Microsoft Word has stopped working.

  • I use floppies for installation of Vista Home Basic Service Pack 2 and Microsoft Works 2000.
  • I installed Word 2000 from disks of Works and Word 2000 works well with Vista.
  • Word has now stopped working, which gives the message: "Microsoft Word for Windows has stopped working. A problem has caused the problem to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. »
  • I understand that this may be a registry problem. I don't trust the scans of the commercial registry and repairs available for download on the internet as I inderstand, they cannot solve the problem and may make things worse.
  • Is re - install Vista the only trustworthy way to repair the registry? Thanks in advance for your solution.

  • Whenever I get close Microsoft Word, it displays a window saying that Microsoft Office Word has stopped working?

All the documents that I close (if it is registered or not, whether it is empty or not) shows an error message saying:

Window with the loading bar appears: header 1 - "ofMicrosoft Office Word has stopped working ", heading 2 - "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem... " "

Changes in wording (remains of load bar): header 1 - "Microsoft Office Word to try to recover your information... ", header 2-"it can take several minutes. "

It takes then about 10 to 20 seconds until the charge bar disappears and the text becomes: header 1 - "Microsoft Office Word has stopped working ", header 2-"a problem caused the program to stop working correctly." ""  Windows will notify you if a solution is available. "

This process happens every time.  Sometimes it restarts the program, and other times it ends just (closed) it.  I don't know if this is related to this bug, but I met another problem that began at the same time as this one:

http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistaperformance/thread/f5e2a747-b429-4d55-8a6b-5d5a9b791dd1 (scroll to the bottom of the page of my post) .  That error is fixed now, but the "Microsoft Office Word has stopped working bug" continues to annoy me.

Could this error be caused by my computer or Microsoft Word?  Does anyone have any information or conclusions of how this error can be fixed?  Is there some registry tweaks which can solve this problem?

    Specifications of the computer:

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium Service Pack 2 (32-bit)

IE and Explorer are closely related, so things that affect one affect both.
