  Hi there - first post here, so please be nice :-).

  We are just trying to place an ESX4.1 own deployment in our environment (no previous installation of VMWare) to our main office, using Dell M610 and blades blades M600 to what would become our DR - two sites site hosting VMS on Equallogic iSCSI SAN disks.

  I configured 4 of our blade M610 with ESX 4.1 successfully and they work very well.  These blades have double NIC onboard, and after the initial installation of ESX, I could go to the virtual switch and add in the second NIC like vmnic1 (because one had already been detected during installation).  This fine workd for 4 guests on the M610 blades.  However, I came today to make my first installation on one of the old M600 blades and I encountered a problem.

  Installation went without any problems and I was able to add the host in my vCenter.  I can change all the settings without problem (created the Port of VMKernal for my connection to SAN iSCSI etc, but as soon as I try to add in the second NETWORK card, he paused for a while, and then I get the following error message:)

  If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it that I don't want to proceed down to the line with our Installer if theres an underlying issue and I need to redo everything.

  I'm working on trying to add to install a second NIC physical to the vswitch which is installed by default when ESXi. I use the code below, but when I run it, it disconnects in fact the main physical network card and of course, I then lose connection.   Check the response of jmattson to Re: operating system of the virtual machine attempted to activate the adapter Ethernet0 promiscuous mode. This is not allowed for security reasons. solves the problem.

• Adding a second NETWORK card on the server HP Proliant ML 350 G5

  I have a new HP Proliant with a guest of Windows 2008.  HP came with two network cards on the MB.  I need double-home this box on both networks, at least for a while, and this server will be the only road between subnets.  It's just a stand-alone installation inset.

  I looked in the settings of the BIOS on the HP and it's a little confusing, but I'm sure that the second network card is active (it lights up when it is plugged).  When I try to add a NETWORK adapter to the configuration of the host, it is as if the second NETWORK card is not present.

  My question is what is the best way to add this second NETWORK adapter and how do I do that?

  I'll need access to the host of the VI Client on both networks - at least for a while.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  If you go to configuration-card network in the vSphere client is the 2nd NETWORK card that there are listed?  If ESXi is able to recognize the NETWORK adapter (or other people that you add) they should appear in this list without any config changes and be ready for use.

  What kind of networks are you fill?   If one is considered not secure you could be better not add a management on this network port and prefer to have access via a VPN VM or a secure hosted VM / dual.

• Configure the 2 network cards in a VM for MPLS LAN and the other for internet

  Dear all,

  I have a HP Server with 2 NIC cards. ESXI 4.0 is installed and 3 VM was created in it. Initially that a NIC card was connected to the path of the LAN MPLS switch and another card NETWORK was not connected to the internet switch port.

  Each VM only had a single NIC in it. So I assigned MPLS IP LAN to ESXI host and VM 3 and everything worked perfectly.

  Now, I wanted to have the internet connection for my 3 VM. So I plugged the 2nd NETWORK card with internet port and added the second NETWORK card to the ESXi using the Vsphere client - & gt; configuration - & gt; Networking option. Now the two nic cards are ponting to the network of the virtual computer.

  I've added 2 network card to all 3 VM and assigned to the internet IP addresses to all of these NICs. order of MPLS and internet work at the same time, I removed the card NIC MPLS entry door and manually routed through route add command. After this MPLS and internet worked well in 1 VM.

  I tried the same thing in 2nd and 3rd VM but it failed. whenever I have add 2nd network card in the virtual machine, the first of this virtual machine network adapter does not work.

  I'm after the right approach? Help, please...

  If I understand correctly your installation, you connected the physical NIC to two different IP networks.  Then you connected these cards in the same switch-v on the server.

  This essentially fills two different networks at the layer level 2 layer 3.

  You want rather than the two networks remain separated inside the host.

  • create a new v-switch on the host

  • move the internet NIC v-switch

  • Move the second NIC on each virtual machine to this switch

  • Make sure that access to internet VM NIC is one with a default gateway on a virtual machine OS

  • remove the default gateway of the NIC MPLS

  • creating persistent static routes to the NIC MPLS for any affected networks it beyond the same subnet as the NIC itself.  Addresses on the same subnet will be automatically accessible. Just roads for those outside this range.

• Lab Manager V3 and a second NETWORK card

  Hello everyone. I have a question I hope you can help me with. In Lab Manager V2.5, we were having a problem with fencing. Our fencing required 5 IPs and our customer wants about 100 fences. As we seek to do not use more than 2 C all classes of IP addresses, we hoped an alternative solution.

  Our current idea is to try to use the second NETWORK card on a separate internal switch. This option would use the internal IP for 4 IP addresses and an external IP address. Although this plan seems feasible in theory, the V2.5 Lab Manager did not work to achieve this end. Thus, we are now experiencing V3. Does anyone know if this plan of attack is feasible? If so, what measures are necessary to achieve this goal? The second NETWORK card will be detected automatically by the Lab Manager, or is there a configuration I do not see any there to achieve?

  LM 3.0 allows to use up to 4 network LM by VM Interfaces.  A Network Interface is the combination of the virtual NETWORK card and a physical interface LM LM 3.0, or virtual network.  Networking has been considerably strengthened LM 2.5 days.  Instead of a comprehensive physical network, you can have several (limit)? Physical networks that map to vSwitches in your vCenter/ESX host environment.  The Act of creating a physical network of LM 3.0 creates a group of ports on the vSwitch that you you mapped physical network LM.  Each physical network can accommodate up to worth (1024) 4 c of static IP addresses.  If you want that your different physical networks LM using different physical network interface cards on the ESX host, map to different vCenter/ESX vSwitches.

  Fencing is also managed a little more dynamically without the limitations in number of closed configs that were in previous versions.  All virtual machines in a fenced config needs to be hosted on the same ESX host however.

  Oh, virtual networks are a separate issue, which allow the installation of a local network visible only to virtual machines in a configuration.

  Hello! I bought specially for ESXi (Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop Adapter, model number 8390MT) a new PCI Intel network card. It is listed as a supported network component. I have pluged it started, the host, went the networking, but I still see only one, the old network card. It would appear there automatically or must something needs to be done in the linux command line? I'm not good with linux, maybe I should just re - install the ESXi?

  Make sure that you add the NIC in the vSwitch. If you just go to the page of networking in the VShpere customer, you won't see the second NIC automatically connected to the vSwitch. Did you do that?

  VMware customers use virtual network adapters if you need for a great, a second deck on the host card, but how to do this depends on the host OS.

  For Linux, just run vmware - config.pl and choose to create a second bridged network adapter, choose the right pair of physics.

  For Windows, run vmnetcfg.exe (as an administrator), disable the automatic bypass and then manually fill the two physical network adapters (for example to create two VMnet adapters * with each mapping to a different physical NIC). You also need to restart the host VMware Agent services and VMware Server Web Access before these virtual cards will be available for use.

• Satellite Pro A40 fell on the wireless network card; Damaged PCMCIA slot

  This morning my Satellite Pro A40 (Celeron 2.6) fell 40 cm. He fell right on the wireless network card that has been inserted. This card is still alive and so is the rest of the laptop, but the PCMCIA location is little damaged. I can insert PC cards almost completely, just the last piece (when the pins are) wrong.

  I removed the cover near the CPU, and there, I could see the inside PCMCIA slot; I could see the main part and the last part where the pins are. That little part as is pushed upward, as you can see in the pictures.

  I think I'd be able to fix myself this PCMCIA slot, but I can't remove it. I removed all the screws on the rear plate, but he is still blocked.

Now, I looked at the list for a 5 Ghz supporting the card. I think that the 802.11A/B/G/N WLAN Intel HMC 572520-001 minicards can operate on 5 Ghz, because I read, that A appears only with maps of 2.4/5 Ghz. I read too, that maps of 2.4 / 5 GHz have 3 antennas, but on this card I only the slots for 2. Is this good? And this card would go into my 4520 s?

  You are right about your statement about the cards being described as A/B/G/N dual-band.

  The best thing to do is look at Chapter 3 of your service manual.

  You can only order one of the cards listed as supported and it MUST have the HP reference on it or it won't work.

  I see only two possibilities for you...

  The 6200 Intel and Broadcom 4322.  Make sure you also get the part # that corresponds to what country you live.

  If your current Broadcom card has integrated Bluetooth, you will lose your Bluetooth capability if you order an integrated HP bluetooth module and probably the cable too.

  None of the dual-band cards have embedded bluetooth.
