Impossible to format partitions

Hello

I have several problems with my MacBook (2015). All data is saved, there is also a time machine backup.

My goal is to have:

  • a very small partition with OS X Yosemite
  • a partition with Windows 10, as large as possible

What I have:

Problems:

  • I can't install Yosemite from scratch, I get the error message that I can not use this volume as a boot volume
  • Hard disk manager, I can't delete the other partitions, said "report POXIS: the process could not be completed." There is no record or file of this kind"(translated from German)

What should I do to get a small partition with Yosemite and a bigger with Windows 10?

That's what I get from diskutil list:

/ dev/disk0

#: NAME SIZE TYPE IDENTIFIER

0: GUID_partition_scheme * GB 251,0 disk0

1: disk0s1 EFI EFI 209.7 MB

2: Apple_HFS MacOS 41.7 GB disk0s2

3: Apple_HFS Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s3

4: Microsoft database 107.7 GB disk0s4

5: Apple_HFS disk0s5 650.0 MB

6: Microsoft data base 1.5 MB disk0s6

7: Microsoft data base 1.5 MB disk0s7

As you can see, it is one with 41.7 GB and one with 107, 7 GB, so there is a lot of missing space.

It's Manu I have 16 GB SanDisk USB key when I insert my USB it showing windows want to format the drive when I clicked it again show an error IMPOSSIBLE to format how I can I solve this problem...?

    Have you tried formatting cmd.

First try this, type Format H:/q cmd (where h is the drive letter of your)

USB stick in your case it may be different). It performs a quick format.

You can also format the key USB by right-clicking Start to go on the computer

Management then disk management , then you can click right on your

    USB key for formatting.

If it doesn't not solve your problem, then try on way:

Right-click on the service Start , and then click the command prompt (Admin).

Now, in cmd type diskpart , and then type list disk you can see the disk

number and size to find you which disk is your USB. If you

don't have not connect another disc Disk 1 then maybe your USB key.

Type select disk 1 then type Clean . After that, type create partition primary

who creates the new partition, and then type select partition 1 to choose who

partition after the category active then format fs = ntfs quick where fs is the

As you can see, the unit supports and recognizes correctly the volume of 2 TB, but breast of ESXi is impossible to format a VMFS beyond 45.26 GB volume.  It seems that we are stuck in a total of 50 GB of space on a volume of 2 TB.  Someone at - it ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

Your volume TB 2.04, VMware is limited to a size of 2 TB - something more volume that wraps to lose the first 2 TB. Then the 40 GB, you can format is 0.04 CT.

Resize/re-partition your device less than 2 TB.

  • Time Machine can't see NAS to format / partitioned in El Capitan

We have two MacBook Pro and 4 car TB WD MyBook attached to our wireless router. This disk is partitioned and used for Time Machine backups. We did not have problems with this configuration, up to yesterday, that we decided to format the disk and repartition it. We did it with my MacBook Pro which is running El Capitan (10.11.3) and the newer disk utility program. I plugged the drive locally on the laptop and he came back and said that through fine form/partitioning layout. However, I moved to the router as a NAS and went to setup Time Machine... Time Machine could not see the player. I could map the drive and write to her through 'connect to server... ". "without any problem. Even tried the thing to "map the drive on the desktop" to make it appear on the list of drives available in Time Machine. Nothing worked! I thought something may had been bad installation, or gone bad, partitioning and started... always the same results. The third time, I decided to use MacBook Pro my wife who still works Yosemite with the old "Disk Utility" program on this subject. I went through and formatted/partitioned it the same as before. However, when I hooked up like the SIN this time and the mapped drive he appeared right on Time Machine just as it should have the first time.

Is there a problem with Time Machine, find readers NAS to format / partitioned in El Capitan? Is there a setting that needs to be changed in the new "Disk Utility" program to make it work? I'm a bit of a loss here...

The router cannot possibly recognize a drive formatted by OS X. It uses an operating system that is totally foreign.

A device third-party network attached storage (NAS) or a router is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup. I know that's not what you want to hear. I know that Time Machine accepts the device as a backup destination. I know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and I also know that it usually seems to work. Except when you are trying to restore and find that you can't.

Apple has published a specification for network devices that works with Time Machine. No third party provider, AFAIK, does meet this specification. They all use the application of Netatalk incomplete, obsolete Apple Filing Protocol.

Apple does not endorse any device third-party network for use with Time Machine. See this support article.

Network backup, use as destination an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or a 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only 802.11ac base stations support time Machine, not older model.

Otherwise, use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to save, although none of them are nowhere near as effective or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.

If you are determined to continue to use the device with Time Machine, your only remedy for any resulting problem is the manufacturer (who will blame Apple, neither you nor anyone else but herself.)

    Hi sptusch,

    1. place your Windows XP installation CD and start to her...
    2. Press any button to start the Windows installation (don't worry... we do not actually use the installer at this point)
    3. wait a few moments for the installation program starts, when you see repair an installation of Windows XP using the Recovery Console, and then press the R key
    4. wait until you see this screen, enter the number of your master installation. (Typically 1 to C:\Windows)
    5. press ENTER.
    6. If you are prompted to do so, enter your administrator password. If you don't have one, leave the field blank and press to enter.
    7. from the command prompt, type: chkdsk/r (note the space between chkdsk and / r)
    Allow it to complete undisturbed.
    8. remove the disc, then restart.

  • Impossible to format my Sandisk Ultra Plus 16 GB MicroSD

Hi, I bought this product about an hour ago from Bestbuy. It was sealed in his case, there is no way, it was a homecoming.

When I insert the SD card with the inside microSD adapter to my computer, it asks to format the drive. Then the Format Windows removable disk appears and says that my card is 30.6 MB... When I click on Start to get in shape, with the default given the options, it returns back that it is impossible to format.

I tried the SD Formatter 4.0 card. He says that it is write protected, even if the switch is not in write protect mode.

I have a MicroSD USB Reader. I tried this way too, and it does not work.

I would like to get assistance.

    I found my problem.
As well my card reader USB MicroSD and SD of the laptop slot could not format/read it. I don't know for what reason. But they were a couple of years.
Today, I bought a new card reader. I could open the drive very well and format.
    Hope this helps some people.

  • Impossible to format a hard drive with XP Pro partition; some files to refuse to allow the deletion.

My original XP Pro OS has been corrupted after a CHKDSK procedure that wiped out the OS files. I finally had to re - install on another partition and now I want to format the C: partition to get rid of what was wrong with her. But the FORMAT has terminated before finishing on three tests. I deleted the 99% of the files, but about 5 or 6 are still saying that the system cannot remove them, and they are preventing the working FORMAT. Why the FORMAT is not just overwrite these files?

If you have reinstalled on another partition, then the boot loader is still on the origonal partition and formatting that partition will make your PC no longer starts

Start over and clean install win properly http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

BTW, a broken chkdsk procedure can indicate that your hard drive has a problem, you may want to visit your site from manufacturers of HD and download / create startup utility check disk for example SeaTools for Seagate drives

  • Impossible to format the unallocated partition

    Hello

I would extend the active partition of my hard drive. The unallocated partition cannot be formatted with the vista disk management tool.

    I have a 750 GB hard drive

    Partition active 80,42 GB

    Unallocated partition Go 618,22

    Someone knows why?

Also, I was wondering if it is normal that the total size of these two partitions is 698,64 GB being the ability of the 750 GB hard drive.

Are there hidden partitions will not appear in windows? If so, is there a tool to view these scores?

  • Satellite U400-112: impossible to format the local drive (damaged MFT?)

    Hello!

I had a pretty serious problem with my HARD drive.
    250 GB HARD drive
C: 116 GB - NTFS - Windows XP (Vista initially)
    D: 1, 5 GB - NTFS - (Vista Recover?..)
E: 117 GB - RAW (was NTFS prior to crash)

Local drive E: MFT have been damaged because of the virus attack (I hope not because of my madness!). It's NTFS, now it's RAW. I got all the necessary data partition with program ZAR, but all my attempts to recover or just the format E: remained unsuccessful.
None of the defective sectors found on the HARD drive. Standard Windows tool to format the disks fails: 'it's impossible to finish the formatting of E:

Before this problem with the E: drive, I had several problems with HARD drive. I have never divided re discs, to Partition Magic from the beginning he identified incorrectly. I tried Partition Magic 7 and 8.
    Link: [error screensaver | http://cs1498.vkontakte.ru/u169802/154397/x_3a82b4fb.jpg]

The problem is that the special programs (I tried "find and Mount") also could not identify partitions to correct the defective MFT. I thought that low-level format can help me, but I heard, that the use of all applications for other producers can probably destroy my HARD drive. Are there only special applications of Toshiba developed for such cases? Or you can advice me something else?

    Thanks for your help!

P.S. These applications did not help me:
Find and Mount (can't find the HARD drive)
Acronis Recovery Expert (does not find the HARD drive)
OnTrack EasyRecovery Professional (does not resolve the error, but help to recovery data)
    HDD Regenerator

Thus you get back all your important data?

I would like to just launch Recovery to restore the HARD drive to its factory condition. If the recovery fails, you can try to delete the partitions with FDISK from a startup MS-DOS disk. Free bootdisks can be found at www.bootdisk.com

FDISK can also repair a Master Boot Record by running this command: FDISK/MBR
But it is not 100% reliable, it could cause more harm than good.

  • Satellite 2450-201: impossible to format SD card 4 GB card

    Hello

IA´m an owner of Satellite 2450-201 and I have a big problem.
I just bought a 4 GB SD memory card and Nice, it adapts to the side slot on my laptop.

This is the first time using the memory card, so a needs-to-format window appears when I try to access.

The window has the right information: 3.78 GB, Fat32,...

I click 'OK' and informs the Windows (XP SP2): impossible to complete format (here is Portuguese, then it is translated into English)

If the correct size is informed, 3.78 GB, why windows can't format it?

My laptop is virus and spyware free (only 23 spots in the running and supervision), I have SP2, Bios (most recent) 1.50, SD my controller drivers is up to date (the last and the only one that was released in 2003).

Also tried third party "Panasonic SDFormatter 2.0". He reports the (physical) unit or the mem SD stick is not compatible with the program. And the same effect occurs: the Sd device lost the nice icon and I need to remove/insert the SD card to see again the same story.

    Help me please, friends.

    Hello

It of very strange that you re possible to see the plugin SD card. Some people suggested that this SD card supports only 256MB, 512 MB cards and more with no MMC support.

I put t know if you have a format utility Toshiba SD card installed on the laptop, but on many notebooks of utility such Tosh is preinstalled and could be used for formatting of the card.

According to some poster in this forum the Portege M400 utility format could handle 2 GB, but not sure about 4 GB SD cards.
If possible, you can try to install this utility on your laptop, but you know you don't have much chance that it works.

I think that in this case only an external SD card reader will help you.

  • Accidentally formatted partition 0 disk 4 BOOTCAMP Windows 8.1

Yesterday I bought Windows 8.1 and began installing Bootcamp. I got through all the steps and got to the page collection of information on the windows OS. I filled everything, product key and all. Then I got to the page of partitions, I chose 0 4 Partition drive. I then clicked format (not realizing really what it was). Once I couldn't install windows. He told me that the reader must be in NTFS format. I did not remove the main MAC OS. I looked at many solutions, but they worked not or that they were too old for my computer. I gave an amount of space to 243.21 to Windows. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated!
