InstallShield Crash when I try to install some Disciples II

Im trying to install a game, Disciples II, which should be compatible with Vista Ultimate 64-bit. When I click on install, the InstallShield immediately blocked, so I click on let microsoft go online and find the problem... then comes the update, which does nothing to help the problem.

Hello MerlynLeger, welcome.

My recommendation would be to go into the content of the CD/DVD via Explorer and run the installer as administrator.

Try this:

1. click on START
2. go in 'computer '.
3. right click on the CD/DVD drive and select "explore".
4. find the setup.exe file, right click and select 'run as administrator '.

If this does not work then I would suggest that updated InstallShield. You can do so via this method. The instructions have images of Windows XP, however, the same concept applies to Windows Vista.

UPDATE INSTALLSHIELD

  1. Determine if the installation is compressed or not compressed.

    1. Launch Windows Explorer by pressing the Windows key + E or select Start > run and enter explorer.
    2. Navigate to the location of the installation files. For example, if the installation is on a CD, go to the CD-ROM drive.

    3. Search for the installation file. Typical names for installation files are setup.exe, update.exe, installer.exe, etc..
    4. Right-click on the Setup file that you are trying to install, and then select Properties.
  2. In the Properties dialog box, click the Version tab.

Examine the file Version field to determine the version number of the InstallShield engine you need. Follow the instructions for your version. If you started the installation in step 1 d, cancel.

If the version number of the file is from 2.0 x or less:

  1. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine from the machine.
  2. Download IkernelUpdate.exe.
  3. Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for your installation.

If the file version number begins with 6:

  1. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine from the machine.
  2. Download IkernelUpdate.exe.
  3. Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for your installation.

If the file version number starts with 7:

Check if there is a file with the .msi extension in the same directory as the installation file.

If so:

  1. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\7 from the machine.
  2. Download ISScript7.zip.
  3. Unzip this file. For more information on decompressing the files, see How to unzip a file in Windows XP? or How to use the WinZip utility in Windows 2000 or earlier versions?.
  4. Double-click the IsScript.msi file. This installs the ISScript engine for the version of the installation.

If not:

  • If the file version is less the 7.01

    1. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\0700 from the machine.
    2. Download InstallShieldEngineUpdate700.exe.
    3. Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for this version of the installation.
  • If the version of the file is greater than or equal to 7.01:
    1. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\0701 from the machine.
    2. Download InstallShieldEngineUpdate701.exe.
    3. Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for this version of the installation.

If the file version number starts with 8:

  1. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\8 from the machine.
  2. Download ISScript8.zip.
  3. Unzip this file. For more information on decompressing the files, see How to unzip a file in Windows XP? or How to use the WinZip utility in Windows 2000 or earlier versions?.
  4. Double-click the IsScript8.msi file. This installs the IsScript engine for this version of the installation.

If the file version number starts with 9:

Check if there is a file with the .msi extension in the same directory as the installation file.

If so:

  1. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\9 from the machine.
  2. Download ISScript9.zip
  3. Unzip this file. For more information on decompressing the files, see How to unzip a file in Windows XP? or How to use the WinZip utility in Windows 2000 or earlier versions?.
  4. Double-click the IsScript.msi file. This installs the IsScript engine for this version of the installation.

If not:

  • If the file version is less the 9.01:

    1. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\09\00 from the machine.
    2. Download InstallShieldEngineUpdate900.exe.
    3. Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for this version of the installation.

As for example. When I tried to install a game, Vindictus... it froze on me and my screen is purple and became unresponsive. I tried this several times, but every time I try and open setup my computer just freezes.

I think (and it must be good) that windows has some compatibility issues, and I can't enjoy the things I want if I have to deal with gel pathetic ups like that. The only way for me to download stuff I want is at least try to downgrade to windows 7, but I try not to do.

      Hi Bluey5,

I saw your post on the installation of Vindictus on your Windows 8.1. The problem is the game due to his age. It was originally designed to run under Windows 2000 and XP. Windows 8 is very different then even Windows 7. I had similar problems with older games myself and keep your computer Windows XP autour for this reason.

I'm using XP w/SP3 installed.  Windows update works fine and I've installed all the updates available; However, when I try to change to Microsoft Update, I hear the blip to allow ActiveX must be installed, but IE is frozen and does not display the bar or shows only a part of it.  I have disabled all add-ons and run more of the FixIt for IE and update options.  I have also reset Windows Update by using the FixIt and also manually re-register dll update involved.  I use IE 8 and have re-installed two times - no change in problem.  Is it possible to manually install the required ActiveX for Microsoft Update, or I can find and manually install updates for Office for this system?

McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself. Even if things seem to be OK now, I highly recommend doing the following to avoid any problem (for example, during the installation of the updates of security this month over the next week).

    • InstallShield interrupted when you try to install a program - 4 Help - on Vista Business 64-bit

I tried to reinstall 4 contribute from a file downloaded from Adobe. Whenever I try to install, I get a message saying that the "InstallShield Wizard has been interrupted and the program was not installed.  Please try again. "I deleted the folder InstallShield to start over, but I still get the same error message. I am doing this on a laptop with Vista for businesses. I tried to download the file and install it on my desktop running on XP, and installed without problem.

The problem, it's just on my laptop with Vista.  I tried to install with my disabled antivirus software, but has always failed.

I was on the phone with Adobe technical support, and so far they cannot understand it, although they say that contribute 4 is not supported on 64-bit Vista.  I find this strange because I ran Contribute on this notebook since July and only had problems recently (where the need to uninstall and reintall - who is at the beginning of my InstallShield problems).

Any suggestions?  I'm no expert, but I can follow simple instructions.

      Hi kitkatz155,

You can try to start the computer in a clean boot state, try to install the game and check if this solves the problem.

Start your computer in a clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

See How to solve a problem by performing a boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

      Hope this information helps.

    • Firefox crashes when I try to access some sites protected by password

Since Firefox updated to 17.0.1, every day, I have this problem. Often when I go to a site like ebay or my Bank, after entering my password, Firefox crashes. When I close Firefox and try to start it again, it does not start. Internet Explorer then does not either. I need to restart. I never had this problem before 17.0.1. I have a desktop running Windows XP and all updated.

It seems that the problem is resolved by updating Trusteer report to the latest version: 1207.40. I don't know why the report software was not being updated automatically on my PC but when I've manually updated the problem disappeared.

      Hello

      1. do you get an error message?

I suggest you to follow these steps and check if that helps:

      Method 1:

If you have installed a security software on the computer, then I suggest you try to disable temporary and check to see if the same problem happens. Make sure that you enable security software back once the diagnosis is made to prevent the computer from virus attacks.

      Method 2:

Try to perform the clean boot and check if it helps:

    • Windows Update crashes when you try to install an update.

Running Windows Vista Home-system hangs at the screen that says: do not unplug or turn off your computer - installation of update 1 of 1.  Has been hung for 2 hours on this same screen.  Update is currently set to automatically install updates.  Should have started last night.  Cannot use the computer without defying the screen that says do not unplug or power off the computer.   What should I do?

Here are two methods you can try: method 1: start with the Windows installation disc and use the repair feature method 2: start the computer in safe mode and then use the system restore feature

    • Explorer Windows Vista crashes when I try to open some files containing new real player files whose icons are not yet open.

Also the RealPlayer downloader is closed by the DEP and direct control host quick time windows will stop working.

I tried to reinstall realplayer, but does not work.

It could be Aproblematique with the codecs trying to preview the files. Go to the Control Panel, reports on problems and Solutions, click on "View problem history" on the left pane, scroll down to Windows Explorer, under click twice on the problem that correspond to the date and time that you have encountered the problem. Note the name of the file next to the heading ' fault module name: ', google for the file to see what program it is. Uninstall, update or reinstall the program.
