McAfee VirusScan more

Just update software McAfee VirusScan Plus 2008. During the installation of McAfee, I was forced to uninstall Spybot Search Destroy & before I could complete the installation again.  The message said that Spybot S & D is not compatible with VirusScan Plus.

Anyone have any experience running on their system? Or was it just the McAfee intimidation tactics to kill free software of their competitor?

Thank you
Ron

  • Can I remove McAfee VirusScan Plus?

I want to use another anti-virus program and have already installed VirusScan more in my veirtual machine. I have looked for ways to uninstall/remove/disable and found nothing. How can I get rid of this program?

McAfee offers a very good Uninstall list of instructions here:

    http://service.McAfee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?ID=TS100507

This should apply to your installation of VirusScan Plus.  The Development tool will be may not be not necessary, but then again it might.  Try it and let us know how you go.

On my Windows XP SP3 computer, I want to uninstall McAfee VirusScan Plus and reinstall because there are errors in the program.  Whenever I have uninstall and then reboot, I get a blue screen with nfts.sys showed that the problem, but with a constantly changing code.  At this point, the computer does not start even in safe mode.  I got my drive C to a backup disk for the computer will once again and uninstalled McAfee several times in different ways, but end up with the same problem.

I ran chkdsk a couple of times and it fixes it says, they were mistakes.

McAfee said that it is not their problem.

I recommend you perform the clean boot and check the issue.

Configuration of your system in a clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

  • McAfee VirsuScan & Microsoft Security Essentials - that both are necessary?

I just MSE on my new computer.  It is installed and running.

I have a subscription with McAfee VirusScan Plus.

I understand the need for Antivirus software.

I don't want problems of 'conflict', and I of is not to have more things that I really need to be 'safe' (a relative term).

Do I have the McAfee and MSE work together on the same computer?

Which leads to my basic question:

Should I also install McAfee VirusScan more in addition to MSE?

    Thank you

    Hello

You must have a program of security/antivirus on the computer even if it is not running
or used, because they will always load parts of themselves in memory. Even the remains of those
    uninstalled can cause strange problems.

Frankly I uninstall McAfee and run his removal tool to avoid problems causing leftovers
    left behind.

    ------------------------------

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
    Operation of the network.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 5.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 5.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/   <-->
    http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp  <-->

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • Fusion 3 vs 3 Fusion lite

What is Fusion 3 lite? I am presented with the option to download 3 Fusion or Fusion 3 lite. However, I can't find any information on what is Fusion 3 lite. Understand Antivirus? Does not provide support for games? I'm shocked, that VMware Fusion site does not have a product comparison chart.

In Fusion 3, the difference is what packages are installed by default. If you do something that requires a package, you do not have, Fusion will ask and then download the perl package, so you don't lose any functionality by using the light version.

  • Restart after that a windows update problem with VirusScan from McAfee (total Protection)

    I'm under 64-bit Windows VISTA Home Premium SP 1 on a Dell Studio 540 desktop.  8.0 GB RAM.  Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 CPU @ 2 .66GHz.
Late last night, I started the PC to go online.  Shortly after, I was invited by Windows update to restart.  So I closed off everything and rebooted, except that I kept scheduled analysis of McAfee, which I set up for Fridays.  I have McAfee Total Protection, which includes VirusScan.  That the PC would shut down, there was a message on the screen of McAfee who said, essentially, stop this scan before restarting.  I'm paraphrasing - I didn't write down the exact message.  After reboot, I started again the background anti-virus scanning.  After a few minutes, I received the following message:
    Microsoft Windows
Order McAfee VirusScan Scan - Are asked to work and was closed. A problem with the application to stop functioning properly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.
I have not received a solution of Windows.  I completely uninstalled McAfee Total Protection, following the instructions of McAfee, then reinstalled.  Everything went very well with these processes.  I have yet to receive an indication of the McAfee software that something is wrong.  After the reinstallation, I tried a scan, but got the same error message as above after a few minutes.  It does not occur immediately, analysis continues for about 5 minutes, then abandoned.
Chatted with Dell today.  They suggested a system restore, I will try then.

    What updates have been installed?

During certain infections that are designed to defeat security software will cause the bomb on analyses with an error.

I also suggest you contact the McAfee Support since it is their product which blocks.  http://service.McAfee.com/TechSupportHome.aspx?LC=1033&SG=TS

  • I NEED MCAFEE HELP PLEASE!

I'm new to the community and I do not know if this the right place to ask my question, but here goes. I recently bought a dell inspiron 530 with pre-installed mcafee. I get a message that says that my computer is not fully protected. It is said that my email, IM, computer and the files are not protected. The reason he gave is that my detection signature file is more than 30 days old. When I click on the button repair, nothing happens. I talked to the people of mcafee and they told me to uninstall and then reinstall. However, because I already bought only installed applications will be returned to my computer. The terms of subscription should be added by dell that will cost me money for doing this. Can someone help me first? I would like for the dell my last resort solution.

Hi smiley76 and welcome to the DCF.

    Try this first:

Start in Safe Mode by pressing F8 when starting upwards.
Follow the path - Start-computer------C:-Program Files-McAfee-VirusScan------ DAT and delete the content of the record DAT , not the folder itself.

Restart. Ignore warnings that Security Center may vomit.
Wait a minute and if the update does not start automatically, right-click on the taskbar icon and select updates.

Let it do its thing and when finished the problem should be solved.

If you are not sure of the any instructions above, please let me know.

Please keep your answers related to this problem in this thread so as to not confuse.

  • How can I resolve conflict with Thunderbird and my ISP (Shaw.ca) provided McAfee?

When "Real-time scanner" is on, Thunderbird goes to "not responding" for a minute or two and often goes to 100% CPU usage. If I disable "Real-time scanning" TB seems to work very well, but I think I'm vulnerable to viruses. This problem is going on for a few weeks.

I used to use "Avira" without any problem, but McAfee is provided 'free' for subscribers.

I saw a report here today of someone who got a chat session with McAfee support and they have "changed some settings" and everything is Ok now. Then I suggest that you contact McAfee for more of the same.

Can someone please help - I just spent 5 1/2 hours chatting with McAfee, then more with Microsoft but not just anywhere. I uninstalled and I try to reinstall McAfee Total Protection. However, when you try to download the software, I get the blue screen stop. McAfee could not solve (registry cleaning, removing all signs of McAfee). We found an error in the Event Viewer System (but that was dated after the first couple of blue screens and after that McAfee has tried to "fix" the problem. McAfee then asked me to ask Microsoft to try to resolve the problem. I get the following message is displayed:
