HP_TOOLS (D)?

Sorry if this post is in the wrong place.

But my computer has a drive d, with all these things inside this sick list below, my computer continuously tries to store the backups in the small space that remains even if I turned off twice now.

I thought it was supposed to be my recovery disk, but when I tried to run the recovery earlier, he said that it is not the files of recovery or some nonsence on this drive so im wondering what all the stuff what it IS?

I could delete it and actually use the backup drive?

Hi @KurruMitsumi

Welcome to the HP Forums! I see you have a few questions about the HP_Tools partition. It is directly where UEFI Diagnostic tools are stored in order to test your computer for hardware failures. I recommend that you do not save anything him or remove anything.

    Hello!

I saw in some of the messages people have asked what is 'HP_Tools' partition, and I realized that it's a software partition "help", so it can be deleted, but it is useful...

I need to create a new partition to a different OS, so I have to remove one of the 4 partitions that does not exist: that I can remove the "Hp_Tools" one, then put it in a new scope (I hope it's called so in English... Sorry, I am Italian) partition?

Burn your Operating system recovery DVDs together and you will not have the content of recovery partition. The recovery DVDs will be the same as the contents of the partition and can be used to start the laptop for all reinstall.

Once you start to change the partitions of hard drive recovery partition function is broken anyway_so you need to burn the DVD before making any changes... little matter that you choose to use for Ubuntu.

  • EliteOne 800: HP_RECOVERY and HP_TOOLS missing partition after re-install-why only on one system?

    Short:

After you have reinstalled Windows Pro 8.1 with the original OS from HP on two EliteOne 800 DVD, I got scores HP_RECOVERY and HP_TOOLS on a PC, but not on the second.

    Long:

So I got two new 800 EliteOne out of the box, as well with blue screen (iastorA.sys). Sad quality question, but nevertheless, I got the 8.1 original DVD Pro with systems. So I reinstalled completely the two systems. Two BIOSES have the same exact parameters, the two systems are actually identical.

First installed very well system. The DVD of 8.1 drivers to install all the drivers, including Intel RST and SSD caching.

I see drive d (HP_RECOVERY) and drive E: (HP_TOOLS). At the time of startup, F11 works. In Windows, diskmanager shows all partitions.

Now to the second system. Installation went smoothly as well, BUT... I don't see the additional partitions. So F11 will obviously not work.

    What happens here?

I also recognized that on the second system, the drivers are not installed properly. Installing the software on the drivers disk HP tells me that everything is installed and I need to reboot, but no. On the next check, drivers were not installed.

    What else can I check?

    DH

After that I got a 3rd system with exactly the same issues, I believe that this is a generic problem with this type of system.

I formatted all drives outside the system. I used the Bootcd (i.e. UBCD) to do the same while the disc was still in the system.  Finally, I was able to successfully install the 3rd system. But I have in vain on the 2nd.

In any case, I put this in the list of the mysteries. I haven't the time more to study.

Overall, I am deeply disappointed with these HP systems.

  • HP_TOOLS (E) is almost full

I get notification that the HP_TOOLS (drive E :) is almost full. When I go to check it out, I realize I have two backups here. I got my dad's computer. Backups say 'Rob - HP' and the other 'Alex-HP. The 'Rob - HP", a last change in 2012, and mine was in September. If I don't need my father, "Rob - HP", could I just delete it and keep mine? Anything on the computer mess up because of this?

Yes, you can delete the folder. You should not store your backup in the tools partition. Consult the following links depending on the operating system you are using for more information and next steps.

  • Partition HP_TOOLS after update from HP System Diagnostics (UEFI)?

    Hello

I bought a Compaq HP 6730 s about 2 and one and a half years. Last time I installed Windows was in 2009, when I switched to Win7 Pro x 64. I usually keep my system up to date so I decided to use HP Softpaq Download Manager to see what is new because I have not done in a year about. By updating HP System Diagnostics (UEFI) I noticed the installer to begin creating a new partition using DISKPART. It has 2 GB of E:\ and created a new partition HP_TOOLS (H:\).  First of all, was it really necessary given that I had only 3.5 GB of free space on E:\? In addition, the old version of HP System Diagnostics (UEFI) has not used a separate partition. Secondly: is it really necessary to keep or is the only partition something temporary created to facilitate the update process (although this makes no sense to me), meanning can I simply delete and merge into E:\.

Third: in the case where HP_TOOLS is not delete recomanded, at least hide by using the local Group Policy Editor?

    Thank you!

The latest version of the installer of HP System Diagnostics (UEFI) gives an option for installation on drive hard or on a USB flash drive according to your needs. I personally recommend not not to delete the partition HP_TOOLS as its useful during the process of updating the BIOS in case if you want to do a restore etc.

HP_TOOLS partition is also useful in F2 (the System Diagnostics) market in the case of any emergency if necessary.

I have a complete clone of the drive C on the SSD. I don't have the HP_TOOLS partition and the hidden partition on the SSD recoverty.

Do I need? How can I get them on the SSD?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Nope. If it were, it would not work without them. Check and see if you can get into diagnostics UEFI tapping F2 you power up. I would check that. No need to run the computer, but you never miss it until you need it if you have a possible hardware problem. There is a program downloaded UEFI, you can install if necessary. There is no download Windows 10 but UEFI 8.1 Windows should work:

    I have a hp elitebook 8740w
I changed my old hd with an ssd.

How can I keep the partition with HP_TOOLS?

    I've already tried
I used the software SSD for migration - perfect copy, the operating system works, copy partition HP TOOLS, but does not start with the f11
I used "migrated easy" - perfect, the operating system works, copy the partition HP TOOLS, but does not start with f11
I use the shell "Macrium Reflect" - perfect copy, the operating system works, copy the partition HP TOOLS, but does not start with f11.

is there a way to clone the partition HP TOOLS and make it work with f11 at startup?

If I use windows DVD to intall Os directly on the new ssd hd, download hp sowtware? (es. assistant hp?)

Perfect, now you can simply install the ssd and run drives. The optical drive in the BIOS as first boot and reboot, it will start the recovery without F11 etc...

Yes, I actually prefer a clean install of Windows instead of using the recovery discs. This means a new pure system and I can not install anything (from HP or elsewhere), I want because applications such as HP Support Assistant do more harm than good. However, I always use the HP Wireless Assistant. Make sure you have saved all the necessary drivers (it is in a folder called SWSETUP) or at least you know which device is real and download the drivers later the site of home of HP laptop.

  • Is it safe to remove HP_TOOLS and RECOVERY

I don't want to show them as they only add to my chaos of partitions. If I disassemble hp_tools, my bios will always be able to recover if it crashes? And what about recovery.

By removing, I mean remove the drive letter assigned to them

    Hello

It is up to you, BUT please do not touch to the recovery partition, it's your last resource to get your machine. BIOS cannot do this work.

    Hope it makes sense.

  • 'HP_Tools' to delete and recreate it as a logical partition

Hello! I have to do some operations on the hard disk partitions. Now, I have 4 primary partitions: System, the partition with Win7, recovery and HP_Tools. I need an another primary partition, and I don't want to remove the HP_Tools! That's my idea:

    1. create an image of 'system' of the operating system on DVD and remove recovery;

    2. create a HP_Tools image and delete it.

    3. create an extended partition. Create a logical partition and then restore HP_Tools inside.

Thus, HP_Tools will keep its functions? Or it may not work correctly as a logical partition?

    Thank you

    Davide

Yes, you can create the recovery kit, and then remove the recovery Partition. Here is the link that has the steps to create and then how to use them in the future:

You can remove the HP tools partition and create it on a flash drive or USB key. Here is the link that will help you download the utility that will help you recreate HP tools partition on the disk on the flash drive or hard:

  • HP_tools necessary partition?

I have a HP Pavilion DV6, I bought about 1.5 years ago.  I had to replace the hard drive because the original began to send me drive SMART imminent failure errors when I started.  The operating system had obtained if slow to start up, so I had to replace the hard drive.  I got my system easily because I also run a Windows Home Server 2011 host who made daily backups of all our customer home computers.  I highly recommend WHS2011 for this reason, it ends up being the best $ 50 of software and the use of an old desktop pc which has saved my bacon... woot!  The original drive still works and I now put it in a box USB portable/external for use until he decides to die all the time.

There are 2 things that have changed since I got my system:

    (1) I had neglected to select the HP_tools partition when you configure backups of the server for the original system drive so that the score was restored when I got my laptop.  Are the necessary HP_tools and if so, how can I recover this partiton of the old drive and put it on the new drive?  Currently I have the OS partition and the HP_recovery partition restored on the new hard drive.

    (2) key on the left side of the keyboard (it looks like a box) which allows to open HP Mediasmart is no longer made anything.  All other keys seem to work as they did before the resumption.  How to restore this key to its ' original function, or I can on it to open itunes or Skype remap?

You can install UEFIHP_Tools.  You can also copy and run this set of diagnostics from a USB - it's good to know for future reference in case things really happen on the side one day.

The Mediasmart tools requires the QuickLaunch software installed to re-engage this button.

    Two ways to do this...

    • Go to your HP to the computer for your computer website and search for the download and install from there.  This is your best option.

    OR

  • HP_TOOLS deleted partition

I recently bought a HP Probook 450 G0 and it came with SuSe Linux Enterprise 11. When I moved to Windows 7 I deleted all scores except HP_RECOVERY.  I am able to recover all the files in the HP_TOOLS Partition and I read that I need to copy in HP_RECOVERY.  I only had like 250-300 MB of free space of 4 GB in HP_RECOVERY and this is not enogh to store all files in HP_TOOLS. I'm also not able to extend the size of it in disk management. What should I do?

Download the UEFI since your Support page. It will create the HP_Tools partition:

  • Which is exactly the HP_TOOLS partition? Do I need?

Hi, I bought 21/08/2012 , the HP Pavilion dv6-6c01ev Notebook (laptop),

and the hard drive has a partiton with name: HP_TOOLS (e :)) )

Inside in this partition, it has 3 elements:

1 folder with the name "Hewlett-Packard",

1 .dat file with the name 'HP_WSD.dat,'

1 text file with the name 'HPSF_Rep', (inside there that one day, the next day I bought - 22/08/2012)

In the folder "Hewlett-Packard", it's another 4 files:

1 folder named "BIOS" => inside that he has another 3 files: current - news - previous

1 folder named 'BIOSUpdate' => inside there different files...

1 folder named iside "QuickWeb" => there and files and folders...

1 folder named 'SystemDiags' => inside inside, it has various files

So I would you please explain to me, if you can answer me, because I'm confused

    1) where is useful this partition ? and all these folders and files...

    2) I need this partition? If I delete this partition, will I have problems in the future?

    3) is so important that partition? (as the recovery partition)

    Thank you for your help...

And also, I just noticed that the Inthie partition file system is FAT32 and not NTFS...

The partition is used for some things

1 stores advanced (advanced hardware diagnostics) UEFI bios tools.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01443317#N1218

2 is also used during an update of the bios to store the update of the bios and the bios saved which will be replaced, it is crucial to have if for some reason, the bios update fails and the laptop doesn't start, you can restore the backed up old bios, without this partition being present during the bios update You cannot recover and you will have a useless PC. This partition HP_TOOLS also allows the bios to date outside of Windows, which is much safer.

    Hello

Files in the HP_TOOLS partition allow a greater number of options of diagnosis in the f2 menu at startup and the possibility for the system Flash bios outside the Windows environment (which is generally safer).

You can recreate the necessary files by downloading and installing follows him utility - when the option appears, choose to create files on the hard drive.
