  Hi all

  I seem to have problems when you use Internet Explorer. At irregular intervals (could be long enough could be quite short) Internet explorer seems to hang. On the occasion of the whole notebook locked leading to go through a hard reboot. This seems to occur when you use Internet Explorer (no matter what type of sites). When it crashes but not needing a hard reboot I can still moves me mouse etc. but system generally acts as if it was under heavy load (IE windows / screen in general does not update if I switch Windows, can't close tabs or IE in general). Sometimes after only a few minutes it will rectify itself and sometimes I have to reboot the machine.

  Anyone an idea what can cause this problem. I previously had a one-non-Toshiba notebook and got this laptop as a replacement of insurance due to accidental damage. I never had this problem on my old laptop and never have it on my desktop computer.

  Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  To be honest, I've never heard something like that. With the help of a few different models of laptops from Toshiba (an old and new also) I never noticed any problems with IE.

  It will be interesting to know what made it happen using another browser. Try FireFox or Opera.

I have to use ctrl alt delete to unlock items and then there are moments that just the start menu is locked and the desktop icons can be used.   When Microsoft Update did an automatic update a few days ago, both HP Advisor and Internet Exporer work more and both give me the message that "Internet Explore (HP Advisor) has stopped working. I can't use.

  Google Chrome doesn't seem to be affected.

  Should I just try to uninstall HP Advisor? Or do you know another solution? HP Advisor is c. 3.3.9512.3162.

  @AuntiePol , welcome to the forum.

  HP Advisor has been replaced by HP Support Assistant.  You choose the version appropriate for your computer and install it.  I would like to uninstall HP Advisor before starting.  Internet Explorer has given many of us problems.  I will not just use or Edge.  I use Firefox 42 and have had no problems.

  Sometimes you need something like CCleaner to remove the no side program. If not, look under your Program Files directory and see if you can find a link to these programs/toolbars and see if there is an uninstall for them otherwise you will have to make a Chrome uninstall and see if he has hidden the uninstallation of these emissions.   You can check if you have a current installation of IE9 and remove as follows.

  Open the Control Panel window, open Windows Update, click view update history, click on "to remove an update, see installed updates.  Leave the list to fill in.  Scroll down to the Microsoft Windows topic, under the present, if it is already installed, you will find the entry for "Windows Internet Explorer 9" - right click on the entry and choose uninstall.  Once this process is complete, you will need to restart the computer to complete the reversion to IE8.

  You should now be able try the update to IE9 if you wish.
