My dell 1520 very slow dvd burning

Hello!
I don't know what happened,
my dvd burner was ok...
but now I can't burn even 1 dvd
It is verrrrrry slow. more than an hour.
& It still fails in the verification of the data.
I tried nero, roxio... I uninstalled & reinstalled.
but the same problem.
I tried different media...
same thing.
I don't know what happened. perhaps I installed something that has changed something in my settings in vista?
I uninstalled my "daemon tools". but the same problem.
I remember that I installed "macdrive" on my vista (a program). but I uninstalled it for weeks.
why it is burning so slow? (& why it failed in the verification of the data)?
Help

BTW, I searched on the net already & found this DMA issue.
I went to my device manager & under IDE channel I have active dma. If this is not the case:

    Hello

that you have correctly installed all the drivers for this machine? It's really important, because without the correct drivers you won´t be able to get the full potential of your material.

The other thing is, it s always better (especially at these present times) to have a codecpack on the computer installed.

Try this link and install a codecpack for having the latest codecs for video/audio files.

  • Satellite Pro P100-109 is very slow for burning a DVD

    Hello

I'm trying to copy a DVD movie with the pre-installed software RecordNow! but it takes a lot of time.
Something like 40 minutes to copy the DVD to the HD and more than an hour to burn the DVD-R.

    Can someone help me?

    Hello

Do you want to copy the original DVD?
These DVD is usually protected against copying and it's not easy to create a copy of this DVD.

Furthermore the original DVD movies are larger than a DVD 4.7 GB common and, therefore, it of needed to reduce this film.

Then wonder that you use the RecordNow! to copy a DVD movie.

Google a bit and you should find more info and details how to reduce the original common DVD 4.7 GB movie

  • Satellite Pro L20 - slow DVD burning speed

    Hi all

I have a very annoying problem with my optical drive - he writes only CD at 6-8 x and DVD x 2! Nothing more! I have read several forums and it seems I'm not the only one with this problem. Only, it seems that there is no solution for this problem so far. The DVD multi drive is a Matsu * a 841 s UJ and its producer very has no support for this article at all. There is a firmware update available somewhere, I could find, but it only works for Vaio OEM.

Again, I am only interested to release my drive from his normal abilities and not to unlock any area code or other kind. I just want to work to performance, I bought it, that's all.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks to you all.

    Hi Cosmin

You have this problem since the first day? Have you tried using different blank discs? Burning program you use? If you use for example 16 x max CD speed options are listed in the burning application?

  • Very slow DVD recording on my Satellite M30

    Hello

I have a satellite M30 with a burner DVD Teac dv-w28e. Engraving on takes (8 x) DVD 1 hour and a half to 4 GB, even if the burning program indicates the speed is 8 x and the estimated time is 10 minutes.
    So, what's the problem?

    Hello

What burning program did you use?
I prefer to use Nero burning utility. In my opinion, he is one of the best burning tools. You should check if you have this problem with other burning software.
You simulate the burning process or did you burn the DVD without simulate?
As far as I know that some programs simulate firstly the procedure of burning and having well simulate files will be burn on DVD. In this case, the burning process takes much more time.

  • Slow DVD burning on Tecra A9

I found that when burning DVDs my burner works about 1 X I have checked this on the web and found other forums, which suggests to make sure I'm set to DMA if available on the transfer mode.

I have it on the "primary IDE channel" on device 0 transfer mode is set to DMA if available, but below in the "current transfer mode" box it says PIO mode.

on device 1 the transfer mode is set to DMA if available, but the transfer current says modeit is not available.

    Help, please.

    Hello

Have you tried deleting the IDE channels from Device Manager?
Try this. Remove it, and then restart the laptop again!

A friend of mine had a similar problem and the switching mode of the relocation back into DMA Device Manager.

    Good luck

  • slow dvd burning

I have a 1140i burner and it worked great for about a month, but has recently started to read and burn at 2 x max. It was read and burning at 16 x what can I do?

Which, generally, but not alsways indicates that the drive in PIO instead of DMA mode.  You can use this tool to do it for you:

    http://SVP.co.UK/helpdesk/index.php?_m=downloads&_A=viewdownload&downloaditemid=15

Or you can do it manually, see here:

    Just follow the directions.

  • Satellite Pro A100 carpet * dvd uj - 841 s write at very slow speed

    Hello.

The carpet * a dvd multi drive uj - 841 s that came with my satellite pro a100 written on very slow DVD. Firmware 1.50
I use good philips and kodak media (both rated 16 X).

now, I know that the drive is only rated at 8 X max. But I can't even reach 6 X.

A firmware update would solve this?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

To my knowledge, some burning applications control the burning speed to obtain the best possible results from burning
As you probably n t know the speed of combustion higher risk of burn errors
I burn my DVD only using a single 1 x speed.

Then I can be sure that all DVD players would be able to play the burned DVD.

  • DVD burner in the new laptop VERY SLOW - PLDS DVD +-RW OF THE - 8A5HH

I just got a new laptop from Best Buy - Dell Inspiron 3521. There a PLDS DVD +-RW OF THE - 8A5HH drive built in. I tried to burn a data CD, but it failed several times.

I tried these in the file Explorer and CyberMedia Power2Go Burns, also at the Maximum speed or 24 X. It was using both Philips 52 X speed CDR burning failed at the end, when the burner is trying to close the disc. He couldn't complete a burn speed X 10 (very slow) to Power2Go. File Explorer strangled between 7 X and 10 x to be able to burn and did not show a dialog box saying if the burn is complete or not. He left me guessing.

It was after a call to Dell technical support and a trip on the Microsoft Support Site to use their CD - RW test online. He said he updated something, but I don't know what.

I must say it's a disappointment. I think I should have bought a laptop without a burner inside and bought an external burner. At least that way I had have the choice of what I got. This burner is slooowly.

Anyone have any idea if this can be fixed, or is it just a limitation of the burner is in this laptop? If it is material, well I guess you get what you pay for.

Dell phone support fixed it. Went to the Microsoft Support website and ran a convenience store of material for DVD players, who suggested the update of the firmware of the player. He did that, and then we went back and burned a disc in the file Explorer and it worked, but only to 10 X I opened Power2Go and burned a disc at 24 X, and it burned successfully. I didn't actually measure the speed (Power2Go shows you that), but it worked well and quickly. I think that the problem was an outdated firmware for the DVD/CD burner. Flashing to the latest firmware fixed the problem.

I want, I knew that this troubleshooting tool on the Microsoft support site, but now I can not find.

    Hi Gianni,

I use Nero to burn DVDs, and one of the configurable options is the task of "priority". If I set it to 'high' then my phone behaves as you described, that is very slowly. Check if you have you encode/burn too high task priority.

  • Very slow start and run for Dell Inspiron 6400 XP times

"I have a problem with an Inspiron 6400 brought to ' horribly slow start and run time.  XP Pro 32 bit SP3 patched up to date.  Cleaned up a lot of "undesirable", as the partially uninstalled programs, cleaned the files temporary etc. with CCleaner, cleaned and optimized the registry afer all the cleaning has been done, defragmented, tried to start without any of the boot files, disabled all unnecessary services and uninstalled virus checking software, (but ran several anti-virus controls) etc. - no help.   Safe Start Mode is faster, but... not at all normal - 1 1/2 minutes of screen to logon instead of close to 3 minutes.  A lot of memory (2 GB), which rises to 600 to 700 MB runnng all the stuff I've tried.  Hard drive is 1/3 used out of 120 GB with a 2 GB swap file.

One thing I'm still scratching my head over - beyond the horribly slow boot - is very slow access to files even though everything seems to work normally, but as molasses in January.  Looking at the performance of the Task Manager tab when I run a copy of a file (whether via a cmd window or with Windows Explorer), I see a near max processor would be and the other with a small business.  Even if the customer says he had been getting worse for some time, after checking and cleaning of all things 'normal', my next thought was perhaps a bad disk or disk controller driver, but chkdsk ran very well (although it took hours) even if I ' d I have already updated all drivers (and even the DVD firmware and BIOS) on the Dell web site.  Oh, and I ran Dell Diagnostics (from bootable CD) updates all with no errors found.  And access to the slow file even with symptoms had max-processor occur with a copy of the file on a USB key that seems to eliminiate the hard disk, the disk controller and the pilot.

The other interesting part of the display for a file copy task manager is that the processes tab simply shows System Idle 97 to 99%, with a percentage of casual for other processes as Explorer while I see 1 max out procesor on the performance tab.  That the same copy on your desktop shows 3-4% of the CPU usage and who is with active antivirus software.  I'm almost ready to fall toward a Windows reinstall, but would like to find the real reason behind this problem of puzzle...

It of almost as if he's using PIO instead of DMA disk access, but... don't know how/where to test this.

    Look at:
    and

Solved!   Thanks for the links, especially to each other.  An old but still a goodie!

For those who have enquring spirits (and anyone else who stumbles across this thread), the primary IDE controller has been set to PIO and locked it.  Who would have thought that Windows slowly reduced the transfer speed, whenever he saw 6 errors on an IDE device until it has been reduced to PIO and then he locked it?  But the procedures described in the link of winhlp.com showed how to solve the problem.

There are actually several problems that led to the final symptoms.  According to KB817472, the Atapi.sys has been improved in XP SP2 only degrade the speed of transfer on 6 consecutive errors instead of 6 cumulative errors.  And even though everything I have (Microsoft update) was seen and showed that this area was to SP3, I found that the driver for the controller layer IDE was the SP2 version.  Someone ran sfc previously perhaps?

Oh, and I know now that the Task Manager process tab does not time processor kernal, but the performance tab.  Good to know...

Thanks again to all who have responded.  Starting at the time of connection-question now is 40 seconds.   You'll love Untra DMA mode 5.   There is still a lingering question in my mind, since I've had the same symptoms of slow copy of a file on a flash drive.  Perhaps a link in some way to the way that Windows treats a flashdrive as a "drive"...
