Locking after sleep in Windows 8

I use your new desktop HP with Windows 8.  When the computer goes to sleep, the computer seems to cling.  Specificallly, I don't get the screen lock or to enter the password.  I can get the desktop, but the icons are presented only in the bar of tasks and not on the top of the screen.  If I reboot, everything works fine.

I tried to call to the top of the lock with the Windows Logo screen - L, but it does not work.

Am I missing something?

Since I contacted you, I removed some malware that had slipped in.  It was a browser named FINDWIDE hijacker.  After a representative of the technical support of Norton (Symantic) helped me to remove, the problem that I contacted you everything has disappeared.

Thank you for your time.

PS Ce malware was insidious.  Finders highly respected same malware, its presence had not identified.

If I put my laptop to sleep by closing the lid, when I restart Thunderbird is frozen and I need to kill the session and start a new.

I noticed some users have this problem under Windows 10 as well. This week, I had installed Windows 10, but changed his mind and returned to Windows 7, so there could be a link any. But perhaps, I had this problem of TB even before the fight with Windows 10. My sense is that the problem started right after that I installed the version 38.2 Thunderbird on Windows 7.

Turn off my modules doesn't and extensions seem to make any difference, I also compacted my mailboxes and purged from the Inbox... to nothing does not.

I found a solution, which is simply to replace Version 38.2. I went to 31.8 as was the latest general release "non-beta". It snaps back in action without problem my computer talk.

  • C:\ drive locked after update of Windows 8

Earlier this morning I went to turn on my computer (Custom built Asus with Windows 8. Pro 64 - bit), I was greeted with the BSOD saying "a problem occurred" without any technical information. After a while he started finally to the "Boot Menu" he wouldn't let me refresh or reset the PC saying that the 'hard drive has been locked', most of the other startup options will not work. So I took out the hard drive and attached to my laptop (I have a SATA USB cable). He said I need to format the hard drive before accessing the drive, also "disk management", says the Partition type was 'RAW '. I didn't lose my data, so after a little more research, I put in a disc of Windows 7 and selected "Repair PC" and let it solve the problem. He said something like "repair hard disk. I let it run for a few hours, when it was done I took the drive and restarted my computer. It started normally with the windows logo 8 but when that ends, he goes to a black screen. I went to the "Boot Menu" but now he allowed me to update my computer. So, I updated my computer. This is where my current problem started. Once the update the computer restarted, he gave me a choice of two operating systems to open two of them saying "disk 1 of Windows 8. I chose the other and he went to the login to my profile screen. I logged in and it started the first time boot screen. After he 'Got things ready' it opens the start menu, that had "Desktop" "Windows Store" "Internet Explorer" and "Skype" (Skype was no logo just the name and a small cross in the corner). I went to the office (where I got what looked like safe mode), which has a black background with the model number of widows 8 in the corner and the only shortcuts to my steam game that were on my other hard drive (which was already disconnected) and a shortcut called 'Deleted Applications' Internet from there , I went to my computer and tried to access the C:\ drive when I try to open it says something like "can't access C:\. "I took the car back out and plugged into my laptop where I get the same message. That's where my expertise ends. A great help.

    Hello @deepak9758,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I understand that you are having a problem of sleep mode and that he wanted to help you!

For starters, can you provide me with the product number of the laptop?  Here is a link that you can use that will help you find your model and product number:

How can I find my model number or product number?

In the meantime, try to review the next steps, posted by Member of the DanG82community:

    1. Download version 9 or 10 of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver.
    2. Browse HP Software and Driver Downloads of the site (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html) to find the latest driver approved for your model. Filtrer filter by version, select Microsoft Windows 8.1 on the menu drop-down. Find the download in the category 'Driver-Chipset' If a pilot of MEI with a version from 9 or 10 number is listed, download. [9.5.24.1790 version 1.5 M (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66001-66500/sp66228.exe) works for most models.]
    3. If a pilot of MEI with a version from 9 or 10 number is NOT listed, download the appropriate driver directly from Intel (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=intel+management+engine). [9.5.24.1790 version 1.5 M (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23091/Intel-ME-9-Management-Engine-Driver-for-Intel-NUC) works for most models.]
    4. Download the Package troubleshooting tool Windows 10 "show or hide updates" (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab).
    5. Change the Windows Update Services automatic (delayed start) parameter to the manual.
    6. In Control Panel, select administrative tools, and open Services.
    7. Go to Windows Update and double-click it to view its properties.
    8. Click on stop to stop the service to run.
    9. Change the Startup Type to manual, and then click OK.
    10. Install version 9 or 10 of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver. If you receive a warning dialog box about the replacement of a newer version of the software, accept it.
    11. NOTE: You don't need to uninstall version 11 before installing version 9 or 10. The presence of a version of the driver is required to 'upgrade' (or demote in this case).
    12. Run the Windows 10 Troubleshooting Package 'Show or hide updates' and hide the updates of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver. (This will block your system automatically reinstall or display of updates for version 11 of the pilot).
    13. Change back the setting of Windows Update Services to manual automatic (delayed start).
    14. Restart your computer.
    15. Rejoice!  You can finally sleep and stop again.

  • Yoga - Thinkpad receiver of messages shortcut hot keys 30% CPU use and after the screen lock or sleep

Hello! After returning from standby or locking screen, a process called 'Receiver of Thinkpad messages for shortcut shortcut keys' begins to use about 30% of the CPU. Time to go upo to battery of 60 to 70 degrees is running out very quickly. This process does not stop until I finish using the Task Manager. The end in this way, once it restarts even if I use sleep or lock the screen. Need help with this!

I do not have this problem as a month ago or not. Has probably seen the day after some updates.

On the edge of the T series, there is an update for this: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/t540p-high-cpu-usage-by-shtctky-exe-ThinkP...

I installed on the yoga. After the first reboot, a program called 'tposd.exe' used about 30% of cpu. I thought that this update does not work. But after the second restart that is not more. Shtctky.exe is not also using the cpu after sleep or lock. So I think we have a solution.

  • Windows 7 "no DNS (or no network) after sleep (wake up) sleep (or Hibernate).

The purpose of this thread is to understand the expected behavior of the TCP in Windows 7 stack and the cards on the resume from sleep/hibernate - not - display the suggestions that have been posted in other threads.  I also wanted to gather some folklore on this subject in one place...

It seems to be a group of people having this problem Windows 7 "no DNS (or no network) after sleep (wake up) sleep (or Hibernate)" without definitive duty (or with various) responds to what the issue is.

Do some reading on this in various places, I see:

-Suggestions to disable UPnP.  This should be largely irrelevant to the problem.

-Reset the default router.  Generally, this should not be necessary.

-Reinstall Windows 7 (ah yes, the panacea for all ills!).

-Replace DHCP static IP address.  This should not be necessary (considered at best as a workaround).

-If it solves the problem, it points the finger at DHCP feature / state on the curriculum vitae of sleep?

-Disable the firewall.  This shouldn't be a problem (why would it).

-If it is a question, it is likely to be isolated, rather than the majority of the cases.

    -VMWare (or similar) virtual networks.

-This could be a problem for some people.  It would be useful for anyone who has a problem to confirm if they have VMWare or similar virtualization installed products (who can create virtual networks).

-Disable the TCP (TCP sliding windows) tuning car.

-It is possible that TCP auto tuning could be a problem for some people - but - unlikely, it would be a problem for people only on the recovery from sleep mode.  I think that anyone with questions about the TCP (TCP sliding windows) tuning car rather than questions on RESUME intermittent connectivity problems.

-Some people report improved performance when turn it off this feature.   Report MSFT from 10 x to x 1000 in laboratory performance. conditions.  It's one you need to test yourself to see if it helps or otherwise.

-NETSH INTERFACT TCP SET GLOBAL AUTOTUNING = OFF

-NETSH INTERFACT TCP SET GLOBAL AUTOTUNING = NORMAL

-It works on XP but not on Windows 7?

-It is fairly widely commented that the TCP stack has been re-written/improved thanks to Vista and Windows 7.  It is not surprising, therefore that problems on Windows 7 that do not exist on Windows XP.  This does not necessarily imply that the Windows 7 stck is bug, just as not all software and peripheral food chain TCP are speaking the language of same/current (in the absence of a better technical description).

-One wonders, therefore, are only optimizations issues additional tuning and unloading that have been made in the new stack TCP?   How this confrontation with the problems that occur only in the curriculum vitae of sleep/wake extended?

-Some people recommended prevents the system from voltage of their cards during the standby/hibernation.  Does this means:

    -The card is not dynamic.

-If the card is allowed to be turned off so there will be a lag between the state saved in Windows and the State represented (none) in the card when the system is out of his sleep (or Hibernate).

-Perhaps, it's something that needs to be addressed in the functions of battery/sleep TCP in Windows 7 - How to handle/recover the situation when the NETWORK adapter is turned off?

-If we put the system to sleep, we want to have power supplied to the maps or not (what are the implications)?

-People have the same problem for the hibernation?

-If there is a problem of State related to the cards, would be - why, in some cases of people solve the problem by disabling optimizations that involve some treatment being given cards instead of being carried out using the processors.  If it was kept in the processors, we have consistent state on the resume (as opposed to cards)?

I think what I understand of MSFT is here:

-What is the behavior designed in the stack revised to ensure a consistent state between the adapter, battery, previously obtained DNS, DHCP settings, etc., the curriculum vitae of sleep/wake extended.

-Unlikely connections persist across sleep/hibernation - so are they remind/re-restored?

-Windows 7 has more work to properly manage this for cards that - are - power off during sleep?

-Is - it a requirement of MSFT at this time for an own CV, the card must stay lit?

An exchange of views on how this is supposed to work for MSFT would be useful.  Then perhaps hundreds if not thousands of people facing this issue can understand why it happens and how they can solve.

    [upstairs]

Thank you for spending time and energy on it. I had a frustrating to deal with this problem, but - finally, disable virtual network cards seems to have helped.

  • Windows Mobile 8 turns is not on after sleep.

I have a Haier laptop with windows 8 is installed. Few days back my laptop got problem with mode 'sleep', it might be light not after sleep and I had to stop it to turn it on. This time after sleep, I tried to turn it on, but it has been set for the auto repair, after some time it says "Your PC couldn't be repaired" with options like system restore, refresh, reset, guest... Whenever I turn on the same process repeats... Now what should I do? Any suggestions?

Since your laptop now Windows 8 OS, you will have an error "the inserted media is not valid" when inserting it with Windows 8.1. To get this fix you are trying to insert the media Windows with Windows 8 OSrecovery or installation. Then, try to update your PC or reset your PC. Otherwise, you must reinstall Windows 8.1 with your media recovery instead of use the refresh or Reset.

    Kind regards

For laptops Asus on Windows 8 - actions no longer work after sleep on touchpad

    Manual method

    • Open the Task Manager, look for the "Asus Smart gesture Center" process Complete the task.

    Script method

    • Script: Create a .bat somewhere file with the following code:
      Taskkill /IM AsusTPCenter.exe /F

When you run the bat file, it will kill the process.

Both: when to end the task, that it seems that the other process from Asus running it will detect it and start it, allowing the multi-doigt touch again.

    To make the batch file:

    1. Open Notepad and copy/past this command:Taskkill /IM AsusTPCenter.exe /F
    2. Then click on save as and type .bat (remove .txt)

  • My laptop locked after I use it for several minutes.

    Hello world

I have a really annoying problem.

My laptop is locked after I use it for several minutes.

When I say locked, I want to say it is the place where shows my account name and below it says locked.

As a first step, I think it is caused by the automatic locking of cuz I'm really annoyed by this last, I uninstalled it.

    However it still does not.

Could someone tell me what the problem is on the Earth?

It's maybe just because I really don't know with my new laptop.

It's a power setting that determines how long before its entry in the screen saver, sleep more, or even in hibernation mode. You can change the requirement for a password (somewhere in the Windows screen saver section) or the duration before entering these modes (you should be able to define with the Lenovo Power Center thing). Of course, making one is a security risk, but it is up to you as to how much safety or comfort desired.

  • Some applications does not respond after sleep (El Capitan)

Product: 13 '' Macbook Pro retina (12.1) (base model sheet)

    El Capitan Version: 10.11.6

    The problem:

When I connect after that my Macbook went down, I often have problems with some of the stock apps. In particular, I had this problem with the Mail Messages, reminders and calendar. This seems to be a problem when they are open before putting the macbook to sleep. This same problem happened with non-apple-stock applications.

Once logged in, if I click on the application icon, the application window will come into focus. After that, I'm unable to use the application (as if frozen) and I often just see the spinning Rainbow mouse icon.

Can I force quit the app and then open it again, but now the application does not load.

To solve the problem, I can restart the macbook and all is well.

Some others probably associated with funny things I saw (only attracted to this once... but did not look at one time or another):

I open the calendar application after the macbook was sleeping and my full general calendar was empty (which would be nice if it were true!). In any case, I checked the 'accounts' and also found that there was no accounts! (I have 3 goes). So I wonder if there is a problem with the accounts after sleep since these apps I've had problems with all iCloud account and mail also uses some other accounts.

Big Question: Is there something I can do to make that happen?

Thank you very much for your help! Sorry if this is a double post, it is difficult to find an answer via google search.

Start Safe Mode removes the system caches that can help...

Follow these steps to start in safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key.
    3. Release the SHIFT key when you see the logo Apple appears on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, this may take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your office. This is because your Mac performs a check of directory of your drive to boot in safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Then try to Message, Mail, etc.

If you still have problems, check the startup disk.

Launch the disk utility located in/Applications/Utilities

Then select the disk to boot on the left and then select the first aid tab and then click run.
