Hi Forfins,

Not all the video and audio filters that are installed by other programs are compatible with Windows Movie Maker. This can cause problems when you import video and audio, the audio and video preview on the table of storyboard / timeline or publish a movie.

If you have problems that could be associated with video and audio filters not installed by Windows Movie Maker, you can try to turn video filters off in Windows Movie Maker.

1. click on Tools, then Options.

2. click on the Compatibility tab.

3. do one of the following:

    • To turn off a filter, clear the check box next to the name of the video filter.
    • To activate a filter, select the check box next to the name of the video filter.
    • To restore the default list, click restore all defaults.

When you restore the default settings, the list and the filters settings are given to the last known good setting.

For more information, you can consult the following link:

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/video-filters-in-Windows-Movie-Maker-frequently-asked-questions

This can also occur due to codec.

If you have any third-party codecs installed, then try to uninstall them and check.

You can also consult the third-party Web site to download a third-party codec to play the DVD.

Note:  Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk

Hope this has been helpful.

    Hello

    ·        Have you been able to import before avi files to your Windows movie maker and the creation of DVD?

    ·        You are able to import another file without any problem format?

Try to import another file type (format) and check if the problem persists.

    Step 1:

Damaged codec is often a cause of crashes with Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD Maker.

If possible, use a program to convert your Windows Media movies first and then try to import it.

    Step 2:

If the movie maker was working properly before, I suggest you to reset the windows movie maker settings. Follow the steps in the article mentioned below.

  • Windows Movie Maker DVD will not play in my DVD of Emerson drive

Burned DVD won't play in my dvd player. I worked on it for three days. I burned a movie on a dvd + rw disc. The film will play on my computer but won't play in my dvd player. I get "Disk error" on the screen and the disc may not have playback function. What is the function of reading and how I can change my download? I lived all the concepts of self-help, but none of them fit to my problem. I have Windows Vista Premium and have tried using Windows DVD Maker. I called the manufacturer of my drive and they said I need to finalize the disc. How can I do to do this with Windows DVD MAKER?  I read articles about video editing, but when I went through the steps that I wasn't even offered the possibility to publish the video. My brother uses the same discs when burning movies and I have no problem playing his films. What I am doing wrong?

    Hi BrookeMcCulley,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.

On some of the DVD player, you will not be able to play DVD + RW discs.  You will need to use DVD + r (read DVD) drive and check if it works.

You can also try to use another brand of DVD disc and check.

  • Problem with movie maker and edit and remove a superimposed title.

I'm doing a movie with Windows Movie Maker.  I added a title I've superimposed, but do not because it is too much and covers the image.  I tried to remove the title by clicking on the table of the storyboard by clicking edit to remove the title.  It does not remove the title.  I also tried to remove the photo thinking the overlay would remove with the image, but rather the superimposed title passes just to the next image.  I'm frustrated.   Help, please.

I recently returned from a trip with some MP4 videos taken on my new GoPro Hero2. When I play videos in Windows Media Player they are sharp and crisp. • Is thre a way to add menus to the Movie Maker DVD project

original title: menus of dvd movie maker

I have Windows Live Movie Maker Version 22011 Build 15.4.3508.1109.  I really like the menu auto build when burning on a DVD project.  Is there a way to build menus for my movie, when you publish a movie project to a file instead of a DVD?

I also like this feature... Movie Maker is unable to do so directly, but it is easy to have Windows DVD Maker create motion menu and files for you to use in a film project. See this page of my website for details.

  • Is there an EASY way to make a DVD from Movie Maker DVD Maker charged in Windows 8? I'm so disappointed. I did a lot of movies of family vacation and now I'm screwed.

I always did of family films.  In recent years I have very happily used Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD Maker.  But the old computer is dead and now I had to buy one with Windows 8 (boo, hiss).  Breath of this OS.  It is difficult to use, source of confusion, screwed up and above everything else, did NOT create DVD.  "Burn DVD" is more a choice in Movie Maker.  WTF?  How can I make a movie without resorting to downloading some programs by night, that I do not trust.

Yes, well, I did. I did some research and looked at DVD Styler, Nero, VLC, and DVD Shrink. Nothing works. Regarding the DVD Styler, it didn't he download something called 7Zip who then simply sits on the desk until I open it, after which he there just some more showing me a menu that said things like 'computer', 'C' drive and drive "D". I am not techie enough to understand this. I was perfectly happy with the creation of DVD and the choice of "burn a DVD" on Movie Maker. I wish the technies who write such things would realize that most of us did not give a * on the stupid tiles and apps and want just a system that does what we want. As to burn the DVD. sigh.

You then download DVD Styler.  Read the web page and click on in the appropriate places.  ;-)  This is not a technical problem - it is a "slow down and read more carefully ' a.

    Here's the direct link:

Download it, run it to install and installation - do what you might have missed doing on the web page download and READING and CHOOSE wisely.  ;-)
