Component Firmware Intel management engine (ME) (American International)

    11.0.0.1194 Rev.A
    December 1, 2015

We bought 5 of these laptops for our Engineering Department and I was against a tight schedule to get them deployed (the next day). I started working on obtaining a set of installation with the necessary software and then I just want to clone one for the other 5.

I did a clean install of Windows 10 and installed all the drivers from the HP site. Then I ran Windows updates until everything is up-to-date. I disabled Windows Defender. Now all that remained was update the firmware BIOS, Intel ME and Thunderbolt using the downloaded utilities since the page drivers. The BIOS installed fine, but it's a really weird update process. Due to the beeps and lights blink during his work. There is no progress bar to let you know if she is doing anything. At some point, as the beeping stop but it's still really work. Then he starts and updates another part of the system and so on. Anyway, that everything worked fine. No problem with the update and Windows 10.

So I ran the update of the Firmware of Thunderbolt and open up a command window saying that it couldn't find the controller. It looks like not there nothing after that point and just closed.

Finally, I ran the Intel Management Engine firmware update utility. He opens a command window and says that it is loading the file and check and so on. Then he wrote the Flash file and takes a minute or two, doing so. Once it's done, the firm order window and back to business as usual... until you restart. Once you do this, the system is toast. It does not start. Black screen, fans run at high speed and the CapsLock and NumLock bulbs only 5 slow flashes indicating that there is something wrong with the motherboard. I'm starting a supported by HP chat session.

I am told to disconnect the battery. To access the battery, you need a bit T - 8 Torx and you unscrew 11 screws to remove the grill cover and low fan (pedestal). I did that and disconnected from the battery. Reconnect after a few minutes and tried to start. Nothing, same thing. The support agent told me that a technician on site should be sent to replace the motherboard.

While the lower lid has been opened, I noticed that there are two small LED lights near the SSD. There are supposed to be the diagnostic lights and I found an article in the service manual indicates if one of the LEDs is lit, the motherboard should be replaced. This lights a few seconds after the connection of the power supply for the laptop or by pressing the power button.

I asked the support agent if they knew why it happened, but they did not know.

So, I got 4 portable more to work with. I took off the dead laptop SSD and put a charge in a brand new out of the box. Started by and on the desktop Windows 10. This laptop had BIOS v1.03 on this subject so I ran the BIOS updated and rebooted. All right. At this stage I myself asked to perform other upgrades of the firmware or not. I thought that I had a 50/50 chance and I'm the kind of person that simply be whether it was a fluke or if there really was something seriously wrong with the update of the Intel ME firmware. He ran while first instead of love at first sight to date. Update Intel did ME the same thing before, opened a window to order, checked and then flashed... and after a reboot I got another laptop dead.

At this point, I shook my head and frowned, looking at the HP logo.

I tried calling support, but their laptop zbook/computer service has been closed from 10 is no support by phone or chat support. I have to wait until the morning to make a call in warranty for this second laptop dead.

The Intel ME firmware update released on download of HP ZBook Studio G3 section was not compatible with these laptops and caused the laptop no longer starts. Only an exchange of motherboard could solve the problem. HP since then changed the link to the Intel ME firmware update for the appropriate softpaq.

Those who had run the update of the bad firmware and their laptop brick had to call the HP technical support to schedule a replacement motherboard on the spot.

  • Add new Member and firmware update

    Hello

I have a group of 4 bays Equallogic

    1xPS4000 (Type: 70-0120) and

    3xPS6100 (Type: 70-0400)

    They all firmware v6.0.4

The new table is a PS6210XV. I'm sure that the firmware of it's newer probably with a release v7.x.

The documentation for the firmware update, it says that I have to upgrade all the tables on my group first, and then add the new group.

I was hoping to add the new table and move some of the volumes to that one, update a table that I emptied, add back to the pool, empty one another etc etc.

    Is this possible?

It is really not a good idea to do so.   In place upgrade is by far the best option.  If you have defined your timeout of 60 seconds and choose a period of quierter I/O, that there should be no problem.  Also, be ready for an upgrade means that be ablel to handle a failure of the controller in the case of a real problem of HW.

First, if.  You need TO upgrade the new Member and all members of 6.0.x to 7.0.9.   The new table will come with 7.0.x since it is the minimum version for this controller.  Upgrade to 7.0.9 as well.  Create a new pool for this member and do not set the RAID policy yet.  Do not enable the iSCSI 2nd course interface.

What disks you have in the existing tables?

    You run VMware ESXi?

  • Question of firmware update hard drives/RAID

We have a Server Power Edge R210II with OS MS Server 2008R2 and a Controller PERC H200 RAID (two disc HARD 1 TB Seagate SATA in RAID1).
Recently, there is a new firmware for Seagate drives on a dell (Package update for MS Windows) support site.
I really don't want to lose the server :) and never update firmware on the disks on the server with RAID (I've updated the players only on PC).
Can someone tell me a procedure to update the firmware on my drives? Problems with the upgrade, best practices etc?
    Thanks for any help,
    Marius

    Best practices:

    • First have a backup. Should data not destructive, but everything can happen.
    • Use SUU or Repository Manager to update ALL of your system - iDRAC/BIOS firmware, PERC and other firmware must be updated before the firmware of the HARD drive.

Most HARD drive firmware updates are bootable, so you just get the utility boot and update.

You cannot update firmware of the drive not Dell with Dell firmware (i.e. If you bought the retail/generic readers).

Even if we have not seen all the failures, we started to test the firmware update (3.02) and it completely bombed our 1st server. It is stuck at the STATION.  We had the Linux guys perform the upgrade on server here and although it seems to have successfully applied, the version of the firmware never changed to 3.02. We have a box to open with HP and are waiting for your comments, but in the meantime, I wanted to see if someone else has eliminated this FW update to their servers ESXi5.5 Gen9 with Smart Array controller.

    Any comment is appreciated.

    Just a follow-up here...

The issue has been isolated to SmartArray P440 with SAS 12 G expansion card. The patch has been updated the SmartArray both the Expander card firmware at the same time. The only P440 caused our system to not POST firmware update

  • R720 Power Supply firmware update

    Hello

Have problems updating firmware for the block of power SUPPLY (AC) for the R720, tried to get him out of the lifecycle controller and by downloading and running the windows of Win2008 R2 package.

After the installation in both cases, the server off, but does not wake up as advertisied (I waited all night). Without other options, I pressed the power button and the firmware has no upgrade.

I also tried to plug in only 1 power supply with the same result

Any help is appreciated, thanks for reading

    Details on my config:

Older version of the firmware of the power supply: 07.25.7D

    Target firmware viersion: 07.25.7E

Web site to download the Windows version of the firmware update:

    http://www.Dell.com/support/home/HK/en/hkdhs1/drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=4K1PT

    Double power supply

The sticker from dell in the lower right corner:

    Hi thanks for the messages

The problem has disappered by itself, as I have tested earlier firmware has updated successfully (using the windows version)

In the past, it stops after the #7 step. The lifecycle controller showed that it was upgrading firmware, like this:

Subsequently, he stops and never woken up by itself. But this time he's awake to the top and be upgraded successfully

I try to remember what I made after the last time, there is not, in the hope that someone will find it useful:

1 making / removing network trunk (aggregation)

    2. change workgroup name, join a domain

    3. When you run the update, I used the administrator account of the domain instead of the local administrator account

    4 installed Kaspersky KSC

All 4 is apparently not related to the update of the firmware, I also installed & removed openmanage essentials, but do not remember if it is before or after the failure of the last

but since it is updated now, I'm happy

    Thanks for the help

  • H710 PERC (PowerEdge R820) firmware update

    Hello world

    I have a new server PowerEdge R820 and I'm not able to update the firmware of PERC H710 (21.1.0 - 0007, A03) to the latest version 21.2.0 - 0007, A04.

I tried with a key USB bootable with the files BACK to the inside, but just update software says no: "no controller detected."

The server is online since 2 weeks now, so there is no current RAID rebuild and I tried also with PERC H810 firmware, no luck.

    Any advice? Thank you

    Daniele

If the system has access to the internet, reboot the system, press F10 when you are prompted to enter in the life cycle of the controller, then once its there, select Firmware update, exit FTP selected server and proceed from there, its quite intuitive. One of the choices will be updated the H710 controller.

Re: proxy server annoy 7.6.7 update?

  • Wan interrupts the connection after the firmware update

Looks like the latest firmware upgrade is the source of the problems.

I've just updated my timecapsule 1 TB of first generation version 7.6.7 and my 3 TB timecapsule new version 7.7.7

Both are connected to the router of the provider of Internet services and extend the network even in my house.

WiFi is stable until the upgrade, but now the connection is lost every few minutes or seconds.

Both versions are later to the respective timecapsules.

I end up having to downgrade if no solution is found.

I powered the two market still nothing does not. Redefine the network and tried both hidden and not hidden, yet once nothing doesn't.

Any ideas on what is causing the problem?

Well, since nobody seems to have an explanation, and Apple are not out with firmware update after 7.7.7 and 7.6.7 I decided to downgrade the firmware to the previous version. I now run version 7.7.3 on the new 3 Tb Time Capsule and 7.6.3 on the 1st Gen Time Capsule. So far, the network is stable. Using WiFi Explorer Ii see that they use channel 6 and 8 respectively. Signal is strong and no dropouts have taken place so far. Hope the issue is resolved in the next firmware update.

As I read in another post: firmware update does not solve a problem, you didn't. However, it can create a problem that you didn't.

  • TimeCapsule downgrades WiFi 2.4 GHz after applying the firmware update v7.6.7

After applying the firmware update v7.6.7 free WiFi to TimeCapsule is now 2.4 Ghz instead of 5 Ghz.

It was the update of the firmware with certainty that has made this... no doubt about it:

    • My mouse bluetooth interference notice when my MacBook is connected to WiFi 2.4 Ghz;
    • Before the update, everything is OK
    • After updating, my mouse mouse start jittering
    • < alt-click > WiFi icon in the menu bar confirms: the connection is now 2.4 Ghz

Restart to e TM Mo doesn't change anything.

In the TC WiFI options tried to put another name to the network successfully, but only 5 GHz can not connect to it: timeout error every time.

Tried the hard reset of TC and reconfigure the WiFi... the same result, but with a difference:

    • Setting an SSID separated for 5 GHz connection (in the WiFi options) has now created a network I can access.
    • However, this is not the best solution... I don't want 2 SSID.

It is not the first time Apple breaks things with updates... and I see people move away from Apple to this kind of situations.

I also had bad experiences with OS updates lately and postpone the as much as possible.
