Portege 4000 - Bluetooth dead?

There is a sticker of Bluetooth on the PC and Bluetooth used to work.
I have not used since before I upgraded from W2000 to Windows XP SP2 home edition.
After that upgrade the Bluetooth manager wasn't working at all - "can not get device ID".
Tried to download the latest battery of Toshiba (V4.00.36T) and install.
When installing the battery, we have messages in the system tray: detected new hardware (S/W).
There was a problem during the installation of the new hardware. New material will probably be
does not work. The installation hangs at this point.
After that, the Device Manager shows an unknown device S/w.

I tried to uninstall (including removing the unknown device) and reinstall several times.

Now, I wonder if the hardware itself works.
Control Panel Wireless link shows no Bluetooth (just infrared).
Device Manager does not show anything outside the ACPI Bluetooth Toshiba under system devices.
New hardware scanner can't find anything.

Is it possible to establish if the equipment works?
Is - this repairable / replaceable?

Y at - it an explanation?

-Open DeviceManager ("Start-> Run-> devmgmt.msc")
'Unknown device-> properties-> details-> device-> ACPI\TOS6205 Id of Instance... ". »
If this is the case, then you have found the BT-ACPI device which must be installed
before that the BT module will be detected by the operating system
-Try to update the unknown device in the DeviceManager.
-Mouse-right click on the "unknown device" and select "Update Driver"... »...
-Check the "system devices", if the "Bluetooth ACPI from Toshiba" device is now available.

  • Portege 4000 conflict between WiFi and Bluetooth on Windows 2000

I recently replaced XP with Win2000 on my Toshiba Portege 4000. I also downloaded the latest drivers from the Toshiba site, using pref to Win2000 and Portege 4000.

When you start the Bluetooth Stack V4.00.30 he wiped out the wireless LAN feature. I know that it is not possible to use Bluetooth and wireless at the same time.

However, it is a permanent disability. During the uninstallation of the Bluetooth stack V4.00.30, wireless comes back to life.
Is there someone who has a fix to this problem?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Just a question: can use you the FN + F8 key combination to switch between WiFi and BT connection?

AFAIK it's between possible and turn on both devices at the same time. In this case, he's shown great caution with content to follow:

Devices Bluetooth and WirelessLAN function in the same radio frequency range and may interfere with each other. If you use Bluetooth devices and WirelessLAN simultaneously, you can sometimes meet optimal network performance or even lose your network connection. In this case, always stop a Bluetooth connection or your WirelessLAN

As I said using the FN + F8 key combination, you should be able to switch between WiFi and BT connection.

  • Portege 4000 hard drive Replacement - what HARD drive is compatible?

Is it possible to find a replacement for my Portege 4000 HARD drive, because the original becomes very capricious?

    Hi mate

I think that the Portege 4000 is an elder and in my opinion this laptop supports a 2.5 HARD disk.
I m not 100% sure, so I recommend you to install a hardware diagnostic tool like Everest Home Edition which would provide all the information on the HARD drive is internal.
That would help you get a new, compatible HARD drive.

I'm having some trouble with my Portege 4000 for the moment. I installed XP on a disk, but will no longer have that I have 256 MB of RAM...

-Have you tried 2 manufacturers but the PC133 512 is not compatible. However, my system has an IBM of PC100 256 chip, which was bought early last year, after much trial and error, and I wonder now if the motherboard will be more suited to the PC100 and PC133 non?

    The protégé 4000 is compatible with the PC133 modules! AFAIK, you can upgrade RAM of this notebook 1 GB (1024 MB) and you can use these modules;
    PC133 512 MB (PA3108U - 1 M 51)
    PC133 256 MB (PA3086U - 1 M 25)
    PC133 128 MB (PA3085U - 1 M 12)

You can create partitions on the HARD drive using a 3rd party like Partition Magic 8 tool. I use this tool and it's really nice.
After you create 2 or three partitions on the HARD disk, you could install different OS (operating systems).

    Hi-

I did a clean install of XP Portege 4000. The system has been previously default 98SE.

Noticed that there is a yellow exclamation point in other devices about the video controller (VGA compatible). I downloaded the display on the Toshiba site driver (if it is the right thing?), but can't seem to install. There is no setup.exe to help me.

    Hello

No, Toshiba don't support Linux or Ubuntu on the Portege 4000 and you can t find drivers for it on the Toshiba page. Only Windows drivers are available.

I m not an expert in Linux, but as far as I know you don t need additional graphic driver for Ubuntu. You should only change the resolution of the screen or something in the settings of the screen. I had the same problem on the first time I used Linux and I could solve it without additional driver but I put t know how I did it :(

  • Portege 4000 - I would like to upgrade memory: 256 MB to 512 MB

    Hello

I have a Portege 4000 and want to upgrade the memory: 256 MB to 512 MB.
It has 98SE and the user always wants to keep this system.

Does anyone know if there is a known issue with the upgrade to 512 MB I saw a thread in 2005, by someone who had a problem?

I suppose that the memory SODIMM PC133. I ordered a 512 MB of RAM to aememory last year, but the system would have not even begun. Maybe they had sent me the wrong chip?

    Thank you

    Tim

Hmm. perhaps that the RAM modules are not 100% compatible
To my knowledge, it should be possible to upgrade the RAM up. 1 GB (2 x 512 MB)
You could also upgrade to 512 MB by using one or two 256 MB modules.

You must use the PC133 144 pin SODIMM modules and I found these modules that are compatible:
    PC133 512 MB (PA3108U - 1 M 51)
    PC133 256 MB (PA3086U - 1 M 25)

    Also on this page:

There are a few modules that should work with the Portege 4000

  • Portege 4000 - Win 98SE want to update

I have a Portege 4000 and I'm looking to switch from Windows 98SE. The obvious alternatives are W2000, XP or Ubuntu Linux.

If I can find a full version of Windows XP Home edition, I'd be able to make a clean (rather than upgrade) installation and get drivers?
Officially, the laptop is only compatible with 98SE or 2000, but these systems are old now.

I imagine that if I update XP 98SE on it will keep all the drivers, but this is not my preferred method of installation and installs own are better.

Win98 uses Win95 Basic code, which is not compatible with NT/2000/XP. If the Win98 drivers do not work.

You must back up your documents, format C: then install fresh XP.

You can use the drivers Windows 2000 XP - sound basically the same operating system internally.
If for any reason any the Win2000 drivers do not work, you can use XP drivers from other models of same era.

  • Portege 4000 - Installed W2K - wireless connection problem

I installed W2K the Portege 4000. XP was too heavy a resource for this system.

After you install the network driver wireless Cisco (3.5.13.0) of your Web site, I am unable to get a wireless connection. In XP this comes automatically with an icon. The network device switch that I also installed did not help.

  • Portege 4000 running XP Pro SP2, no WPA with Wireless option

    Hello
Can someone let me know if the Portege 4000 Mini wireless adapter supports WPA? I tried the Cisco and Lucent drivers on the Toshiba site with no joy and I am up to date with XP, SP2 etc.. The card works fine with an open wireless link.
    Thank you

    Hi Charlie

AFAIK This oldie, Portege 4000, was equipped with the card Wireless LAN ORiNOCO (Agere).
According to the user manual the Wlan card supports only data encryption Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP short).
So I doubt that the WPA would be available.

Maybe you can switch on an external USB WLan key that supports the ciphers.

  • Portege 4000 1 GB memory upgrade?

    Hello!
I have an old laptop Toshiba Portege 4000.
The manual indicates a upgrade memory up to 512 MB (2x256MB) is possible. But the technical specification on toshiba-live website indicates an upgrade memory up to 1 GB (2x512MB) is possible.
I brought 2x512MB (SO-DIMM 512 MB SD RAM SDRAM PC133 PC 133 512 MB 144 PINS) ANONYMOUS memory from ebay and it does not work. The system does not start.

Now my question. Can I go up to 1 GB with the Kingston memory recommended toshiba or it just won't work in general?
Anyone here with experience on that?

    Thanks in advance.

    normally a portege 4000 is upgradeble up to 1 GB (2 x 512 MB sdram pc133, 3, 3v)

However the architecture and the number of tokens on the modules can cause an incomptability, so I guess that "misfortune."

on ebay-express you can find them for about 50 US$ (search for portege 4000; memory)

Very difficult to say if the BIOS will recognize that the new inserted 80 GB of HARD drive.
As far as I know that the Portege 4000 has been delivered with the 20 GB HARD drive.

Hmm, I think the 80 GB could works but he can't say for sure!
You will need to test because the Toshiba does not have any official information on the compatible HARD drive sizes.

What you need is a HARD drive that supports an IDE interface. You could buy one with ATA5 (U - DMA 5 100 Mbps), but it will only work to 66 MB/s due to the limitation of HARD disk controller.
