Lightroom or PSE

Saw 14 PES, really I can't find a good reason to buy Lightroom. Can someone give me an answer?

Hi fiorenzob,

Lightroom is a workflow management software advanced with tools not destructive image mass edition, publication and printing. Mainly principalement destines for professional photographers, also have better capabilities editing and Image organization.

Please see Photoshop Elements vs. Lightroom: making the right choice!

See the basic difference here Lightroom vs. Photoshop Elements

Hope that helps.

Kind regards

Assani

  • Color profile question from lightroom to PSE 12.

After changing for Windows 10 I find that the color profile is deleted when opening a file from Lightroom 6 to 12 of PSE.  I also get an error message when you try to load a 12 for 8.5 RAW update.  The error reads U44M1I210.  If anyone can help with the problem.

Ok. What is the setting in Lightroom under preferences > external editing > color space? Here you have the choice between sRGB, Adobe RGB and ProPhoto. The default is ProPhoto, and unless you have changed, it is how it opens in the external editor (in your case, PES).

If you view while in an another viewer of photos without color management, color will be away (dark and desaturated).

Now, there may be color settings of the specific items that can strip or convert this profile, so I would still recommend that go. All I can do here is to take the floor for Lightroom and Photoshop.

  • Migration from Lightroom to PSE 6

I give up on LR6 as a library because the management of key words it is so difficult.

I already said there is no way to migrate a LR 6 to the PSE catalog, so my only option is to ensure that all key words are written in files and then create a new catalog from scratch in PSE. I guess it's doable.  I will organize the keywords in PSE then

    Anyone has any advice please?

    Thank you

So if I hit the button continue in the system dialog box write the relevant keyword to each file in turn.  It will not write all keywords in all files?  I thought I would ask before I commit the action on the files of 20K.

    Yes, you must choose "continue."

It is easy to test the procedure in trying simply to import a small folder or subfolder.

Sidecar files are an unknown area for me.  All my files are simple JPEG files.  Sorry to be a nuisance, but can you give me a little more information about the necessary steps to make writing key words in files please?

Then, you have found the way to do it. If you shoot raw or use ACR for JPEG files, the process is much simpler.

Also, given your comment about the creation of the hierarchy of keywords in the target, I looked at exporting keywords LR and import into PSE11.  But LR exports as a txt file while PSE11 requires an xml file.  What Miss me it please?  Do I have to recreate the keywords manually in PSE?

I have not looked into the difference in export format of the hierarchy of keywords in LR and the Organizer. I'll take a look later, but xml files are a type of text file. No idea if they are compatible.

  • How to download Lightroom and PSE on new laptop of old desktop?

I want to downlaod Lightroom and Photoshop Elements for my new laptop Macbook Pro. I already a desktop computer. I should be able to download them on two computers, but I can't find out how to do this. I don't want to register for creative cloud, I want just the applications installed on the new computer I already have on my old computer.

    Available downloadable Setup files:

Download and installation help links Adobe

Help download and installation to Prodesigntools links can be found on the most linked pages.  They are essential; especially steps 1, 2 and 3.  If you click on a link that does not have these listed steps, open a second window by using the link to Lightroom 3 to see these "important Instructions".

  • Vs Lightroom Photoshop elements Organizer

I do not know Lightroom, but a friend suggested as a solution to my problem, so here goes:

I have a subscription to CC (and have used some Creative Suite for years). I use CC to work, but for my personal photos, professional, I have always used Photoshop elements Organizer, because I've never found his equal - as the Organizer. Also, I invested a massive amount of effort in the marking of each photo (about 30 000 pictures, more than 10 years) with keywords.

I have no interest in the other features of Photoshop Elements'. I have CC for something else that PES done that I care to do.

However, I don't really want to keep shelling out for PES, given that I already pay (effectuι) about a zillion dollars to Adobe over the years for Creative Suite and now CC.

So here's the question: can I use Lightroom (or bridge, perhaps) as a substitute for organizing PSE? Both programs import the PSE Organizer catalogs? Because unless I can import what I have, no other organiser will do it for me.

I would consider also another product of the Organizer, if you could import catalogs PSE, but I hope that there is that a little gem of a program already in CC I'm not aware of that will do the trick.

    TIA.

Lightroom upgrades PSE catalogs for use in Lightroom. Give it a try. See if you like it.

  • Lightroom and external HD

I have Adobe Photoshop elements 11, first items 11, Lightroom 4, an external hard drive and a MacBook Pro, but I don't know where to start.

    1. I wonder especially if I have to download the software on my computer and put my photos on the external hard drive (I thought it would be better to put my pictures on the external hard drive, as to save memory of my computer, but do not know if the software will be able to access photos here)?  What is the best Setup?

    2. If the software on the computer can 'find' pictures on the external hard drive, essentailly photos are saved on my computer when I edit them with the software?  If so, it wouldn't slow down my computer (or is there a way to get around this)?

    3. these programs (e.g. Photoshop, Elements, Lightroom) work together?  If so, how we configure them to do so and to use them in this way?

    Thank you!

Programs should go on the internal hard disk, Lightroom catalog should go on the internal hard disk, photos can go on the external or internal, as you prefer. Lightroom has no problems to access photos on your HD Putting of external programs and other stuff on your drive hard internal does not use your computer's memory, it uses the hard disk space that is different.

Lightroom or PSE moves photos (unless you tell the program to do it). Photos on your external hard drive can stay on your external hard drive (unless you tell Lightroom to move them elsewhere). Changing them does not mean that they are now on your internal HD (by the way, putting stuff on your drive hard internal does NOT slow down your computer, until you get to the point where he very little empty space left on the internal hard drive)

PSE and Lightroom will work together, see http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80035

  • Problem importing items 8 to Lightroom 5

I just installed 5 Lightroom and import a catalog Elements 8.  Now, each photo is marked with a warning that the metadata has changed by Lightroom and "another application."  He asks if I want to use Lightroom data or other data. Lightroom is to see the pictures for the first time. I don't know the data to use.    I can compare the two sets of data?  Can someone help me decide?

In addition, there are 22000 pictures, how to perform this action for all the photos?

    Thank you

Well, then the default mode of operation in Lightroom and PSE is not to write metadata in files. For example, when you upgrade the PSE catalog to a LR catalog, metadata in the PSE catalog are transferred to the metadata fields in the LR catalog. However, the information contained in the files are left empty. So I guess (because I'm not sitting in front of your computer, I guess) is that this is what happened.

Therefore, I think that everything is fine, the metadata in the Lightroom Catalog is correct (and match metadata in the PSE catalog), so you should choose to use metadata in Lightroom.

If you are worried about making the wrong choice, please understand that it is fully reversible, by updating your PSE catalog a 2nd time.

  • DNG files exported from the LR4 showing does not changes made when opened in PSE10?

I have LR4, and once I do some changes that I exported the files I want to use DNG.  Then I open them in PSE10 to make final changes.  It has been working well, in fact I had an old version of Adobe Raw in my PSE on my other computer.  Then when I opened to post-secondary studies, he would ask if I wanted to convert to compatible version for editing in camera raw.  I always says no b/c I have has no need to do more raw edits.  Now that I've installed PSE on my new computer, it has the new version of ACR I guess.  When I open the DNG Edit now I no longer have this error message, but it's to show my contrast, etc. as an action setting raw instead of the changes I made in LR.  Some are like vibrance, but "recovery" that I know is "strong points" in LR, and other things are not displayed correctly.  I know that the options are different, but I don't want to use the ACR settings he uses when I open the file, or have to go through them again.  I'm not there is something I'm missing, but he cannot know.  Thanks for any help!

There is zero advantage to sending files DNG at the PSE. As you can see, you're not see your changes and get different sliders in PSE, and indicates that certain types of ACR version mismatch. And since you say you are done making the FIRST changes, this wastes just opening time of the DNG in the PSE/ACR interface that you will not use...

Rather than send the DNG PES files, send a TIF file to PSE using the command of Lightroom Photo-> change, and this TIF will open directly in the editor, with all of your changes from Lightroom intact PSE.

  • Picture manager/Organizer for Photoshop?

Photoshop (current version) comes with an organizer to manage his photos?  Photoshop Element has the organiser (or program). Or is Lightroom, considered as the organizer for Photoshop and must be purchased separately.  Other forums that I read, I think I understand the differences between Lightroom and PSE for editing (especially for raw images).   I don't understand, it's Photoshop has any type of organisation, labelling, software etc., built in?

    Thank you... Patrick

The Adobe.com site has many descriptions of these programs, but I don't know of any concise comparison, because the products are intended for many different uses and users:

Bridge is intended for access and marking the files of all types, not just of the fast images and can be used with programs that many kinds of digital content, photos not only to change.

Organizer of PSE is marketed as an organizer of consumer images and videos, closely integrated with the image editor Photoshop Elements and editor of elements of Prime Minister.

Lightroom offers an organization closely integrated and the edition of "workflow" for raw and JPEG pictures, designed for professionals and serious amateurs.

  • I just bought a iMac n. How can I install my two products (PSE + Lightroom)?  I was previously using Windows.

Hello I just bought a iMac n. How can I install my two products (PSE + Lightroom) once again, knowing that I used in windows system?

It depends on which versions of these products that you request.  The latest versions are specific to the platform, which means that a Windows license won't work for Mac installation.  If this is the case for you, then you will need to contact the Support from Adobe and demand, they give you a swap of platform.

If they are older versions, then you might be able to use the same serial number with the Mac versions of the files.

If you don't see any kind of offer for a discounted price as a result of what you have already purchased, then it is not likely a discount offered.  PSE is normally known Photoshop Elements (aka Photoshop Lite)... I expect a discount for a true purchase Photoshop if that's what you mean by PSE.

  • Organizing Tags in LightRoom even as I do in PSE

    Hello everyone,

I plan to move to LR5 because my current workflow does not work effectively at all (Aperture 3 + PSE 9)

My concern is this: I LOOOOOOVE the party organizer of the PSE so I feel that I will not be able to cope without a serious equivalent.

I have read on this forum and understood somehow, it will be possible to keep my tags (keywords). Large.

My question: is tagging images as easy as PSE9 LR5? I mean tags tree, select and apply several tags, etc..

    Thank you very much

There is a lot of overlap between the Lightroom library Module and the Organizer in PSE. In my view, the use of tags to keywords in Lightroom and post-secondary studies are easy equivalently, with each software allowing roughly the same regarding the tags/keywords. In my opinion, the Lightroom library Module has more features than the PSE Organizer and fewer bugs.

  • Update PSE catalog for use in Lightroom

I'm looking to get Lightroom and to understand that you can update your catalog of items to create a new lightroom catalog. From what I've seen, the PSE albums are called collections in LR.

Then albums just PSE become collections when you update the catalog? Is it that simple? I seem to only because as it contradictory opinions on the web to know if records are lost or not?

I assume that there are people who have done this before and I can confirm?

    Thank you

Are PSE albums collections of LR.

I don't know why there is a controversy on this issue, because it's happening.

Added: well, I think I know why there's a controvery thereon. If you convert the catalog PSE the bad meaning (by importing photos), you will not get the albums or collections. If you upgrade the PSE catalogue the good way, through the LR command file > upgrade Photoshop elements catalog, you get converted to collections albums.

    Of http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/help/import-photos-various-sources.html#import_photos_fro m_photoshop_elements

In the library module, choose file > upgrade Photoshop elements catalog.
    • The upgrade Photoshop elements Catalog dialog box displays the most recently opened Photoshop Elements catalog.
    • To choose a different PSE catalog, click on the drop of Photoshop Elements.
    • To change the destination of the new Lightroom Catalog, click on edit and navigate to a different folder.
    • Click upgrade to import the PSE catalog into a new Lightroom Catalog.

    Up to you really.

If you no longer use PSE8 then feel free to remove it.
