my outlook express 6 is freezing up.

After working on a message a little outlook freezes up. I see that msimn.exe use about 50% use of CP. It is corrupt? Have rebooted and stil same.

Is the message still in OE? Drag it to the desktop and delete in OE. Restart and test. If everything is OK, you can move the message to the drafts folder. If the problem persists, you can have an identity that is damaged, especially if it's the default main identity.

File | Identities | Add the new identity. Create a new one and try it. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the main word in the name of the new identity.

When I open outlook express, it immediately freezes as soon as I look at the emails with an hourglass.

If you can access the menu in OE, go to file | Identities and establish a new identity.  If you then open the identity, go to file | Import | Messages and import from the old identity.

Even if you can't access the menu items and deleting folders.dbx has not fixed the problem, then you will need to rename the file inbox.dbx either move them to another directory.  OE should start without locking up, because it will create a new Inbox and there is nothing to read.  Then you can manually import the renamed inbox.dbx file as described here: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 , but DON'T try to import it into the box inbox.dbx but rather under another name.

  • I have an email in my outlook express (BOX SENT) that I can't remove. When I try it freezes the computer. It is an e-mail that I tried to send.

I have an email in my outlook express (BOX SENT) that I can't remove. When I try it freezes the computer. It was an e-mail I was trying to send

and it has been sent. Someone knows how to remove it.

original title: Email in outlook express

Check for working offline and see if it will delete, or else create a new Outbox and sent items folder.

Follow these steps for the Outbox, sent items after you move the messages you want to save to a local folder that you create. Just don't touch the problem message so OE will not freeze.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the Outbox.dbx and Sent Items.dbx file and remove them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. • 6 e-mails Cause Outlook Express to freeze-up Outlook Express 6.0029 running XP SP3 IE 8.0.6001

When I open my Outlook Express 6.0029 running XP SP3 IE 8.0.6001, I am able to look at my emails and read them. But there are six emails dated 05/03/09 and 06/03/09 two which I sent to myself that when I click on them they freeze Outlook Express, I can't open or delete them. Whenever I click on one of them my Outlook Express freezes and I have to close, and then restart Outlook Express. It's only a problem with these six messages.

Assuming that these are in your Inbox:

See if they remove when you work in offline mode. File | Work off connection & discover | Layout: uncheck the preview pane.

If this isn't the case, move all the messages that you want to save to a local folder that you create in the Inbox. Then, create an empty Inbox.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the Inbox.dbx box and delete it. A new vacuum will be created automatically when you open OE.

  • my outlook Express freezes on opening because the albums email won't let me delete it

How do I get in outlook express if the email at the top of the page hangs and will not respond?

In fact, I have one than another thought. You never answered whether or not it was always the same message.

If you go to the OE message store and delete the file Inbox.dbx with OE closed, when you open OE you will have a new but empty Inbox. No message, no corruption.

Of course, which will delete all of your messages. You couls rename the Inbox.dbx to Inboxold.dbx and then try in retrieving your messages with this tool, but it is not free.

You may need to run in the extract from disk Mode if its normal recovery mode fails to find lost messages.

Also, check the Windows Recycle Bin and the OE message store and see if you have an Inbox.bak file. If you do, note the date of creation. There is a way to restore your messages until the free creation date.

And another thing. Let me know the Inbox.dbx file size as it is right now.

  • Emails from Facebook cause my Outlook Express to freeze

I use Outlook Express v6.  When I received a notification e-mail from Facebook, Outlook Express hangs and I have to close the program.  Sometimes I have to close it in the Task Manager, because the output will not work.

Facebook emails are a bit out of what they are supposed to be internet standards, so it is not that you can do about it at this end, unless you receive Facebook messages in plain text, if they have this option, which I doubt.  On your side, if you get this message, you can turn off playback in the preview pane, but rather go to tools | Options | Read and check the box to read messages in plain text only, and then turn on the preview pane or double-click it to open it in a separate window.  My OETool program (free - www.oehelp.com/OETool/) has a button that triggers between plain text and HTML reading that would simplify things.  You can also complain to Facebook on this subject, because they sometimes erroneous messages that OE can not treat, because they conform to the correct Web standards, and only they can fix it.

  • Problems with Outlook Express 6 in Windows XP

    Dear Sir or Madam:

My friend has problems with his program of Microsoft Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP computer.

He has saved all his program of Microsoft Outlook Express 6 e-mail messages.

There are 2 e-mails corrupt in its Outlook Express 6 Inbox folder; He tried opening and remove these 2 emails corrupted in the Inbox folder, which causes the Outlook Express 6 program stops responding and freeze-up Windows XP. He had to click the end task to close immediately the program Outlook Express 6 is not responding in Windows Task Manager.

It won't reinstall Windows XP on his computer from scratch.

    Please reply back soon.

    Thank you.

Same question as above, except the deleted items that is now corrupted. Follow the instructions above, but this time remove Remove Items.dbx with OE closed.

With all the corruption, you might want to consider a new identity that will give you all the new dbx files and a new registry hive.

File | Identities | Add the new identity. Create a new one and try it. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the main word in the name of the new identity.

  • Outlook express does not send receive

After the reboot of my office, O.E. works very well in all directions. But after a few hours, he stops to receive mail in its automatic configuration mode. When I click on send or receive, I don't see ever typical status window. I tried l ' down and restart and notice that I don't get OE logo screen that I normally do, it just goes to the Inbox or whatever it is I last looked and it comes faster than normal. In addition, I noticed sometimes that when I go in my sent mail folder or Inbox, newer than 2009 messages do not appear.  Switch back will sometimes fix it, but not always. Restart will fix all the problems that I said at the beginning. Last week, there was yet another peculiarity which lasted maybe an hour. Click Send and Receive has nothing, but hit CTRL + M brought to work. And earlier I tried clicking on receive and voila it worked fine for the first time since 11:36 AM CDT. Unfortunately, I did not send the mail. The suite send or receive tests continue to fail. I tried to install Mozilla Thunderbird and it seems to work very well, but I would largely continue to use OE.

I use the update of the window in automatic mode and have known no other problems EXCEPT a week ago, Malwarebbyste has found 2 virus files which I immediately deleted. Since then, Malwarebytes always freezes when I put it for a complete analysis. After that, I installed Adaware and have run MRT of MS, SFC and another whose name escapes me now. They have all found nothing. I think THAT OE problems began earlier than that.

My opus system is XP Pro SP 3. My OE is 6.00.2900.5812 and my IE is 8.0.6601.18702. My internet connection is cable Comcast.

I wasn't expecting to find IE listed in my Add / Remove programs but it is there. Because I think that OE comes with IE, it sems like maybe I should try uninstalling and reinstalling. Would it be a good idea? Also, I looked at IE 9 downloads but they do not seem to exist. Designated as IE 9 download sites seem to only have IE8

It seems that there must be a better way

  • I am having major problems with my emails. I can send emails OK but I can't receive them. I use Outlook Express.

I am having major problems with my emails.  I can send emails OK but I can't receive them.  I use Outlook Express.  When I first turn on outlook express, emails start coming, but then outlook express crashes.  I disable outlook express and start again. My emails are stuck in the Orange webmail box until the last email is downloaded.  This means that I sometimes get the same time to send four or five. I called technical support Orange several times, but they say it's a problem of microsoft. I use Windows XP.

original title: I can't receive emails from outlook express.

    Hi Mike,.

Make sure that you have not activated your antivirus software analysis of electronic mail.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 which is often a problem with receiving and sending a message.

Then, try to go to file | Identities and setup a new identity.  This will give you a new message store and a new registry hive (where all the settings and account info is).  Add your email account and see if it works very well.  If it sticks sometimes, make sure that you are not setting to check messages too often (like every 3 minutes or somesuch).  You can also try to increase the timeout for the server where this is a problem (Tools |) Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced).  See if who deals with issues "" OE gel.  If Yes, then you can use the file | Import | Messages to bring them from the old identity.

I do not know that moving to Outlook might solve the problem, because they both use the same mechanism to retrieve messages.  If you still have problems, come on and generate a log file and when OE freezes, which could give some indication of what is the underlying problem.  Make sure that you disable the log file later, because this file grows enormously and can cause problems if it becomes too large.
