N3048 tagging VLAN

Just recently, we bought a n3048 to replace our PowerConnect 6248 failure. The section belonging to a VLAN on the 6248 allows to tag the ports for VLAN specific in four States. An empty box for unconfigured, U for unidentified, T for the tag and F I believe is forbidden. The n3048 has only two States: white and U. Can someone explain how to have a law on the port in the same way it would on the 6248 has been T tag?

You need to set the port in general or Trunk mode settings in order to Tag VLAN. Page 663 user guide begins detailing options and how they are defined.

  • RV082 SB + switches with functionality of tag vlan

    Hi guys,.

I have a small laboratory data center at home, with 1 Server iSCSI and VMware ESXi 5.1 3 guests. I run a few linux servers and windows servers.

And a couple of years ago I bought a Cisco SB double RV082 VPN router and a Netgear smart switch in order to have more segmentantion and management on my network and the virtual machines. I was really happy with the Cisco router, because of stability and functionality.

But after a while, I wanted to learn VLANS and vlan tagging and discovered that I wanted to create interfaces for the different VLANs. I installed the firewall open source pfSense, in order to create these VLANS with tagging of the firewall and on switches/esxi hosts. The pfSense has been installed in a virtual machine on one of the hosts vSphere, and which has become a headache if something happened to the host. So I decided to go back to the Cisco SB RV082.

    So here's my question:

Is it possible to still have all these VLANS that I created on the switches and ESXi hosts when I swap to the Cisco router? Even if the Cisco support only port service VLAN, this shouldn't be a problem? Because of the Multiple subnet feature? These VLANs will have access to the Internet and does not have access to another. Only the primary network management network should have access to the VLAN.

Let's say my primary network is 192.168.1.X and I have 5 VLAN with IP 192.168.2.X,... 3.X... 4.X etc. To be able to use these VLANs on all devices, do I need to assign each VLAN on the Cisco to a specific port? Which means I'll have 5 Cisco cables to the switch?

I'll probably have a DC with DHCP and DNS on a few of VLANS I create. If DHCP for the different VLANs will be created like that and won't have the firewall (which RV082 can't stand?)

In my head, this logical text/topic. But I'm not quite sure if you guys understand what I'm saying or want to accomplish here. So please don't not to ask :-)

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Ruben, this router supports the only port VLAN basis. It does not support any tag VLAN (802. 1 (q). This is reflected by in, VLAN does not matter them, only the subnets.

If you need the subnets to communicate through the router, you can activate the functionality of multiple subnet.

If you want to limit disclosure of the host, you can try to establish access rules to limit communication subnet.

  • Problem of tagging VLAN

I did some research on "best practices" networking and decided to test it on a cluster.

    (1) I have a group of ports vmotion the tag with a tag VLAN 30 on 2 ESX hosts

    (2) the port vmotion group is on its own subnet separate from anything else (10.0.2.0/24)

    (3) in the interfaces of contactors (Dell Powerconnect 6248) I'm going to ' linking IP subnet of VLAN "and link the VLAN 30 to 10.0.2.0/24

I then try a vmotion, and it fails to 10%, most likely a problem with the network as guests are defined in/etc/hosts and times are synchronized.

So, I delete the vlan tags, remove the link in step 3, and voila, vmotion work once more!

Someone has any advice here to share on what went wrong? Perhaps more important still actually do I have a tag of vlan? Since the vmotion vmkernel is in his own vswitch and separate subnet, it seems that traffic is already entirely separate...

    (3) in the interfaces of contactors (Dell Powerconnect 6248) I'm going to ' linking IP subnet of VLAN "and link the VLAN 30 to 10.0.2.0/24

You have a dedicated NETWORK card (or NIC) only for the VMotions?

You will need to tag the switch port (or put it in the trunk and activate the VLAN30).

At this point, do not use bind IP (is just to prevent impersonation).

Try first to set the correct port - belonging to a VLAN.

Also a vmkping between the two ports of VMotion could be useful for diagnosis.

Your network team should create a 'trunk' for physical network ports used by ESXi. On the trunk, they should allow these 3 VLAN mentioned above. Now, I guess they did but you "VMkernel" VLANS is equal to your regular administration VLAN, which is also be the VLAN native.

So I think that there is nothing 'wrong' with your configuration, it's just an implementation detail... If the "management VLANS" also happens be the VLAN native side effect is that you do not need to specify a VLAN ID on the portgroup.

More details can be found here: VMware KB: example configuration of the virtual switch VLAN tagging (VST Mode)

  • Fortinet virtual with tagging VLAN

    Hi all

in fact I do tests with the appliance of virtual firewall from Fortinet. These device have 10 virtual NIC

The Fortinet vm can manage the VLAN different on a single port "physical."

How can I set more than one VLAN on a Port, VM-is it possible?

    Objective:

-A virtual firewall to several VLANS

-VM-customers with different VM Server VLAN different.

I hope someone have some experience with vm-Fortinet a VMWare

    Roger

    Hi Roger,

It is indeed very easy to achieve. We have many implementations of similar to this:

    1. create a GROUP of ports on your vSwitch or dvSwitch Called "Fortinet Trunk" or something similar

2 change the PortGroup and change the VLAN to "VLAN Trunking", in the "VLAN Trunk Range" field enter all them VLAN, you will need

    3. on your Fortinet device assign one of the interfaces to the "trunk Fortinet"

    4. on the interfaces under Setup of Fortinet for each virtual local area network

5 create a new Port Group for each VIRTUAL local area network, modify the PortGroup to include the VLAN ID (your virtual machines will sit on it)

This should be everything you need to get this up and running, any questions or problems please let me know. I can help more if necessary.

  • Tags USB300M and VLAN

    Hello

Does anyone know if the USB300M will strip or leave tags VLAN in Ethernet packets it receives?

    Thank you

I don't think that tag VLAN is removed from packages because it is an Ethernet adapter.

  • PowerConnect 5448, how all the trunk of physical ports and allow all the VLAN tags to pass transparently

I would like to achieve such a goal, do all acts of switch ports 5448 as 'trunk', that is, just as an entry-level switch. Yes, I want all the tags VLAN through seamlessly.

Let me explain more clearly. If

    • With MAC1 PC1 is connected to switch port 1 (port 1) in short, PC2 with MAC2 is connected to port 2.
    • PC1 sends a packet with vlanid = 30 ethernet VLAN tag,.

I want the ethernet packet must be SENT to port 2 without modification, i.e. 2 PC will receive the package with exactly the same byte packets that PC1 sends.

Currently, I want to configure all ports from the switch to act like this, but how to do this? Can someone tell me the more concise CLI commands to achieve? Alternatively, it is possible via the web interface?

I must again complain the poor manual, which talks about this concept and this notion over and over again (both of ambiguous statements that the author of manual does not), BUT doesn't explain them not at the level of the content of the packages, so I'm totally at a loss.

I tried the web interface. Simply together port 1 and 2 for access mode or general mode does not work.

Please help me. Thank you in advance.

Thank you, Josh, you begin to point me in the right direction.

Now, I know just affecting a Trunk port, or general mode is NOT sufficient.  I have to give what kind of package VLAN (i.e. what VLAN ID) are allowed to pass through.

To do this assignment, I have to take 2 steps. say first of all, the database "vlan" to recognize a VLAN ID in the world, then say that some specific port is allowed to pass through with this VLAN ID specific packages.

Thus, in order to pass packets VLAN with VLAN ID 18-25 no modified (marked packets in packages marked on) g7 to the g8 to port port, I have to do:

    Console # config
    Console (config) # vlan database
    Console(config-VLAN) # vlan 18-25
    Console(config-VLAN) # exit

Console (config) # interface ethernet g7
    Console # switchport general mode
Console # switchport General allowed vlan add the tag of 18-25

and again for the g8. And if I want to 48 ports to act like that, I have to write this kind of order 48 times right? All the shortcuts?

  • PowerConnect 2824: Can't access web management using VLAN TAG 1?

Let's say I have port 20, which is a member with LABEL of VLAN 1, 10 and 20.

If I try to access web management to help interface VLAN 1 TAG, it is not accessible.  However, if I remove the tag VLAN (and the default PVID value of 1), then it works fine.

    Is this a known limit?

In addition, change the management VLAN on my 2824?  (what I read, it is not possible)

You're right about the two statements.  The Web GUI is accessible only through the untagged VLAN 1 and it is not possible to change the management VLAN on the 2800 Series switches.  On the other upper level switches, you can use the ip address command vlan xx to move the management VLAN in the VLAN specified in the statement.

    I hope this helps.

  • ISA550W with multi SSID (each having separate DHCP and VLAN tag)?

ISA550W can do the following (in order):

    (1) first group interfaces physical and Wi - Fi SSID (s) set

    (2) then assign with DHCP (ip or subnet)

    (3) then add a tag VLAN interfaces and SSID (s) wireless

    (4) repeat 1 to 3 for the remainging and SSID (s) wireless interfaces to create the following diagram:

    (1) I believe that could transform these ports in ports of junction. That said, I'll normally in the ports themselves through networking, change them to the Trunk ports and add the appropriate VLAN. Please keep in mind that as a general rule which present you to a Trunk port is another switch. Then you EF the VLAN appropriate to each switch coelio that attach a device such as a workstation. There are some devices that do not support be connected to a Trunk port, like the OnPlus of Cisco device however.

    (2) think SSID that only access ports. Because you could never connect a device that would support Trunking wireless, you can apply only 1 VLAN by SSID wireless-> basic settings.

    (3) because the SSID cannot be interconnection. See #2 above for configuring the VLANS on SSID.

  • Removal of VLAN Tag on SG300.

Hi all, tried searching but I am unable to find a specific answer to my question.

I'm testing some equipment at the present time, the basic configuration is a software tester on laptop connects via ethernet on Board of our HAD. Some data must pass through our ESE and reach a second device. Tagged data flows from the laptop to the ESA. I have two switches SG300-10 which is given to me.

These tests require test data to be S - tag only; 802.1ad 0x88A8 Ethertype with my choice of VID (100). There is no C - Tag (0 x 8100), unusual, I know! However my second device cannot manage the VLAN, so I need to remove the label.

Previous test required only the C - tag data, and I managed to remove the labels quite easily by connecting the DUT for the switch port 10, second device with port 10 bridge interface and tagged VLAN 100 the value member and port 9 and 10 port access VLAN 100 interface.

I tried different combinations of setting port 10 customer/general/trunk interfaces but were unable to remove the tags out of port 9. I was able to capture the images desired on port 9 straight, but they are of course marked. I'm working on the presumption that the SG300 can remove S - Tags on output.

The device to port 9 has need of answering queries ARP with a specific MAC address and the response on the same VLAN, which would switch to add to the ARP response. I don't know if this is possible, but perhaps I could replace this device with the second switch if it would respond to ARP on one VLAN only S-Tag.

I would appreciate any pointers that everyone has!

An access port on the SG300 facing the marked port of the remote site has to accomplish this. Handling tag always happens generally during penetration.

  • Windows 7/vista and VLAN Tagging (802. 1 q) on VMWare Workstation 7?

    Hello

It is possible to activate the tagging VLAN in a virtual machine running Windows 7/Vista on VMWare WorkSation 7?

I have which must be executed in a VLAN from diferent VM. In my case I use 802. 1 q in a bridged interface.

    Thank you

    Pato

Perhaps.  If you configure your client to use a virtual Intel e1000 NETWORK card, then you could install the Intel NIC drivers within your comments... I think that the drivers Intel supports VLANS.  But I have not tested it myself.

  • The strength of uplinks not tag with VLAN

I have a very strange config due to the servers being located in the same place. I have 2 of my server (s) uplinks an uplink is connected to a switch under my control. the first uplink is connected to my stwichand that the port is crimped tagging vlan. The second uplink is connected to the network from my ISP to a port without a label.

I want my switch activates the NIC conencted and the card network connected to the ISP to be on standby. The problem is that I have to tag the traffic from my VM so when it switches to my ISP network port without tag removes all traffic. Conencted to my ISP port is for failover only.

one solution is to create a second group of ports on a dedicated vswitch which has no tagging vlan and manually connect the VM to present portgroup failure.

Ideally, I would like to make it automatic, is it possible to automate the above solution? or to force all traffic through a specific untagg traffic vmnic?

Then, I enclose a diagram of what I understand from your network environment.  Please check if it is correct or not.  If this is the case, then you have an interesting situation that I think could be solved with comments e1000 NIC; shift of grouping; and perhaps of multiple itineraries, weighted by default.  All in the comments.

The changes would have to occur in the comments, if the network it will access your ISP (0.0.z.0/24) is a different subnet subnets on your switch.

    Virtualization of happy!
