  • Impossible to mount the drive external HARD under Ubuntu Linux - file system damaged and MFT

I get the following error when I try to mount my external hard drive on my Ubuntu.

    UNABLE TO MOUNT
    Error mounting/dev/sdc1/media/khalibloo/Khalibloo2: command-line ' mount t 'ntfs' o ' uhelper = udisks2, nodev, nosuid, uid is 1000, gid = 1000, ask dm = 0077, fmask = 0177 "" / dev/sdc1 "" / media/khalibloo/Khalibloo2 "' came out with the exit status no lame 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: input/output error".

NTFS is incompatible, or there is a hardware failure, or it's a SoftRAID(4)/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows, and then restart Windows twice. Using the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID(4)/FakeRAID then frst activate and mount a different device under the/dev/map/directory, (for example/dev/map/nvidia_eahaabcc1). See the documentation for 'dmraid' for more details.

It is not mount on windows either: "i/o device error".

This is a disk with a single partition hard ntfs

Of course, I tried chkdsk /f. reported several file segments as unreadable, he didn't say if he fixed them or not (apparently not). also tried with the indicator/b.

    ntfsfix reported as corrupted volume.

TestDisk was able to correct a small error with the partition table by adding the '80' for the active partition indicator (only). TestDisk also confirmed that the boot sector was very good and it corresponded to the backup. However, when you try to repair the MFT, he could not read the MFT. He could not also the list of files on the hard drive. It says file system may be damaged.

Active @ also shows that the MFT is missing or damaged.

I tried to replace the USB cable. Has not changed anything. I tried to update the driver. Windows reported that he was already up to date. Yes, the pilot has been activated.

So, how can I fix the file system? or MFT? or the I/o device error?
I used the HARD drive for months. This problem started 2 days ago. I also tried to mount it on other computers, without success.

    Hello

I'm sorry to read about problems with your drive.
Unfortunately, I think that the question is misplaced a bit as your case appears to be the health of your rather external HARD drive that a specific problem related to Linux.

To add clips, if the tools you use have failed to fix your drive, then I do not think that a user 'normal' forum will no longer.
I know it's a fine recommendation and probably just add salt in your wounds: If you really care for files, do a sector backup before doing any file system / partition own modifications.
The reason is very simple - if the tool you use has made a mistake when judging what actions are the right ones, and submit these changes, you move your goal - and fast!
Instead of repairing, the tool can simply corrupt data even further.
Any subsequent change aggravates the disorder exponentially.

Judging by the details in your message, I'm sorry to say that I think your drive is defective, or at least the data is lost.
Of course some companies will probably be able to restore it, but that normally costs a fortune.

Unless you are willing to spend astronomical amounts of money on data rescue, so I suggest to accept data loss and look at what you can do with the HARD drive.
Try to format. No problem, this indicates the drive is defective and must be replaced.

    Sorry for so little help.

Hard drives don't need to be 'cleaned' to be reused.  All you have to do is remove the files them is more sought after.

There are procedures that you can use if you are concerned about a person to recover deleted information (for example, if you sell or give a hard drive - usually as part of a computer), but otherwise, you do not need to do anything special.

No, you cannot format a disk not partially.  But you can create "partitions" on a single hard drive and format each partition separately.  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309000 -

Basic disk storage supports disks with partition. A basic disk is a physical disk that contains primary partitions, extended partitions, or logical drives. Partitions and logical drives on basic disks are also called basic volumes. You can create up to four primary partitions, or three primary partitions and an extended partition with logical drives.

No, you can't format the C: drive and maintain the operating system (assuming C: location of the operating system).

If you do not use 'Quick format' (which omits the analysis of bad sectors), a 3 TB drive will probably take a night or more to fit.  You must make at least a full format on a drive not used to check for bad sectors; After that, you can use the quick format. http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/302686 however, almost any hard drive you buy these days will come already formatted.  The only reason for re - format would be to change the file system (for example, from FAT32 to NTFS).

  • Lose my ethernet internet connection when the computer goes into mode 'sleep '.

    I have a desktop with Windows Vista.  I have my internet through a cable company.  I've never had problems of connectivity for 2 years and then out of no where he would pass the signal after mode 'sleep'.  I had the cable company come out and check on all equipment and it's good that now, I'm still clueless and confused.  The connection icon have an exclamation point in a yellow triangle and say "limited connectivity" and «identify...» "and then I click on Local area connection status and make a diagnostic test that will get me connected to"network 2 "until it goes into sleep mode and then the process repeats.  It's boring say the least.  When I login and go to the LAKE State he says;

    IPv4 connectivity: Internet

    IPv6 connectivity: limited

    Media state: enabled

    Duration:

    Speed: 100.0 Mbps

He said that the issue is resolved after each diagnostic test, but then it happens again.  I need some help pleaseeee!

    > I need some help pleaseeee!

But you're in the wrong group! It is a problem with your network driver
or your Windows installation. You have this repost to a suitable for Windows Vista
Forum. It is possible that a newer driver from the network has a problem with sleep
mode, you should try another pilot (older or newer).
From your description, there is a problem to renew the lease of your
DHCP server (which must be running on your router), it does not use the
IP address assigned earlier or he does not do / IP address (which
should be the same) we get the router. It is also possible that the
problem is with the router or a new firmware on this subject. You should study
These two avenues, including a replacement of the router and firmware.
Another very simple solution is to configure your PC for a static IP number and
leave it like that. In the forum, I mentioned, people will be able to talk to you
through this option if you don't know how to do this.

  • Connection drive external hard am.

    Hello world
I wonder if it is possible to connect the drive external hard am to z3?
In the light of others do it on the other android device. Got an otg cable, plugged my HDD but the phone is not supported it or I'm doing something wrong.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Yes, you can check what file system that is used if you connect to a PC, right-click on the drive in the Solution Explorer and select Properties.

It is possible to convert NTFS to FAT without deleting all data, but I do it without the first run a backup in case something goes wrong. And if you have files bigger than 4 GB it will be problems with these as FAT32 does not support that. exFAT supports, but I didn't know of any tool that can convert NTFS to exFAT without wiping the drive.

  • Historical files Windows 8 will not recognize the new external hard drive

I just bought a new laptop (Sony Vaio) with Windows 8Pro (System op 64-bit, Intel I7, 1THD).  One of the reasons is that I have approached Win8, is I liked the concept of the new 'File History' backup utility  I started to use the computer with an ext WD My Guide of the HD and the history of the files seemed to work.  Then the drive external hard went wrong and I just bought a new WD My Passport 2 t ext HD.  Historical files will not recognize this drive.  He keeps asking the old drive.  When I attached the new drive and go to the screen "Select drive", it says "no usable drives are detected.  Please connect a drive... "I know that the drive is there because I see under 'My computer' and I can copy files to it.  But the history of the files do not recognize.  WD, I called and they helped me to update drivers and even made a update firmware on the drive, but nothing is done.  I tried several fixes suggested in a few links Microsoft 'how file history works... '. «, «What to do if the file history works more...» ", etc, but all without success. The tech also remote BestBuy Geek squad my computer and tried EVERYTHING and could not get it to succeed.  BTW, it's not the HD post because put us on another computer to WIN 8 and Hx file found immediately.  Tech people thought that it was a deep registry with Win 8 problem and their only suggestion was to reimage my computer with the original recovery disk.  But who is going to cost me an arm and a leg.

I'm not very tech savvy, so I know there must be something very simple, I'm do wrong or overlooking and I hope that some dear soul on this forum or someone from Microsoft can give me an idea or two.  Thank you very much

I was having this same problem, but then noticed a presentation text easy to miss in the historical files tool that says that the disc "cannot be a part of a library" or something like that. In my case, I had files on my external hard drive that have been included in several libraries... and none that I really used, so I removed the files (and deleted the libraries for good measure). A fast system restart later, and my player does not appear.

I don't know why MS did not propose it again for this thread as the more obvious thing to check, but there you have it. Something simple and quick to check that could save you some frustration.

  • Cannot access the files from the internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead

I can't access the files from an internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead. I think that my files are still there, as shown in the volume of the player volume ~ 500 gb which is almost completely full. But I can't access most files, including documents and settings. When I took 'ownership' of the folder, I could open the TI but then it showed everything that was in my documents and settings on the computer file I used to open it, not the documents of the car.

Uhm... I think the issue here is a misunderstanding of what you watch.

If you want to access your files from the old hard drive - you need to look in the right place.  If the old system was "Windows 7", "Documents and Settings" is the * wrong * place to look and "Users" would be the place to go.

You * will * take ownership and change permissions on ALL (you want to propagate to all subfolders/files when do - to save time) in order to get them properly.

New-->: Windows Vista/7 would have your files located in the directory 'Users' of the root of the drive - and then under your username.

    • \USERS\\Desktop\
    • \USERS\\Downloads\
    • \USERS\\Favorites\
    • \USERS\\Documents\
    • \USERS\\Music\
    • \USERS\\Pictures\
    • \USERS\\Videos\

    ... etc...

Documents and settings to WIndows Vista/Windows 7 is a symbolic link and would lead to what you see if you tried to use it.

  • Satellite A200-1If - drive external HARD after a while is "unknown device".

    Hello!

I have such a problem: I work with my external case alu Toshiba 3.5 HDD 500 GB and after awhile of copy of the files in the laptop it disappears and appears this luckily device recognized.
Can it be caused by not enough power in the USB port?

THX for any help or the workaround

    Hello

Yes, this may be caused by the fact, there is not enough power provided by the USB port. first of all, note that external USB hard drives 3.5 inches are generally designed to be used with systems of office due to their higher power needs (this is also the reason that many need an external power supply of their own). my suggestion would be to buy a 2.5 inch drive external hard USB is designed to be used with laptops. Another reason that the hard drive may disappear when copying files, is that there may be a problem with the connection of the USB cable between the laptop and the external HARD drive. I suggest to check that both ends are connected properly and not put any pressure on the cables and keep them stable.

I hope this helps you with your question

  • Cannot access the PX1396E external HARD disk

Just bought this external hard drive 1 TB.
I Plug and Windows (xp) it detects and installs the drivers, or something.

When I click on it for the Explorer, it says please insert disk into drive X.
I plugged on 3 computers in different and same problem.

I tried looking for specific drivers, but it doesn't seem to be any, not even in the toshiba Web site.
    What's up, anyone know?

    Thank you.

    Hello!

    > but is not recognized PPP
Can you please explain this? It is unclear to me.

But if the disc external HARD only on a laptop computer does not contact the other laptop manufacturing. Maybe the chipset driver needs to be updated or it s mainboard issue.

As floh_1 said, you can try another cable. It s worth a try! ;)

  • Drive external HARD encrypted in ExFat?

    Hello

I have a new drive external HARD I need to use on a Mac and a PC. I need to access the same files (data analytics), so I don't want to make 2 partitions and have duplicate files. What I've read, it seems that ExFat is the best option for this (they are large files, so that the FAT will not work). My work, however, requires external hard drives to encrypt. When I tried to put it on my MacBook Pro (El Capitan), however, I received an error.

My question is this: is there a way to meet all three of these criteria?

    (1) disk encrypted

    (2) read/write on a mac

    (3) read/write, the same files on a PC

I have a separate HARD disk for Time Machine, I use an airport. This disc will have to travel with me.

    Thanks in advance!

If you were able to encrypt it using the built-in OS x software, Windows would not be able to decipher. If you use a Windows build-in encryption software, OS X would not be able to decipher.

You have to find a 3rd party package that works on BOTH OS X and Windows, which can encrypt and decrypt on both platforms.

In the past, I would have done TruCrypt, however, he was abandoned by unknown original authors, but there have been a few replacements based on the original source of TruCrypt.  Try googling 'TruCrypt Alternatives' and you might find something where they support the OS X and Windows.

Otherwise, you will need to find another cross platform encryption package.

I'm so frustrated.  I recently downloaded my drive external hard music and family video on my new computer on windows media player.  I have literally thousands of songs and it has been downloaded to the C drive, but when I try to play anything, an exclamation point is in front of each song and I am unable to listen to it.   Then a page comes from microsoft about copyrights etc. and tells me to download windows 7 (a dictation of direction page 17), but I have windows 8.  Please help me to release my music that I downloaded from the years of music collection.   Also, if I pick the music on the start menu, in that it sets my X - box and only 5 cd that I downloaded on this computer appear and I can't get out of the Xbox and would like to get out.  Thanks, Rachellynn5555

The message you see seems to indicate that the music is protected against copying and that you can transfer a limited number of times.  This is common for music from many online stores.

    THANK U :)

    Hi the apprentice 85,

Remember to make changes to the computer before that happened?

Looks like the problem is hardware or software related, I suggest you follow the below mentioned steps below to refine the question

Step 1: Disconnect all external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) readers, etc...)  Except the keyboard and mouse and then start.

If this solves the problem, then add back devices at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue.  Then get any drivers\software update for the device.

Step 2: Put the computer to boot to determine which program is causing the problem

Follow step 1 in the link below,

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.

After find you the program that is causing the problem, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program, if you rarely use that you should consider uninstalling the software.

Important: n ' forget not the computer to start normal follow step 7 in the link.
