Installation of windows XP on Portege R600

I have a pre-installed XP downgrade the drive, but I really want to install a new windows XP instead.

So, I insert a winXP disk and install.
(a) install directly on startup does not work: it claims to have no hard drive! See here: http://www.problem-solving.be/peter/s1.JPG
b install directly on startup does not work: it starts to install and all of a sudden I get this screen: http://www.problem-solving.be/peter/s2.JPG

At first I thought it lacked my SATA drivers, so I their wake on disk, but in both cases * exactly the same errors appear *. It's always the standard disc factory and just go back to my work windows installation works very well, so it is not damaged. What can I do?

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad to hear the problem is solved. ;)

  • Question about the Installation of Windows XP on Portege 3500 home

I have a second hand Portege 3500 with WXP tablet 2005 Server Pack 2 market version, but without the original disks. However, recently had a virus that did something to Prime the area on the hard disk. I have removed the virus but now get unexpected core dumps memory and system restarts when you try to connect to the internet.

Question: can I go down a level and safely install ordinary WXP software to work around the problem or the acquisition of new version of WXP Tablet and reinstall the software to circumvent the problem of core dump?

Installation of an operating system on this laptop, it's the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. Once start you, you will notice that there is no device boot attached to this pc. To install windows, yourself, the only options are to buy the cdrom drive for this laptop toshiba external or install via a network.

The toshiba cdrom drive is now quite obsolete, more expensive and the external device only that the laptop starts from (I tried with the other external cdroms, DVDs, disks usb keys and hard). It seems extremely difficult to boot from lan unless you already manage it infrastructure of the company. It is possible in theory, but after 3 weeks I still hadn't thought about her.

My solution at the end of the day was to send it to my local toshiba support center and ask them to re - install for me (he happened to have one in stock toshiba cdrom burners). I got the installation cd, so I guess you will need get these images from toshiba as well (or buy another os).

    Good luck!

  • Setup windows XP on Portege 2000, with no external drives

I recently I've been the proud owner of a Portege 2000 that was given to me for free (?) of a member of the family who do not use it.

When I was first, I felt impressed! Its so light and so beautiful.
It came with Windows 2000, which crashed after some time (one day only). So I decided to install windows Xp on it. But the portege has no external media player, which can be accessed via the bios, as I conclude after reading several threads on this forum. After windows 2000 has crashed I knew that the hard drive may have some problems, but I decided that before I I buy new 1.8 "(very expensive) Player, I would try to install a fresh copy of windows XP os. So I bought a 1.8 "adapter IDE hard drive to connect it to my office. This thing works great as I can see the drive and also copy the files on it.

But the problem for me, it of how to install XP on the drive and then plug it into the portege and do work.

I tried to install windows via the desktop PC, and then after removing all the drivers in the Device Manager console, I re - install on the portege. All I get is a gray bar that fills up on a black screen and then more nothing...

I tried to start it in safe mode but after it loads some files it just stuck. I though maybe if I did a different desktop installation there would be no problem, so I installed XP on all the computers availiable from desktop to me (core 2 duo, Opteron and athlon XP-socket A) with the same exact results.

Is there a way to make the toshiba 1.8 "bootable disc through the desktop computer and also include the installation of XP on the same drive of windows files?
What I mean is if its possible to emulate a floppy and access command prompts, while having windows XP on the same hard drive?

If this isn't the case, you have any suggestions on this subject? Any idea will be welcome I've tried to find a way for about a month now...

I read somewhere in this forum that you can install XP via lan, but I don't really know how to do this.

PS It would be possible for anyone to find an installation of windows xp for portege 2000 as a ghost image that I can load into the reader through the Office?

Thank you in advance and please help me...

Hmm, good explanation. I think he'll appreciate this detailed version. :)

  • Portege R600 - Dynadock displaylink installation failure

I tried to install drivers 2.3 for a dynadock USB DVI, for use with a Portege R600.

Whenever I tried, the DisplayLink driver installation fails, which means that the connection with the external monitor does not work.

    A few error messages appear:

"This file has no program associated with it for performing this action...". "- referring to DisplayLinkCore, something--the window is truncated.

    The second message:

    'Impossible to install DisplayLink Core'

The Portege is under XP SP3.

I saw a post [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=145077𣚵] which seemed relevant, but I can't at this point.

I would appreciate any pointers on this.

  • Portege R600 and Windows 7

I installed Windows 7 (custom installation). Subsequently installed the Toshiba Setup program to load all the programs/drivers concerned. I have a problem with the screen, especially in Word 2003. That she will all suddenly, distort so that the words become faded/pointed/double, so that you can not read the display. A second open the document in Word will not be affected. Re-opening and closing the particular document clears the problem. The document is late and is not damaged.

Also found that sometimes when start up or wake up from hibernation, the machine hangs and looks like the fan is working overtime.
Nothing happen so unless I have a power to force down and restart.

Finally, the wheel on my mouse (latest Windows 7 drivers installed) will not work to resize a screen of Word and will not work in the folders pane in Outlook 2003.

    Any thoughts?

    See you soon

Strange! I installed Office 2003 on two laptops Toshiba with Win7 and everything is OK.
Have you noticed some other display under your Portege R600 Win7 problems, for example in Internet Explorer or other applications running?

  • Portege R600 - Windows 7 switch backlight does not

I have a new Portege R600, comes with Windows 7 32 bit and the switch on / off for the backlight does not work.
I installed the new VFR package, until I uninstalled the old. Also the latest version of the Bios.

Use the support Toshiba button and placed in the file backlight.exe, still does not work. If I tap the backlight.exe file manually, it works.
It is not a problem of material, as told in the hard drive of my old R600 with XP Professional and works of button.

    What can I do?
Toshiba support is not able to help, to talk about the new facility, but is the original unchanged.
Maybe in the button holder, I put in an option in the empty file?

    > Switch on / off the backlight does not work.
AFAIK some BIOS versions contains the additional option to enable and disable the lighting.
Please check if the lighting is not disabled in the BIOS.

  • Portege R600 - where can I find the order of installation on Vista x 64?

    Hello

I'll try to find a document that we'll know what order I should install my Portege R600 drivers and applications, there was one but I can't find it anywhere.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards, Richard.

    Hello

There is no special installation instruction details, but if you want to install the 64 bit Vista drivers then I recommend you start with the common as drivers:
    -Chip Set Utility
    -Display driver
    -LAN Driver
    -Driver Lan Wireless
    -Sound Driver
    -Intel Active Management Technology (AMT)
    - and so on...

Please note that the laptop supports the SATA HDD controller and you need to install and include the SATA driver while the Vista Setup program.
The SATA driver is part of the Intel Storage Manager.

  • Portege R600 - do I need for Windows 7?

Hey there. I have a Toshiba Portege R600, my first laptop, and I'm in love.

I'm angry against Vista Business, but also, I get angry to Windows XP. I would like to give a whirl to Windows 7 since I heard good things about her.
I now burn a recovery disk as I type. What else do I need? On the desktop, there is a folder called "Applications and drivers TOSHIBA" so I guess I have to save those on a USB and load them onto Windows 7. What if drivers? There is so much and I don't want too many applications, the cluster disk.

Tips for a first time the laptop computer user?

    > Windows 7 a whirlwind since I heard good things about her.
I've never heard of Windows 7 good things still
I think you forget that Windows 7 is only at the stage of beta or as far as I know already a Release Candidate but it s not a final version. So that means it may have a few problems and the pilot in charge is not as good as on Vista or XP.

However, if you need the Windows 7 drivers you must search on external Web sites for pilots, but sometimes the drivers for Vista also works on Windows 7.
    Check it!

  • Portege R600 - display problem device change Utility

We started to use computers laptop Toshiba Portege R600 series on my place of work. All laptops are home in a Toshiba Slim Port Replicator II. Laptops are all running a version of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 applied (and of course a few customization business).

The problem is with the display on the external monitor. The laptop starts according to the normal and connects to the fine. The Fn + F5 key and so we can switch between the external LCD screen and the laptop monitor. We can also extend the desktop on the external monitor without problem.

The problem occurs when the laptop is not docked since the Replicator. After having similar problems with R500 series laptops, Toshiba following applications have been installed:

    (1) common modules (version 6.06.01)
    (2) controls Toshiba (version 3.31.3800)
    (3) button ON / OFF (version 2.5.1.0_IS115)
    (4) Toshiba utility (version 4.30.18)
    (5) Toshiba screen device change Utility (version 2.5.0.0)
    (6) Toshiba Hotkey utility for display device (version 3.4.5.5)
    (7) Toshiba Mobile extension 3 for XP (version 3.87.00)

We now have the following symptoms:

    (1) detach, the "gear" icon appears and then the error "TOSHIBA Display Device change Utility is not installed correctly. Please install TOSHIBA screen utility unit of change. "
    (2) for the mooring of the laptop again, we get the "home" icon, and then the same error.
    (3) after that, the external monitor does not become active once again, until what you press Fn + F5.

I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling the TOSHIBA screen device change utility. Have tried to remove the Mobile Extensions and install the software, tried a number of different things to make it work. Rebuilt 1 stop working and everything was installed in the order above without success. In fact, noted that during the installation of the TOSHIBA utility screen device Change the Setup screen starts and runs, but the window does not uninstall.

This seems to be a driver problem with those from Toshiba, but I'm not sure. Someone at - it suggestions regarding this? The drivers that I use are on the site of Toshiba Australia (even if they are the same drivers found on the main website of Toshiba). The link below.

    Hello

Unfortunately I m not a R600 owner but in my opinion it shouldn't be a problem with the installation the most common devices should be recognized

But of course you will not be able to install Toshiba special tools and utilities that are designed specifically for the Windows operating system.

  • Portege R600 - 13 X - how to reinstall the operating system on the new HARD drive?

    Hello

I inherited a Portege R600 - 13 X of my colleague, who hit and killed the hard drive. I installed a new hard drive, but you don't have operating system installation diskettes as he said that the computer has not come with any. To make things even more difficult, I believe that the optical drive may not work. My old R500 had a dead optical drive and after I replaced it (he has not yet worked) I was told it is perhaps something to do with the ribbon cable, which piggy back off the coast of the SD card reader, then to the motherboard.

Anyway, is it possible for me to install Win 7 Professional (I have the original windows key) from a USB flash drive? Or y at - it a specific OS recovery/reinstallation disk that I can download Toshiba?

Any advice would be very welcome
    Thank you
    NJ

I have a Portege R600, and he has been a formidable workaholic, although now showing its age with newer software.

I think these machines came with pre-installed Vista and your friend must have created a set of recovery discs when they got off the machine.

Toshiba did release a drive to upgrade when Windows 7 is released which was available to the buyer within the free upgrade period you. You may be able to find a disk, but you will need the Win7 license to go with it.

If not, your only option is likely to be to buy a disk and license. Of course, you can find the specific Toshiba drivers are missing. If you think about it, it's extremely unlikely that you will be able to locate what is essentially a free Windows 7 download install disc.

Without an optical drive, you need to use an external USB drive and the BIOS to boot from that first force.

I hope that you have succeeded.

  • Re: Portege R600 - upgrade to hybrid SSD + Win7

The R600-4201 is _For far_ the best laptop computer I have ever owned or even seen, and I intend to keep it for as long as possible. I just bought a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid hard drive (SSD + magnetic) and Windows 7 Ultimate edition.

To support installation hardware and the operating system switching from XP to W7, I will have redundant (more local cloud) perfect backups of data files to e-mail, data files, passwords, etc.

Can anyone here guide me more access to specific Toshiba updates, drivers, BIOS, etc., should be done? Further guidance or advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!!!

I think that this portable 2-book with the new operating system and hard drive will challenge anything on the market today. With radio offshore and with the Transflective screen, I get more of * WORK SIX HOURS * at the park or at the beach - there just isn't any better than that.

    Hi dude

Thanks for the comments on the Portege R600.
I like this laptop. I wish that I would have enough money to buy this toy, but I have a u400. It of also great computer laptop not too big... the size of the screen is perfect because I travel a lot

  • Portege R600 - detected SD cards but cannot navigate or format

    Hello

I have problem on my Portege R600-10U (Windows 7 Ultimate) with SD card reader. When I put the SD card into the slot it is detected by the system, but I can't the eyebrows he or I can do format.

I did the installation of RICOH_Media_Driver_v2.07.01.00 on the Toshiba support site, but when I check pilot for SD card reader is show a generic driver by default Microsoft.

Also I don't know if it's important, but I can see player sd on the list of devices only when I put the card in the card reader.

I even tried to do a manual installation of the driver by selecting the extracted content of CRAC - 20091103162555.zip (RICOH_Media_Driver_v2.07.01.00 folder), but windows didn't find the INFs appropriate in it.

Me missing something, is there a prerequisite not before installing the card reader driver or card reader perhaps it self does not work properly.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Igor

    > Card he is okay since I use it in my camera
    This could be the problem

I think that you can access this SDHC card if you should first format!
There should be a preinstalled tool called SD memory card format.
Format the SDHC card first, and then try again.

PS: The card reader must manage SD up to 2 GB card and SDHC up to 16 GB cards

I installed Windows 7 (new installation) on Toshiba Portege R600 laptop and the built in 3 G modem does not work.
When I run Toshiba Wireless Manager, he wrote "the Radio is off. To activate, activate Mobile switch. ».

I'm sure that this switch is on, but pass connections wireless using Fn + F8 does not work then maybe it is off but I can't allow it. I have installed all updates of drivers such as: Wireless, Wlan driver manager.
    BT Stack, etc.

    Does anyone have an idea?

    Hello

    Wait a minute;
You want to activate; Modem WiFi or 3G?
Please note that WiFi is not 3G modem.

Don't forget that you have chosen and activated the modem 3G and not the WLan.
