  edited later to say I managed (through multiple trials on different pages to finally download Firefox Mozilla), he took several tests and various download sources - perhaps finally a mirror site that worked. Hat a frustration!

  The mirror (server hosting the Firefox configuration file), you have been loaded can be out of service for some reason any. Try to download it again and see if it works the second or third time. If you have no luck, try to use another mirror. One here, that should work (select the desired language).

• Computer does not connect to any network anywhere.

  I have a computer that I can't connect to any wireless network. I have a Linksys router that already has my main computer, a laptop, PS3 and a wii connected but this laptop just easy to store. It was, essentially, that across the Canada but do not pick up a connection anywhere. Not exactly computer saavy but don't mind reading and went by so much information and instructions my eyes cross. Could someone please help or suggest an alternative? It would be much appreciated.

  Go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer/laptop > drivers and downloads Section > key in your model number > look for the latest Vista drivers > download/install them.

• My computer keeps freezing on upward. I have Windows 7 OS

  My laptop Dell - Vostro 3550 with Windows 7 operating system, keeps freezing upwards each time that I am playing games or even to use e-mail.  I already ran a boot cleaning and had reconfigured the knowledge but the problem keep creeping up.  I'm not a computer saavy but with a simple mounting in language a layman, I can follow.  Thanks in advance.

• Pavilion dv4 laptop: HP Pavilion dv4 laptop grey screen vertical lines

  (1) a couple of months there are 3 vertical lines have appeared on the left side of the laptop screen.  Then the last two weeks all of a sudden the entire screen turns into a gray color with vertical lines.  Happened three times already and don't know what to do.  Not too computer saavy (I'm a senior) and it will bring relief but I don't want to get cheated and want to be less well informed about what it could be.  Read something about a UPS (not sure what that means).  When this happens, I have of course turn off the pc, wait a few minutes and turn it back on.  Don't know what is the cause.

  (2) also I am on a wireless network and pages have sometimes a delay in loading or it says it is not connected.  Called my provider and they do not know what the problem is.  Six mos Fox their service has worked very well, all of a sudden it doesn't and of course they blame my pc.  If anyone knows why this would happen intermittently?

  Thanks for the quick response!

  There may be several reasons why you would have this problem.  Wise software, it can be related to malware.  Or maybe your drivers should be updated.  Hardware wise, the graphics card may be faulty. It is possible that the display cable is not correctly connected or is faulty.  It is also possible that the display on the wall it itself is damaged.  I hope this helps.

  Maybe you should first check all the components in the Device Manager and make sure the drivers are installed. It will be interesting to know what operating system is preinstalled on this old notebook. Please let me know.

  If I remember well that laptop has no LAN card. Am I right about that? If yes then I recommend to buy the PCMCIA LAN card. Install properly and you can connect to your router and enjoy Internet at full speed.

  To be honest, I don't know what you mean with the larger image on the screen. Perhaps you should choose the standard screen resolution lower resolution screen, but on this laptop is 1, 024 x 768 and I think it should be OK.

• Windows 7 - a lot of problems after installing Windows Live Essentials 11

  Help!  I did an update recommended this morning... There were 2... not computer saavy, so do not know what they were called. But, it has changed our e-mail window & I do not like change. Also, if I scan a picture to send by e-mail, something which is called SkyDrive is used and it cuts the top of each scan on my end and the recipient, & on end recip, it shows pictures too small to see how no matter how much detail & they can't find a way to enlarge it. I need to this scan and send to work.  I can somehow get rid of these windows updates?  If this is not the case, can I at least get rid of the sky drive so we use it not for a scanned image? We use Windows Live Mail, so when I saw Windows Live for the update, I thought it was just for the e-mail program and I had to do. However, I had to sign up for Windows Live, & I have no need of all _'s done it now.  I want my old program back without losing anything that is stored in the process, like electronic program records complete. If I knew it wasn't an update of simple e-mail program, I never would have it.

• Dv5 does not load Vista, failing hard drive test

  I have a laptop HP DV5 with Vista - 2 years and more under warranty.  He had some problems with Windows Update error codes, I did a system restore to a point a little backward.  This does not solve the problem, so I tried to cancel restoring the system back to the State of our days.  This was fine, but then the system locked up when he tried to restart itself-it has attempted to restart for 45 minutes and got nowhere, so I turned off.  This throw Windows completely, as the system restore was not full yet, so now that my computer will boot the HP logo and start up options, but then get hung up trying to load windows (I have a black screen with a scroll bar down cycles endlessly with Microsoft Corporation written below)

  Bottom line - I can't get the computer to boot windows, and system recovery does not work.  Tried directly from the hard drive and vain and ordered HP-put one disk disks this morning, once removed from the HP screen, I get the bar "Windows loading files" at the bottom, which ends in about a minute, but then it just goes back to its normal load upward, with the scroll bar and Microsoft Corporation at the bottom of the screen.  So I can't open basically even the system restore window.

  I just ran the self-test of the primary hard drive and had hard disk Test do not.  I'm not particularly computer saavy (I didn't know that to do this test in reading this forum), if anyone can tell me what I should do next?  I don't want to go somewhere and get screwed!

  Hi Becky,

  The result of the primary Hard Drive Self Test means your hard drive is defective and must be replaced.  It is the HARD drive in my dv5.

  Hard drive replacement is not difficult (generally remove two screws from the cover of the HARD drive on the bottom of your laptop, remove a futher two screws holding the disc in place then pulling on one leg to lift the reader.  Then unscrew the metal casing around your old drive - often called the caddy drive - attaching to your new drive, insert the new drive, fix it with two screws and replace the cover.  Then simply insert your recovery DVDs to load Vista on your new drive.  Here is a Youtube video showing this.

• I use windows xp. Was informed that I could no longer use switdhed to Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. Today I received the notice of updates Activevex. Is it safe?

  First of all, I am not very computer saavy, so have patience. My antivirus, Eset, posed by the original note that my server could not support such what and sent in an update which I do not.   I use xp, without the need to update at this time.  Recently, I was informed that Internet Explorer was no longer an option and I switched to Google Chrome 3 weeks ago...  No problem until this morning, it was recommended that I support Active vex.  A lot of floating security around warnings.  What is c? Safe?

  That looks more like a sort of malware. I have 150 machines under XP with IE and have no problem at all.

• All 4 printers have disappeared from the list of printers & faxes; reason & need help please!

  When you try to access my internet postage program, I got a message that it was unable to initialize the printer.  When I checked the list of Printers and faxes in Control Panel... I find 4 all printers who WERE there yesterday... are now gone.

  • When you click Startand then click Printers and faxes to try to view your printers, no printers appear. This problem may occur even if you have a printer installed.

  I tried several times to use "Fix - it" Microsoft online service, and he could not solve the problem.  I just kep saying me he couldn't solve the problem.  It is absolutely No. MS supports available unless you have at least $59.00 or more to pay for trying to help!  "Terminal" and valid on a model of disability very limnited former fighters from one month to the other... I could not certainly not even begin to afford no paid... help unfortunately.

  I am NOT computer saavy and I don't any idea as well WHERE to start... much less HOW to solve this problem!  Unless I can get this printer spooler service, or something else... running... I can't even begin to try to re - install a printer I have.

  Another method to start the box run is to click on the Start Menu, type run and press ENTER.

  You can then delete the print job in the queue as follows.

  In the run window, type services.msc and press to enter.  Scroll down to the print spooler service, right click and select Properties, then click the Stop button.  Now search for C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS, then delete the work inside this folder - you may need to click a command prompt to get the authority to open the PRINTERS folder.

  Restart the computer and you should find that the documents have been deleted.
