial

Some use Dell computers have a Media Direct button or the Media Direct functionality to load the operating system (Windows Xp was native with these options) and the drivers for the DVD player directly to the contrary having to turn on your computer ' "and have it load it all.  The idea was that if someone just wanted to read a CD or a video, would be less user needs...

That being said, use these special and possibly other computers without the Media Direct "HPA" feature on the hard drive (HDD).  The HPA is the "host protected area", these Dell computers used for Storage Media Direct and function of the DSR (Dell system restore) feature, which also came with the PC.  This allowed the user to restore basically a BONE or a series of programs using a couple of keys corrupt or damaged...

The problem, you've probably come across is that in cloning or copying exactly, your for the new drives of 80 GB or 250 GB HARD drive is that the MBR (master boot record) was also copied, telling the BIOS in your PC the new drive is the same as the old disk, even if in reality, we don't.  You must recover the space unallocated, taken over by the HPA.  This can be done in two ways.  I understand that the series of PC Optiplex are desktop computers, is that correct?  If so, I hope you have room for a second HDD, so you do not have to swap disks.  If you only have one drive Bay, you will need to swap hard drives AFTER you create the utility CD.

Download the utility 'CD IMAGE' on the website HGST (Hitachi) to the title of the series 'Feature Tools' programs.  This is a free HARD disk utility which is designed for checking and restoring some Hitachi / HGST drives, but works on many others.  Once you have downloaded this file, burn it to a CD, which will create a bootable for use version.  Install the HARD drive you want to 'fix' in your PC and then boot from the CD.  Follow the prompts and (if your HARD drive is detected, and options to check the disk or repair it appear, you're in luck), click on "restore ability."  This should remove the LPD of the reader and make the unused available as unallocated space.  Once you have done this, leave the program and turn OFF your PC.  If you only have one drive Bay, re-install the main on your computer HARD drive and boot normally.  Install your second 'repaired' HARD drive in an external case ATA.  If you drive, just two bays normally start on the main drive.  Right-click on the "My Computer" or "Computer" desktop icon and select 'Manage' the traction in the menu dropdown.  When the new window appears, select 'Disk management' under the heading 'storage '.  A pictogram of your readers will appear.  Reader of '0' or your 'C:' will show on the top, another 'new' on the bottom drive.  The total size of the drive should show.  You will have a 42 GB partition which is what this drive was used when you originally copied on it, and then you should see the space as "Unallocated."  You may need to format this space.  Try to create a "Primary" partition right click on unallocated space and choosing the options shown.  If this does not work, get in shape this area.  Then create a new primary partition.  When this is done, if the player does not a drive letter (name) that are associated with, assign one.  According to the number of readers and devices you have connected to your PC, this may appear as "New E: drive" or "F:", etc.  Once you have created the new primary partition and assigned a drive letter name on your HARD drive, use a partition management tool to merge the partitions, a primary NTFS partition.  This should hopefully solve your problem.

When you are done and want to use the (s) restored as the destination, use a program such as Norton Ghost (15.0 is the current version and is compatible with Win Xp) "Image" of your player; Do NOT CLONE it, or you will again copy the MBR and HPA for the destination drive.  Good luck - made - know us how you did it.

  • With the 7 k 3000, with the AR4

Well, I got bad news today. It's confirmed! I can't get the Hitachi 7 k 3000 readers I wanted. It was the last thing to complete my order. I watched the readers (always available) supported for the Areca 1880ix-16 and looked at the Seagate Constellation drives and disks Western Digital RE4. Given that the ability is not as important to the amount of training for speed, I ended up choosing the model WD RE4 500 GB 46 MB cache of. I needed to keep costs about the same price as the Hitachi 1.5 TB. Of course, I'll have 3 times less space... but then... I have 12 disks!  So not a real issue in any case for the space.

Someone with an Areca RE4? How is reliability and performance?

Yes, I have a 1880ix-12 Areca, get into a tower of 8 bays with 7x2TB drives WD RE4 (WD2003FYYS) with 1 x relief in a game of 12 to RAID3. I love them, and I get supported 700 MB/sec read, 750 MB/sec in writing medium in this series. You meet twelve discs in a game will be much faster than that. Post your results when you get set up... I'd be interested to see how 12 discs!

EVGA video card is a good choice, but in fact, if the rumors are correct, the Kepler 6xx series will be announced soon. However, the accouncing and have them in stock at an outlet local are two different things, not to mention the high price right after the introduction.

Alternative mobo ASUS could be the ASUS P9X79 WS, who has embedded IEEE.

Check carefully that the Ripjaw X works on this mobo. IIRC for the 79 X series platform Ripjaw Z are the recommended range.

Make sure that you put a fixed pagefile (min = max) of about 16 GB or even 32 GB in disk Hitachi slightly before you use it for something else to make sure the file is the first file on the disk and delete the pagefile from C: drive.

To avoid too much written that OCZ SSD, make sure that you give to your C: by default file locations and an another drive location. This can apply to My Documents, my music, Cookies, Internet Cache, download, Internet History, Temp, Application Data, Common Application Data, etc.

For the rest, it seems OK to me.

  • FCP to Premiere

    Hello

Although I have been using FCP professionally for more than seven years, I used initially first 4, 5 and 6 when I migrated from Beta SP band-to-band. The only thing that really bothers me on the first at that time was not necessarily that it crashed about 3 times a day, but when he crashed it corrupted my project file where I never had to make copies.

Now I'm not saying FCP will never block, it very rarely does, but when he does he never, ever corrupted a file of project - I simply lost despite all of the work I've done since I last saved.

So my question is, now that I have (in the next years, at least) to abandon the FCP, I am interested in the CS5.5 first on the Mac as a replacement and my initial experience of it is very good. I have not yet dared to cut a paid project on it however because I fear that it will eventually crash and damage my project file as in the good old days.

Obviously, I can save copies every minute, but I was wondering if the first CS5.5 overcame this flaw (at least in my experience) of bribery when crashing?

I accept it will sometimes crash, but I want to lose only the work since I last saved or recorded it automatically instead of the project file as a whole.

    Any comment is appreciated.

I have a Mac Pro 2009 (Nehalem) 3.33 GHz Quad, 16 GB RAM, ATI5870, LG burner Blu - ray 10 x, a $ 50 eSATA card and one card RAID Areca 1880ix-12 hooked to a tower without TR8X digital 8 bays full of Western Digital RE4 2 TB drives. (I just added the RAID Tower recently.)

I edited a feature film that was shot on the media MXF P2, images of 1080/24 p, 104 minutes length of the final film. For the most part, has been done on Adobe Production Premium CS3. The final product to single-layer BD - R burning.

I edited four corporate videos paid for Dell, Inc. using the Prod. Premium CS5, shot on the Canon 5 d MkII, Canon 7 d, Nikon D7000, GoProHD and Canon XH - A1 sequences 1080 p all. Finished products burned to BD - R, DVD and export to YouTube and other formats like mpg, mov and mp4.

I'm just starting another edition of paid feature film, shot on Canon 5 d MkII.

So far, the only problems I had were of disk space, that is why the new RAID. (Now, I have 10 TB of usable on RAID3 space and a RAID0 internal volume scratch 3 TB using 3x1TB Hitachi/Apple readers, as well as several unique backup disks.) I had a problem trying to export the 104 minute of Blu - ray movie using H.264 first, but I eventually changed export MPEG - 2 Blu - ray and got both faster quality encode speed, and I thought it was because I tried to use too high a bitrate H.264 format.

Other that that, I had no problem. I found that my 5870 card works better than the GTX 285 / CUDA card for me, because at least half of my work is in After Effects, and the CUDA is worse than the 5870 here. I do not use too many effects in the first of these days, so the GTX285 just sits in a box.

I use first since 4.2, all variants of Pro, only to skip CS4. I was PC up to CS3, and I'm now Mac only on CS5. I had some crash issues with my PC using the CS and CS2, but I attribute that to the fact that I was on a single core Pentium 4 with only 2 GB (or was it 4?) of the RAM in 2007 or another. (It was also a maxed-out Dell, huh.) In all cases, the only breaks down on the Mac system were encodes failures during this test H - 264 Blu - ray. Never a crash of the OS and never an accident that caused me to lose any work. That says a lot for me. This system is my only source of income, and if she doesn't, I'd be in big trouble.

I know a lot of people with the same rate of success of Adobe first/AE on PC as well, and they change you 1080 p and RED for live images. I have every confidence in the following Adobe video today, and I don't say this from personal experience. I also bought some FCP X to try this possibility, but so far, I don't like it at all. One of my friends uses exclusively, and the last, I heard she's ok with it, so I'll try to dig deeper when I have free time.

    This is my entry.

This particular configuration seems to me good. But if you want your disks to a RAID parity, I suggest that get rid you of the WD blacks. If you used either individually or in RAID0, they are good readers. If you do not go down the road of RAID, I suggest the Hitachi 7 K 3000 series and to meet the limit of budget, get version 1.5 to $ 65 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145520). At this price, against Blacks, you could get 4 discs. 4 disks is better 3 then with the body. ;-)

    You have the choice:

    1. Get 4 x 1.5TB Hitachi $65 each (Total $260 for 6 TB), more 3 x 1 TB WD black $90 each (Total $270 for 3 TB). Bonus, the Hitachi would be RAID ready and certified by Areca if you took a map of Areca.
    2. Think long term and get 3 Hitachi swap the power supply to a series of gold Corsair PSU instead. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139015) you can always add a disc later. And you're going to be uder budget. It is easier and cheaper to add a drive later, and then the boat to change the power supply. The importance of a good diet is crittical. Believe me, treat yourself, get the gold! Lovers, well on paper, everything is just a game of power supply and not designed for the rigorous style worstation stability.
  • Advice on which drive hard buy for Raid

I'm going to buy http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136544 8 these hard drives, and I'll use a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816131004 raid controller to implement RAID 3. Western Digital know that these drives are not suitable for the raid, disk only I can find, is a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136797. I was wondering if there is a difference actaul between these two that makes the difference. Also, I was wondering if anyone of you knows another hard drive that would be good for the raid which is less than $ 100.

Your choice of reader and the controller look good for me.

I have used a controller Areca with WD black for the past two years, and as long as you do not have a form any backup other than redundancy RAID 5 on your PC, you should be OK with the readers of 'consumer' (aka black WD, Hitachi sister, etc.) as opposed to "enterprise" drives for RAID (AKA WE RE3 RE4, Hitachi Ultrastar etc) systems.

    Records of the company are:

-usually best parts - possibly some companies choose the best boards with defects less for their dearest readers

-Sometimes a few features that help with vibrations caused by multiple drives in a PC working in tandem

    -almost always a feature that will keep the drive of the company to continue to try to correct any error while reading or writing beyond a certain number of seconds. WD calles this TLER (time limited error recovery);

I've seen individuals suggesting that setting the spin-up time is increased from the default.7 seconds up to 1 second when you use consumer readers to help prevent consumer drives marked as bad. I did this and I have never had a car abandoned in two years.

I have about 50% business (RE3 1 TB WD) and about 50% of consumer records (Black 1 TB 32 MB cache) that are very similar, with the exception of the firmware. In two years, I had a bad drive; No data has been lost, performance just the RAID and even that was pretty subtle. And by the way, it was one of the RE3 drives aren't infected, one of consumer readers! When I started with the WD drives, it was possible to download a software and to set the time on consumer drives TLER and gain many of the benefits models company without having to pay for more expensive readers. Then, a year ago WD changed their line WD Black to defeat this utility (it was a utility WD TLER!) to work with their readers of consumers; Yes, their were some upset users on this one!

  • Should I update my iMac in early 2008 to El Capitan?

My Mac is older, fairly new sentence for El Capitan, but it still works very well (running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5).)  It has a processor Core Duo clocked at 2.66 GHz and 4 GB of RAM.  I upgraded the HD to a 2 to Hitachi sister a few years ago and I have a 2 TB Seagate external hard drive for my time Machine.  I can't afford to upgrade my Mac any more right now, but I wonder if I should upgrade to El Capitan.  I would appreciate any advice someone who has a similar system specs & knowing El Capitan.

With all Mac models, 4 GB of RAM is not really enough for El Capitan. At least not if you use to much more than emails and surf the web.

Our Mac Pro 2008 has 14 GB of RAM installed. El Capitan works smoothly and quickly on it.

This could be the cause?

Presumably, you have support for such large propulsion in the BIOS
or in storage controller firmware. Read here:

Hi - I have a T7500 with a C drive RAID1 array (composed of two drives of 2 TB Hitachi sister) working set in a RAID1 (made with the integrated SATA controller) configuration and I would move intact to another identical T7500.  I tried with another set of disks on another computer Dell Precision game last year and jumped in thinking it was simple from the manual; but, I was wrong, I was forced to break the game and copy one of the disks for a configuration already, Virgin RAID1 set.

Manual is not so clear. Does anyone know how to do this?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Studio XPS 9100 drivers

I plan on finally replace my boot with a Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB SSD drive. I had a great experience with the Samsung 840 250 GB big on my laptop.

I intend to do a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

The most disturbing aspect is always the drivers: I find the Dell Drivers page very confusing because even when I let the Dell software detects my system, it gives me many more options that I think I need, including multiple versions of the same driver.

Is there a centralized place where I can only get the drivers I really need?
