Non-functional wireless on Portege M200

I just got a new laptop Portege M200 to replace my old Portege 3500.

With my old lappie, I connected automatically and without problems to 3 different wireless networks at work and at home. The new lappie connected to one of the networks right out of the box (after typing the WEP key) but it does not connect to the other 2.

The main difference I see is that the new lappie has a wifi card 802. 11 g, so that the old lappie 802. 11B. Assembly who works is a new 802.11 g built without thread/router/modem.

Two other wireless connections are through wireless access points. Connects to broadband via a modem/router and the other via a pc with internet connection sharing active. Both of these connections work with the
old lappie. At least one of the connections works if I connect via a wired connection.

The lappie appears to connect to the other 2 networks - it is said that it is connected to the network of xxx and the signal strength is very good, but I get a page not found message when I try to access websites with Firefox. I have
Verify that the mac address is enabled and that the wep keys are entered correctly is not a problem here.

I think I have all the properties for the new wireless connection, the same as for the old.

It is very frustrating carrying 2 round arnut, can someone help me solve the problem please.

TIA

Neil

Hello

It will be interesting to know if the appliance has INTEL 2200 BG WLAN card. If so, we know that this card hit with some access points.

Try to install the latest Intel driver http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1637&lang=eng

Who should download the installation diskettes? You must download the installation diskettes if all the following conditions are met:
    • You install a new version, full of the retail Windows XP.

Note An upgrade to Windows XP installation does not require the installation diskettes.

  • Portege M200: registering does not voice when you use the handwriting recognition

When I'm in "tablet mode" using handwriting text recognition that my Portege M200 regularly presents a message to say, he could not save the speech recognition and I have to switch off the microphone if I do not use it. I often use it to take notes of the meeting so there is always background noise. Usually, text is lost when this message appears. The message will also appear when I save.

How to turn off the microphone while maintaining the functional handwriting recognition please?

Just a question: what software do you use for text recognition?

  • Portege M200 - WLan disappears and cannot be reconnected

    Hey guys,.

I have a toshiba portege M200 computer laptop with Windows XP Professional and SP2.

If I disable and enable the wireless network adapter or it spend some time the WLAN network is not shown. A restart does not help.

Can someone tell what is the problem?

    Hello

How do you disable the wireless network adapter?
Did you use the switch on the side of laptops?

Usually the wireless network must be enabled by using the FN + F8 option
So if you your wifi does not work then you must use the FN + F8 combination keys to activate the WLan again.

In addition, you should check if you are using the latest driver WLan...

  • Portege M200 does not detect the Modem PCMCIA card

I have the Portege M200, when I insert a PCMCIA card (LAN or wireless) the pc detects it ok but if I insert a modem PCMCIA ANY, as a standard 56 k modem, modem card v620 air verizon or a sierra wireless aircard 710, the pc does not detect any, nothing happens when I put it in or out.

V620 Verizon is the card that I have to make it work as soon as POSSIBLE, others, I used for the test, it seems that modems do not work for some reason any on the PCMCIA.

    any help?

If the WLAN card manufacturer supplied driver with this card please read manual how to install it on the right track. It is possible that the driver must be installed first.

Sorry, but my opinion on the laptop PCMCIA port is OK and if you need support try to contact the manufacturer of the card. They should have enough experience with own products.

  • Portege M200 won't start CD-Rom USB

I tried used, pressing C, changing the Bios and F12 boot boot from CD-Rom. None doesn't seem to work, if anyone has any other suggestions I would be grateful.

    Hello

Unfortunately I can't help you much about it because I do not have this Portege but I found interesting news on the Portege M200 and support for recovery disks:

The Portege M200 supports the recovery through the BIOS (by pressing 'C') with the USB 2.0 card and PCMCIA (16-bit and Cardbus).
Readers and following (USB, PCMCIA) controllers have been tested successfully:

    one) Toshiba, PA3352E-SCD2, CD-RW/DVD-Rom USB 2.0 drive
    (b) Toshiba PA3402E-1DV2, Rev.501, USB 2.0 DVD Super Multi drive, SN: 5362870112
    (c) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST, (Freecom drive), SN: 3431490096
    with a PC Card (16 bit) card, cable II, PCMCIA, Rev.043.242, SN: 18496 043 3999 0343 01093
    (d) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST, (Freecom drive), SN: 3431490096
    with a CardBus cable II, MAP of BUS, Rev.136, SN: 16693 136 3999 0149 06122

The drive used in conjunction with the Contoller PCMCIA or USB is not so important due to the fact that the driver in the BIOS should allow the controller first.
There is a generic CD-ROM drive implemented in the BIOS for the connected player.

    Tested with:
Toshiba, PX1054E-1NST, (Freecom drive), SN: 151192845
    Card CardBus, cable II, CARD BUS, Rev.136, SN: 16693 136 3999 0149 06122

The "PC Card controller Mode" settings in the BIOS has been 'Automatic Selection '.
This means that you have nothing to change in the BIOS, because it is the default value.

It could happen, to connect the power supply in certain circumstances, for example:
    Battery is charged too less.
The PCMCIA supplies unless energy location.

    Recommendation:
If a player is used with a built in battery, please always connect an appropriate adapter.

For the recovery of USB 2.0, 2 following drives have been tested successfully:
    one) Toshiba, PA3352E-SCD2, CD-RW/DVD-Rom USB 2.0 drive
    (b) Toshiba PA3402E-1DV2, Rev.501, USB 2.0 DVD Super Multi drive, SN: 5362870112
    (c) Plextor PX-W4824 TU, USB 2.0 CD - RW drive

  • Vista on Portege M200 - some problems with nVidia display driver

    Hello

I recently decided to update and perform a clean installation of Windows Vista on my Portege M200, now that Toshiba have released official drivers for this machine.

Everything works fine, EXCEPT the nVidia display driver. I have the following questions with the driver Toshiba provides for this machine (97.52 version):

    (1) when the screen turns off to save power, the backlight does NOT turn off. Screen turns off but the backlight will stay lit.
    (2) for the recovery of the standby mode, the backlight is OFF. You must use the shortcuts Fn-F6/F7 to change the backlight level manually, that will bring him back.
    (3) external monitor does not work (with command Fn + F5 or nVidia control panel). External display is always blank.
    (3) video playback in WMP is very chopped (a secondary concern for me).

Is there a chance that Toshiba could finally get a updated driver that would set out the? That would really make this machine fully functional in Vista.

Thanks in advance for any help or information.

    Null value

    Hello

    > Are there opportunities that Toshiba could finally get out an updated driver?
I noticed that from time to time new updates of pilot (any series of notebook) are released on the European driver Toshiba page and, therefore, I m optimistic that new updates are available

But note; usually, various problems can be resolved by installing some patches MS Vista and missing patches.
Then visit this [MS update website | http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us] and check if all the patches are installed.

    Best regards

  • Support HDD on Portege M200

I bought a refurbished portege M200 all the time, but the hard drive has problems, I'm looking to replace it.
However no one knows if there are restrictions on which will take hard drives the M200? I'm trying to decide between spending 100 euros for a samsung 160 GB available in a store of the local computer where I can easily go back if it turns out that no work, or order that a 120 GB model from samsung to 62.50 online but where he will be more difficult to return if it does not work...
I'm a little pressed for cash so if someone can tell me if the samsung 120 GB (HM121HC so this is important) should work, I would be very happy;).

    Hello

generally, the chipset/BIOS should support HD´s up to 160 Gig, but the problem is that the machine has been delivered with smaller disks, so you will either check the forum on users having similar problems (the search function is great here :)) or you buy the 160 Gig drive, check if it works, return it to the store and buy the HARD disk of 120 Go for half the price.
I think it's a way without a lot of risk.

    Welcome them

  • T61: cover and non-functioning lights switch problem

My T61 (type 6465) is coming for three years and has recently developed some minor but annoying flaws. The main problem is that the most reliable laptop will remain suspended: closing the lid does not have to be suspended in the first place and if I use Fn + F4 to suspend, it seems that clutching the back edge of the laptop (that you could do to pick it up and put it in a bag) cause him back on the suspension. Accordingly, I found the cell phone on when you remove it from my backpack, even if I was sure that I had hung before storing.

The other symptoms, is that some of the green lights have stopped working. Namely, the green lights of power, battery, caps lock num and caps lock seem to have stopped running, but wireless, hard drive and activity to suspend lights continues to work. In addition, the orange battery light works very well.

Other that the system continues to work perfectly: the battery is still good and maintain the load, the power supply charges the battery and powers the system properly. Power management applications show the correct information about the power status of the system (i.e. on current AC or battery-operated).

I try to work if this is likely to be a hardware failure or a software problem initially. Has anyone seem to similar symptoms, or may suggest that the problem could be based on my description?

    See you soon,.

    -Mark.

non-functioning lights is most likely a hardware problem.

  • ID/faces of the people in the Sierra pictures, pulling up the non-functional names

Someone knows how to fix this? Is it a new setting I'm missing? I've already sent feedback to Apple.

Photos, when I come across a photo of a person without a name, I can click on the field "no name" and a list of names appears. In the Sierra, however, the list includes names of new non-functional based on the e-mail addresses that are causing problems with my library.

For example, if I type my name, I see three suggestions:

    1. my full name, with the thumbnail associated with my Photos 'face '.

    2. my full name with my email from Apple below address and the photo of my Contacts entry

    3. my full name with a secondary e-mail, which I have also listed in Contacts, with no tile

If I take 1, everything works as usual.

If I take 2 or 3, Photos makes a new person with just my name. It does not automatically fill in the rest of my name. I find myself with two entrances of the person, one with my full name and one with my name. I then merge these. This happens with all the people, not just me.

I have the same problem. When I want to manually add a face without a name/person, I get very often 2 proposals:

    (1) the person sought with the profile photo, the first name and family name. If a picture is displayed, this means that I have already assigned photos to this person.

    (2) the same person, with or without a profile picture, with name, surname and e-mail. This proposal seems to come from my contacts, because it shows the same profile photo and mail the address I have for this person in my contacts.

If I add the photo to the contact person, the person is added as a person in Photos. But with only the name, not the name, which is a little ridiculous, especially when you are systematically adding people and having many with the same name.

I merge the two to get back 1 "individual" in photos, with first and last name (first and last).

So somehow Photos is not capable of matching 'people' in photos to anyone in my contacts list. Even when you merged the two and said Photos this way they need to be put in correspondence.

  • Portege M200 display issues

Hello. I just got my new M200 tablet pc, but the display is sluggy compared to my screen Tecra S1. Looks like there is something on top of the display Assembly that makes sluggy image and the colors too. This can be seen especially on white background. Is there a plastic to remove, because I looked and I think he does not like or is it normal for the tablet PC?

    Hello

The Portege M200 LCD screen is covered with a protective mask. This protective film is integrated into the LCD mask to prevent scratches on the LCD Panel - caused from dirt or handling - caused by the use of the pen.
You can't compare these two screens (Portege Tecra) for Portege is tablet pc with the protective mask and Tecra has a very different display with other properties.

    Good bye

  • From a Portege M200 battery mode screen

Hello, first sorry for my English, I am not totally bilingual.
So I got a Portege M200, with the model number: PPM21E-02QFZ-FR, serial number: 55893043G

This work of the computer laptop but fine * when I unplug the AC adapter black screen come *, when I reconnect light screen again (he continues to work, but without screen because it serves not next).

I have try the Fn + F5 combination, not worked, try to change performance settings in windows, without change.

When I go into the BIOS I can make it happen this problem even if the AC is plugged by changing the value of the field 'battery saving mode' to 'full power' to the other (when I change the screen turns off the coast).

do you know how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance

    > This laptop work well, but when I unplug the power of the screen in black, when I reconnect light screen again (he continues to work, but without screen because it does not fuel nearby).

Sorry I mate m afraid I did not understand it correctly.
If you unplug the AC adapter, the screen turns off.
But what happens if the power adapter is connected again? You say that screen lights up again, but then said you that you can work but no screen.

    So I'm confused now

In my opinion, you should check the Windows power options.
Usually, if the AC adapter should be disconnected, the laptop will switch to another power plant (battery mode).
In my opinion, you should check the settings of the power station, which is used if the AC adapter is disconnected.
