maximum configuration - standard vmnic by vSwitch?

Hell, all. I am a student at PCC 5.5 and came up with a question for which I can't find the answer. The maximum of an ESXi host in 5.5 configuration are 24 gig of a natachasery, or 8 gig of ten natachasery. But is there a limit by vSwitch?

In my virtual laboratory using 10 Workstation and ESXi 5.5, I put only 10 e1000 NIC on a virtual machine unique and the GUI Client I could attach all 10 to vSwitch0. But is there an upper limit, other than the limits by host?

I found this old reference to a limitation

page 11 has the info about the limitation of the uplinks by virtual switch.

  • VSAN in nested environment – maximum configuration

    Hello

    I used vSphere 5.5 U2.

    According to the maximum of Maximums, components Configuration Guide for each host VSANS are 3000.

    However, I was building VSANS in nested environment, and I checked the number of component.

    In nested_vsan.log, it seems that the maximum components for each host VSANS are 1500.

    Why?

    Maximum components per host VSAN change material?

    Thank you

    The amount of memory available on each ESXi host plays in the total number of supported components. In light of these are 'virtual' ESXi servers, they are probably configured with a memory of the minimum quantity and thus the numbers will be different from the maximum support that is 3000.

  • A script that removes vmnic vswitch?

    I can only find escli allows to remove a vmnic a vswitch?

    esxcfg-vswitch - U < vmnic > < vSwitch > #unlink an uplink
    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1008127

    Is this possible in powershell?

    I want to remove a vmnic vswitch, who have no status report.

    This is because the vswitch for the virtual machine has 2 x quad portcards, but only 4 uplink adapters are physical patched.

    Thank you very much

    To remove a vmnic that are not physically connected, each vSwitch on a host, you could do something like this

    $esx = Get-VMHost MyESXServer $notConnected = $esx.ExtensionData.Config.Network.Pnic | where {!$_.LinkSpeed} | %{$_.Device}
    Get-VirtualSwitch -VMHost $esx | %{
        $connectedNic = $_.Nic | where {$notConnected -notcontains $_} | %{$_}
        if($connectedNic.Count -ne $_.Nic.Count){
            Set-VirtualSwitch -VirtualSwitch $_ -Nic $connectedNic    }
    }

  • Standard switch DV Switch migration

    Hello the heroes of VMware.

    I intend to convert networking virtual switch to standard dv switch in my company in the context of ESX 4.1 to 5.5 upgrade infrastructure. We have about 160 guests and virtual 2000 computers in this project. From now on, we have rebuilt most of the hosts to 5.5 (dint want to upgrade, coz of the limitations of space on the startup of the Bank directory). Currently, we have created standard switches with the same configurations hosts 4.1.

    The standard configuration is like this, vswitches 2. 1 for management and vmotion with 2 physical links.

    2nd is for virtual machines with 4 X 1 gig nics. We are not view our uplinks, as we do not have virtual connect for our hp blades.

    We did an analysis, and most of VLANS match through consolidation.  So we need 2 dv switches to 160 guests, one for the IPC and the other is for production.

    Now us created these dv switches and added guests, but haven't removed rising standard switch, since the use of the network is quite high. Also, we cannot accommodate VMs downtime, but we can afford downtime of host (per host at a time).

    As the migration of port groups will migrate all virtual machines on this group of ports from one switch to another, if we do that, we have the same number of uplinks on vds as with vss to carry the load.

    Having said all that, can anyone give us some valuable tips on how to solve this problem and move to vds.

    Thank you.

    Thor.

    To add more worries, vMotion will not VSS for VDS support (correct me if I'm wrong), which excludes the issue of putting a host into maintenance mode, remove all top links from VSS and link them to the VDS and replace the virtual machines on the host.

    vMotion traffic itself does not care, but the workflow of migration requires the machine network virtual source is available on the destination host. It seems that you are due for 10 GbE cards to help face the apparent flood of network traffic.

    To be fair, moving around the virtual machine networks is a rather low-risk. If you plan not to move the vmkernel interfaces, which said you are on a completely different vSwitch, it's really just a matter of ensuring that your VDS is configured with the appropriate uplink slots and groups of ports. You can start a workflow of migration to move physical uplink (vmnic) and the virtual machines at the same time. To test this, you can migrate virtual machines on a host, run a few test VMs and try it.

  • VMware switch Vlan configuration

    It is possible to switch the configuration that resembles a vmware

    interface GigabitEthernet0/4

    Description calculate node 1 eth1

    switchport trunk vlan 100 native

    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

    switchport trunk allowed vlan 100, 101 102

    switchport mode trunk

    spanning tree portfast trunk

    on the gigabitEthernet 0/4, I have a linux machine that needs these config.

    Thank you!

    Ah, very good. Sorry for my confusion!

    Yes, you can do it.

    interface GigabitEthernet0/4

    Understand and document how the switchport is connected to your ESXi host.  When you start, your ESXi host lists its physical network cards, called vmnic.  Enable CDP on your vSwitches (or LLDP if you use a vDS) so that you know how your ESXi host connects to the North.

    Description calculate node 1 eth1

    You cannot configure the descriptions on vSwitches Standard (you * can * configure them on a vDS). You can also, of course, port name groups however you like, with a few caveats.

    switchport trunk vlan 100 native

    The virtual switches VMware isn't exactly the notion of VLAN native.  If you want to leave the untagged packets ESXi host, you don't assign just one VLAN to that particular port group.

    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

    VMware only use 802. 1 q of marking.  There is no need to explicitly configure.  In addition, you can't.

    switchport trunk allowed vlan 100, 101 102

    Create a VLAN that you like on the ESXi hosts using the parameters of port group VLAN.  Don't forget not to set up a local VIRTUAL network for the port group that hosts the VLAN native.

    switchport mode trunk

    ESXi hosts accept several VLANs on a vmnic out of the box.  There is no need to configure.

    spanning tree portfast trunk

    This option isn't strictly for switching equipment, end-hosts as ESXi.  Your ports ESXi NIC will come as soon as possible.

  • Add vmnic puts it in standby mode

    I noticed that when I run esxcli standard vswitch network uplink add u < nic > - v < vSwitch it always seems to add the NIC in standby mode

    I know that I could then simply configure the group policy for the port but then I'll have to do this for each group of ports on this vSwitch on each host.

    Is there a way just to have the vmnic added to active immediately the bat?

    Not in a single command. What you can do is to retrieve the policy current failover to help

    standard policy failover vswitch network get - v

    and then set the active adapers help

    the value of standard network vswitch political failover - v - a vmnic0, vmnic1...

    This will add the new vmnic active on the vSwitch adapters as well as port groups for which you didn't replace the order of failover vSwitch.

  • Bidirectional RS configuration

    Hi all

    We want to install SRM in a two-way configuration.

    We have two data centers with a box of EMC VNX 5500 (active - passive configuration, synchronous replication). We have a cluster of ESXi 5.0 with 5 guests in each data center.
    Each VNX box is home to half of all VM. If no primary and secondary data centers but both are equal.
    All virtual machines are replicated primary LUN in the data center 'home' to secondary LUN in the other datacenter.
    A selection of VM (not all) s must be protected.
    We have extended the VLAN in data centers and the same vSwitch configuration & standard portgroup on all hosts.
    What is the best way to configure network mappings without messing up the production environment during the test stimulus plans?

    Any help would be much appreciated

    It can be anything: on vSS same / separate / vDS, there may be some uplinks or be internal only.

    It depends on the topology of your network and what you want to achieve during the failover test.

    If you want to create on production vSwitch, then make sure that there no uplinks, if not during the test VMs will interfere with production.

    Michael.

    All,

    I installed oracle bi application for 11.1.1.7.1 AIX 7.1 server. My process of BI applications configuration is to launch a mistake in the part configuration ODI.  Detailed error is pasted below. I perform software only installation as with AIX, you must select Install only software for OBIEE and OLIVIER and configure BIAPPS later.

    I saw two others archived son who discusses this error, and it seems that it is events expected for deployments of AIX error. And both of them say that it is ok to continue the Setup process and make this ODI configuration for later.

    However, the instructions on how to do this from one of the thread is fragmentary or incomplete. If you guys have run into that, can you please guide on how you have been able to solve this problem? The location for 2 OTN discussion is stuck here as well.

    So, that's what we were doing to solve this problem:

    1 let the Configuration process continue with the error. All other tasks should complete successfully.

    2. install the ODI studio on a client computer, WIndows/Linux.

    3. manually the program installation/editing file server and data server technology tab.
