HP EliteBook: encrypted HD

Hello

My father PC is a HP elitebook. Today, he was unable to access his computer because it says "HP Drive Encryption" he no could not connect he doesn't know the password because he didn't fill it anywhere.

You guys not the slightest idea where he can find the password, how to connect?

Thank you very much

Jasper

We cannot help you much without knowing the full brand and model of the computer and the version of Windows you are using.

Some members having this problem let encrypt the drive (took 2 days) and then let him decrypt subsequently (also 2 days) thereafter, there was no drive encryption more at startup!

If you have HP customer Security Manager installed, this can help

-Start safety HP Client Manager

-Go to the Drive Encryption

-Check the box in front of your player. The button down will change the backup to apply key.

-Do not press on apply. If you do, it will start to encrypt your HARD drive (TCDK solution)

-Instead of this, go to settings (the little train in the upper right corner)

-Now press the button "return")<- ),="" which="" will="" return="" you="" to="" the="" drive="" encryption="">

-In this screen, you will see the box in the front of your drive HARD is not checked, but the button still says apply

-Press on apply and restart

Others have simply replaced the hard drive and reinstalled Windows.

  • EliteBook 850 G3: Elitebook 850 G3 & drive HP encryption compatibility

This laptop came installed with HP Client Security installed. I don't know what version. It did not come with installed HP drive encryption. I went to install v8.6.24.53. After the encryption reader and activation, a reboot is required. After the reboot, the WinMagic bootloader prompt shown for a moment, while a black screen appears. Is there a compatibility issue with these laptops and the HP drive encryption? Drive hard 500 GB is Toshiba HDD. Thank you.

It was indeed a one-time problem with this laptop, such as encryption drive installed successfully on other laptops. I don't know the problem material character that I barely delivered the laptop back to HP for repair.

  • EliteBook: can I use a boot cd on a portable computer with disk encryption?

Windows is sprinkled on a laptop with disc encryption. Is there a way I can use a boot cd to access the drive? I want to get some files off it first.

    Ok.

Then the simplest solition would be to remove the hard drive, put in a drive enclosure hard or on a USB to SATA connector.

Now you can plug it into a usb port of another Windows PC or laptop to your business.

Use Windows Explorer to access the disk. When the encryption key is requested, type it in.

A new version 01.10 came out with these fixes:

-Fixes a problem that causes the display to become visually distorted (flicker).
-Fixes an issue where a system running Windows 7 with active hard drive encryption is unable to power (boot) after the BIOS is updated.
-Prevents the BIOS downgraded below the 1.09 version.

  • HP EliteBook 850 G3: The HP EliteBook 850 G3 Bios settings

    Hello

For the moment, we have a problem with our new business laptops (HP EliteBook 850 G3)

We deploy our systems with SCCM 2012 R2 (Client: windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit)

In the task sequence, apply us our image, install driverpacks, change the bios settings and a few general settings.

The deployment of the HP EliteBook 850 3 works fine, but there is a problem with the settings of the bios.

    Our steps are as follows:

1 clear possible Bios passwords (works well)

    2. set the Bios password (works well)

    3. apply the settings of the default Bios that does the following.

-Change the boot order (works well)

    -Activate the TPM (works well)

-some other default settings that all work well

After the settings are applied, the system will restart.

After the restart, there is a quick called Tpm Ppi

A Configuration change has been asked to clear the TPM on the computer

WARNING: Compensation erase the information stored on the TPM. You lose all created keys and access to data encrypted by this key.

    Press F1 = accept

    Press F2 = rejection

In all our other models it looks like parameters the following parameters:

    Activation of embedded security policy
    F1 at startup
    Allow the user to reject
    * No prompt
    TPM activation policy
    F1 at startup
    Allow the user to reject
    * No prompt

    TPM activation policy
    Allow the user to reject
    * No prompt

I can't find this setting in the Bios of HP EliteBook 850 G3.

We do not want the BIOS to Prompt for the F1 after activating the TPM module.

I hope there is a solution to do this, cause our systems don't deployment without pressing the F1 key during the task sequence.

I upgarded Firmware and Chipset Drivers successfully.

    Help, please.

    Hi all

My colleague (thank you Michael G) and I found the solution.

    There are two options:

    1. in the BIOS - Advanced settings / Boot options uncheck the quick start option.

    OR

    2. in the BIOS - Advanced settings / Boot options set a delay of 5 seconds.

We believe that the fastboot option does not give the USB subsystem enough time to initialize.

Perhaps this could be fed to the people who created this system?

  • Drops - 6200AGN - Elitebook 8540p wireless connectivity

I recently got a HP EliteBook 8540p. I encrypted the drive, and it runs a Windows XP Pro SP3 corporate base. The wireless adapter is an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN on the wireless adapter. There were no updates for this computer recently. When you connect first on the system, if I leave the card activated via the touch button wireless, wireless adapter to connect to my home network, or elsewhere, that I am. The connection remains stable ranging from 20 to 30 minutes, then falls. It is therefore more connectivity and looking at the list of available networks, it is no longer a. When you restart the laptop it freezes very probably at the point when he tries to close the network connections. I found that when he is in this condition, before the reboot, and I try to turn on/off the network card; I get adapter did not notice during activation.

The only solution I've found is that of turning off the device during bootup, press, and then allowing the aircraft via the touch button allows once connected. After it is no available networks, but I can now disable successfully unit via network connections, and then activate the device and it connects. I have no earthly idea why this adapter is crazy. There should be no reason for it. Given that I am not the only post something this crazy on one card integrated, I will assume that there is still no response. Someone please respond sooner.

I will never buy another HP product. I suggest to every person in charge of research and to come on this post, throw your HP product in the trash, bad mouth to all your friends and buy a dell. I am.

  • HP ProtectTools encryption recovery disk: USB drive not recognized

I encrypted hard drives of a couple of notebooks HP Elitebook 8560p using HP ProtectTools drive encryption. Saved 4GB USB DRIVE formatted FAT32 discs recovery keys. BIOS and latest available drive encryption versions today.

Today I decided to test the functionality of recovery. So, when the BitLocker Drive login screen appears at the start, I select Recovery. Then I click on browse to find the recovery on the USB drive key. However, the USB is not visible doesn't help not hit 'refresh readers '. I tested it on two laptops. The system simply does not see the USB drive at this stage (works very well under Windows). Any ideas? I lived the most obvious BIOS settings.

The USB key is recognized and everything works fine if the laptop is in its docking station, and the USB is connected to the USB port of the docking station.

  • BitLocker encrypted backups

My apologies if this double job with other positions. I don't think I've seen the answer in the messages, I searched, but with my knowledge of Bitlocker, I might have seen the answer but not understood.

I want to keep a backup online disk image. I have a HP Elitebook active Bitlocker with a TPM.

What I read, Bitlocker uses strong encryption and the only dangers are social engineering or (in some cases) a black hat having physical possession of the laptop. For this reason, I would rather store the version of the backup rather than trusting the security of the online site or the backup program.

I can do it and, if so, how can I go about it?

Can I load a standalone program to backup and restore on CD and save volumes encrypted on an external drive? (In other words, is the drive encrypted in a format readable by a backup program?) Can I restore the backup encrypted on the original disc and use it as I did before, or do I have to use the Bitlocker recovery key at some point? Does make a difference if I restore a new physical drive rather than one that is currently on the computer?

Is there another method that can be better/more/easier but still accomplish the purpose of storing a Bitlocker encrypted backup?

Or is it a bad idea from the start?

    Thank you.

You might be able to do, but obviously you cannot be run simultaneously on the same system that you are backing up. You need to boot from a USB key-CD/DVD and run a backup program. As you said, since the entire disc is encrypted, it will not do any recognizable file for a backup program system deal with.

If I read the website, the freeware "Clonezilla" might be able to do what you want. Because the file system is not recognized, this force the program to create a backup of your drive and your backup will be roughly the same size as your hard drive (whatever it is encrypted does not compress). So if you have the value of a 300 GB of cloud storage (or whatever is the size of your hard drive is), it might work for you. In addition, you may need another drive of the same size or larger than your current drive to contain the backup file until you can start on a normal file system and transfer it to the cloud.

    Clonezilla: <> http://clonezilla.org >

Of course a method much less wieldy would be to create a .zip file of only the files you need to archive and then encrypt this file .zip with GnuPG

GPG (also commercial PGP) existed for a lot longer than BitLocker (at least 20 years), was not known to be compromised and is open-source with many peers (Microsoft cannot claim that). It uses the same algorithms as the BitLocker encryption. I personally trust GPG me BitLocker.

  • Reset password/fingerprint BIOS lockout on EliteBook 8560p

    Hello

Our company bought an EliteBook 8560p year last for a Manager. He died last December and the family gave us his address of company. The EliteBook has protection of fingerprints fingerprint and password on startup (but no disk encryption). We do not have his password on file and I tried to disconnect the battery from the clock for more than 18 hours, but it always happens with this password. Another I tried everything short of zap the chip with an electrical pulse to high energy to go down this password.

Do you know what the next step would be to get this password reset? I am open to the call to HP support technician to reset it or if there is another way, we do not send her away.

Too bad, I could do a BIOS CMOS reset.

  • iPhone restore backup encryption bug in iTunes

First the details of my system:

    El Capitan 10.11.6

    iPhone iOS 6 10.0.2

    iTunes 12.5.1.21

    Steps to reproduce:

1 backup the by using the encrypted password (current running iOS 10) iPhone

    2. once the backup is complete change password encrypted from A to B

    3. restore the iPhone using the backup.

The backup cannot be restored with A password or password B.

I think that most people would say I forgot the password B. You would be a mistake. Password B was stored in my keychain and it wouldn't work. To check that I had the correct password, I downloaded a password free utility cracking. For some reason, these utilities are available for Windows only. I used the utility of tenorshare. Since I was sure I knew the password, I used boxes of prefix and suffix of the utility to verify that the password is correct. The utility shows you only the first 2 characters of your password once he finds her. Since I am sure that I knew the password, I put the first 7 characters of the password in the prefix box password and he assumes that the last of them (which I knew that). Then I put the first 6 characters of the password in the prefix area of password and the last character in the zone suffix and guess the second to the last character (which I knew that too). In both cases, he finds the password, which confirmed that all my characters were correct, but iTunes would not accept. At this point, I was convinced this is an Apple bug, so I googled some more and found this blog https://deciphertools.com/blog/ios-10-backup-password-incorrect/ which confirms:

"If you recently changed your password backup in iTunes, and iTunes is now reports that 'the password was incorrect' when you try to restore this backup, then we may be able to help."

There is a small problem affecting backups iOS 10 - sometimes changing password causes backup the password being rejected (both new and old passwords) when you try to use the backup that you did. »

I was able to solve my problem of password associated with the procedure.

My backup was too important to wait for a solution possible iTunes. Apple should recognize this problem and have a fix as soon as POSSIBLE.
