Network with TOE iSCSI adapter

I'm going to my old server as a storage server and connect via iSCSI to new ESXi server. Former storage server will be linux with iSCSI software target machine. The question is: does make sense to have the NIC with TOE iSCSI on a new server if it is software target on the other? If so, then should I upgrade old server network adapter to one with TOE iSCSI? Or just buy without?

In this case, you can buy not NIC with TOE, iSCSI HBA with TOE, but, and there is no reason.

  • How to clean and do a fresh install with attached iscsi LUN?

I intend to migrate both esx 4.1 with esxi5.1 hosts before you wipe and do a clean install.  Each host is connected to two iscis without, with 4 LUNS of each SAN attached to each host.  Each lun
spread over 3 degrees is. I plan on vmotion (not storage vmotion) guests from one host to another to make the upgrade.  I'm stuck on the determination of what will happen to the iSCSI LUNS after I
upgrade to esxi5.1 guests.  It seems that I should just be able to reattach, but I'm not sure.  Can I just attach the LUNS to the new installation 5.1 hosts and see all the
VMDK intact, or is there something that I am on?

And should the migrated to another host virtual machine continues to run on the iscsi san, while I upgrade of the host, they were released since then?  It seems that storage must be removed from the process as the LUNS
should not remain attached to the host after it is cleared and the iqn name no longer exists.

Am that I on the right track here?  What Miss me?

jackjack2, understand you this? I went ahead and moved to esxi 5.0 U2 of ESX 3.5 u5. Had to perform clean install and I have an iSCSI SAN. That's what I did:

1 a taken a screenshot from all my ESX host configurations. Go to configuration-> software adapter-> click on the iSCSI--> properties--> iqn copy map and alias-> click the dynamic discovery tab and note any IP address. You may need these IPs with the discovery of data warehouses later.

    2. after having documented the configs, put the host in maintenance mode.

    3. after maintenance, remove the host from the vcenter server. Connect directly to the host and close.

    4. remove all the network cables. Cable marking help before you detach the cables.

    5. clean install esxi 5.0.

    6. after installation, before rebooting, set the network cables.

    7. configure and test the management network. If your network management test fails, see if you have anything that is entered in the id vlan. Chances are that your port is not shared resources in the physical switch. In this case, remove the id vlan (during the configuration management network) work.

8 bring the vcenter server host.

9 configure the network, dns, time, etc.

10 Add a software iSCSI adapter. This card will have a new iqn. Either you provide this iqn to your SAN administrator so that it can update side SAN, or you can use the old iqn name.

    11. in my case, I made a copy of the new iqn and then deleted. Entered the old iqn name obtained in step 1. Additionally, entered the alias (since one was present before). After that, a new analysis and update still does not fill in data warehouses. So, I went to the properties of the iSCSI adapter and then discovered added tab dynamic addresses IP that did not exist before (otherwise, you will need to enter the virtual IP address of the cluster that you data store (s) belong to). Once the IP addresses have been added to the dynamic discovery tab, he asked if I wanted to rescan the HBAs. I said yes and viola! my data stores have been populated.

12 Add the host to the cluster.

Note that you can add iSCSI adapter when you affiliate you the host to the cluster. However, in this case HA will not be happy because no heartbeat of data storages will be detected. In addition, when data warehouses are discovered it may appear initially as not mounted. Don't panic. After a minute or two it will be mounted.

    I hope this helps!

  • PCAN USB with NI-CAN adapter

    Hello

I intend to communicate that LabVIEW with a controller to motor through the CAN network by using an adapter USB-PCAN system Peak. I wanted to know if NI-CAN be able to send and receive commands through devices that are not National Instrument (in this case, it will be the USB PCAN-adapter of the system Peak). Can anyone who knows something about this topic help out me please?

We used the PCAN USB with the LabVIEW RIDGE driver provide. I don't think you can use NI-CAN or NOR-XNET to talk directly to the network using the PCAN USB CAN but we use the conversion functions of NI-XNET to convert between the CAN messages and signal/data value and vice versa, and then use the driver PCAN LabVIEW for read/write messages.

  • Problem detection network with Network Magic/Pure platform Service quirks and WUSB54GC

    SYSTEM & HARDWARE INFO:

    Wireless adapter: USB54GC v3
Router: Netgear WNR834B (with latest firmware)
Router config: Auto Channel, up to 130mbps mode, radio enabled, enabled SSID broadcast
    Router Config2: Frag Ahmed - 2346, beat the CTS/RTS - 234, long preamble, MTU - 1500
    Wireless security: WPA - PSK + WPA2 - PSK

Operating system: Windows XP Pro SP3 (latest updates as of 17/01/2010)
Drivers: Latest from Linksys site (v4.9.90 setup.exe download)
Programs of security software: Comodo & Panda Cloud Antivirus Firewall
Configs of security software: uninstalled, installed or disabled, and installed/enabled

    DETAILS OF THE PROBLEMS:

No wireless network is detected on the computer with the installed adapter WUSB54GC.  Cell phones, printer (located in the same office) and game console, receive positive signals / have no connectivity problem.  With a new installation of Windows (i.e. the BONES cost installation before using each method) I tried to install the unit using the following methods: 1) using the Setup program on the CD-ROM included, 2) using the last program (drivers) site Web of Linksys, install 3) manually through the device with drivers from the Disk Manager and installing 4) manually through the Device Manager with the newer drivers from the Web site Linksys.  In addition, I tried with the firewall disabled/uninstalled software.

I had some success using the Linksys Wireless Manager program that is included in the installation program.  However, it is only if I choose the option 'connect to the hidden network' when the Wireless Manager is ran in the last step of the Installer (no network is detected the case).  The quirks are that the network is not hidden, and after Setup is complete, I can see all the wireless LANs with the Linksys Wireless Manager (no need to check the option hidden network).  After a few diagnostic tests, I think that the Network Magic software that is installed in quiet mode with the Linksys software is at the origin of the problem.

During the detailed above method that allowed me to connect to the network, I used the firewall software to observe that connectivity can be established only if nmsrvc.exe, a component of the network Network Magic/pure software platform that is installed silently, is allowed access to the network.  After this program to access the Linksys Wireless Manager network can detect networks normally and connectivity problems disappeared.  After he logged initially I can even kill the process, its assistance process and the program manager wireless, still maintain connectivity.  I also thought about this magic (AKA pure networks platform service) network installation two other network protocols that when disabled preventing connectivity.  With certainty the adapter only works if I finish the complete installation program by using the hidden network option and continue to use linksys wireless/network magic software later.

I'm trying to understand why the Network Magic software is necessary to detect and use all networks.  As I said originally, I tried just to install the drivers through the device without success Manager.  The adapter is configured on a machine Pentium 4 of 2001, and this software supports 40 MB of precious CPU cycles and memory.  I want to connect to my wireless network and use the computer without software bloated slow down the computer even more.  My own conclusion, after all these tests are that my router needs the network magic to work properly for some reason, but if that's true, I would at least use Windows connects to the network as Linksys Wireless Manager uses 30MB RAM itself.  Of course, it's more a problem advanced if I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read all this and make their contribution.  Thank you.

I think that the most appropriate statement would be that the WUSB54GC has some compatibility issues with Windows XP SP3.

Specifying the age of the available Linksys drivers I did some research and discovered that the WUSB54GCv3 uses a third party (a common practice), the Ralink RT2800UD chipset.  Latest Ralink drivers for this chipset are over a year newer than the official drivers from Linksys.  They require just a few reconfiguration so that they work with Linksys WUSB54GCv3.  With the updated drivers comes better compatibility and performance often.

Once I installed these drivers updated the device could detect local wireless normally, and I was able to use the Zero Windows wireless utility to connect to my network.  I think that others with similar compatibility problems will have the same result.  For more information and links to these pilots updated already visit reconfigured: http://sites.google.com/site/linksysupdateddrivers/.  There are not official, updated drivers for many other Linksys products here.  Credit for the drivers and the Web site goes to this person: http://sites.google.com/site/linksysupdateddrivers/about.

    Hi Samuel,.

We appreciate your efforts to solve this problem. We will put all our efforts in order to solve the problem.

Teredo is a tunneling protocol designed to grant IPv6 connectivity to nodes that are located behind IPv6 NAT (network address translation) not compatible devices. It defines a way of encapsulating IPv6 packets in IPv4 UDP (User Datagram Protocol) datagrams can be routed through NAT devices, on the IPv4 internet.

I wish to inform you that Acer has not released Windows 8 compatible drivers for Acer 6292 travel companion.

  • Powercli editable iscsi adapter logintimout?

HI - is it possible to change the value of an adapter logintimeout software iscsi (iscsi adapter | properties: Advanced: logintimeout) via powercli?  We use a powercli script to run a new analysis of the adapters of iscsi on all our guests a at a time as needed.  Recommended by our SAN provider recommends that we put logintimeout to 60 seconds, but that the fact for 15-20 minutes for each host rescan.  Affecting the logintimeout value 5 seconds, temporarily, to analyze it again reduced the time to analyze again in 2-3 minutes per host, so I would include changing the logintimeout value in our script, but have not been able to find a way to do.  Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have.

    Hello, Kyle Powell-

As with most everything that begins, «Can PowerCLI...» ', the answer here is, "can of course.  I didn't see a cmdlet 'standard' who will take care of this, so it's time for favorite of all, Get-view!  Something like:

    ## make the array of options to update on the ISCSI adapters$arrISCSIOptions = New-Object VMware.Vim.HostInternetScsiHbaParamValue[] (1)$arrISCSIOptions[0] = New-Object VMware.Vim.HostInternetScsiHbaParamValue -Property @{ key = "LoginTimeout" value = 5} ## end new-object

    ## get all hostsystems, along with a few, choice propertiesGet-View -ViewType HostSystem -Property Name,ConfigManager.StorageSystem,Config.StorageDevice.HostBusAdapter | %{ ## get the HostStorageSystem for this hostsystem $viewThisHostStorageSystem = Get-View -Id $_.ConfigManager.StorageSystem ## for each ISCSI adapter in this host, update the InternetScsiAdvancedOptions $_.Config.StorageDevice.HostBusAdapter | ?{$_ -is [VMware.Vim.HostInternetScsiHba]} | %{ ## reference: http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp#com.vmware.wssdk.apiref.doc_50/vim.host.StorageSystem.html#updateInternetScsiAdvancedOptions $viewThisHostStorageSystem.UpdateInternetScsiAdvancedOptions($_.Device, $null, $arrISCSIOptions) } ## end foreach-object} ## end foreach-object

Thanks to Onyx for the bit of the method to use here, "UpdateInternetScsiAdvancedOptions()".  And, you can set the scope of these actions of config by getting fewer hosts, or less HBA per host, etc.

In any case, what to do for you?

  • Try to test ESX4 with test iSCSI (FreeNAS)

    Hello

I learn about VSphere, ESX4 and iSCSI and a simple way to assess it is to use the FreeNAS with ESX4 60 day trial.  We will get a solution EMC SAN and VSphere full blown, installed in the coming months, but I would like to have a little play time of first hand.

So I FreeNAS installed in VMWare Workstation with SCSI 4 72 GB disks.  These disks in a RAID5 configuration and iSCSI is enabled.  I can connect to iSCSI using the Microsoft iSCSI initiator.  I can format the drive and store the files that it contains.  He has even worked with ESXi 3.5, but I have since then wiped to try the latest version of VMWare VSphere4.

For the life of me, I can't add this iscsi datastore.  In vSphere client under Configuration > storage adapters, I have the connection iSCSI vmhba33 to the FreeNAS box NetBSD iSCSI disk (iqn.1994_04.org.netbsd.iscsi_target, 0x4a71bbb1667c11de), name of runtime: vmhba33:C1:T0:L0, 216 GB of capacity.

Now under Configuration > storage, I try to create the data store.  Add storage > disk/LUN > choose my iSCSI option only displayed, name it vmds1, 256 GB, block size: 1 MB, maximize the capacity, next, finish.  In a few minutes, I get always an error ' error in the configuration of the host: unable to create the file system, please see VMkernal log for more details.  Under FreeNAS that I tried formatting as EXT2, FAT32, NTFS or leaving no formatted.  No work.

I remember having a heck of a lot of trouble to get this to work with ESXi 3.5, but I end up getting things backwards and 2 virtual machines running.  Although I did jump immediately to try to vSphere 4.  Now I don't remember what I did, or maybe this version does not play nice with FreeNAS iSCSI implementation.

On the events tab, I see lots of "connectivity lost to the iqn.1994_04.org.netbsd.iscsi_target, L, 0x4a71bbb1667c11de of storage device.  Vmhba22:C1:t0:l0 path is down.  Touch of data warehouses: "VMDS1."  Recovery attempt is underway and results will be communicated shortly. »

There is an inscription that says "restored access to the 4a4bc1e1-f4bb4a45-cc91-000c2910ccd5 (VMDS1) volume due to connectivity problems successfully.

Even if it is followed by more 'Lost connectivity' message above.

I'm really tired.  I really want to play with that using iSCSI to simulate our future iSCSI EMC SAN.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

I use several laboratory purposes but for me Openfiler was easy to install and administer. A decent free ISCSI SAN network.

    http://www.Openfiler.com/

In addition, because you are looking at EMC you might want to take a look at their Celerra VSA (virtual SAN) for laboratory use.

  • How to access multiple VMs on the network with nic 1 host?

    Greetings,

I have a server vmware running windows XP with 3 virtual machines in suse. I would like to access the 3 virtual machines from the network at the same time. The vm 3 has their own static ip address. I use the bridge network mode. There is only 1 NETWORK card on the XP computer. With this configuration, I can access only 1 vm the network at a time. When I added an another NIC and jumpered it on a second computer, virtual, then I can access 2 at the same time.  Any ideas on how I can access all the vm 3 at the same time on the network with just 1 NETWORK card?

Even if you only have a physical NETWORK adapter, you should be able to access all the guests at the same time when they use bridged networking and have a correct IP configuration. Can you put your host IP configuration and your guests so we can check it out. Make sure the guests are really "bridged" and disable all firewall during the test.

  • Extend my extreme network with another extreme - waiting for internet access

Hello - I have a new generation Airport Extreme (let's call it Extreme1) connected to a Comcast modem and it works very well. The extreme will be the router that the modem has no router function. I'm trying to expand my network to another room with another extreme (let's call it Extreme2). I have a connection cable between two rooms. Extreme1 has an ethernet cable from one of its LAN ports connected on port WAN Extreme2. When I try to create a new network with Extreme2 (in aid of the same name, passwords, etc.) it does not work. He was suspended at the end when he is looking for a connection ("Waiting for internet access")-I did the following things based on what I read here:

    1. Changed IPv6 link local parameters
    2. Tried the whole upward on my Macbook and tried on my iphone
    3. The Wan first and then tried to change the configuration after you done for Extreme2 by creating a network
    4. Tried to create a network with Extreme2 connected directly to the modem
    5. Extreme2 factory reset after every attepmt

And nothing works. Kicker is, I also have a reasonably new airport express and the same thing happens to her as well.

Do I need to adjust some parameters of network that I'm not aware of? Is it possible that my LAN ports are disabled on Extreme2? It is brand new.

    Thanks for any help.

Have you used the Apple Setup Assistant?  If you did, it had notified you that the extreme second was being configured "add using Ethernet. The wizard will automatically configure the second airport with the appropriate settings for you.  All you have to do is enter a name of device for the second AirPort Extreme.

Here I'm assuming that you reset the second extreme to parameters by default until you set it up again and that your second Extreme is the current version of the "tower" or that of previous versions "flat or square.

The example below shows an AirPort Express as the device which is the extension of the network, but you will see the name of your network and AirPort Extreme on your configuration screen.

Post back if you need some tips on using the "Wizard" for your configuration.

Having recently acquired this laptop, I tried to transfer files between it and my desktop (os w2k pro sp4) which is already networked with 2 other computers (ME and 98) in the House. Seems the laptop refuses to cooperate.
I can ping 127.0.0.1, no problem, I can even ping IP of my desktop computer, but the laptop will not ping itself. The same office it detects my home network, but cannot access it. I have a light green and orange when ping of the desktop computer. I installed the latest drivers realtek for local networks (device drivers everything apparently works well)
With the Office when this is the case I could uninstall the internet protocol (TCP/IP) and put things back by reinstalling, in XP this option is grayed out.

Any suggestion would be appreciated as I am running out of ideas?

    See you soon

    Hi Eddie

I guess you have a lot of experience with computer networks, and as you can see this sometimes a strange and inexplicable things.

I'm sure that all the settings are good, but you can also try to connect your laptop directly to the desktop (peer to peer). On this way, you can check if it is possible to establish the connection.

  • Satellite L450-136 no longer charge with the AC adapter

I was wondering if someone can help me.

My laptop Toshiba Satellite L450-136 charge is no longer with the AC adapter.

It is now run out of dead and the battery power.
I don't know if the problem is with the computer or the power cable.

Nothing happened as the computer having fallen or anything.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can understand the problem and then fix it?

    Thank you!

To be honest, I have two different laptops Toshiba (U400 and Tecra A11).
The two race perfectly and never had problems charging the battery or similar
I have other laptop which is 8 years from another manufacturer but the battery is dead, but it's nothing unusual for laptop that is so old ;)
One of my friends has the same laptop as your Satellite L450 and this also works

    > I don't know if the problem is with the computer or the power cable.

This can be verified if you would connect a power adapter new and tested.
However, I think that it s not worth it to buy a new adapter only to run some tests, this should be done by technicians for laptop
