Pavilion DM4 - 1173CL p.n.: upgrade to 5 GHz WiFi XH123UA

The service doc list the Intel Centrino Advanced - N WiMAX p.n.: 619997-001, as a wireless card compatible for my phone XH123UA. Is this a plug & play, simple replacement of my Broadcom p.n. origin: 593836-001 card adapter wireless or will I have to install the new drivers and other new software? Is there a simple list of what I need to do to improve my WiFi capability to include 5 GHz? Thks! Finally, any suggestions on where to buy the new map (p.n.: 619997-001)?

Hey @dmg1 ,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that looking for information on upgrading the adapter wireless in your laptop.

The adapter is not plug and play. There is a chance that after the installation of the adapter, Windows will automatically install the drivers if there is a compatible driver available.

In most cases, it is best to download the drivers directly from HP or Intel, although Windows automatically installs. You can download the drivers from HP here: Intel Wireless drivers for Microsoft Windows.

You can buy the adapter directly from HP website the HP part Surfer , or from somewhere like Amazon or eBay. It's as simple as looking for the part number on one of these sites.

I hope these are the answers you are looking for.

  • Need help with problems upgrade memory on Pavilion DM4

    I have a Pavilion DM4 1201us with original DDR3 2x2gb memory cards.

I bought a pair of Corsair DDR3 1333 Mhz 4 GB memory cards.

I have the latest BIOS (F.27) and I'm running the OEM Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - Bit. SP1.

The BIOS recognizes the 8 Gb and when I run the BIOS memory test it runs without error.

When I try to boot Win7, it gets somewhere before the logon screen and makes a BSOD with a message about a new memory being installed.

I went back the Corsair Memory cards, but you need to know if there is a problem with any upgrade up to 8 GB of memory with my particular setup. HP offers an upgrade to 8 GB with the same spec boards. (I'm beyond the warranty period!)

    Any thoughtts?

    Interesting!

I can tell you that the model only supports 8 GB memory: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02704310

Have you tried more than one kit of 8 GB?

The reason why I ask is with memory DDR sometimes reticular sticks will pass all the tests if the two sticks are installed then a stick could be bad without you knowledge.

Also you tried a bar of 4 GB and a 2 GB stick to see how it worked?

Corsair memory is not compatible with the system?

I have a dual boot and installed ubuntu on this subject. Ubuntu loads perfectly fine, but after a while the system restarts automatically (IE open application).

I tried memorytest86 to test the memory, but the application continue to crash and reboot and does not provide any results.

    Help, please.

The RAM is not compatible. The system allows a maximum total memory of 8 GB and uses DDR3-1333 which downclocks at 1066 speed. You cannot use a single module of 8 GB. 4 gigs is the large single module supports the system. I suspect the memory that you have will work fine if you had modules of 2 x 4 GB instead of a single module of 8 GB. That's why memtest is not finished. The controller memory motherboard is not able to take up 8 GB of RAM by a single channel.

Yes, you can replace in any motherboard of the dm4-1000 series. The physical form and the anchor points of the motherboards are the same.

  • Pavilion dm4 touchpad

I upgraded my Pavilion dm4 Entertainment notebook for Windows 10 and my touchpad has stopped working. All my settings are correct, and I checked to see if my touchpad driver was that it is up-to-date. I have no idea what to do. I have not had this problem before. It does not allow me to use it to scroll, highlight or click. All it will let me do is move the mouse and zoom in & out. It drives me crazy. Any suggestions?

    Hello

    Method 1.

I suggest you completely uninstall the touchpad driver and reinstall.

    Follow these steps.

    • Press "Windows + X" and click on "Device Manager".

    • In the list of devices, you should see the drivers for the touchpad.

    • Right-click on the device and select "Uninstall".

    • In the dialog box uninstall, make sure that you select the option to remove the driver package from the system. This causes the installed driver package more soon to be deleted.

    • In the Device Manager Action menu, select ""find the hardware changes " option." This will cause the device driver to be reinstalled. Once the driver is installed, close all windows and restart the computer.

    Method 2.

Moreover, if there are no updated drivers available on the Web site of the manufacturer of the computer, then don't download the latest drivers and try to install in compatibility mode of Windows 8. Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows.

Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

    a. download the driver from the manufacturer's website.

    b. right-click on the driver configuration file and click on 'Properties'.

    c. click the "compatibility" tab and check the box ' run this program in compatibility mode for " and select the Windows 8 operating system from the menu drop down and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the problem persists.

Response with the State of the question and we will be happy to offer you our help.

  • DM4-2165dx: is the upgrade of my possible processor?

Is there a possible way to upgrade my current "Intel (r) Core i3-2330 CPU @ 2.20 GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.2GHz" to an Intel i5 processor? And if I am able to upgrade my current Memory (RAM) get in anyway?

    AverageJoe2

Sorry, but even in situations where (1) upgrade processors can be used in a laptop computer, and (2) these processors can be purchased in the retail channel, this upgrade involves usually completely disassemble the laptop, including the removal of any solution of cooling for the processor - and that can often lead to damage support for the processor if not done correctly.

If you are not experienced to completely disassemble and reassemble a laptop, then I would strongly discouraged to try, there are a lot of delicate parts and connectors that are easily broken.

More - according to the manual Maintenance and maintenance for your PC, there already a processor i5 inside, and the only upgrade would be an i7: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dm4-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5145680/model/5171100/manuals
