Portege R500 - cannot activate the microphone

Hello

I have a laptop R500 installed with Windows XP and Realtek 5.10.0.5404 driver.
With this driver, I can't activate the microphone so that I can't use Skype.

Without this driver, I can turn it back on but my speakers don't turn off when I plug in a headset, so that everyone can listen to my Skype calls.

So I have a problem with and without this driver.
How can I solve this? Is there another driver, I can use?

Thanks for any help.

Have you tried to disable the Microphone Noise Cancellation?

  • Portege R500 - cannot remove the password user and supervisor

Hoping someone can help me with a problem,

I voluntarily put a password for user and supervisor on one of our Portege R500.
I know what the password is, but I just want to remove so that I am not prompted for the password whenever the laptop is turned on.

I seem to be unable to disable this feature, which is a problem that the laptop is about to be reassigned to a differnet use that would be impractical for users to have to put a password on startup.

He must have a way to disable the password requirement.

Of course, you can disable this password. Just use the same way you used to.
It can be done using Toshiba Assist > Secure. You used this way to get into these options, you?

  • Can Portege R500 - I use the Fn + F5 on the keyboard?

On the laptop keyboard, you can use Fn + F5 to switch the video output to the screen of the laptop to one to connect to the outside.
Is there a button that you can use with a USB keyboard connected to the laptop which would have the same effect as Fn + F5?

We have a problem with one of our Portege R500.
When the laptop is docked in the port replicator, we have a desktop extended on two screens - a 22 "on DVI and a 17" on VGA screen.
When the user takes the laptop away and uses that off the port replicator, the display returns to the screen on the screen of the laptop so this means what they re - anchor their laptop in the port replicator, they have no display on a screen.

The work around is to open the laptop, press Fn + F5, close the laptop, connect and set the view registered software intel.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello

Message describe you exactly how the switch of the display function.
    Everything is OK.

If you ask for FN + F5 function on the external keyboard so I must say that, as much as I know this FN feature is not available if the external keyboard does not support the FN keys.

But you can also view the Mobile Extension of Toshiba (if you are using Win XP).
In Mobile Extension-> display tab service change, you can activate the display changes service and could check how the display changes after the connection and disconnection of the R500.

    Hello

Your OS windows seems not to be the Windows which was preinstalled on your Portege
You cannot update the BIOS by using the windows server 2008 Enterprise Edition x 64

You will need to put the system which has been pre-installed by Toshiba

  • Question of ' system cannot activate the graphics performance "T400

    Hi all

I have a ThinkPad T400 with Switchable Graphics, running Windows 7 x 64, with the latest drivers provided by Lenovo.  I tried to go to the ATI graphics card today for the first time in a little and got a message "system cannot activate the graphics performance", invites me to disable all external video connections or disable all graphics applications.

The problem is, I don't have any open application.  I disabled several startup programs, uninstalled VMWare Workstation and tried several services, I thought that might interfere with the manual - still no luck switching.  I'll reinstall the driver, but in the meantime, anyone have any ideas, or find a resident program that tempt me not not to be able to switch from Intel for the ATI graphics card?

I believe that after checking the system logs, the error was somewhere in libraries Visual C++ Runtime. I decided at this point, that the question was too difficult to follow and with Service Pack 1 available, I saved and reloaded. Problem solved.

  • Cannot disable the microphone 1 on SX10 TC7.2.0

    Morning!

Here, we have a SX10 recently upgraded to TC7.2.0, both microphones work perfectly but the problem we have is we cannot cut the microphone 1 (one internal), we need mute because the codec is somewhat less a screen with speakers to the codec.

I tried to mute to ' Configuration > system setup > Audio > Microphone Mode 1 input > Off "but not working even after a reboot of the device.

I tried to disable it in CLI with the command ' xconfiguration Audio input Microphone Mode: Off "but doesn't.

Can someone give me a hand with this problem?

Best regards and thanks for your help.

Hello - I just tested this with free TC7.2.0 software.  The version number is TC7.2.0.aea6651.

I tested during a call and used the web interface to Configuration > System Configuration > Audio > input Microphone 1 Mode > Off

I tested it with a table 20 Mic and without.  In both cases, the internal mic has been disabled successfully by the interface web and delivered to market successfully.

To check this, I typed the two microphones with my fingernail.  The location of the internal MIC is just to the lower right of the camera that you look at the front the SX10. It shares the location with the infrared sensor.

I could easily hear the tapping of my nail through the speakers of the other system I was calling.  Disable "Microphone Mode 1:" and I couldn't hear the tapping.  Turn on "Microphone Mode 1:" and I could hear the tapping very well.

So I think that it works correctly.

  • Portege R500: Cannot restore Vista using Toshiba recovery disks

I downgraded Vista to XP loaded factory.
However, I would now like to restore back to Vista.

    I have disc 1 & 2 ' product Recovery DVD-Rom; Portege R500 disks.
They are also marked "Windows Vista Business (SSD/PATA)" has been provided by Toshiba.

I don't know how to use these discs to restore my operating system to Windows Vista. When I insert disc 1 and after loading some files, a message "cannot read the file source or disk - Preinst2.SWM" and I can not go any further.

An instruction step by step would be greatly appreciated

I wonder why you receive two recovery disks. As far as I know Toshiba Vista Recovery image is stored on a DVD.
Perhaps you have received two CD

In any case, have you tried to boot from the second disk? I mean the second recovery CD?

Usually, recovery is not very sensitive. You must boot from the disc and should follow the instructions on the screen.

The error cannot read from the source file or disk - Preinst2.SWM looks like a little to the Conference on disarmament would not readable or the CD/DVD drive would not read the disc properly.

  • Portege R500 - replacement of the keyboard - success

After buying a new keyboard for the R500 on EBay about a year ago, I finally blew the courage to replace a badly scratched by a new keyboard. The reason I've waited? I was worried about how to get out the old keyboard (it is locked down to the chassis, and it was obvious that I have would hurt one during the withdrawal.

There is a nice write-up general on how to disassemble a R500 here:
    http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Portege-R500/disassemble-laptop-remove-hard-drive.htm

The description above is not to discuss the keyboard however, so here's some additional information and tips:

    * Read this whole procedure before you start - it's simple, but not for the faint of heart.

    * Shut down, unplug the power, remove the battery.

    * Make sure that you have the correct keyboard for your model. The US keyboard is p/n G83C000903US for example. One I removed was a Rev 1 and a new one, I had a Rev 2 (don't know the difference - they look identical). They can get as low as $40-mais check the part number before you buy.

    * The keyboard connector is located under the computer, and so you will have to take off from the bottom, carefully following the instructions in the link above.

A couple of notes: (a) the cable Ribbon PCMCIA connector must be opened to disconnect the cable, as this is the only thing that prevents you from removing the bottom of the computer. You can easily do so through access memory on the back door, but BE careful not to damage the cable lock. It works by switch to the top the little plastic lever that is held in place by small pieces of plastic on the sides of the connector that flex * a little *. Be gentle with this connector. When you put it back later-connector, if you placed the cable all the way into the connector, you can lock with only slight pressure down on the connector, and it will snap into place.

    (b) there are other types of cable Ribbon connectors use too. For example, to unlock the keyboard connector, now visible also on the bottom of the deck, slide both ends of the connector in the direction where the cable plugs in. They are snug and will only move about 1/4 ", be gentle but firm.

    (c) the two tiny connectors blocks free access to the water of the keyboard do not have locks on them. We're a band with only a few drivers, and one is a red and white power connector. Just pull out them. All the other connectors, you will probably miss through requires unlocking, so be careful!

_Now back to the keyboard: _

Once you have managed to disconnect his cable on the bottom, turn the laptop and start to remove the keyboard on the edges. It is supported by many small pieces of sticky tape, 2 faces, and that's it. As the base of the keyboard is made of aluminum, it is likely that you will distort the keyboard a bit as release you it, even though it may be downplayed maybe using a tool like a rule or something plastic and pry with it. Take care of not to damage the connector of the Ribbon and try to ignore these scary cracking sounds that identify each section!

Once you have turned it off, you must remove any excess tape before starting point and again put a bunch of small pieces of new, good quality 2-sided tape (such as 3 m). No need to use anything stronger or thicker - just put a bunch of parts everywhere on the base, especially near the edges and the space key.

Now, finally, turn the keyboard in position, making sure that you screw the connector back Ribbon through to the correct place. Turn the laptop over and re - insert and lock the Ribbon connector (make sure that it is directly and fully forward lock connector). All other connectors back in too. Then come back and push down hard on all sections.

Re-assembling, taking care to put the 4 mm and 6 mm screws in the right places and a tiny on the side.

Cross your fingers and turn it on!

    Good luck!

    Thank mate for this review.
Generally the replacement of keyboard is not really complicated and someone with small technician skills should be able to replace it

    Thank you very much

    Hello
If you go to controlled Panel-> Audio devices there should be a setting and therefore the volume of the microphone, as well as opening the volume icon in the lower right hand tray and selecting advanced settings and clicking on the checkbox for microphone, so you can adjust the volume of entry etc. Let me know if it helps.
