No wireless connection after using "PC Restore"

Dell Laptop Inspiron 9100 with Dell wireless WLAN mini-PCI card.  I made just a "PC Restore" to get my laptop to the factory setting.  The restore operation went well, but now my wireless card will not pick up a signal from my modem broadband & router system.  The wireless internet worked well before the restoration.

The router checked ok.  In fact, my laptop even picking up a signal from the system of my neighbor who is about 400 feet away.  Device Manager indicates that the wireless adapter is enabled and working properly.

This morning, I even made a direct cable connection to the laptop and it is always connected to the Internet.

I typed "ipconfig/all" in the laptop and one of the lines of text which came back said "State of the media: media disconnected".  No IP address has been listed.

I'm out of ideas.  Any suggestions?

Thank you

Bob

Installed new DSL modem/wireless router. Using WPA2-AES security for the wireless. All new wl in my local network components reacted very well. 2 units of wl, Sony VAIO TR3 and netbook Acer Aspire One, does not connect to the network. Both use XP svc pk 3. Pswd screen Sony allows WPA2-AES and I entered the pswd. The netbook has entry field for WPA-TKIP. I enter the password anyway. Neither connects via WIFI (both connect via ethernet very well).  Vietnamese to the new modem/router installation, both of these units connected to the local network very well. The previous security with the router was WPA-TKIP. Any ideas?

    Hello

Different wireless routers treat differently security. Many cannot deal with double level of encryption.

First of all the stage newspaper with a wire to the router and disable security.

Make it work temporarily with open connection.

Spend on wireless security, then to use the WPA - PSK or TKIP - which is in the router to two computers.

  • Could not get the internet/wireless connection after you installed new hard drive?

I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC (dv6736nr), Windows Vista laptop.  The hard drive crashed and I got a new installed.   I set up my wireless connection, even that is on the other 4 computers in this building (my desktop computer running win7 netbook win7 running 2 computers of the landlord, winVista running - they have comcast modem,? a good router) when I set up the wireless connection, it connects only 'local', no internet.  I researched this some, tried all the places with a parameter that can be a problem, but nothing helped.  What the hell did I miss?  The connection is good because it works on my desk, on which I write, as I said. To my knowledge, the hard disk the the wireless are not connected; or is it? Any help, the concrete steps that I take on my laptop, the settings themselves, would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello:

If your laptop computer is the Atheros wireless card, you probably just update the driver.

The symptoms you listed seem to indicate that is the problem.

Please I really need help, how do I get my laptop to detect the wireless network. If someone could give me a few steps to do, please.

Most laptops have a switch that turns the wifi radio on or off.  Often, it is a combination of the Fn key and one of the F keys.  It may be a physical switch somewhere on the laptop.  See your manual for details.

    If this isn't the problem...

What is the brand and model of your router?  Almost all wifi routers also have at least one Ethernet port, you can connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable and download the right driver for your http://www.asus.com/support wireless card
Have you tried to "Roll back driver" in the "Driver" tab of your adapter wifi 'properties' in Device Manager?  At the very least, determine which version of the driver is installed, and compare that to the current version on the asus support site.

  • R7000, problems with wireless connection after the last firmware update 1.0.6

I recently updated to the latest firmware available for the R7000...

The upgrade went well and my Wired PC all connected without any problem, but several of my wireless devices were unable to connect to the WiFi. I have my cell phone Wifi (Android phone) kept gives me an error of authentication, but was able to connect to the network comments... weird...

I started firmware 1.0.4 and everything worked well again... it seems that the new firmware is buggy.

The Firmware versions listed above are only for the first three issues, to save typing, but you get the version that I use...

    Nick

    Hello

I would like to let you know, I've improved in 1.0.6 last night and everything worked. The difference is this time I had to reset my router to the factory settings using the reset hidden at the back button and hold the button for about 7-10 seconds. This resets the router to the factory settings. I then had to re-enter all my IP address reservations and the word block list, but all my wireless devices were able to connect. The last time I did the upgrade, I just restarted the router, and I had read that I had to do a factory reset to operate correctly.

It would have been nice for Netgear arrive at a way to extract Information form my version last-place back... it would have saved me a lot of time...

    Good luck
