Issue of Update Manager (version 4.1)

I know, I know... I ask 1 million questions on these forums.  But! -in my defense, I walked into an environment that has no documents, no resources and no one with any real knowledge of what's going on. Ok? :-)

Now, we want to implement the Update Manager in our environment.  I see that there are various updates and releases it to 4.1.  Is it a situation of having to download the original and then install other on it? Or can you just download and install the latest version?

Thank you!

Always use the version of the update manager that comes with vCenter Server. Take a look at http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php to find out which products are compatible with each other.

  • Plugin simple issue of Update Manager

    Hello

Question very simple but just to confirm.

I see "VMware vCenter Update Manager" in Manager plugins «Download and install» view state

You want to know if I install it, there will be any kind of automatic configuration for downloading patches etc host, everything will begin affecting our hosts, vms, or nothing will change, there is tab Manager Update, nothing else?

    Thank you.

There is no harm to download and install, this is a plugin from the client and does not affect your hosts somehow. Once installed get you an additional "Update Manager" tab where you can switch between the compliance and view admin to manage your infrastructure. Patches are downloaded in a central repository and deployed only to your hosts when you fix them - this is not an automatic process, please start it.

    See you soon,.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Blackberry Protect issue was updated to Version 1.1.1.73

    Hi all

If any of you out there have a problem with verification in BlackBerry Protect after the update, I found this on Crackberry.com. The fix works. Thanks JCBrunson. go to this link and follow the blog,

    http://forums.CrackBerry.com/showthread.php?t=734704

I had the problem of verification. Now it's working. It seems that the update does not update the Blackberry ID software Once you reinstall Blackberry protect, it will update the software for the ID, it will ask to restart and then once rebooted, simply connect to Blackberry protect.

Thanks for that, that's what some of us have recommended the last day for those who has the problem.

You can also go to Options > device > application management and remove the BlackBerryID module when you delete also protect them, and you reinstall Protect, BlackBerryID update module will also be relocated.

  • 3 issues of Update Manager

    Environment: 2 hosts ESXi (vSphere 5.1.0 1065491)

When updating of our guests ESXi the VMs migrate out of the host being upgraded.
After the update of the host ended the virtual machines remain on the other host.
    1. is there a way to configure the updates where, after the update has been completed, the virtual machine migrated to their original host?

    VM with connected CD players.
    2. is it possible to automate the disconnection of CD players?

    Patch repository space
    3. don't spots roll-off after a certain period of time, or they keep build up?

    Thank you.

1.) when a host is in Maintenance Mode, it's the DRS who migrates virtual machines to other hosts. DRS however does not migrate VMS after the upgrade unless there is a conflict, and you must do it manually. You can take a look at are DRS rules to place some VMs on some hosts, but make sure you understand the implications with this.

2.) best practices is to disconnect CDs/ISOs just after its use. In any case, you must either this script or use for example the RVTools who can do for you.

The only patches 3) that you use to clean up the hosts are downloaded. They will remain in the patch store until you delete them manually (at least I'm not aware of an automated method to get rid of them).

  • issue of Update Manager

If I create a new reference case for virtual with the seller = Microsoft Patch and machines product = all fenΩtres, severity = critical, it will be smart enough to know not to try to clear a Windows 2003 patch on my Windows 2008 Server?

Yes, but... VMware moves an application to patch if you use a Crossover.  So, if you have other options, you can look at those as well.

  • Passage of 3.5u3 in vSphere4 - Question on vCenter Update Manager

    Morning all,

We watch move from 3.5u3 to 4 and have never installed vCenter Update Manager (updates manual favorite).

Reading upgrade procedures he explains how we can improve the cluster (5 esx servers) to 4 using the Update Manager.

I was wondering which is the best way to go (the upgrade will not place outside office hours so no confusing our users)

    (1) install Update Manager (relevant version for 3.5u3) now (this allows us to provide fully functional)

    (2) install the Update Manager (version 3.5u3) on Saturday morning, just before the upgrade

    (3) install Update Manager v4 (new now allowing time to test)

    (4) install Update Manager v4 on Saturday morning, just before the upgrade

The reason to ask, I have very little knowledge of the update manager and the last thing I really want is ad-hoc updates applied (as the updates of windows). I'm guessing the number 3 is the best option in this way I can test and have fully functional before necessary - but prefer to get the opinion of those who could have a better understanding.

    TIA

    MadAsToast

Use vCenter Server 4.0 (U1) and the new AUVS.

  • Configure the 5.5 Update Manager to use a different version of MSXML for security reasons

    Versions:

    vCenter 5.5

    Update Manager 5.5

    5.5 ESXi

Hello.  Looks like that the 5.5 Update Manager uses C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msxml4.dll which is marked as critical vulnerability.  We must deal with the most recent version.  The dll update no problem, but how do I get the Update Manager to look at the recently deployed MSXML dll?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide,

    Jamey

VMware said it might be fixed in 5.5 U3 and MUV would use MSXML6. 5.5U3 is out today so I hope the solution is there.

  • Version number VMware update manager

I want to install vmware updatemanager, but it displays: this server vcenter isn't compatile with vmware Update Manager.

My version of vcenter server is: 5.1.0 build 123532

    My 08 R2 64-bit system

I want to use vmware update manager update my vmware environment. So what version of MUV is necessary the download, thanks!

Yes, you can download 5.5 and the environment 5.1 to 5.5.

You will need to start by vCenter, then ESXi hosts.

After you are done before the two, you can go ahead and install VUM.

Another option is to upgrade vCenter, install VUM and then upgrade of servers using AUVS.

  • Version upgrade ESX using Update Manager

    Hello

To upgrade my ESX 3.5.0 Update 2 for Update4 I did the following:

(1.) using Update Manager, I have predefined joint und Crtitcal NO Crtitcal updates and I have created a new ESX Server Updates (dynamic) base apart.

2.) I did clean up Crtitcal updated and overnight NO Crtitcal updates

I didn't fix the new line of manual base ESX Server Updates (dynamic)

Now, all updates are consistent and the build number is 153875

    Should I now update 4?

My question is, do I really need to attach a new ESX Server Updates (dynamic) not predefined reference to the ESX version upgrade?

BTW. ESX HOWTO find new updates?

    Yes, you now have U4.

You do not have to create the new base, critical and Non-critical are enough.

    • Type in ~/library and click go
    • Open the Application Support folder
    • Give full read and write permissions for everyone to the Adobe folder

    Hi Lindieonlyme,

    (1) since when are you facing this problem?

    (2) remember to make changes?

    (3) when exactly you get this error message? When you perform a specific activity or even when the computer is idle?

Method 1: Put the computer to boot and then check if the problem persists

Follow step 1 in the link below,
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.
After find you the program that is causing the problem, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program, if you rarely use that you should consider uninstalling the software.

  • Unable to upgrade to or install Update Manager 5.1.0 Update 2

    Hello

I have Update Manager 5.1 update 1 installed and working. I've just updated the server vcenter to 5.1.0 Update 2 and now trying to upgrade the VUM to also update 2. During the upgrade it kept failing on the login screen of vCenter vCenter Server username and password entered is not recognized. Now the account works, I logged onto the server vCenter as this account and can connect on the client vSphere under this account. The account is an administrator of vCenter.

I could not upgrade to work so decided to completely uninstall VUM and reinstall it again with the update 2 version, but I get exactly the same error. I don't know where to go with this. I tried located accounts but no joy. I get the following in the vminst.log: -.

Interestingly, since the upgrade to vCenter 5.1 update 2, our Veeam VM backups started failing. It is said the service account used to connect to vcenter can no longer do. I think that I now have a vCenter problem rather than with single update manager. Of course, I can live without Manager Update for awhile, but not without our Veeam backup.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Janine

As a result, we actually had major problems with authentication of domain vCenter. All 3rd party plugins did not exist to authenticate (including our Veeam backup) which makes it a little more serious. We could however connect you if one account local existence on the server vCenter himself. We could log on to the server vCenter as a domain account (which is a member of the Administrators group) and then launch the vSphere client, choosing to use "windows session credentials. If we typed in a user and a password that he will not allow you to connect.

We then looked at logging on to the web client that has failed with an error similar to the following: -.

The authentication server has returned an unexpected error: ns0:RequestFailed: internal error during the creation of SAML 2.0 token. The error can be caused by a source of identity with a malfunction.

We could however login to the web client as admin@System-Domain to display the UNIQUE Admin authentication settings and make the necessary changes.

So we knew now that it was more a problem of SSO. Knowledge base articles has made the removal of the source of the local identity that we were not happy in doing so, we placed a call with VMware. VMware response was to deploy a VAPP 5.5 vCenter to see if version 5.5 of SSO can fix this (we run 5.1), we could go SSO to 5.5. Also, we were not satisfied with this response as the new VAPP and SSO version probably would work it would be a clean install. He has not proved that the exsiting SSO to 5.5 upgrade does not have the same problem.

We started trawling through the logs and noticed that there are errors in connection to DCs in a trusted domain (us authenticate not to all accounts etc. in this trusted domain). The trusted domain has been listed as a source of identity in the web client, we decided to remove the domain from the list of sources of identity (after consultation with VMware that said that we could remove it but he wouldn't do anything). We do not think it would work, but it did! We discovered since AD team that there were some problems with the trust between our domain and the other domain and we can only think that after restarting the server vCenter for 5.1 installation update 2 that he then picked up on these issues.

Just thought this may be helpful to anyone experiencing similar problems.

  • I have a question about the ESXi upgrade using Update Manager...

This is probably a stupid question, but I've never played and update ESXi using Update Manager.  We need to update ESXi ESXi 4.1 4.1 servers before vCenter 5.0 U1 from U2 (there is a known issue where the ESXi 4.1 servers receive the GROUP after upgrading vCenter to 5.0 U1).  We used HP ESXi image to install ESXi on our servers for new installations.  This image contains ESXi.1 U2 as well as the drivers of HP and CIM.

    4.1_U2_Oct_2011_ESXi_HD - USB-SDImgeInstlr_Z7550 - 00241.iso

Can this same image HP ESXi 4.1 U2 that we used to install to new ESXi servers, be used to upgrade our 4.1 4.1 U2 ESXi servers using the Update Manager?  Or, upgrade package should be used for the upgrade?  Also, if an upgrade package must be used, is it OK to use one provided by VMware, or will be losing our HP specific drivers and CIM to do this?

    Thank you

    Hello

You can import custom HP ESXi 4.1 U2 ISO in Update Manager (don't forget to use the latest version of June 2012, available here: https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPVM06) and update the hosts with her.

In a second step, you can then import the last custom HP ESXi ISO 5.0 (available here: https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPVM09) and update the hosts again with her.

To be on the current ESXi 5.0 patch level you finally apply the latest patches from VMware via the Update Manager.
