Issues of BIOS and HDD - Portege R830 passwords

HI - looking for advice here.

Have just updated the latest BIOS for my R830 - version 3.10 (EC version 1.20). Update went without a hitch.

My fingerprint reader is kaput - and I will travel far for a while - so need to strengthen security on the laptop - so I put a password on the HDD via BIOS of thought.

However, I'm having some problems - and would assess any help and advice.

In the BIOS tab 'Security' - I have a number of choices. Password BIOS (user and supervisor), HDD1/SSD1 password (- only user, the User Mode + Master) and TPM (on, off).

After searching for things - I think I should be leaving the password of the BIOS as "Unregistered", affecting the mode HDD1/SSD1 password user and TPM 'active '. This should then allow me 'register' a user password.

I will then record a password - enter the password - and then another window opens for typing me any re-confirmation-what I do.

But the password I use - I always get a message "passwords are not the same press ENTER to continue." Pressing continue brings me to the point in the BIOS where it says that the HDD1/SSD1 'User' password is not saved.

You have to believe me - that even if my typing is not great - I type the same passwords. I even tried different types of passwords (digits only, single letter, mix of both)-nothing helped.

I tried enable and disable TPM - again - no change.

Any idea what's going on?

Am I being a complete numpty - and forget to do something?

I would like to know - because as it is, I'm going to travel with your laptop unprotected.

Eeek.

Thank you.

Hello

I recommend that you only set the password of the BIOS.
This is the password that would initially require turning on the device.
As far as I know the unknown BIOS password cannot be deleted by any user, but only by a Toshiba ASP. So it s a security option

In addition the user password and the supervisor password can be set using the assistance of Toshiba.
Check the tools of Toshiba in all programs-> Toshiba-> Utilities-> Toshiba Assist
Here you have the tab called security

  • Portege R830 - updates BIOS and USB 3

    Hi all

    I have a Toshiba Portege R830, business management Windows 7 (SP1) 32-bit (for work).
I also start Linux Mint 14 64-bit, that I installed it on a portable USB HDD (non-professional).

I recently bought a 3 USB HARD drive, but when I connect it to the USB 3 port on my R830, it gives me only USB 2 speeds (25 MB/s).

I checked with some diagnostic utilities (usbdeview, etc.), who say that the drive is connected in USB 2.1 mode.

The drive reports itself as being 3 USB, cable is USB 3 (SuperSpeed) and the port that I use on the R830 is 3.

I feel the same way, if I boot on windows or linux.

I've updated all the drivers on the two operating systems, does not.

then I tried to update the BIOS, but I get the following error:
"An error occurred during the preparation of the updated environment.
You have not given the permission to execute the update".

For the record, it's the BIOS I'm leaving, & to.
BIOS version: Current Ver.2.80--> updated Ver.4.10
THIS Version: Current Ver.1.10--> update Ver.1.60

Does anyone know why I wouldn't get USB 3 speed (which, for my drive, are expected to be around 40-50 MB/s), or why all the diagnostics say USB 2?

Does anyone know how to overcome the problem of updating the BIOS?
(I tried in safe mode, disable AV, disabling NX)

    See you soon

    This USB driver is installed?

Please try to install it and check again speed USB.

  • Need to check the update of the BIOS Portege R830 without Intel TXT

    Hello Forum,

I have exactly the same problem as described here 2 years ago:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=65519

I need to update my BIOS, but I can't because the update of the BIOS told me that the Intel TXT is enabled.
Unfortunately I can not disable it in my bios. Its just not selectable. The 'cursor' jumping just above him.
I can only 'hide' which does not help.
I have the same thing for the VT - x and VT - d setting in the BIOS. Is not selectable or editable as well.

    TPM is not active if...
I installed after infineon and he tells me I need to enable the TPM in the bios to use. :-(

I have a very old Bios Version 3.1 and I read in the changelog that there are a lot of TPM in v 3.4 and 3.5 related changes...

    In any case...
A P007Dv360A_EC77V140.zip file has been transferred to 2shared.com who fixed it at the time, a user named Paolo30.
Unfortunately, that this file has been deleted on 2shared.com

can someone please provide this file (or an update of the bios later) which resolves this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

You can download older versions of pages driver Toshiba BIOS.
    For example: http://www.toshiba-asia.com/sg/support/drivers

On this page of Toshiba Asia I could find all the BIOS for this Portege model.

I can't update the BIOS to 3.8 or the latest version of 3.9. Error: This computer is not supported.

    Any suggestions?

    THKS!

    Hello

One of my friends has updated the BIOS from 3.7 to 3.9 without major problems.
It might be possible that you cannot update the BIOS because of missing or disabled TVALZ services.

Go to control panel of control-> the Administrative Tools icon, and then click services.

Here, you can check if the TVALZ service is available, if it is available, turn it on and then try to update the BIOS.

If this does not work, you will need to retrieve the laptop using recovery disk or recovery disk that the BIOS update should functions using factory reset Toshiba

  • Sound when Portege R830 is anchored and display lid is closed

I have a fairly new Toshiba Portege R830 laptop (PT321E-01E00YEN) who don't use speakers integrated if it is placed in a dock with the closed laptop screen or the microphone.

This causes problems when you try to work from only an external monitor, but when I flip the lid open, it works fine.

I am using a replication of port II (PA3916B) and once installed a month ago, all device etc drivers has been updated to the lasted available so I think that there is a software configuration option that just needs to check or disabling.

No one knows where that might be?

I test this on an another older duplicator that has been purchased for a R700-15R and have exactly the same problem, so I don't think it is hardware related.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

Please don't get me wrong, but to me this behavious seems logical. When you close the lid internal speaker and microphone placed close to the cam are blocked so I don't know how you want to use.
When the laptop is closed and set aside, it's almost the same as the office. All devices that you need should be connected to the docking station and external devices.

If you use your laptop on a regular route, but they also appear external to office extension, you can use all the internal devices to your laptop.

In my opinion the point of berthing of the use of the station of different devices to your laptop, but using the docking station, you can remove the laptop and take it with you without disconnection of all connected devices, including the power supply.

To be honest, I see here no problem. You can contact Toshiba service nearest and ask for opinions, but I'm sure the answer will be the same.

  • Configuration of the BIOS XW8600 for SSD and HDD

Until recently, my xw8600 has been configured with the emulation of SATA under storage on the separate IDE controller Options.  250 GB hard drives connected to the SATA 1 and SATA ports 0 and readers of DVD RW Drive connected to 2 SATA and SATA 3 ports.

I wanted to install a GTX240 Neutron Corsair SSD, but discovered when I changed the SATA RAID + DCIS emulation (to activate all 5 ports of SATA controller and optimize the performance of the SSD), the system could not find the boot drive.  I checked the startup command settings and found the slot drive HARD listed title module of memory into the attached USB printer HP Officejet 7500 a first and could not be changed.

I decided to go back to SATA IDE emulation separate, remove the optical drive on SATA 2 port and attach the SSD it.  This facility is expected to start successfully; but after installing windows 7 x 64 on the SSD (Windows XP, x 64, still on the HARD drive), I found Windows 7 has been very very slow.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or comments on how I can improve this situation?

Thanks for any help, you can suggest.

What is an installation of Windows 7 Pro 64 - bit of a retail installation DVD purchase, or something HP?  If I remember well Vista 64 was the latest HP OS with sold.  In this case you won't have to deal with a set of HP restore disks.  I would never do an "upgrade" of a prior installation of OS in W7.  I only do not clean install W7 on a freshly long-type reformatted hard drive or an SSD.  I buy my "system builder" OEM license W7Pro 64 - bit DVD/COA from newegg.com (you can find that many sources and approximately 140.00 each).

Plan to do a clean install on this SSD from scratch and when you format before that settle does long formatting version, while it is booted from the W7 DVD.  That will take some time.  Or, if you have a functioning before the OS install on a hard drive, you can restore the xw8600 you can connect the SSD in the second or third SATA port and reformat (long version) management of records like this.

The boot drive or SSD, Spinner, must always be connected to the primary SATA port, which in these workstations, is usually blue plastic, while the rest are a dark black.

Make sure that your BIOS is later... There was a version for this and the xw6600 with a few months ago.  It is an important.

Put the SSD in your favorite mount, hang it in the main SATA port, prepare the W7 DVD in the DVD drive (which should be attached to the second port SATA or IDE cable if it's a DVD ATA drive). Throwing xw8600, go straight into the BIOS and go to which you can change the SATA emulation.  Change that on "RAID + AHCI.  Save on the way out of the BIOS, and the workstation will now reboot usually requiring formal approval of the change F1.

Demarrer start on the DVD, select clean install and things will be fine.  I usually set my boot order to start hard drive/SSD first and second optical drive.  Then, when I load an OS I just use the F9 key during the early start to switch to the DVD player for this single event.

It's the key information: If you have correctly set to "RAID + AHCI" SATA emulation for the W7 installation process, then the appropriate drivers will not be loaded from the DVD on the startup disk, and you won't receive anywhere near your expected speed.  I helped a friend who had done exactly what you did, and when we corrected things literally double SSD performance scores.  I recommend that the reformatting/clean reinstall from zero here, because you want to really perfect the basics and the way he was treated initially can leave you with a few important questions.

After you have things working with the SSD and the DVD player you can add in your other material sequentially.  I would like to make a reboot between each addition, just be very careful.  Some old HP DVD drives have a problem with W764 loading during the emulation of the SATA BIOS is set correctly and there is a solution for this, but you don't want from now this info.

All the advice I have written in this forum about the xw6400 installs apply to the xw6600 and xw8600, including information on the upgrades of the processor.

  • Re: Portege R830 - 10 p - BIOS settings problem

I tried to update the BIOS, I found the most recent BIOS, downloaded and run...
Then, Windows display pop up message:

    + BIOS TOSHIBA package + Ver.4.1.2

    + BIOS Version: current Ver.2.10--> update Ver.3.50 +.
    + EC Version: Current Ver.1.10--> update Ver.1.30 +.

+ Because the Intel TXT (Trusted Execution Technology) is activated, the update of the BIOS and IT cannot be run. +

I rebooted the machine, you press F2 to enter the BIOS, then... I can't change "Trusted Execution Technology" feature Enable, Disable may also depend on TPM. The same problem I have with virtualization can also modify feature.

I don't really know why BIOS do this kind of jokes, a few days before I can change all the options and now I can't. Features described are on a black background and cursor jumps them...

    Hello

Does this mean that you was able to change the TPM secure and Trusted Execution Technology in the past?

Have you tried to set the BIOS to default settings?
In the BIOS, press F9 and save the changes, this put the laptop s default BIOS.

In addition, check the Toshiba HWSetup tool located in all programs-> Toshiba-> Utilities.
Here you can change the settings of the BIOS too

    Thank you

Portege R830 supports only a single disk drive HARD or SSD.

With regard to the optical adapter Bay HDD/SSD Caddy:
I'm not quite sure if BIOS would be able to use suchpart m.

In the past, some computers laptop Toshiba supported Select Bay who was allowed to use the HARD disk enclosure in the Bay of ODD, but many books don't supports this functionality.

In the worst cases, you need to replace your current HDD/SSD with the biggest HDD/SSD

  • Portege R830-10R: No. USB connection after recovery from sleep mode

    Nice day!

I have experienced the problem depending on my Portege R830-10R for a long time.

Quite often, when he recovers as soon as "sleep" mode it loses the ability to recognize USB devices and built-in 3G modem does not work as well.

After awhile, like 10-15 minutes of work (or), the problem is solved by itself, but normally, it is not the case.

If I try to send the laptop to Hibernate or "standby mode" again, while this problem is active, allows to say, it not put into hibernation and crashes on a midway with a black screen - so I have to stop it manually, and then start again.

Normally, the only way to solve the problem is to restart, but the issue comes after the next "standby".

Someone has something like this? Any solution available?

    Hello

    > Quite frequently, when he recovers as soon as "sleep" mode it loses the ability to recognize USB devices and built-in 3G modem does not work as well.

Have you noticed this behavior from the first day of purchase?

Only special USB devices assigned as USB flash memory stick or USB HDD or are
other devices such as the USB mouse or USB keyboard has also affected?

  • Re: Portege R830 eSATA - failure to mount the external hard drive

{color: #000000} I have a new Portege R830 with combined eSATA / USB port. It will recognize an external drive in as drive 0 Device Manager but does not mount the drive under Win 7 x 64. The road rises and works absolutely normally under USB2 via the combined port or one of the other ports on the PC. The player works absolutely normally under eSATA on another desktop PC Win 7 x 64

Search Internet suggests that this is a widespread problem with Win 7, but given the above commentary to normal operation on my desk, strongly indicates that it is "simply" a laptop Toshiba driver problem Win 7 x 64.

A workaround solution that someone had reported was to boot the PC with the drive connected. This will lead to the PC mount the drive, but I found to be unreliable - tends to freeze the unpredictable machine, but when logged in it showed he was transferring data at a reasonable speed.

The search for these forums, no solution has not identified... Toshiba - think you should answer it please!

Afetr all is a 'feature' significant on the Portege and rather defeats the point if it is impossible to use...

    Kind regards

    Kevin {color}

    Hi mate

First of all, it is a forum for a user to this don t address issues from Toshiba here in the forum, but other users of this community.

Back to your question; Does this mean that the HARD drive connected to the eSATA port cannot be recognized as device eSATA but USB device?

Please check if you are using the latest version of the BIOS. On the European driver Toshiba page, you can find the BIOS version transferred to 29/07/11.
In addition, I recommend to check the BIOS settings; check if eSATA is activated it.

    Thanks for the help?

The HDD or SSD drive update requires no special modifications in the software or hardware.
You need a compatible player SATA SSD 2.5.

Here is a nice and very useful document how to upgrade / replace the Portege R830 & Satellite R830 series SSD or HARD disk drive.

    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/CRU18037E0000R01.htm

Of course, after this upgrade, you'll need to install the system new the best choice would be its use or recovery disk and recover the laptop to factory settings.
