• Partial locking in InDesign CS5.5 object?

  In InDesign CS4, you can select a text box and lock its position. That would prevent reviewers from moving accidentally, but they could always double click inside to change the text.

  When you open this file, CS4 in CS5.5, it seems that in the translation, the layer gets simply locked up as a whole - not only can you move it, but you cannot change it without unlocking the entire layer... what could cause accidental text box movement.

  Does anyone know of a way around this?

  In your preferences, uncheck the option to prevent the selection of objects locked in the general pane.

• InDesign - newbie question - I can't select several objects...

  Shift + click only selects an object at the same time, it turns off when I select the next object...  By dragging the marquee of the editing table always selects the page frame.  Is there a setting somewhere to be changed?

  And where is hidden the Lasso tool?  It work?

• Selection and manipulation of children locked objects

  In CS5, when you have locked the objects within a group or layer, you can still select the whole group/layer at a time.  And with the selected group/layer, any transformation/Cup/etc. will affect everything in the Group/layer, including locked objects.

  But in CS6, it seems that you cannot select entire group/layer with locked objects - the 'circle of selection"in the layers panel will not display the double circle.  And if manipulate you the Group/layer now, only the unlocked objects it contains will be affected; locked objects remain the same.

  How can I revert to behavior of CS5?

  It still works, but you need to select, not their target (which is what you did). You have to click to the right of the target symbol.

  Hi, I have just changed to cs4 to 5.5 and can't seem to select an object, if it is another, even if the top element of a 'none' was complete. I know that I can hold cmd and select "via" objects but in cs4, I didn't need to do it as long as the top item had no fill. This preference can be enabled/disabled through the "selection of object by the path only" checkbox in illustrator, but I can't seem to find it in Indesign. Maybe I'm lazy who want to simply do not press the cmd button but it's just annoying the hell out of me for any clarification would be much appreciated.

  Hey Ant,.

  You use the 'Frame' Rectangle tool or the tool 'Rectangle '? I find that I selected the 'Frame' Rectangle tool, it will always be the selected object, even if it has no fill; using the "Marquee" tool, if it has no fill, you can select the objects below it without going through CMD-click.

  I swear to God that this morning I could SHIFT-click ON various objects to select. Now I can only select one. That's happened? Can someone help me understand this? I want to select several objects (text, images etc) and cannot do it anymore.

  This could be the various scenarios that may cause this problem.

  1. Please make sure no objects are locked. You can unlock a object > unlock all on page.

  2. Please create a new site or a new page and check if Shift + click works for you.

  3. so what happens with the new file and new site also then restart the computer and check if it works.

  If the problem persists then please let me know which operating system you are using.

  I need emergency aid to comlete an upgrade to ebs 12.1.1 to 12.1.3.

  We are to modernize ebs 11i to 12i will live this weekend. We met "ORA-04021: timeout exceeded while waiting to lock object" on patch 9239090 with two workers:

  In adctrl:

  1. run AutoPatch R120 AFUTLGRS.pls failed

  2. run AutoPatch R120 AFUTLOGS.pls failed

  sqlplus s APPS / * @/u02/applfinp/apps/apps_st/appl/admin/OFPROD/out/p001invok.sql

  Connected.

  ERROR on line 1:

  ORA-04021: timeout period exceeded while waiting to lock object

  I did everything imaginable, but can not get pass these 2 workers failed.

  (1) I checked there is no lock blocking on all objects:

  4) the solution on Doc ID 1291064.1 is not the problem:

• How to select several objects on the layers panel in Illustrator CC

  I have a work of guge and I need to select a small group (about 10-100) of objects from 4000 bunk and then group objects ' em/split-to-layers for ease of use (this is an infographic of the human body for medical institute)

  There IS NO way by selecting in the Web because they are overlapping and sometimes not visible at all.

  in CS5 there was a function to select several objects to the icon selection Alt + click - move on the right in the Layers panel.

  Now the mode duplication towers - on when I try to run it.

  Then.

  Ho I select several object without having to click through thousands of them? (I need to drag-select)

  IM totally frustrated.
  

  As long there is no deliberately locked object, you can do the following:

  Drag on the lock column in the layer panel

  Object > unlock all (there is a shortcut for this)

  -> unlocked objects are selected

  I reformat an existing European brochure for the A4 to letter-size. Fine, with one exception.

  I have a problem, select an object (as if it was locked, which it is quite possible). Everything in this document is in a single layer. I am able to select and change all the other elements, native or placed, but I can't seem to get this item to select. I don't see any way to unlock it, but I'm probably missing something. When I hide the layer in the layers palette, everything goes white, then I know it's on that layer.

  I'm on Mac, OS x 10.6.8 IDCS6. The original file has been created using ID too (not sure which version).

  The above should give you the session id

  Then use SYSTEM account to kill the session
  alter system kill session "";

  I often see a warning of the locked object. Is it possible that users who screens and do not close the logoff may leave the locked object? For example, closure of Regional service with a contour open instead of closing the outline, then using file-> exit to Regional service.

  You are right.  I find items left in a locked state caused by several actions.

  (1) EAS closing although an item open/locked

  (2) "timing" EAS outside on a user, even if an object is opened/locked

  (3) automation that locks an object (say a build rule dim), but ends, leaving the locked object.

  To help relieve this

  (1) tell users to 'See' objects instead of "Edit" them if the user does not change.

  2) users learn the importance of good objects immediately close once they are made edition.

  3) users learn the importance of the economy and the closing of work in progress when they switch to another task in the middle of editing the objects...

  Absence of any (other) cause/cure, try the list:

  Sometimes, (some) things may fail or stop working for no apparent reason. When (other) possible reasons/remedies do not work, it is perhaps a kind corruption (temporary or permanent), or even preference settings which disturbs, which can be cured with something on the following list put in place in order to provide a catch-all solution for otherwise intractable cases. It starts with a few easy suggestions and safe) 1 and 2) for cases less serious and goes two ways 3) and 4) to reset the default preferences (easily but irreversibly and more laboriously but more completely and also reversible), then follows a list 5) various other possibilities, and it ends with a complete reinstallation 6). If no other suggestion doesn't work, or if no other suggestion appears, you can start on the list and decide how to go or who can apply.

  The following is a general list of things, try when

  (A) the question is not in a specific file,

  (B) you have a printer installed, connected and turned on if it's a physical printer (you can use Adobe PDF/Acrobat Distiller as a printer by default without the need to have a printer on, of course you will need to specify when you really need print on paper), and

  (C) It is not caused by problems with opening a file from external media (see below).

  You tried/made some of them already; 1 and 2) are easier for temporary strangenesses and 3) and 4) specifically may be corrupted/inconvenient preferences); ((5) is a list in itself and 6) is the last resort.

  If possible / there is, you must record a current work first, of course.

  (1) close Illy and open again.

  (2) restart the computer (you can make up at least 5 times);

  (3) close Illy and press Ctrl + Alt + Shift / Cmd + Option + shift during startup (easy, but irreversible);

  4) move the folder (follow the link with this name) with closed Illy (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you can find the file here:

  5 look through and try the relevant among the other options (click on the link with that name, item 7) is a list of the usual suspects among other applications which can disturb and confuse Illy, point 15) applies to the maybe CS5, CS6 and CC);
