  I understand that when you ran the diagnostics of material you have received error codes.  When I checked the error codes provided, they say that the disc is optimized and others the HARD drive failed the rapid tests.

  Omitting the quick test is a good indication that your hard drive is faulty and will need to be replaced.

  First of all thank you for help out me.

  I searched the forums for how to do this, but for my situation, I can't find an answer. I'm ok with the technology, but by no means a tech guru... Here's what I've done so far:

  History:

  My sister gave me her cell phone on the weekend and said that he cannot start Windows 8. So I tried a lot of things so he can start and have failed. I tested the hard drive and it says that there are errors on this subject. I tried to use a Ubuntu Livecd to capture data off and have problems, but I'll be able to get most of it.

  Problem:

  I need to replace the hard drive and she never made the recovery discs. What is my best course of action at this point?

  1. Can I reproduce the hard drive failed on a new and hope the recovery partition intact? Restore from that?
  2. Can I install from disc OEM of Windows 8? I don't think I can...
  3. Can I get the key of Windows 8 from the BIOS somehow or I'll have to grab something like belarc to and hope that I can enter the key of the HDD failure?

  Any other suggestions on how to do it? I rather just use an OEM drive with his key and install from scratch, but I need the key and I don't know if it will work?

  There are two options available.

  1. you can order a set of replacement of the recovery media using the link below - it will reinstall the operating system, all the drivers, and almost all of the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office).  They will also recreate all of the original scores, including the recovery Partition.

  Order HP recovery disks.

  2. If the laptop is originally shipped with Windows 8, the activation key is stored in the Bios Chip and is read automatically during installation, so you could create your own OEM of Windows 8 install disc.

  Stop using the laptop. Replace the hard drive with a new one. Get a SATA to usb adapter to connect the old drive (which you will eliminate) to another computer to try to save the data. There is a good chance of data is still recoverable this way.

  You might be surprised to see that this is not a simple procedure, but it will work if you replace the HDD with a SSD in the hard drive compartment.

  You need a width of 2.5-inch SATA SSD. Like this:

BIOS ran diagnostics, everything was good except the hard disk, hd chk result: replace the hard drive. F11 entered to access advanced hp Recovery Manager options tempted towards the top of the entire disk, all files show while listing to back up, attached to my external hard drive current over the back with success.  Plugged external on another laptop, new files since the previous backup are no where.  Should I buy a new external hard drive and repeat the backup via Recovery Manager Advanced Options or should I remove the internal hard disk and insert it into a case and apply in usb on another laptop to view the files.  I know when my computer crashed, I had too many windows/tabs open and too much process and tried to interrupt a process and I confused his little brain and now he has Alzheimer's disease.  I am freaked because I'll lose everything 2012 including some very important documents and about 50 000 pictures HD (yes I learned my lesson backup!) I am in crisis mode because I recently became sick and my photos and documents is vital for my next year of chemotherapy and radiation. Please advice are extremely appreciated. Thank you

  It's the normal advice I'd give to record data; but we have no idea of the State of your hard drive.

  Saving your files:

  You can remove the hard drive and put it in a hard drive USB enclosure > plug it into another computer > and try to read and copy your data in this way.

  Or, you can download Knoppix > make a bootdisk to > start your system with it (IF your material is all work) > and copy your data from the hard drive like that.

  Your hard drive needs to be replaced. After the back if you want specific help with that. On your model, it is manageable for the end-user to do so, although not very easy. You are under warranty?

  I'm not familiar with current PC for sale, regarding upgrades.  Since is considered a new HP, try looking at the list of options on the HP website.  Most higher end PC have the options that you choose before buy you, to customize the generation.  Choose a model with options that match your criteria now and notice the upgrade options - write down them - to avoid confusion later.  OR go with a customized version, but this could mean significant spending.  It is the hand off the coast between prebuilts and personalized.

  Yes it will absolutely accept an SSD. There is no need to mess with the BIOS as the definition of only for storage controller's ahci. Could not set it to something else if you want. Windows 7 and above will simply TRIM and NCQ which is what you need for the optimization of the SSD. A lot of tutorials out there comes from another era, when it was harder to get a job of SSD. Here is the Service Manual:

  Pages 63-70 are the 'how' to remove the top cover and replace the hard drive with a 2.5-inch SSD SATA. I can recommend a Samsung 850 Evo as best consumer SSD, but many others is good and you can shop for an agreement.

  The trick to that prepared in advance how you reinstall Windows clean install from a Windows system image backup or clone. All are viable options, but have their own procedures and pitfalls. We can help with that.
