Official support for nested virtualization VMware

VMware officially supports virtualization nested in production with ESX 5.5 environments?

This article implies VMware does not support, but fails to mention ESXI 5.5:

VMware KB: Support for ESXi/ESX implementation as a nested virtualization solution

This document is kind of contradict:

Nested VMs running

It is said:

"Virtualisee HV is fully supported for hardware virtual version 9 or 10 virtual machines on the hosts that support Intel VT - x or AMD - V and EPT of IVR. To enable virtualized HV, select VM-> settings and navigate to the processor settings screen. Check the box next to 'Virtualiser Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/IVR.'

And a fe down paragraphs:

"ESX (i) can be used as a hypervisor reviews to learn more about the VMware Server products, experiment with Server installation, training, show demos and configurations of test." VMware does not support nested ESX (i) servers running in production environments. ESX (i) problems running in a nested configuration fall outside the agreements of level of Service and Support of VMware. »

The article quoted deals only ESXi as a guest.

Virtualized HV is supported as a CPU function virtual when used by a Type 2 hypervisor running under any operating system supported by.

  • Officially supported for ESXi4 SD cards?

    Hi all:

Someone has managed to find a list of 'officially' supported or certified for integrated ESXi4 SD cards? I've raked by communities, compatibility guides, sites of the seller, etc and can't find no official statement.

    Thank you!

    Dave

There is not a similar list.

Most providers use Kingston for ESXi embedded... but also other products works very well.

  • Official support for Windows 7?

    All,

I searched on the pages for the answer to this and not yet found, please be gentle if I missed it.

Ships of Windows 7 in October 2009 and I have worked very happily with the Beta and LR 2.4.

(Although some printing issues with trying to print the entire catalog rather than the selected image (quick catalog used to solve this))

LR will get its official adhesive thumbnail of Windows 7 in this period of time, or that it will be longer?

(I know that Adobe gives no dates, I am only after being reassured because I want to update my two computers for W7 and remove Vista & XP)

Thank you very much in advance for the help and pointers

    Simon

As Geoff said there is no official word or semi-official adobe on win7, because it's not yet released.  Adobe (and all other companies than that).  I remember that they stayed mum on the imminent release of OS x 10.5, and I don't know that the same issues were raised with Vista.  Given that the release is soon and LR works for you on the beta version. I just relax and wait for word (or an update) from adobe.  If an update is required, they are already working on it, if it does not need, then they will provide the certified on win7 info you are looking for after win7 comes on the market.

  • Support for VIX?

If I intend to use VIX and have a question, is it official support for it through VMware technical support (i.e. can I submit an SR)? If so, it is part of standard support or something that is a supplement to the cost?

    Hello

It depends on two things 1) who you are and 2) what you do.

First, who you are. VMware has a generic strategy software anomalythat applies to VIX as well as any other VMware software. The key here is "active support agreement.

Secondly, what you're doing. If programs within VIX as vmrun crash, it's easy, you can file a SR.

OTOH, if you are an ISV and your software crashes and you suspect VIX to be the reason why, it can be difficult to get a SR filed because you must be able to demonstrate that it is a problem with VIX. In cases like these forum support is your only real solution. We do monitor these forums and respond to bugs reported here, although the lead time is currently rather unpredictable.

  • Official Firefox support for business

    Dear Sir.
I work for an international company that develops the program of the web server and it must be aligned on all browsers. It is now declared compatible with IE and next will be Firefox. Since the Firefox help page, indicated that support is done by volunteers all over the world. It is superb! In any case, I would like to know if Firefox has a channel of official support for business specifically? (Like having response time or root cause date deadline)

    Thanks and regards,

Nope - community support is all that is currently available

  • NB100: Where the official 3G for Win7 drivers?

Toshiba has released all drivers for Windows 7, but still no driver 3G official!

P.S. drivers for NB200 not 100% compatible and windows sometimes loses 3G modem after sleep/hibernate mode.

Can you please send us your NB100 model number?

  • DV6-7002tx B0P07PA Windows 8.1 official support, list of drivers

Hello, I own a B0P07PA dv6-7002tx for a year and a half, running windows 8.1, but I have a few questions, wifi is not always properly started during boot, HD4000 drivers aren't perfect either, I have the problem of video shift under Firefox.

Worse still, Windows 8.1 released for awhile now, and there is still no word from HP on the official for Windows 8.1 support, nor the list of updated drivers for a quad core I7 edition Ivy bridge, it's a bit difficult to understand that there is no list of official drivers released yet, essentially playing with some forums to try to get the work of the other models of HP drivers , but it is far from ideal.

Could we please get a list of updated drivers (some drivers are dated from 2012 and we turned to 2014).

I even had a problem with the update Windows 8.1 on HD4000 since my laptop starts with a blankscreen, had to return to the odler driver to be able to start. It's something that I understand myself being advanced user, but how many customers is left aside without a list of appropriate, drivers who is tested and tested by HP, Windows 8.1 RC was released over 6 months ago, 8.1 to Windows itself has published about 3 months ago and still nothing updated.
With the update for Windows 8.1 is free for users of Windows 8, and for a list of Windows 8 official but outdated drivers exists on the page of official support for this laptop, all hope that a such high end laptop becomes the proper drivers update it deserves?

Thank you for visiting the Forums from HP Support. I'm sorry but this is a community of peer-to-peer HP customers and not a venue to contact HP directly. Most of the users here is consumers like yourself that offer solutions because they like to help others and HP employees that you see are here on their own abilities and not representing does not society.

  • Support for PCIe storage

Are they compatible? If so, which would you recommend?
    I'm under S30 with Windows 7.

Official support for PCIe SSD didn't happen until the P500/700/900 series. However, PCIe SSD will work on the S30, albeit without bootable media.

Since no hard drive have been officially qualified, should really a specific recommendation here. Many AHCI or NVMe with SSD should work without much effort, although anything NVMe will need a driver. My personal choice would go to Samsung or Intel, as I've had the most experience with them. Samsung can be done via PCIe cards m2 and Intel has some native PCIe solutions.

What are your needs here? What volume of storage and what is your purpose of speed? Knowing that might help to point you in the right direction.

  • Virtual ESXi / nested virtualization and VCA

    Hi all

We tried to install some new virtual ESXi servers in our dev environment. to help our R & D.

The problem is that our clusters must be activated EVC - Merom Genesis so that R & D for work stuff.

I tried to use the following two articles:

    http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2011/07/how-to-enable-support-for-nested-64bit.html

    http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2012/02/how-to-configure-nested-ESXi-5-to.html

After finishing the first link, the ESXi virtual is able to run 64-bit virtual machines. So all is well (although I stumbled upon both problems with this - apparently, you can't physical host the virtual ESX running in a CVS in the first place of accommodation).

So after the ESXi virtual is able to run machines virtual 64-bit, I continue to the 2nd link and it doesn't work. I do exactly what the guy said there is still the virtual ESXi is not compatible with the EVC cluster and the 64 bit hosted on the virtual ESXi VM cannot run after changes to the CPUID mask.

Someone knows something similar? Someone has ideas of what I'm doing wrong or can give me some ideas on what to do?

    Thanks in advance,

    Nitzan.

In my view, the following option:

    CPUID.1.ECX = 00000000000000001010001000011001

    should be

    CPUID.1.ECX = 00000000000000001010001000111001

  • Windows 7 support for this tool?

I couldn't find a discussion for this. It does not appear the vSphere update 1 in the CLI of power versions or the vSphere CLI are supported in WIndows 7 (at least according to the release notes).

Did someone use these Windows 7 now?

Are there precautions or system changes that you have made?

Any ideas on when these tools will be supported on Windows 7?

Most of the PowerCLI is purely managed code .NET, I expect the majority of our cmdlets to work correctly on W7. This isn't a guarantee, just my guess.

The exception is that we have some cmdlets that use the VIX library. It is what gives us various operations of comments. This includes Invoke VMScript, copy-VMGuestFile, etc. These things may very well not work on W7. When we have official support for W7 part of it will be to make sure it works.

  • T of what guest operating systems will start the VMware Support for EFI?

Is there a list of support guest OS for the EFI firmware?  Mianly supported by VMware - do not try, fail, call support technique etc etc.   My experiences on the TP forums, I guess that there is not.  Some OS (such as Windows Server) come with a screen to choose BIOS/EFI firmware.  If not, you need to go to setting > Hard Drive OPtions-> advanced _ > boot using EFI.  In particular there at - it versions of Linux that you give you option of BIOS/EFI firmware before the confutation of VM is complete, so the hard drive then be custom.

We will officially support the EFI firmware for any guest operating system to which all the following conditions are met:

    • We list this guest operating system, supported in the VMware Compatibility Guide for operating systems and your virtualization product.
    • The guest operating system supports EFI in the operating system installation media.
    • Support the guest OS EFI has no catastrophic flaws (for example Fedora 12 x 64, FreeBSD 11, Centos 6.0 through all the 6.2 have catastrophic flaws).

New computer virtual assistant of 11 workstation has only the option of EFI firmware for Windows clients.  Special mention, do not yet support us Easy Install for non EFI customers in 11 workstations.  For all other customer support EFI OSes, you can do a manual installation after choosing the EFI firmware in the virtual machine settings > Options > Advanced > Boot with EFI instead of the BIOS.

I don't understand your concern about the personalization of the hard drive... Could you elaborate?

    See you soon,.

  • Support for virtualization on Satellite C855

    Hello

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite C855 29N. I am trying to run the virtualization on it, but running on the following questions:

    VMware Player;
This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit operating systems. However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.
This host is not compatible Intel VT - x.

On the attempt of activation of Microsoft Hyper-V platform:
Hyper-V cannot be installed. The processor has no virtualization required capabilities.

The BIOS settings for the virtualization technology configured only for VT - x (another option is "off").

Even if the laptop was advertised as an i3 - 2350 m, it actually comes with an Intel Pentium B960, which some "Googling" suggests that he does not support VT

I hope someone can tell me if I have a chance of running VMware or Hyper-V on this laptop I have a small window in which return it if it proves inadequate.

    See you soon

AFAIK all you can do is change the settings in the BIOS and use available options. No more than that.

  • ESXi nested 5.0 FT question-> i7-2600, not supported for FT?

Hi guys, I had an i7-2600 on a motherboard ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen 3 as a whitebox ESXi 5.0 configuration.

I virtualized 2 ESXi 5.0 in a cluster with a nested running Linux VM vMotion & Storage vMotion works very well.

If I turn on the FT central while nested VM is running, I get this error:
The virtual machine is running in a monitor mode that is not compatible to the fault tolerance.

If I stop the nested VM and enable FT, I met following th:
An unexpected error was received from the ESX host turning on VM vm-441.
Unable to access the mode for fault tolerance.
Recording/playback is supported for VMS 64-bit only on some processors. Cancellation of recording/playback.

I applied the settings of such reading mentioned in http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2011/07/how-to-enable-nested-vft-virtual-fault.html
    the Linux VM nested.

Stock of Intel VT physics 5.0 ESXi host and two guests of vESXi:
    ~ # esxcfg-info | grep "HV Support"
    |----HV Support............................................ 3
    | - World Command Line... grep HV Support

SiteSurvey on the host physical and vESXi hosts all showed:
Intel Core i7-2600 3.40 GHz CPU processor type is not supported by FT.

Am I right to say that in my current setup nested FT should work if I changed the CPU to one of those enrolled in
    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1008027

OR are having at least 2 physical ESX hosts the only way to have the full support of the FT?

    jarxale wrote:

I'm sorry.  I would have paid special attention to your message.  FT is not actually supported in a nested environment.  Proofreading of the translation binary (replay.allowBTOnly) is not supported and is available for 32 - bit reduced nested.
