HP ENVY notebook: Purge display backlight

I bought this laptop and after I opened the box, I went for a video to see the display features. Then I noticed that there are white Spots\Screen bleeding on the edges of the screen. I have returned the laptop to the dealer and he told me it was not a fault or defect and that it would not change. Simply, they do not accept that it is an acceptable condition to replace the laptop. He agrees that this happens to a lot of products and he knew that it was the issue in its many products, but refused to return. I need advice...

Thanks in advance...

I understand that out of the area of the screen, you have white spots on the screen. Thinking it was a defect, you have tried to return to the store, but they would not replace it. The dealer agrees that this happens with many products, but that it was not a reason for replacement. Have you done all Windows updates? You ran the Windows troubleshooting tool?

  • Envy 14: display backlight controls don't work do not Linux

    Hello

I am running Linux on my HP Envy 14 (kernel 2.6.34). The backlight of the screen always remains 100% light even on battery or using a power energy efficient plan, sucking my dry battery without delay.

Obviously, brightness controls do not work. I had a look at/proc/acpi/video had a look at the information of brightness, but only records there are GFX0 and PEGP, none of them contains a subfolder of the LCD. :-(

It seems that the brightness information is stored in:

    • GFX0/DD01/brightness
    • GFX0/DD02/brightness
    • PEGP/DD01/brightness
    • DD02/PEGP/brightness

Writing '50' in these files (for 50% brightness) does not change the brightness. Interesting detail: xbacklight now ISC brightness was 50%, but it's not. Directly with xbacklight brightness adjustment does not work.

I suspect that this is a problem of switchable graphics or BIOS.

    Any suggestions?

Good news, everyone! I compiled the last openSUSE 11.3 kernel 2.6.34 and applied the maintainer of Ubuntu kernel patches and now I had controls backlight works, yay!

    Use this patch: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kamal/i915_brightness/

The patch will be I hope that part of the 2.6.36 kernel.

I currently monitor the use of the power with codebase and disable unnecessary energy consumers. I managed to bring my notebook of > full power 50W now ~ 21W.

Just a quick note (because there were some suspicions): CPU throtteling works on battery, core i5 - 520 M CPU is strangled 2.4 GHz at 1 .2GHz.

Any comparison with the energy consumption of Windows?

  • Want to 17.3 m7-n109dx: purge of backlight screen

This laptop is a best buy Blue Label, configured for sale exclusively through Best Buy.

The price is right for the features included, but we are very disappointed with HP's QA measures. This unit would never have out of the factory.

Right out of the box, the display suffers from serious backlight bleeding in the two lower corners of the display, so obvious that it is obvious for anyone to see.

The screen resolution can be Full HD 1920 x 1080, but Netflix and Amazon HD videos are not as sharp or as bright as the same videos at the same resolution on my 3 year old MacBook Pro 15.4 Retina display ".

Backlit keyboard is turned off or on and is way too bright, with a bright light that leaks on the chiclet keys, clearly visible and distracting.

We want to love this computer.  We are tempted to simply exchange it for another.  In addition to our MacBook, we have a 13 "HP Pavilion dv3510nr purchased in 2009 which has been flawless.  But with our new HP Envy demonstrating such an obvious flaw in the display, we wonder what hidden defects may occur weeks or months from now if we were to buy another.

This purchase represents a perfect example of why we shouldn't make a purchase of this kind from a seller exclusively online. At least, with Best Buy, we have a big-box store where we can get back to it.

Problem solved. I went back the second HP laptop to Best Buy and bought a mixed open-box fully justified all-in-one 21.5-inch iMac with a glorious 1080 p display, keyboard and wireless mouse and not a single question.  Partitioned the hard drive for WIndows 10.  Sorry, HP.

  • HP envy 15-j104sl: display not working not properly

    Hello

I have a Hp Envy 15-j104sl, unfortunately after a fall, the screen does not work properly: sometimes, the left part or the entire display turns white and it is impossible to use it unless I move the screen / hinges in another post.
The glass is not broken, I think the problem may be in the base/hinges lower/some other type of contact works not very well.

I am really disappointed with the online Hp support: I can't find location to send my laptop for repair, and I can't even call help if I have my warranty has expired.

It's a bad display cable or possibly the display panel. It's going to not need a repair by a technician. Where do you live (country)? I'm not clear if you say your warranty is or has not expired?

  • Portege Z30t - how to disable display backlight?

    Hello

I'm just trying to find how to disable the backlight of the display on my new Z30t.
While the process is always running, just to save energy.

Here, I have the FN keys to put the light upwards or downwards, but they won't back down to zero, and there is no key to stop.
I've had 6 laptops so far, and all had a FN key to turn off the display to save power.
So I'm kind of scratching my head, how to do here.

In addition, I would like to reprogram some FN keys as I don't need FN standby and hibernation.
Could not find information on this topic, also.

    Any idea? Help, please!

    Thanks, Tommy

You can use the FN in order to increase and decrease the backlight of the display, but you can not close the screen completely using these function keys.

If you want to turn off the display after a certain time, I recommend you to change the settings in the Windows power options.

Go to the Control Panel-> Power Options
Select a map page of power, on the left click here, choose when turn off the display.
The parameters of change for the plan page, choose the display settings you want to use for this power plan when your laptop is running on battery and when it is plugged.

  • Tecra A4: Display backlight does not work

    Hi all

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I came across a dilemma. My sister laptop screen broke (baby) and it was far from always being in warranty and we had not assured him. So I bought a new screen for it and it mounted fine. When I turn on the laptop, I can hardly do anything on the screen as if the backlight does not work.

I see that it is there, it's just very very dark. I thought this would be a problem with the inverter. So I bought a new one of those too, but alas, it still does not. I can do all things beautiful to display on an external monitor via the VGA port.

    Someone at - it ideas?

    Thank you once again

    Danh

    Hello

I understand you want to save money, but especially help the technician is most recommended as repair by yourself.
In any case, as mentioned, you should be sure that the cable has been connected in the right way.
You must connect the LCD/FL cable to connector LCD/FLand connect the cable to connector HV HT. Place the module LCD, the FL inverter board in the correct position.

    Good luck!

  • HP Envy Notebook m6-1125dx: no problems with the HP Envy m6 at 10 Windows upgrade?

I plan the upgrade of Windows 10 of my HP ENVY m6-1125dx Notebook PC (Intel Core i5 - 3210M CPU) and need to know if this computer will be compatible with Windows 10. Because the HP support Web site now requires a scanning system to report on the drivers available, I have no way of knowing if there are any drivers Windows 10 available (or if they are still required). I thought that maybe I could send an e-mail or chat with HP to see what they have to say, but they want $60 to answer a question!

Please let know us if anyone has experience (good or bad) with 10 of Windows upgrade for th want m6.

    Hüffer,

Just an update... I followed your advice and installed upgrading on-site instead of clean, and everything seems to work fine. The only real glitch, I met was the trackpad settings have been changed which because of many problems, but I could attack while going in the Synaptics Control Panel and reset everything to the way I like them.

Thanks again for the help and I'll review it "resolved".

  • HP ENVY notebook: battery not charging!

    Hello

I recently bought a HP ENVY laptop, and I've updated my windows edition to Windows 10.

2 weeks ago, I noticed that my battery no longer works. It does not load: its says "plugged in, load" but its not charging.

now my battery is empty, (say 3%) and my laptop 'nine', which isn't that 2 months, does not come on unless it is plugged.

You have a solution to my problem?

PS: I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers of the battery from the Device Manager, but nothing happened!

Is it a windows update problem or a battery problem, although my laptop has only 2 months?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Hi there @Rodgee,

Welcome to the HP support community where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from others in the community! I wanted to join you and help! I understand that your battery will not charge on your HP ENVY laptop PC. You mentioned you tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and that you are not sure if this is a problem with the battery of Windows updates.

Please make sure that the AC adapter cable is not plugged into a power strip, surge arrester, or secondary power source. It should be directly into a wall outlet.

There are a couple of documents that you can use to try to understand where is the problem. The first one I would say is the document of the battery is not Notebook Power or hold a Charge . If your laptop battery will not hold a charge, you better follow the instructions in this document step by step to fix the battery and see if it needs to be replaced.

You can also use the document test and calibration of the battery (Windows 8) . This will help you determine the status of your battery.

Have you tried to use the HP Support Assistant to download drivers and updates? Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant, if you need it. Simply download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that needs updating.

This answer doesn't solve your problem or answer your question? If so, please share the good news! Inform others that this answer was helpful by clicking on the button accept as a Solution . You can also show your appreciation by clicking thumbs-up.

If you need assistance, I would be more than happy to continue to help you. Please re-post with the troubleshooting results and include your model number (How can I find my model number or product number?).

    Thank you!

    Have a great day!
