Oracle database on windows
Hi, I have installed oracle 11g on windows to test the object. I am facing a few questions:(1) after connecting to the database. I ran the command "Shutdown". I took a lot of time. but after that I ran the startup. now, the database does not start uo back.
It is said: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
(2) how can we check the status of the database, either running or down
I know that in linux, we can check it in ps - ux | grep tns
is there a similar command in windows
(3) in addition, I created the general database using dbca utility. but it has not made the default tables. IE emp, dept etc.
I guess these are the base that is created tables.
Thank you

Hello
I use here an example dbname is orcl
1. Please check the pfile is present. ORACLE_HOME\database\initorcl.ora
2. Please check the services.msc as vinayak said.if Oracleserviceorcl function isn't there, create the service as c:\...>oradim-nouveau - sid orcl syspwd - sys
3. the service must be present and started.if not... start it by right click--> Start.
4. set the oracle_sid = oracle_sid.c:\...>set * orcl *.
5. check if it is set.c:\...>echo '% oracle_sid % '.
6. connect to oracle sys as sysdba c:\...>sqlplus
7. starting the database instance.c:\...>startup
8. see the status of the instance.c:\...sql>select of v$ instance;
9. see the status of the database.c:\...sql>select of the v database open_mode $;
If you get an error, please report it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello
Given the version of your database is 9.2.0.8 and you want to upgrade to 11.2.0.4 and 9i database is running with log mode archive
I have plan.
(1) your database 9i working with the log mode archive Server 2003
(2) you can take backup of Database 9i with RMAN
(3) you can restore the backup to the base in 2008 (by using 11.2.0.4 software)
(4) when the recovery is complete, you can open the database with resetlogs option upgrade.
change the upgrade of open database resetlog.
(5) once the database is open, you can run 'Upgrade PROCESS'
(6) it should complete your upgrade in 2008
If you think, restoration and recovery will take time, so you can install physics Eve with 11.2.0.4 version in 2008 for the Database 9i.
During failover, you can recreate the controlfile and open the database ' change the upgrade of database open resetlog. "
you will need to check the compatibility with the help from under documents

Linux and oracle database installation best practices windows
can anyone recommend the guide of best practices for the installation/design of windows/Linux oracle database servers.
Microsoft, sql Server, provide a number of useful resources on the evolution of the default parameters that can die of hunger the operating system of resources, where to and where not to store the data in files/logs etc etc, but I've yet to find a similar guide for Oracle. Research on best practices during the installation/initial design in order to avoid the risk of recovery/redundancy later on any line, reliability, availability, performance. Guidance most welcome.

Hello
I started with Oracle Database 11g, with apex XE, fact the upgrade of the Apex 4.2.6 and to develop a small Application.
I wanted to connect to my computer (with step of database on this subject) from another computer Windows 7 B.
So I put Firefox: //A:8080/apex but I have only received a timeout.
Of course, on both computers there is a firewall of windows running, so I stopped on both systems, the firewall, but it is always the same.
In Explorer windows running on computer B, I can see data from computer A and both computers are in the same home-net group. (Sorry for my bad English).
Is there anyone who cann tell me how to get the connection running?
Maybe I saw the info on this in the textbooks, if it is there, please give me a hint.
Thank you very much

It is a symptom of textbooks classic does not have read and followed the original instructions to prepare the downloaded files. You should have two files zip files. They both must be decompressed in the same directory. If you unzip using Windows graphic interface - in right click on the name of the file and selecting "extract all...". "the default behavior will be to create a directory, the same name as the zip file and extract in it. Thus, file_1_of_2 pulls in directory_1_of_2 and file_2_of_2 extracted in directory_2_of_2. You must override this stupid behavior by default and specify the directory yourself. And specify the SAME directory for both files.
Or just go to a command prompt, change directories to the directory where the two zip files are located and deliver "unzip
" and "unzip ", and they will both be properly unpack to a directory named "database". -

How to start the oracle database server and its client in windows 8
Hi all
I am a new entry in this forum and I am a beginner with oracle database.
I always used SQL Server as the database, and it was easy to use after installation.
With management program configuration of SQL Server I could to start service SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) and the database server start!
With SQL Server management studio, I was able to launch the client application, then was to establish a connection to the server and everything worked great!
Now, how to work with the oracle database?
I installed the oracle server and client version 11g R2 in windows 8, but how do I start the database?... and how can I start the client application to query?
best wishes in advance.
PS: Sorry for my English.
If you are on the same machine, the only service that you absolutely need to start is the database service. In your case OracleServiceSYSDBA (hmmm... How did you find with this name?).
For queries, you can use SQL * Plus which should also be installed. If you want something GUI, you can use SQL Developer (you need to install separately I think).

Windows 7 Vs home Oracle Database 11g
Defar Experts,
I installed the oracle 11g database in windows 7 Home Edition.
The question appear whenever I have forcfe to close my windows operating system 7, my oracle service won't start normally.
Everyone knows about this problem?
Oracle is still not compatible with windows 7 32-bit Home Edition?
Thank you all.Oracle does not work on any Windows Home Edition, as Windows Home isn't accounts.
You need to upgrade, or to alias to a real operating system, Linux.
Please stop installing Oracle on Windows Home.
Apart from that, only 11 GR 2 is certified on Windows 7.---------
