How to properly map NTFS via RDM disk

Hello!

I made the next task facing - I need to map storage P6300 EVA NTFS disk.

The area created for the collector, to EVA host created, presented in a drive to it. After that, map this drive via "Add HDD - RDM-... ». It has been done successfully.

Virtual Server (Windows 2012 x 64) contains this disk, but I can't access to it - file system is RAW, not NTFS. I can not format this drive - there are a lot of DBs, which are in use

If I try to open the drive I get error "no access. The required resource is busy.

So, how can I properly map via RDM NTFS drive?

NTFS (CSV and applications supporting it) is not just a clustered file system and is never designed for simultaneous access of several sources. Uncontrolled as this access is likely to cause data corruption.

The physical SQL host is probably SCSI locks as well, completely blocks access fortunately Windows seems smart enough not to try to force to replace the lock of SCSI.

So yes, unless you stop or remove the LUN from the other host you can not access. A copy separate/snapshot LUN should work fine but.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones how reload BB MAPS

    I have a BB storm II, and after having a software updagrade my maps is no longer the case showing. So I decided to download from blackberry.com/maps.  Once the download is complete for Blackberry maps Installer (and this adds ons under applications, however, there is no icon / app to run the Blackberry maps Installer, and I deleted the maps blackberry app because I thought it would be recharged from the procedure above.) But it was not. SO the question is how can I relaod Blackberry Maps App? or how to run the installer of Blackberry maps and it will reload the MAPS app?

    I am also limited to BES.

    Hi and welcome to the Forums!

    How to reinstall BBMaps is via the desktop software. Launch, attach and use the Application Loader section (it may be called something else, depending on the version of the Desktop software you have). That will present a list of applications available... Put a check mark of selection at the entrance for BBMaps and apply the selection and it will be installed.

    Good luck!

  • Need to create and add RDM disk while calling reconfigVM

    Hello

    Now I create RDM disk help createdisk method and then added the disk of the virtual machine by using the reconfigvm method using vsphere sdk in c# but I need to create and add the disk while calling the reconfigVM only. I searched and found a code as example.

    diskSpec.operation = VirtualDeviceConfigSpecOperation.add;
    diskSpec.fileOperation = VirtualDeviceConfigSpecFileOperation.create;

    ". According to my understanding, vmdk file can create while adding the LUNs as disk RDM using both add and create function, but then I try these i couldn't succeed. If anyone has tried what can you share your code or suggestions please.

    Thank you

    Vijaya

    Vijaya,

    I guess that how you specify the devicename property is invalid. You just need to assign the devicename you recovered in QueryConfigTarget to the devicename of the backup file.  Please refer below snippet for adding disk:

    Request for more information on specific devices that can be used to back up virtual devices

    CTAR ConfigTarget = cb.getConnection () .getService () .queryConfigTarget (envBrow, hostmor);

    VirtualMachineScsiDiskDeviceInfo [] arrSCSILun = (VirtualMachineScsiDiskDeviceInfo []) ctar.getScsiDisk ();

    HostScsiDisk drive;

    If (arrSCSILun! = null) {}

    for (int i = 0; i)< arrscsilun.length;="" i++)="">

    disc = arrSCSILun [i] .getDisk ();

    If (disk == null) {}

    continue;

    }

    else {}

    deviceName = arrSCSILun [i] .getDisk () .getCanonicalName ();

    }

    Add a disk
    VirtualDeviceConfigSpec diskSpec = new VirtualDeviceConfigSpec();

    diskSpec.setFileOperation (VirtualDeviceConfigSpecFileOperation.create);
    diskSpec.setOperation (VirtualDeviceConfigSpecOperation.add);

    VirtualDisk disk = new VirtualDisk();
    VirtualDiskRawDiskMappingVer1BackingInfo diskfileBacking = new VirtualDiskRawDiskMappingVer1BackingInfo();

    diskfileBacking.setFileName("");
    diskfileBacking.setDiskMode ("persist");
    diskfileBacking.setCompatibilityMode ("physicalMode");
       diskfileBacking.setDeviceName (deviceName); It's the devicename you got above
    System.out.println ("DeviceName assigned is" + deviceName);
    disk.setKey (new Integer(-101));
    disk.setControllerKey (new Integer (diskCtlrKey));
    disk.setUnitNumber (new Integer (0));
    disk.setBacking (diskfileBacking);
    disk.setCapacityInKB (1024);

    diskSpec.setDevice (disk);

  • Extra addition RDM disk problem

    I have a Windows Server 2008 (64-bit), created with 2.5 and ESX3.5 vCenter. This server have three disks, a virtual two Raw device Mappings. The RDM disks are 2, 94TB and 7, 16 to.

    After the upgrade to vSphere 4.0 and ESX4.0, the virtual machine still works with two connected RDM disks.

    The problem now is to add an additional drive to RDM. The drive is 3, 15 to. I get an error saying "file server/file.vmdk is larger than the maximum size supported by datastore"datastore"

    Now, my question is how is it possible. Is there a pass from ESX3.5 to ESX4.0 that prevents me from creating the new drive?

    In fact, it was a bug in 3.5 to create and use of RDM disks larger than 2 TB, it was fixed in 4.0.

  • How to know the difference between RDM physical and virtual

    Hello!

    How can I see if a RDM (RAW device) is physical or virtual?

    I can see it in the vmx file or easily elsewhere?

    I have a few servers running both VMFS and RDM disks inside the virtual machine, and when you use ESX Ranger and make an instant backup, they are ignored to be backed up.

    Grateful for a response

    When you change the settings of the virtual machine and choose the RDM - there will be a radio button selected for the RDM mode, it is - it is really obvious. She'll be selected for the physical or virtual.

  • If time machine is incremental how it removes previous versions when the disk is full, without breaking the chain, so do not be able to restore all changes since the first full file

    If time machine is incremental how it removes previous versions when the disk is full, without breaking the chain, so do not be able to restore the file with any changes made since the full backup first file...

    If the TM drive storage is full TM automatically deletes the version the oldest files for the new incremental backups can be made. Thus, in this case you cannot restore the versions that TM deleted because it takes more storage.

  • the hard drive of my computer is purchased full.i a drive.how external hard change outside the primary disk so I can download music easily?

    the hard drive of my computer is purchased full.i a drive.how external hard change outside the primary disk so I can download music easily.right now my external backup just my computer that isn't doing me good

    original title: external hard drives

    You don't want to change your external drive to your main drive.

    You can move your music files on the external drive - or you can move other data on the disk to make room for your music on the internal drive.

    What applications do you use to play music?

    As described in the first link below, you can move your full "My Documents" folder on the external drive.  Alternatively, you can simply move your music files.  If such an arrangement would give you a satisfactory performance, however, depends on how your external drive is connected (for example, USB 1.1, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, eSATA, Firewire, network) and other hardware features of your computer.

    Not all of the following conditions will be applied to you, but some of the tips can be useful.

    There are a number of things you can do to- temporarily - free up disk space.  The only real solution, however, is to get a bigger internal hard drive.   You can move the data to your external drive, but if it's the data that you use frequently, slower access times may annoy you.  Therefore, I do not recommend that you move your My Documents folder in its entirety on the external drive, but you can certainly do this by following the related instructions.

    • You can run Disk Cleanup (start > run > cleanmgr > OK)
    • You can reduce the size allocated for the restoration of the system to about 1 GB (right click on desktop > properties > system restore > settings)
    • You can disable hibernation (if you don't use it) (right click on an empty spot on the desktop > properties > screen saver > power > Hibernate)
    • You can disable the indexing of the drive, which will also speed up your computer a bit (http://lifehacker.com/031440/turn-off-indexing-and-speed-up-windows-xp)
    • You can reduce the size of your Internet browser cache (depending on the browser that you use)
    • You can remove most of the $NTUninstallKBxxxxxx files $ following the directions here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Hotfix_backup.htm (read the warnings in the gray box first)

    " Forty ways to free disk space ."

    But none of these answers you will earn really large amounts of space for very long.  The term solution time is a bigger hard drive.

    In the meantime, download and run JDiskReport, that will show you graphically what files take up more space and seem to so indicate what files you must move it to your external drive.  If you want to move an application, you will need to uninstall and then reinstall it specifying your external drive as the installation location.  You can not simply move the files.

  • I have Windows Vista - I'm a msge saying that the recovery disc (D) is almost full. How can I transer to OS (C) Disk that has plenty of room to the left?

    I have Windows Vista.  I'm a msge saying that the recovery disc (D) is almost full.

    How can I transfer to OS (C) Disk that has plenty of room?    Thank you.

    Hello

    I'm sorry, but you cannot move the D: Partition recovery or its contents; It will not work if you do.

    Your recovery Partition was photographed on your hard drive during the production of your computer by the manufacturer for all of these reasons.

    1. If you want to reinstall Windows from in the case of a failure of the system, based on individuals or the keys at startup.

    F10 or Alt + F10 or F11 are a couple of different manufacturers use sequences.

    You will need to ask your manufacturer for proper sequence.

    2. to make the recovery disks on if your drive hard breaks down, so that you can then reinstall the operating system on a new hard drive.

    Also ask them how to make records.

    Your D: Recovery Drive is should not be used for backups, defragmented, etc..

    There are backups on an external hard drive.

    To resolve the problems that have arisen with the recovery D: Partition, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your computer to remove all that has been added to it.

    See you soon.
