  The difference between these models (and the 5745) are content to include the box according to where you buy, like maybe one of these models can have the USB cable included in the box, which is not the other.  It is a HP reseller application, but in regards to the product specification, they are the same.

  Hello

  I have a 5740 which is defined as a remote wireless printer by itself in my home network.

  Recently, I received the message 'printer is in an error state' when I press print and found out the print job will be lance automatically, only after I turned the printer off and restarted. What happened several times. I tried to use HP & Doc Scan printing, but this did not help.

  Appreciate your advice on the following points: -.

  1. What is the cause for this?

  2. connecting the printer via the USB port on my HP All in one PC would help eliminate this recurring issue?

  3. If Yes, should I uninstall the printer software first?

  4. always print wireless from my laptop or mobile devices when the printer is connected via a cable to my PC?

  What do I have to uninstall and reinstall the software for printing these devices as well?

  5. when I reinstalled the software, it come a last step where it will ask me to register so far HP ink. As I have already registered for the program, what should I do to allow me to complete the installation of the software without duplicating a new series of HP ink instant registration?

  Thanks for joining the Forums of HP Support for a solution to your printer problem.

  I understand that you use a HP Officejet 5740 e-all-in-one printer with a Windows 10 computer and you need to restart the printer to clear a State of 'error', so the printer will print. I would like to help with that.

  There are also a few different reasons why something like this can happen. It could possibly be network or firewall related, or maybe even related software.

  I would like to begin by downloading and running the tool HP Print and Scan Doctor to check the installed printer software. This tool can diagnose and solve many problems of printing software and printer.

  You can also check to make sure that the printer firmware is up-to-date. On the Control Panel Home screen controle control printer, drag your finger from right to left on the screen and select Setup. In the menu select Maintenance of the printerconfiguration, and then select update of the printer, and then look for the updates of the printer.

  If the printer doesn't have the printing problem with PC and not with cell phones and mobile devices, you can try following the steps described in this document of support - printer is offline (Windows).

  If you plan to use a USB between PC and the printer connection, you do not need to uninstall the software, you just remove the printer devices and printers on the computer and connect the USB cable.

  You can always the printer wirelessly with other devices if you have a computer with a USB cable.

  Finally, you need not re-register with the HP Instant ink. You can close the windows when they open after you have installed the software.

• Install HP Officejet 5740 & USB connection problems

  I recently bought a HP all-in-one OfficeJet 5740 printer for my desktop Dell XPS 8700-(Windows 8.1) and attempted to install, using the USB connection option. I was informed by the instructions of configuration to go online to a Dell website for the latest version of the installation software to download if I had access to the internet. I have DL'ed software and it apparently installed OK-(aucune erreur ou quoi que ce soit pour indiquer qu'il n'a pas abouti). Once finished with the installation of the software, I got to the window option connection-(wireless, usb cable ethernet cable). I chose the option of usb cable, however after having to then connect the USB cable to the printer and the computer via the usb cable, it tries to connect, but alerted me, stating; "Failed connection to printer, printer was not able to connect successfully via the usb cable. I tried this several times-(par moi-même et remote assist avec Support ordinateur Dell). I had the same problem last week when he tried with my old HP Officejet 6100, which I wanted to replace. I ran the program of doctor printing/scanning HP on the 5740 and it lists the printer and the software installed, however the HP printer install lists assistant the complete software package for the printer is not installed and some basic features drivers may be missing or damaged. Also when I go into Control Panel, then devices/printers, it displays the icon of 5740, however after rt - by clicking on the printer icon, instead of the regular menu that comes up to the top-(showing the complete properties, select this printer as the default printer, etc.), it displays a menu of smaller selections very-little (who don't understand not the "select as default printer"). I tried downloading the printer software two ways-(via the HP website on line 1, and then click the installation CD supplied with the printer, the same results. The printer was purchased 11/15/2014 and seems works very well-(tirages test-page, page d'alignement, etc.), but I can't print anything, and apparently it can not connect via the USB-(* j'ai acheté un nouveau câble usb 2.0 hier et, utilisé pour écarter la possibilité d'avoir un mauvais câble). My Dell computer is only 10 months old, and I upgraded to 8.1 Windows back on 25 October.  The USB ports on the computer all seem to work properly when connected to another USB device other than the 5740 printer.  What is the software apparently is not fully installed, with some missing drivers or, possibly, USB drivers should be updated? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!!

  Thanks for responding, but I was able to get the printer installed with the help of diagnostic, remotely in line with my computer manufacturer support staff. He was determined to be a software problem because of a recent update of Windows 8.1. Thanks for the effort!

  Like one time, I put a password on my site Admin for my printer. I tried a network definition reset to remove the password, but it's still there.

  We will need restore your default network settings to reset the admin password. You can access the Menu on the front panel of the printer wirelessly and locate the default network option here.

  1 printer e-mail is very useful for ePrint. You can send a file supported document formats from anywhere (with internet access) in this word in your printer to print because it is also connected to the internet.

• OfficeJet 5740 e-all-in-one: the printer display shows 'downloading' message despite no web service implemented

  I got a new Officejet 5740 e-all-in-one and put in place a few days ago. It is implemented in a router which is also a modem.  I've implemented any web service.  My network is password protected, and I'm the only one on this subject.

  A couple of times I arrived in front of the printer and there was a screen that says that there is a current download, and he showed the percent completed. This surprised me because I have not implemented in web services for the printer.

  I cancelled the download, both times.  The second time I accidentally typed the screen again.  I don't know what button I hit, but it has printed a message that says that my printer is now web enabled.  He also says that my printer has an email address.

  I went into the web installer, and it seemed to me that I had not implemented the web.

  1. what could it possibly download?

  2. If it does not complete a download while I'm not looking for, will there be a record of this?

  I understand that you use a 5740 Officejet from HP printer e-all-in-one with a computer of Windows 7 and you noticed that the screen of the printer said there was a current download, which you surprised because you but you did not set up web services. I would like to help with that.

  You mentioned that the printer has its own e-mail address. Web services have been enabled for the printer to have an address of mail @hpeprint.com. It is possible to disable the ePrint and printable HP once the HP Web Services has been enabled.

  The download that was underway was probably a printer update, which will come by automatically. Nothing to do with the computer. I don't think there is a record of updates of the printer anywhere.

  I see that you have a problem with printing from the PC using your HP Officejet 5740 e-all-in-one printer. I want to help you with this. I have some suggestions that might help.

  I recommend you try the following steps:

  Remove the temporary PC files:

  • Press the Windows key + r
  • Type %temp%, and then press enter
  • Press Ctrl + a to select all files
  • Press Delete
  • Note that some files do not delete - do not worry, this is normal. Simply click ignore that you're prompted.
  • Empty your trash at the end.

  Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Click here to install and run the printing and scanning doctor. This utility is designed to detect and automatically fix common printer setup problems.

  If you still experience the guest fax after these steps I suggest you uninstall the printer and redo your printer setup.

  Uninstall your printer

  • Press the Windows key + r
  • Type of control panel and press enter
  • Click on programs and features
  • Select the driver for your printer from the list, and then click on uninstall
  • Click here to reinstall your printer.

• OfficeJet HP 5740: HP Officejet 5740 TWAIN problem for scanning

  I have a new printer.  It worked fine for the first two weeks.

  Now I can print but when I try to scan from an application I get the message

  "TWAIN HP HP Officejet 5740 series is not found"

  I tried to stop and restart the WIA service, as recommended in some other posts.

  The error message I get is

  "Error 1061 the service cannot accept control messages at this time."

  I also tried the HP scanning tool but it gets stuck (for days) to the point where it will search for the WIA.

  Any suggestions on what to try next?

• OfficeJet 5740: Cannot fax from the computer

  My new Officejet 5740, purchased on 11/15/14, worked fine until February 2015 - no problem with any of its functions, including faxes.

  That was all the time I went from a wireless connection to a USB connection and since then out of faxes cannot be sent from the computer, even if they can be sent from the printer by using the LED screen. There is no problem with the incoming faxes.

  Sending the printer with the LED screen is a nuisance of errors compared to the convenience of use of the computer. Lengthy discussions with HP Technical Support have been of any help. The technicians seem to think I should just give up and use the LED screen on the printer.

  After trying in vain to send an outgoing fax using the computer, the Fax status window appears saying "queue... "as the status of the fax, and it never goes one further.

  Is it possible that my passage in wireless USB connection type caused the problem? Maybe I need a different driver? If Yes, where can I download one, and what should I go for? Thank you.

  Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! I see that you are not able to send a fax from your HP Officejet 5740 computer, you can send a fax from the front panel.

  I think you just need to update the drivers and software, please proceed with the following steps:

  1. disconnect the USB key if you use a direct connection.

  2. remove the HP software JO 5740 uninstall from the control panel of your computers an option of the program.

  3. restart the computer.

  4. make sure that all them that software JO 5740 has disappeared from the list of programs, but also your HP folder listed under all programs in your Start Menu.

  5. now, go ahead and download the software and drivers for your JO 5740 (DO NOT connect USB until the software prompts you to):

  6. go ahead and print a test page.

• OfficeJet 5740: using the photo tray

  having the same problem as the other. Cannot get the printer to use the photo with photo tray 4 tray x 6.  But I did specify in setings to use the photo tray.  My new 5741 DID see and recognize the tray and paper but invariably printed on paper 8 x 10.  ?????  using windows 8.1 and photo gallery.

  I read your post on your Officejet 5740 do not print to the photo thew tray and wanted to meet you with my suggestions. If you have not tried to uninstall the printer software, restart the PC and then reinstall the printer once again, try it. You can run the Installation Wizard for Windows HP printer to find and install the printer for you.

  Let me know what happens when you try to print to the photo tray afterwards. Try another program to see if that makes a difference.

• HP Officejet 5740: Why HP Utility say that my softward scanning must be updated?

  I had 3 scans this afternoon.   Tonight, I tried to start a new search and got the error message on the front of the printer that it is not connected to the computer.   Also, I realize that for about the past 6 hours, 3 files I sent to print, not print.

  The utility HP says I need to download the current software.    The software part of the HP Web site says that the last update the software of the printer for my model was done in December 2015.

  So, what should I do?  Simply download and install the software again?

  When I try to print a MS Word document to a 5 "wide x 12" sheet of labels, I get the following error message:

  I tried to set the paper size in the Word document and using the HP printer Assistant but without success.

  Is it possible this model only supports printing A4 (in which case what is the Photo tray for?).
