Is it safe to close the lid of my laptop while my PC installed updates?

Update my laptop if there is long, and it made me wonder if my laptop updates so that the lid is closed or will provide the update just a break?

Could not.  Depends on what is defined in the configuration of power supply.  It can put to sleep that wouldn't be good updating.

You can check by clicking the power icon in the system tray > power options > chose the closing cover >?

  • Satellite A200 AH3 stops instead of standby when I close the lid

    Hello

I have a laptop Satellite A200 AH3. When I bought Windows Vista was preinstalled (I still drive recovery). When I closed the lid of the previous day (I mean the monitor turn off the HD, the cooling fan and all the rest). The light On / Off on the laptop turned to a flashing orange light.

Then I opened the lid and Windows prompted me to the logon screen. This process occurred when the laptop starts on the battery, not when it is plugged. Everything was going fine.

But I formatted the HD to install WIndows XP that I bought Windows vista seem to be too heavy for my laptop. So I installed Windows XP and the driver and the software available on the Toshiba site. Now when I close the lid, the Windows shut down very quickly (about5-6 seconds). However, it is a real firm. When I reopen it cover anything happen.

Then I press the power button / stop and start Windows, normally (no screen saying that windows close annormally and no Safe Mode boot option). Even if I change the setting in the control panel/power Option or the Toshiba Power Saver, utility and I put them to sleep, he always make a stop down.

    How do I restore that?

    Hello!

Have you downloaded the BIOS for Windows XP?
For the Satellite A200, there are two versions available; one for XP and one for Vista.

Also, make sure that you have the latest graphics card driver and keep your XP to date.

    Good bye

  • When I close the lid on my MBP, it goes to "Standby" to "Hibernate" why?

My MacBook Pro for six years had been working perfectly until about a month earlier, when he stopped to stay in Mode standby when I closed the lid.

With the lid closed, initially, he goes to sleep, but after about 30 seconds, it goes into hibernation mode and to turn on again, I have to press the power button. I then get a grey screen and no use of the trackpad. Shortly after, the gray screen disappears and the machine works perfectly.

The battery life is very good (68%), I have reset the SMC and I have not loaded the new software. The only thing I can think is that this started to occur at the time of the last update of Safari.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Comments or suggestions are appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hello, Spring Lake Bob!

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. After reviewing your post, I understand that your MacBook Pro sleeps as expected when you close the lid. Instead, it goes into a hibernation mode that requires you to press the power button to interact with him again. I certainly understand wanting to make sure that the computer sleeps when it should wake up how it should. I'd be happy to help you!

Get help with your situation, I would say using the article below the link to help isolate and solve the problem of sleep.

  • Satellite A100 - options to close the lid for the laptop are not available

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite A100 - it came with Vista - I carefully cleaned the HARD drive and installed XP - I deleted the partitions etc. and started with a HDD in a perfect state of cleanliness.

Then, I downloaded all Toshiba drivers that are available for my model.

When I close the lid it still fully powered - there is no option to go into sleep mode, Hibernate etc in the options of "close cover" - the only option is the "status quo".
How can I get the standby extended/standby/power options back?

    Your help would be appreciated

    Helen

Did you installed Toshiba Power Saver utility?
These options that you can find.

  • Satellite Pro L10 begins to if auto close the lid

I've got a L10 running windows xp profesional. The problem I have is after the laptop is off and I'm going to close the laptop top restarts.

    Hello

    What?
Are your sure that you do not use the option "restart" your laptop?
The Windows operating system contains the closing down, and then restart the option.

The other possibility is that the parameters energy saver is defined to start the laptop.
Please open the energy saver and check the option "when I close the lid.
But it's very strange because you can configure this option only in sleep or Hibernate mode.
However I recommend you this feature and if necessary set it to no action

  • Satellite A300 - disapperars video if I close the lid

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite a300 PSAGCC - 06:019 and I'm watching movies h264. I am running Vista Home premium SP1 with the latest ATI drivers and catalyst control center. I use the KMPlayer, as well as of the x 64 Media Player Classic version (the latest versions that I could find).

The problem is when I close the lid to see the movie on my tv (via the HDMI port), the video disappears. The sound is not yet, but my TV goes out. When I open the lid of the computer, I can see the movie I'm playing on the laptop screen. This is not conducive to effective viewing!

Can you get it someone please let me know how can I fix?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

Hmm, laptop s display backlight is turned OFF when the lid is closed.
But I put t understand why this affects the output HDMI port.

You can check the settings of Vista power management.
There is an option called (left) choose closing the cover
Here, you should choose disable everything so nothing would happen when lid is closed

PS: Did you choose TV by using the FN + F5?
Please check if only one TV has been chosen.
