If I understand correctly there is a gray tint/background on the start screen, stop,

Don't worry though, as I have a few steps to the issue and find a solution more.

Please try another monitor to understand if it is a hardware or a software failure,
If the lines do not appear on the other monitor, replace the faceplate on your computer,
If there are lines on the monitor/TV replacing, re-install the graphics card drivers and update of HP's official website: click here

If you do not have another monitor, I recommend you to check if the lines appear on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and press F10 to access BIOS)

This would confirm if it is a hardware failure or a problem with the graphics card drivers, so we can reinstall and update drivers to fix the problem, as mentioned above.

If the problem persists on the BIOS as well, please try with a TV to identify if it's the LCD or the mother/video card failure,

If the problem occurred after an accident (such as a fall on the ground, the liquid spilled on it, etc.) that there could be a hardware failure and in this case, you may need to get the computer repaired by HP (it might have involved load if the PC is not covered by the protection against accidental damage plan)

    Reinstall El Capitan without erasing the drive

    Make sure that you have a current backup before continuing.

    HD recovery start:

    Restart the computer after the ring, press in and hold the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen to appear.

    Repair

    When the recovery menu appears, select disk utility and press the continue button. Disk utility charges and select Macintosh HD entry indented from the list on the left.  Click the first aid tab in the toolbar... If disk utility reports any errors that have been corrected, then re-run first aid until no errors are reported. Wait until the operation is complete, then quit disk utility and return to the main menu. Select restart from the Apple menu.

    Reinstall OS X: Select reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.

    Note : You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest to use Ethernet if possible because it's three times faster than Wi - Fi and more reliable.

    A good friend of mine has a laptop Toshiba Satellite L40, who died recently, and she has not been able to find the warranty documents yet, so I wanted to ask if maybe you could help.

    Basically, what's happened is that one day she was using the computer and not have noticed that it was not plugged in to charge, and before completely lost all power, the computer went into automatic hibernation mode.
    It plugged into the charger, the lights indicated that he was in charge. A few hours later she was trying to turn on, but nothing. the computer itself gives off a sound very low, as if turned on, but the screen is completely blank. She said that it's almost like she couldn't make the thing out of hibernation mode. He continues to give sound and some indicators remain lit until the battery is running out of charge.

    Weird, but have you tried to remove the adaptor AC/DC and battery? Wait one hour and then reconnect the adapter AC/DC and battery. Maybe the laptop restarts.

    If this isn't the case, I think that you need assistance from an authorized service provider. It seems to be a hardware problem and the laptop should be checked by a technician from Notepad to determine the cause of this problem.

  • Tecra M3 - when the motorized screen is completely black

    Hi all

    I really need help with this one!
    I plugged my tour through an S-video to a flat screen and watched a movie and throughout the film, everything worked very well. I stopped regular and normal. Went home and it start and started regularly and I go into my profile and startup programs started running; It froze!

    The mouse icon was surrounded in a cube that was slightly shaded vertical lines. I restarted my computer and as it started showing the logo "XP" when it starts, it displays blue line oriented vertically once more but in the whole of the totality of the screen in groups of 4, all the corners of the screen, then when it is supposed to display your profile to choose to sign in there went blue and showed and error gives me enough time to read and stop.
    When restarting again the screen is completely black and never displays anything.

    I am able to connect via s-video for device that never to see the picture or just a regular screen but the problem now is that it shows these crazy characters across the screen as a sign with the point on top and courses I m able to do the options because I'm familiar with computers , but it does not allow to run regularly.

    I need help please this situation!

    Akuma's right, if you have the same problem on an external monitor s seems to be that the motherboard or the graphics chip is defective and must be replaced.

    In your case I would contact an ASP. They can check your laptop and swap the motherboard.

  • Satellite A500 - screen is completely black

    I got my laptop Satellite A500 for about 4 months and already there is a problem with it.

    After that I had played a few MMO on it for a while so I decided to power out of the night. The next day I started my A500 and there was a completely gray screen and I waited for at least half an hour before holding the power button for 6 seconds just to restart, so when my A500 started to the top of the screen was completely black, but the power LED light was off, but the only lights which were the key commands on the Panel next to the screen and the power light to indicate that it carried out.

    After several tries, the problem had been held, is anyway to fix this?

    Have you plugged an external monitor? I mean without it it's hard to say what causes this problem, but I guess that he associated material s. So if the external proceedings, I think that only the internal display is the cause maybe the FL inverter?

    Please try the alternative below:

    • Go to Start Menu > search and type "Device Manager", and then launch Device Manager
    • Scroll down to the entry of graphics cards in the list of devices and expand the option. Right-click on the display drivers and choose Update driver software from the context menu.
    • In the menu of the interface that ensued, choose Browse my computer for driver software.
    • Then choose the option "Let Me pick from a list of drivers on my computer"
    • In the next screen, select Microsoft Basic graphics card in the list under the section Show compatible hardware . Then click Next to continue.
    • Windows must now install the selected driver and the display driver problem should no longer affect your screen brightness function. You should now be able to increase or decrease the brightness of the display without hassle.

    Try a reboot.

    Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

    Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

    Isolate a problem by using a different user account

    If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal.     I have a new laptop Satellite A105-S361 and seem to have display problems. My screen turns dark gray (with fine gray lines) while I use my laptop. This normally happens after using my laptop for 5 minutes or up to 30 minutes. When I restart my computer, I get the Toshiba start screen, and then it works very well for another five minutes before aging again.
    I tried to connect to an external monitor and it works fine.

    It sounds like a problem with your inverter FL. This is the device that provides lighting for your LCD screen. The fact that you can use an external monitor shows that there is not a problem with your graphics card.

    Fortunateky the FL inverter is not an expensive component and is quite easy to change then I suggest that you only contact your closest partner of Serviec allowed to check your laptop.

    You see something on a screen? The internal screen is probably defective, so you don t see anything.

    If an external monitor stays black I would try to remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter. Then wait at least one or all the night. Now connect the AC adapter and install the battery. Before you turn on the laptop, make sure that the battery is fully charged. Now, try to start your laptop and check what is happening.

    In the worst case it serious hardware malfunction and that means that you would need professional assistance service authorized in your country.

  • HP Pavilion g7 screen became black all in use.

    Help, I was using my HP Pavilion g-7 the other day, while the game and the screen became black without reason appairent.  I have not loaded down recently and I run the anti-virus software.

    We went to the HP support website and went through several diagnotics.  When you restart the laptop the screen on the laptop starts flashing images of my top of counter, but once the machine starts the screen remains empty.  You can see the glow on the edges, but that's all.  I have another connected currently monitor and the system works fine except for that.  We also have the following, hard reset, Test for memory modual problems, test the hard drive.  I also tried to update the video drivers, but the system tells me that the drivers do not work properly.

    It's very frustrating because I'm a student and really need my laptop.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. I read your thread on your HP Pavilion Notebook g7 and get a blank screen or black at startup. Try perform a reset. When you perform a hard reset note remove all USB devices and remove cards memory card reader location. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that doesn't help try to turn on the computer, on which you begin to press F11 repeatedly until the menu opens. You can do a System Restore. System Restore will restore the computer to a time when it worked correctly. If you are able to see the book then connect to a monitor, it is not the graphics card or HARD drive. It could be the LED. The only way to find out is to check with a repair shop. LED can be tested in the DMM and they would have to this device. I'd be happy to help you to give you a number if necessary. How can I find my model number or product number?

    What version of Windows have installed you on the laptop?

    When did you notice this problem? If this is a recent problem, follow the steps in this document to restore your computer to an earlier point.

    Follow these steps in this document to start your computer in Mode safe. Safe mode that will start the Basic programs and drivers required to start Windows. If the screen is back to normal in safe mode, it lets us know that the issue is not the base drivers. We can then pass from the computer in a clean boot State. This will let us know if a software conflict is causing the problem.

    If none of these measures, you can contact Toshiba.

    If you are normally able to logon in safe mode, this means there is a demand of load in normal mode, interfering with the Explorer shell. Safe mode, click Start and run regedit. Expand the branches to reach this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

    Cliquer click the button, then find the userinit string in the right pane. Double click it, replace the contents with:

    C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe,

    be sure to include the comma at the end click ok, close the registry editor and restart the system normally.
