Palm Pre acts as a Wifi device

Hello

I heard (wrongly?) that there is an application that allows the pre to act as a device for generation of Wifi - is this true?

Very good - thank you two.  I was just looking for a way to drive my iPod Touch when I wasn't near a wifi source.

  • More Palm pre WiFi and AT & T

I just bought a Palm Pre Plus for use with AT & T.   I have a few questions about the use of WiFi.

When AT & T tell me that WiFi is disabled on the palms of AT & T, are they just reference to the "attachment" function

which allows the phone to be used as a mobile hot spot?

If the phone is connected to my home WiFi network, it means I save data to use on my AT & T Bill?

Now that AT & T is the elimination of unlimited data plans, it is particularly important.

Thank you.  I hope someone can help.

Yes, they are referring to attach.

And Yes, connect your phone to your own WiFi network will save its use.

  • Palm Pre: Server generic Pop authentication errors

Ok.. I have more information on that. Tonight, I tried all settings using the WiFi. Since I have Cox as my ISP, I use smtp.central.cox.net as your outgoing mail server, no matter what the Server enter I use or address email that I want in the field "from". Cox blocked all outgoing traffic on port 25, unless it is intended for one of their SMTP servers. Well, to my amazement, as long as I put in the Server SMTP of Cox, it worked. Able to send and receive emails pop. So, which made me think. Maybe, just maybe, it's the same for the Sprint (but why would it? "Maybe the Pre is on a new attribution of IP of style and rules?)

So I tried. I logged in my sprint.com. Clicked on 'my tools online' and I went to "Create/change password" for "Email Server Password" under "productivity tools". To my surprise, it let me enter a password and actually saved it.

The strange thing is that he entered my e-mail address as "null". In other words, there is no e-mail address assigned. It is more than likely because "PCS mail" has been removed from characteristics of Sprints for a while now. But I thought since it was saved to a password, there probably used my NAI as the email address. So, I changed the server out to info:

    Outgoing server: smtp.sprintpcs.com
    Use authentication: Yes
Username: [email protected] (find it in your "device Info"-> 'more Info'-> 'NAI' (bottom))
Password: * (whatever you place for sub tools online @ sprint.com)
    Port: 25
    Encryption: no

And boom... worked. Sync'd fine... This raises a question, however: if I turn on the WiFi with smtp.sprintpcs.com listed as outgoing server, COX will block this message. It will allow traffic to send to smtp.sprintpcs.com on port 25. It should be set to go to smtp.central.cox.net. I think that the only real fix for that is to have Sprint (or is this Palm block in the software routing tables? You routers try 'iptables' if it is available. See if they are down on port 25 traffic if it is not intended to smtp.sprintpcs.com). unblock port 25 traffic.

More to come... I hope that I get more help on this issue, or have a few Palm expert chime in.

    Ok... I thought that more...

Since they block port 25, in some form or fasion, it is time to try port 465 (SSL). Welp, that works very well without having to use the shit SPRINT above. The problem with my ISP COX configuration was the SMTP Protocol. CENTRAL. COX.NET is the same as SMTP. EAST. COX.NET... which means the same IP, same machine. Well, that throws the SSL certificate. When the first tries to connect to SMTP. CENTRAL, he expects what he is the response from the server. NOPE... He would give his address as SMTP. EAST. So I changed my outgoing SMTP settings. EAST. COX.NET, use Auth: on, Cox username, password Cox, Port 465, SSL. Alto! Worked! It works through my WiFi as well since it is an outgoing Cox server.

With regard to my pop server personal, same thing. I had a problem with the SSL certificate is not properly. I fixed that and bingo, it worked as well on port 465. So, in conclusion, it seems that Palm has a kind of firewall software running (I guess Iptables) is a drop in traffic on port 25 which is not intended for smtp.sprintpcs.com. Why? Not a clue. Or, Sprint has assigned a new IP range/policy to the GER that prevents the traffic from port 25 is not intended for smtp.sprintpcs.com. Again, I think it's more the (Palm) Pre do not Sprint.

Now that I have this problem to the top. I'm out! Afterwards!

  • Multi-task on Palm Pre does not work

    Hi all

I was under the impression that it was possible on the Palm Pre multitasking.

When I start a spring Radio channel and launch a different application of the radio channel stops - unfortunately.

No idea what's wrong here? Of course, a radio app should be able to run in the background.

    Thank you!

    Sapag

Hello Sapag and thanks for posting...

When Sprint TV's request was written, the multi tasking was not enabled on the application itself.  This is partly by design.  Radio and video streaming strongly uses the battery.  In addition, the deployment of the device limited the amount of time developers had to tweek the current application for the Pre.  Remember, this is the first true multi-tasking OS for a mobile device.  As time passes, additional patches will be correct and/or add functionality to the device and apps built into the ROM.

Thanks for the comments and keep the questions coming...

    Thank you

  • Palm Pre - cable USB disconnect annoying message

Whenever I have my my Palm Pre USB cable, I get the "data has been corrupted, but was retrieved. Always take out your phone from your desktop computer before disconnecting"a message.

I get this even if I unplugged first using the icon 'Remove hardware safely' in my taskbar, to "Remove USB mass storage device".

All had experience of the world, and you have a suggestion about how this message can be deleted?  Or is this a bug with the current Palm OS 1.02?

You need to go to my computer and looking for Palm Pre as a hard drive. Right click and select eject and you stop trying to get this message.

  • Using Palm Pre Plus on Verizon without data plan?

    Hello people,

I'm trying to find out if it is possible to use a Palm Pre Plus on Verizon without data plan.

Right now I have six years old phone clamshell and an iPod touch in my pocket, and I'm looking to consolidate. In addition, locked position of Apple don't gives me the warm shudder blur. WebOS from Palm running on the emulator gives me the warm fuzzies.

Research on the issue with Google, I saw other people ask the question at the time was the Sprint Pre only. Apparently the Sprint did not yet allow activation of the phone without a data plan. In addition, the question of whether the palm profile account can be installed over wifi there.

I also met photos showing that WebOS 1.2 would have a toggle to disable the use of the map data.

So people, you guys what do you think? Is it possible that this is possible? Thank you!

I suggest you look at www.precentral.net work is around like this. It is outside my area of support, but I'm sure you can find what you need there message board.

  • New Palm used Palm Pre profile

    Hello

I bought a used Palm Pre (Movistar, YOU) and now want to create a new Palm profile so I can use the phone in Australia (Optus, at THE).

How to set up a new Palm profile on this phone?

He is currently running WebOS 1.4

    Thank you

    Nick

Regarding the hacks and things of this nature, it is something that we cannot help here.

Since the unit locked up on screen language then we would need to restart the device. If this does not resolve the issue, then you will need to use webOS Doctor on the device. Reason for this step is there is no way at this stage of the journal of the unit to do a partial/full erase.

  • Will there be an unlocked Version of the Palm Pre 3?

I am a Palm product user for a long time, looking to upgrade my Treo 650.  I want to buy a unlocked Palm and the only one that I see the Palm Pre 2 is available.  However in a few months, the Palm Pre 3 should be available.

Will there be an unlocked version of the Palm 3?

Unfortunately we cannot comment further about future products than what is displayed on our Web site right now, the Palm Pre 2 is available as an unlocked GSM device.

  • The Tungsten T3 for Palm Pre data migration

    Hello

I am the owner of a Palm Tungsten T3. I have a lot of contacts, calendar, tasks and Memo data in I want to migrate my new Palm Pre. I saw Palm information on how to move the data from Palm Desktop for the pre, using the data transfer Assistant (DTA). However, it seems to work for Palm Desktop v6.2. T3 is not compatible with v6.2, being the latest sw version v4.1.4.e.

When I launched DTA, I got an error. I tried several things and looked in the forums, but only to find tips for v6.2. In the end, I decided to upgrade to v6.2 in my Windows XP, but I skipped stage of synchronization with my camera (such as the T3 is not compatible). Then I run the DTA. This time, I got to the step when it asked me to connect my pre as a USB key. But after that, he tells me that Palm Desktop is installed, but contains no data to transfer. However, I can see my data in the desktop. My guess is that I could solve the problem if I could synchronize with a PDA compatible.

Can someone give me a hint on how to transfer data to my pre of my T3? Is this possible at all?

    Thank you

    T

You will not be the Tungsten T3 or the Palm Desktop 6.22 Pre - synchronization you will use as a vehicle to move the data into your pre.  I suggest that you use the command Export of Palm Desktop 4.1.4e for export data PIM (Contacts, calendar, tasks and Memos) out as a file in comma-delimited (.csv) as a backup before installing Palm Desktop 6.22 as the data upgrade process can not be cancelled.  If you need to go back to Palm Desktop 4.x and do not have a backup, you will be out of luck.

After you have backed up your data, I upgrade to Palm Desktop 6.22, DTA can migrate your data in the meadow and then synchronize the Pre with a Google account to access e-mail and calendar.

To fix your data problem in the second part of your post, you can try to install free third-party utility, PalmHotSyncSetup.  This changes the Windows for Palm Desktop registry keys so that he could support the older devices like the Tungsten T3.  You can download PalmDesktopHotSyncSetup from Pimlico Software Web site.

    Hope that helps,

  • Palm Pre Touchscreen works do not at all

My touchscreen palm pre is completely insensitive... I can't do anything at all...
    things I've tried:
-remove the battery for 1 min or more (maybe max 10 minutes)
-tried WebOS Doctor to restore (did not work said "cannot restore")

I'm really scared its broken for good. the last time it worked was this morning. I upgraded 1.2.1 nite last and then this morning I tried to open an application (and I did not pass the loadup screen) I hope that did nothing. then after I turned it off...  I tried to turn it on and use the touchscreen and it did not work at all. I want to know if my warranty covers replacement (I was on sprint for more than 30 days) and that so I have to pay anything. someone can give me a solution to my problem with touchscreen or should I just get a replacement

Please contact palm tech support online at the 877-426-3777. they can help you to test your device to see if it is broken or not.

If it's broken, then you must submit for repair. the cost of repair is free, since your unit is still under warranty of 1 year.

You can also opt to view sprint for replacement since they changed their policy of 30 days warranty for 1 year.

  • Speckled in the Palm Pre screen

Sprint replaced my Palm Pre because of a defect. Twice, they tried to give me a refurbished device where the screen has a model strongly and irregularly spotted, as if it were very dirty from below. The result is it is difficult to read the text in small print, and I get nauseous since a session extended with the phone. The Sprint Store recognizes that it's new and unusual, and they are at loss as to what is happening.

Sprint is yet another phone comes in next week, which I hope it will not have this problem, but nobody knows what's going on?

Sprint has been able to find a phone handed to nine without the mottled screen, so I am now a happy camper.

  • New to Palm pre more

I plan on getting a Palm Pre Plus and I was wondering what people had to say about the phone.

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!

I like it. Thanks to the community of open source, the phone is 10 x more fun as well. You should check www.precentral.net for all sorts of tips and tricks that you can do with the device.

If you are looking for a more general review, you should go to www.phonescoop.com or something.

    I hope this helps.

  • Palm Pre doesn't connect to the computer

When I plug my Palm Pre in my computer it just load it, I used to get pictures on my computer, but now it will not work! Any suggestions?

You've restarted yor device? Go to Device info, reset the Options, select restart. If this does not work you can try an Erase Apps & data in the same menu. Remember this will erase all PIM data on your device and your device will have to be restored from the backup data from any source you use; Google, the profile of Palm etc.

  • Update to the Treo 650 for palm Pre (both unlocked)

I'm upgrading from my Palm Treo 650 Palm Pre. Years of good use of my Treo and want to know to transfer my data on. Will be the new interface to revisit the existing files for the Treo?

I have a lot of data stored on my sd card how to transfer it?

Hello good and welcome on Palm forums.

Take a look at this page on the Palm website.  It gives you directions to move data from your Treo to your pre.

With respect to the data on your SD card, the Pre and Pixi use SD cards.  Palm has included the storage space on the device.  To move your data, use an SD card reader to make the card appear as a hard drive on your Mac or PC.  Then, once you have your Pre or Pixi, connect it to your computer in USB drive mode and copy the documents that you want to move to your new phone from the SD card to the storage space on the pre or Pixi.
