Mac for Windows and files ._name

Someone at - it an answer to this? :

I just delivered a customer with a commands of Illustrator (and other) files that I made on my Mac.

When he opens the files, he sees a lot of what appear to be ghosts files, which all have ._prefixes.

Normal files are also there and work OK but the ._files seem to be of no use.

What are these files and can they be deleted safely?

Yes, they can be removed. These are resource files that contain metadata and possibly the thumbnails/icons, which allows to save on non - HFS file systems a Mac in order to keep the magic. It's a simple technical thing in the functioning of the file systems differently.
