If necessary check-

From the desktop, or use the WINDOWS key + X - run - type RegEdit
OR place the cursor in the lower left corner of the office - right click - path - type in
RegEdit.

Click on the plus sign (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Right click on the key in the left pane - export so you can reverse in the case of an error.

Save as Remove - Filters.reg (any name is ok with .reg extension).

In the eyes of the right pane for one of these = UpperFilters.bak UpperFilters - LowerFilters.
-LowerFilters.bak

If so right click on them - delete
(There may not be one any of these and if not is not the solution).

Close RegEdit

Reset

If you have no need to file .reg you registered then you can delete it.

From the desktop - WINDOWS key + D while on the screen start to access the desktop:

==================================================

Follow these steps to remove corruption and missing/damaged file system repair or replacement.

Starting from the command prompt from the desktop - Windows key + X - (Admin)

SFC/scannow
(space between C and /)

Then run CheckDisk execution - chkdsk /r (the / r includes the parameter f controls)

Windows key + X - command prompt (Admin)

Chkdsk /r

Or run CheckDisk in Windows 8:

Improve performance by optimizing your hard drive - see "to repair a drive.

--------------------------------

Windows key + X - Control Panel

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click the device - driver
Tab: click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then do a CLICK RIGHT to the road.

  • The CD/DVD drive malfunction: one missing, the other does not work

My HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop running Vista, came with a CD/DVD drive that appeared as a reader of CD (e) and (f) HD DVD player, with the hard drive and windows repair partition C: and D:.  There, the E: drive seemed to have disappeared, and it is the reader who would access it when I put a CD to read from.  The HD player never worked to this end and of course now that I only have the "F:" drive, and it tells me to insert a disc, despite the fact that there is a disc in there.  And I have no idea of what I did.

I right click on the HD drive properties and go to the Hardware tab.  WDC (Buncha numbers) ATA device is listed as type of hard drives, and UTIHAX (even numbers) SCSI CdRom Device is listed as a DVD/CD-ROM drives drive (Yes, with the ').  Both work properly, according to the properties of the device.

I tried to disable and re-enable the it.  I tried to uninstall and allow the pilot to resettle.  Nothing doin ' sofar, so I was wondering if any of you have any other ideas I could try.

I'd love to hear them!  Let me know what you need.

    Ashwani Hello,

Thanks for posting on Microsoft Community.

There are various reasons why a CD or DVD drive may not be detected. I would like to ask all of the steps in the Microsoft Article describes a troubleshooting and check if they help to resolve the issue.

Your CD-ROM or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs

    Note:

Before editing a registry key or subkey, we recommend that you export, or make a backup copy of the key or the subkey. You can save the backup copy to a location that you specify, for example, a folder on your hard drive or a removable storage device. If you make changes that you want to cancel, you can import the backup copy. For more information about backing up the registry, please see the link below.

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Hope that advice is useful. Let us know the State of the question, so that we can guide you further.

My CD/DVD drive no longer appears in Windows Explorer in point 8.1 of Windows on my desktop HP Pavilion Slimline 400-034. The disc rotates during startup. I tried the troubleshooting of Microsoft Window 8 with no luck. I would try the HP troubleshooting which requires access BIOS when booting, but by pressing F10 at startup me does not BIOS but Windows load normally. Any suggestions to at least help me get the BIOS?

Solved! No. thanks to HP. Even if I had never opened the file on my PC and make sure that the cable DVD could not be disconnected, I decided to look for. Much to my surprise, he has been disconnected - but not by me - by a HP technician. I remembered that I had to return the PC to HP to replace the power supply warranty in June 2014. Not only have they not reconnect the cable SATA DVD, they put the cable from the hard drive in the MB connector where the DVD cable was supposed to be. After trial and error and insert the DVD cable in the 3 open SATA connectors with no luck, and finally move the cable from the hard drive to another connector and put the cable DVD where the cable from the hard drive was, the DVD has been recognized by Windows and working correctly. Thanks to HP for the many hours I lost to try to correct their mistake.

Download XP_CD-DVD - Fix.zip and save this file on your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it, and double-click the file to extract the content. Find the EXE file that you extracted and double click it.  A confirmation dialog box appears when the script is done.  You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Works on XP and Vista. Good luck!
