Oracle 11 g 2 on WIN 2008 Server R2 on top of Citrix XenServer 5.5

Hello

According to the policies of Support Unbreakable Linux to virtualization and emulation:
"Oracle products are not certified to run on the operating systems on top of Red Hat, Novell SLES or Citrix XenServer Enterprise Edition Xen hypervisors."

This applies in my case: Oracle 11 g 2 on WIN 2008 Server R2 on top of Citrix XenServer 5.5 (or only if I have a Linux distribution installed on top of Citrix).
And does that mean exactly?

That is absolutely right.

Nicolas.

  • Oracle 10g 32-bit (win 2003) to Oracle 11 g 64-bit (Win 2008)

    Hello

I am a beginner on Oracle DB side. I have 2 Windows servers

"Win Server A - current Prod" whose configuration is as follows

    O / s: win 2003 R2 sp2 (32-bit o/s)
    Oracle DB: 10.2.0.4 32bits
    DB Dimensions: 50 GB
    NLS_CHARACTERSET: AL32UTF8

"Win Server B - to be new Prod" whose configuration is the following
    O / s: win 2008 R2 sp1 (64-bit o/s)
Installation 11.2.0.3 planning software 64-bit db
    NLS_CHARACTERSET: AL32UTF8

I need to move/migration/upgrade my db 10g and 11g db on the latest version of win o/s on ServerB.

What are the options I have for db upgrade? After a little research on Google I did, it is what I found

    (1) OPTION 1: install 11.2.0.3 software on server B, create empty db, then take datapump exp of patterns non-system (from 10 g) and import it on 11 g
    (2) OPTION 2: do something through clone RMAN... not 100% sure how it works and what great advantage I have is going to get compared to OPTION 1
    (3) OPTION 3: install 10.2.0.1 on 'ServerB', upgrade to 10.2.0.4 via the Group of hotfixes. Then using the upgrade database Wizard, perform an upgrade of 10.2.04 to 11.2.0.3. I don't know if 10.2.0.4 is compatible with Win 2008 R2 SP1.

Option 3 is seems to be safer and better.

Can someone give me some advice, metalink not. who can put me on the right track. NLS_Characterset remains the same.

Would there be a problem due to the fact that 10g we use is 32 bit and we would go to 64-bit Oracle.

    Concerning

    Learner

The simplest option uses the Data Pump utilities.

If your application uses only some of the schema, export/import only those schema.

Please do it on a test first, configuration so that you can test the connection and the behavior of applications.

    Thank you.

  • Fixing bad block on the Win 2008 Server backup volume

Since win 2008 backups mount the volume but do not assign a drive letter to the backup volumes, what is the best way to check for bad blocks on a backup volume? Is there a special way to run chkdsk? Or I have to remove it from the backup pool, format, assign a drive letter, run chkdsk and then try to add it to the pool?

  • Win 2008 Server iSCSI San installation

Hi, Im trying to install win server 2008 on a discovered iscsi lun. To do that I need to load my kmdf basic bus driver and one pilot iscsi initiator additional in order to discover the LUNs during installation.

Win 2008 has 1.7 kmdf library by default. So to install 1.9 kmdf library in it, I added the Windows6 package. 0-KB970158 - x 86 .cab in the install.wim file. With this, the installation is complete. But when the operating system starts for the first time, my bus kmdf driver does not load completely. Only the Driverentry routine is called. EvtAddDevice routine is not called. So, accordingly, I see a BSOD saying that boot partition not found. Any kind of suspicion would be useful.

  • Effect of bringing a child to a Windows Server 2008 VDMK to an another Win 2008 Server

I was looking for the product documentation, communities and delivery over the Internet, but I fear that I am using the wrong keywords.

The trail has gone cold, and I'm here.  I work with the Client of VI 2.5.0.147704 connected to vCenter.

SVR1 = I have a virtual machine with 2008 standard which has a C: partition for OS and a D: drive with data on 'the island '.

SVR2 = I have another server with 2008 which was just a disc parent - the C: partition.

All discs are in the same data store and I am responsible for the backup of my data before proceeding.

I want to stop SVR1 and move the SVR2 VMDK, but I want to perform due diligence before making the move.

I think I need to go to the correct data store and move the SVR1_1.vdmk of the SVR1 folder to the SVR2 folder.

Then, I want to rename the VDMK of SVR1_1.vdmk to SVR2_1.vdmk.  Here are my questions...

1 when I move the drive, can I just move the secondary image (the disk "_1") or do I need other files related to disk?

    2. when I boot SVR2, can I import the disk in Windows and assign it the letter D:?

    3. have I accounted for all the appropriate things associated with something like this?

If someone is able and willing to help with this issue, any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

I practice the planned move. Use the stand-alone converter tool to make a copy of your destination server to a new virtual machine on the same ESXi host. COPY the VR1_1.vdmk on the newly created virtual machine and add the vmdk on the server. Change the settings to disconnect from the NETWORK card and test your virtual machine to make sure that the installation works as expected.

The SVR1_1.vdmk that display you in the data store Navigator is actually composed of 2 files. The SVR1_1.vdmk is actually just a text file descriptor describing the vmdk. The data is actually stored in SVR1_1 - flat .vdmk, whereby it is not visible in the browser. When you do a copy to move the SVR1_1.vdmk using the browser data store both the SVR1_1.vdmk and the SVR1_1 - flat .vdmk file is moved or copied. If you use another tool or the command line to move or copy, you must make sure that you move or copy the two files.

Adding a windows vmdk is no different than adding a disk on a physical machine. Once you have edited the machine virtual and added the disk, it will be automatically recognized by Windows. If you add HOT then you will need to use the Manager of Dick rescan the disks so that it is visible. It will automatically take the next drive letter as it would on a physical machine.

  • Out with the old WinXP box in with Win 7 - recognition problems 2008 Server box

Our box office WinXP was finally cut off (the last, all the others are Win 7).  I built a new area of Win 7/64 with Windows 7 Professional.  I was able to transfer all the old stuff from WinXP on the server by using the parameters of conduct transfer agent.

I plugged the new Win 7 box and everything works fine.  However, I can't get our Win 2008 Server to recognize the new box.  User dave is there but the server does not see the new box.

Q: should I remove user "dave", and then reinstall a new "dave" at the server level?  Seems that I would lose settings, etc. like this.

I've been going through Hester and Henley on Admin book, but nothing comes out with me.

If you have configured Active Directory, then you should be able to join your domain from the Windows 7 machine as you would for Windows XP. Please note that you may experience problems if your Local network connection is firewall, as well as temporarily disable and try again.

Looks like this Vista driver is not fully compatible with Win 2008 Server and therefore you receive and BSOD

Seems you have to use this operating system without this special driver

  • Uninstalling Oracle 11 g RAC from a Windows Server 2008 Server

Try to uninstall Oracle 11 g RAC from a Windows Server 2008.

    Following the instructions: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e25666/rem_orcl.htm

I was able to run the batch: C:\app\oracle\product > 11.2.0\dbhome_1\deinstall\deinstall.bat

    Last messages spoke uninstall successfully.

However, I had problems trying to delete the folder directory. According
Oracle forums, on Windows there are known problems this generic
"svchost.exe" process blocks some Oracle DLLs at startup time. To solve
the question that I followed the instructions:

    (1) rename %ORACLE_HOME%\bin to something else 2) reboot the machine 3) now remove the complete file

Then I went to the registry and delete the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle

    Restart the machine.

Problem is that Oracle Services still exists on Windows Services (services.msc). So I see it again:

    -Oracle Service object
    -OracleASMService + ASM1
    -OracleJobSchedulerINTER1
    -OracleOHService
    -OracleOraCrs11g_home1TNSListener
    -OracleOraCrs11g_home1TNSListenerLISTENER_SCAN1
    -OracleServiceINTER1
These services link to executable files are deleted as:

    C:\app\11.2.0\grid\BIN\TNSLSNR

because directory folder has been deleted.

What should I do to remove these Windows services?

    Hello

You can try the following command to remove services in windows server 2008

Since the prompt command (run as administrator)

Prompt > sc delete "service name".

In this case, your command would look like

Prompt > sc delete "Oracle Service object.

Let me know if it helps

    See you soon,.

    Hello
I try to install the Oracle Client 32-bit to the Oracle 64-bit on Windows 2008 server R2x64 I database I need to run my 32-bit application.

    What I did:

    1. install 64-bit Oracle database (10.2.0.4). My oracle is: "C:\oracle\orcl" and my service in the file name tnsnames is: "orcl".
    2. install Oracle 32-bit Production Client (10.2.0.3) to the: "C:\oracle\orcl1."
    Copy C:\oracle\orcl\network\admin to C:\oracle\orcl1\network\admin tnsnames
    ' 3. in the cmd prompt, I used: set oracle_home = c:\oracle\orcl1.
    4. on the way of Environment Variables, I put: "c:\oracle\orcl1\bin."

.. .but it still does not work. I don't know where I mistake and what to do.
When I try to run my application I get an error: unable to load a library service IDAPI. SQLORA32.dll

    Thx for the advice

What I would do, is to use 32-bit Oracle 11 client.

    This file:

    win32_11gR2_client.zip

I use a windows 64-bit and Oracle 10 system as customer Oracle 11 64-bit gave me fits.

Once I switched to the 32-bit client Oracle 11 stopped all my problems.
