Missing settings Windows Update...

Why did on my installation of Windows 7 Pro, my update settings have these two options (highlighted), but my installation of starter is missing?

Because I do not have these options in the installation of the starter, I'm unable to update Office 2007. I am aware that Starter has some limitations, but not being is not able to update Microsoft products isn't supposed to be one of them. Clues?

Microsoft offers an extension to Windows Update called Microsoft Update. This service allows you to get updates for other Microsoft products, but also to receive notifications of new Microsoft software that you can download and install for free. Here's how to get updates and new software reviews:

1. open Windows Update by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Update, and then in the list of results, click Windows Update.

2. If you've never checked for updates before, in the left pane, click find updates. Wait WindowsUpdate complete updates.

3. in the Windows Update dialog box, click learn more under updates for other Microsoft products. Follow the steps on the screen to start to use Microsoft Update.

4. in the left pane, click change settings.

5. under Microsoft Update, select the check box give me updates for Microsoft products and looking for new optional Microsoft software when I update Windows .

6. If you want to get notifications of new Microsoft software, select the check box Show me detailed notifications when new Microsoft software is available .

7. click on OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • tbssvc.dll missing after Windows Update

    Hello

Everyone has noticed that the tbssvc.dll file is deleted after execution of the April "convenience update" of Microsoft?  I have a Windows 7 SP1 x 64 iso and if I run the update of convenience or 200 updates + Windows updates, this file disappears and I have no service TPM Base Services.  Tbs.dll file is there, but has a date of 2016 instead of 2009.

I tried to copy it over from another machine, replace the necessary registry keys for the service and that brings back the service but breaks the Bitlocker feature.  Someone knows how to restore this file, service and have still Bitlocker works or know what Windows Update is causing the file to be deleted?

We found the offending update. Delete KB3133977 restores the TBS service. KB information, it looks like that this update replaces most of the TPM platform. The only missing is visibly tbssvc.dll. I wonder if it is a flaw in the update iteself. The update is listed as important (recommended) and is supposed to instability address in the application of Bitlocker. Not much choice here: instability or a complete failure. Can Microsoft fix this?

  • 8.1 Windows update does not work

I got a new Dell XPS 13 accompanying Windows 8.1.  When I switch on, I get a notification that windows updates are ready to be installed.  When I go into settings/update and recovery/Windows Update I don't see is the symbol of waiting turns little (during business hours).  I recently picked up the subscription to McAfee antivirus that is pre installed on the computer.  When I try and open McAfee Central the same thing happens.  These problems also occur when my McAfee firewall is disabled.  I don't know if these problems are linked

I'm afraid that because updates work not I won't be able to get my Windows 10 upgrade, I booked it some time ago, but as of today I have not received my notification.

How can I fix these problems?

Thanks, I solved the problem myself - the simple solution may be useful to others who have encountered the same failure

First of all, I have disabled the firewall and the fact that it has not been set to turn back when I rebooted.
I restarted and went to settings/windows update/choose how to install the updates.
It has been set to download and install automatically, but of course the downloads were not automatically - installing I've changed that to "download updates, but choose to install" and apply the change. Then I went to "view details" and was able to select all downloads uninstalled, which I did and they have installed.
I then rebooted WARNING none; more updates not installed and began to gain 10 download and install.

  • Network icon is missing from the notification area after the window updated

I have some problems about the notification for the network and the volume icon!
They are missing after the window updates!
I tried to check the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' > 'Notification area', Volume and network are grey which I cannot check these boxes. Grateful if you could help me solve this problem!
    Thank you very much!

    Hi VisBo,

Welcome to the windows vista forums.

Please follow the steps below to resolve this issue:

    1. right click on the taskbar and click Properties.

2 tab Area of Notification .

3 check (on) or disable (off) the options you want or do not want to display on the Taskbar Notification area.

For the network icon, you can also do with the registry.

    NOTE:

Please be careful while making changes to the registry, any undesirable changes can affect your operating system.

    1. click on start.

    2. in the start menu search bar type regedit, and then on enter.

3 Please go to this location in the registry by expanding each location by clicking on the brand more on the left side.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\
    Microsoft\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

    4. remove the keys 'IconStreams' & 'PastIconsStream '.

    5. start the Task Manager by pressing ctrl + alt + delete at the same time.

    6. in the Task Manager right click on explorer.exe and kill the process.

    7. click on applications in the task manage, press new task and type explorer.exe, and then press ENTER.

Explorer will now reboot and your icons should return.

Alternatively, you can try to uninstall the most recent update that has caused the problem. You can uninstall an update by clicking on the icon of the program features in Control Panel. Select the update that caused the problem, and then uninstall it.

You can also make a selection of updates to install by setting the windows updates to notify you before installing an update. To open this Panel, and then click windows updates, click settings.

I hope this information is useful.

Please let us know if you need assistance.

  • Windows updates won't find updates for Office or any other Microsoft programs I installed and there is no option to enable it in Windows Update settings.

OK, so I just had to re - install Windows 7 on my laptop due to a disk failure (Windows 7 Home Premium SP1) and hit a brick wall with trying to turn on Microsoft Updates instead of Windows updates.

I try to click on the link "Learn more" on the bottom of the page to update on the line "Get updates for other products Microsoft." and it opens just a web page with a graphic telling me to open my Start menu and click on Windows updates.

Catch 22 is that Windows Update has no options for anything other than Windows. He won't find the updates for the office or any of the other Microsoft programs I installed and there is no option to enable it in Windows Update settings.

Exactly what I am missing, and where has Microsoft moved the activation of Microsoft Updates page too, because when I click on the link need me to http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en&&thankspage=5 that makes a whole lot of nothing.

    Thank you!

  • Windows 8 "Windows Update" absent from the list of 'change PC settings.

When I first upgraded to Win 7 to Win 8, there was a "Windows Update" entry as last element in "PC settings" when I used the charm of parameters.

    It is more listed.

If I search for Windows Update and click on the tile which is, he spends "PC settings" page but display a "Page not found" error message.

No idea how to solve this problem?

This is the second time it happened to me, the first, I thought that I could of got a virus or something. So I did a refresh and the problem was solved. But I remember correctly install a program the first time (I don't remember the name), and then links to certain parameters were missing.
I know I probably have réactualisiez, because there is no viable solution available at this time. But refreshing should NOT be the solution. Because from what I see, it is not limited to a single program. So it means that the issue could occur for a variety of program installs. It is devastating and it is one will not install anything for fear of the question happening.

I also hesitate to install new programs, as the refreshment of the PC 'solution' is no solution at all and I am less enthusiastic to spend all my time to 'fix' things when they worked perfectly well on Windows 7.

Once again, I think that MS has a major problem here and surprised that it did not fall in beta as most of the things I do on my PC is quite conventional.

I will continue to follow this thread to see if there is any progress or enter additional to help isolate the problem.

I discovered that patches of restoration of windows the problem, better than the discount. But not yet the real difficulty that is needed.
