may be at risk

I am so sick to see a pop-up of my taskbar after a restart, saying that your computer may be at risk. And I also have a larger icon which is red in the task bar when you click on it, open my Security Essentials which, for some reason, is shown as Off. so I click on start now and it starts and then I have to wait while it seeks new definitions, which it has since I was using just my pc there are moments or last night. Sick of it! Sick of it! I have the latest version of Security Essentials, as it was installed just last week and I get daily updates automatically from Windows Update with settings that can be found on this pc.

It could be due to the delay of the departure to the top. Try to do defragnment and clean uninstall programs that you do not want.

  • Installation of legacy Java SE 6 runtime (in order to use Adobe CS5) poses a real risk to safety?

After the installation of El Capitan, I was prompted to install legacy Java SE 6 to use CS5 applications. I did and CS5 runs.

My problem is that I have recently become much more security conscious and have read that running Java may pose security risks to my Macbook, and moreover I read on some cases of serious nuisance exploits targeting older versions of Java in recent years that made me uncomfortable.

I also, despite the presence of Java 6 installed, can't see a preference pane in my settings or any mention of Java in my applications > Utilities folder... don't know if this is normal or not.

Running Java 6 on my Mac in fact present security risks? Is there anything else I should look out for? Looking for advice please.

It is not a Prefpane system for Java 6. In the Terminal, type

    Java - v

and it must respond with what version is installed.

Apple does not update to Java 6, so there's always a chance, there's a vulnerability that has not been set. You must disable Java plug-in in your browser (no JavaScript). The browser plug-in was what was intended.

  • Well, it happened again. 40.0 upgrade disabled a bunch of Add-ons including Dashlane. I'll be out of Chrome at least until these problems are resolved.

Upgrading 40.0 off an unusual number of Add-ons. On my browser, they are
    Bing
    Faster search
    NoScript
    Desktop Launcher
    Qualsys browser Check
    Readability
    Skype Click-to-Call
    WebRank SEO Toolbar
    Extension of filtering Webroot

If I understand correctly, I have to communicate with each of the producers asking them to restore their check Firefox Add-on.
Instead, I'll do what I've done in the past and go to Chrome. This deactivation has strongly influenced my browsing experience,
especially for businesses. Firefox is the only browser I have encountered which disables modules and extensions almost all
time, it is updated. I love Firefox but this is getting old. I will seriously consider staying on Chrome.

Two potential problems with 40 Firefox and Add-ons are disabled.

The first is the 'normal' recurring issue where the developer of the defined extension the maxVersion for the commercial version, and Beta is a superior version. IOW, this developer doesn't "support" pre-commercial versions and not a pre-release version such as Beta. Nothing that can be done about it except to use the Release version [currently Firefox 39.0] when using modules that invoke you.
A very limited number of extensions have beta versions available for pre-release versions as beta. and a few even in 'charge' night, WD/Aurora and beta channels.
In addition, if an extension is created with binary components, it must be "transferred" correctly or it is automatically disabled and requires an update to install. Mozilla is very strict with binary components into modules, which some browsers do not allow to be installed at all. Binary components may pose a risk to security, so Mozilla rigor.

The 2nd question can involve the signing of the Extension.
    https://blog.Mozilla.org/addons/2015/02/10/extension-signing-safer-experience/
This could well have been postponed to 41 of Firefox.
    https://wiki.Mozilla.org/addons/Extension_Signing
Currently I'm not under a Beta version on this PC, so I have no first-hand knowledge of what is happening on the beta channel.

Take a look at all: addons and see if any of these disabled extensions see the -signed which is how you can tell if a p [joint extension is signed or not.
For some reason any NoScript seems to be one of a few very popular extensions that are hosted on the Addons.Mozilla.org website which is still "-signed", which surprises me. The only one I on 21 total of extensions which is hosted at AMO which is has not been "updated" for the signature of the Extension for now. Other extensions you mentioned, I do not think are available from AMO and I didn't need them, so I don't know if any of those who have been 'signed' yet or not.

  • Black window bugs and crashes and falls down, and WHAT's the PROBLEM?

First of all, I thought the problem was that my employer still uses Windows XP, with layers of custom on top security. But it happens at home, on my netbook XP vanilla.

So I thought that the problem was of XP, which is, after all, obsolete. But now it happens on my brand new laptop weeks running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.

    Here are the problems:
    (1) for the recovery of the standby mode or when I plug it on a second monitor, or even just to have the display closed briefly, Firefox fails to redraw the contents of the window. I just get a black window empty until I have resize or force a refresh. NO OTHER PROGRAM I USE HAS THIS PROBLEM.

    (2) Firefox sometimes do not redraw little matter what I do. I just had a completely black window, and when I clicked on the close box, a msgbox jumped up, completely black inside, with a title like: "are you sure you want to close? I could not see even the 'yes' and 'No' buttons, and clicking on where they are usually did not work. I ended up closing by pressing the Enter key.

    (3) sometimes these problems are accompanied by a small vestigial micro-fenetre, which has no content, no close button and no control resizing. Is this nothing window with no title, but the title bar is long enough for characters may 20. The last time this happened to me, nothing window had a cursor flashing text inside, but typing had no effect. The only way to get rid of the micro-fenetre is to close every single instance of Firefox and wait about 20 seconds. Then it disappears on its own. Sometimes it appears on its own without the black screen problem.

    (4) all my favicons disappear when I updated Firefox on my work XP computer, and they refuse to come back, even when I revisit Web sites.

    Computers involved are:
Reference Dell E4200 running Win XP Pro
NetBook Acer One Win XP family
Vostro 3350 running Windows 7 Pro

All 3 computers running Norton Security Suite (The E4200 runs a care company, the other two are conducted in free version of Comcast)
And all 3 computers were connected to a video Displaylink adapter USB (for a 3rd screen) at one time or another, which means that the driver is loaded on all computers, but these problems occur without any external monitor connected at all.
    Everything else is pretty vanilla.

I get these questions every other day or two and it is really starting to annoy me and make me worried that Firefox is unstable, with me afraid that no matter what unsaved work or even data from my hard drive may be at risk.

    Try turning off hardware acceleration.

    • Tools > Options > advanced > General > Browsing: "use hardware acceleration when available.

If disable hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • How can I make use of TC partitions and make sure that the file analysis is on the right partition?  I do not see the partitions that I have done in the Finder, but I can drag and drop the files in the folder 'Data' unique under Finder/Shared/TC.

MacBook Air, OSX 10.10.3, 128 GB; 2 TB Time Capsule ME177LL/A.

Final objective: use Time Capsule as a Time Machine for my MacBook Air and as a storage solution for large files that I don't want permanently on my MacBook Air.

So far, I've implemented the TC and set up Time Machine on the TC.  I was able to create 2 partitions on the TC using disk utility then that TM was a backup and the disk was recognizable in disk utility.

Under Finder/shared, I see the TimeCapsule 'airport', and when I click on it it is a file called "Data".  I was expecting to see my two partitions here.  Under 'Features' is a ' Zissou31 MacBook Air (3)"sparsebundle file and I can also create folders here and drag and drop files on the TC here.  I can see the partitions in disk utility, but how do I see/use the partitions I created in the Finder?

I fear that this may not be set up correctly and I'm either losing on an entire partition I created or these files dragged/dropped may be at risk of overwriting of TimeMachine.  How can I make sure that the file analysis is on the appropriate partition?

I disabled TimeMachine and go back to see if I could 'point' to one of the partitions, but the "Data" folder is the only thing that TimeMachine seen.  How do I point time Machine for one of the partitions?

    Thank you!

In addition, in disk utility, I can see one of the partitions TC is related to the time Machine, indicated by the icon Time Machine green bottom left, but two partitions seem to fall under "Zissou31 of the MacBook Air (3) .sparsebundle.
